Speaker 1 (00:00):
Origin to tonight in Perth and joining us live from
Perth Marny Adam Jackson from nine News, Good morning, Adam,
how are you are they?

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Yeah, good morning guys. It's still all dark over here
in Perth. I don think don ry. I was till
seven thirty. Fortunately, we've had a fair bit of rain
overnight and that rain said to continue today. So Wilson's though,
will get a wet oragin game in the wild world were.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
Now, Adam was in the press conference for Billy Slater
last night.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
You know what people are going through and although one
might be able to handle it, the next person mightn't be.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Maybe our last question now, but you were actually in
the press conference. Can can you explain exactly what went
down there?

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Yeah? So what Billy Slater was doing was asked the
question response to a bit of a personal attack he
got from for Minu South Wales origin player Aaron Woods
last week to call him a grubbs kind of question
his integrity, that sort of thing. So Bill at the
start was reluctant to answer that, really said do you
want me to answer that? And then he went on
what was quite an emotional and a passionate response and

(01:01):
you could always sear a pin drop. So that press
conference has taking place in the per CBD. There was
quite a few hundred people and there rowdy at the start,
but when he started speaking about that captured everyone's attention
and you know, really stated probably the mental health aspects
of you know, when you attack a person, you know,
the repercussions. It could have you heard him say he

(01:22):
can handle it, but you know he felt as those
comments cross the line, calling him a grub, that sort
of thing, and you know that was almost his line
in the sand moment to stand up for himself and
the team. From a Queenstam perspective, it was good to
see him show that emotion and passion. So often we
see billy fladers, that deserved, calm, collective guy. But yeah, yeah,

(01:44):
really captured everyone's attention.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
Well, I guess there's been mixed responses to that. What's
the feeling over there in Perth? I mean, because because
here's some people are well for it and go well
said other people saying did you need to actually do that?
Could you just you know say it's a sledge as
it is, you know between New South Wales and Queensland.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
I mean, yeah, what is the feeling.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Yeah, it's kind of fifty to fifty because, as you said,
people are entitled to their opinions. One thing we've got
to do is ramp up state of for it and
sometimes maybe co close to pushing lines. The grub reference
was way back in the day when Billy Slater did
an incident got suspended against the West Tigers. That's what

(02:27):
Aaron Woods was talking about, like ten fifteen years ago.
So hard if you go through a look through everyone's
career or everything people have done throughout their lives, there's
a slight incident. You could highlight that. The reference he
made at the end of like some people could handle
that other people's can't was in reference to Lake Quins
and Origin coach Paul Green, who died in tragic circumstances

(02:49):
years ago. But well, in some aspects it's got people talking,
which which could be a good way, like if you
do need support, reach out and that sort of thing.
In a way they could highlight that.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
Yeah, no, no one wants to put that down in
that respect. But I guess there's also the state against
state against mate culture of state of Origin, and I
think you remember that, yeah, exactly. So look I think
it's divided a lot of people, Adam.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
Yeah. And the interesting part is that Laury Daily was
been next to him and I got asked do you
hate Queens? Then he goes, no, I actually don't hate queens.
Then it's also I loved you so well so much.
I love everything they do. So it was funny that
there wasn't really that much animosity between It was still
inflated there Cameron Monster Tino representing Queen's there and he

(03:41):
had clear ego and Lory Daily on the other side,
so there was a fair bit of origin animosity, it's
not between the two teams who were there. So interesting
to see how it does turn out tonight, especially given
the fact that the Queens and Page has copped a
bit for being dominated by the Blues the last few games,
and also that talk are they scared to kick off
to spend Elene. You will find out.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Tonight, I hope so. And you know what's it like
in Perth? It's raining. The crowd will show up, won't they.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
I was inside of the stadium yesterday. It's an excellent stadium,
one of the newer venues we get across Australia go
to for Origin. It's only the third time. But unfortunately
for us, Queen Center is a bad luck chum. Both
games we've played in the West was lost by exactly
thirty two points, so we do so it's third time
lucky for us, Marin I hope.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
So you know, yeah, can Billy Slater come out and
rip it into New South Wales now or not?

Speaker 2 (04:40):
Yeah? Well potentially, And it's interesting some of the team
changes he's made, like the slat of comments overnight. Everyone's
forgot the fact that we've got rid of our half
back in Dallas area, but I haven't.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
I haven't had anything Tom, and it'll go Yeah, I.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
Think he'll go.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
Well.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
I was talking to JP about it before because he's
in the assistant coach and like entering him really helping
out with the structuring that Diden's game and you know
he's more of a running halfback. The kicking will be
crucial tonight, So you didn't Camra Monst aren't the first
choice stickers at their clubs at NRL level and being
wet kicking will be the issue. But you look back
in Origin, Tom Dinis and never let Queen send down

(05:17):
every time and you've had to step up but you
know it's now whenever we lose tonight, we lose Earies
and it's back to back series. Well's something us Queensland
Iss aren't used to doing after that kind of decade
of dominant.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
Well, there's a bit of pressure on him, isn't there.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
There's a lot of pressure all right, Adam, Well, thank
you so much for joining us. Enjoy it. It's going
to be unreal. We can't wait.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
No aries, guys, make sure you're tuned into Channel nine

Speaker 3 (05:45):
Yeah, okay, alright enough and you'll have your Pom show
on mate, because clearly.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
It'll be Yeah, I think I'm going to have to
duck to a story, get a rain jacket, send you down.

Speaker 1 (05:54):

from Adam Jackson from nine News and Yeah Live and
free tonight on Channel nine. Make sure you're watching it
