Speaker 1 (00:00):
This local artist money. They're jumping on the edge Shearing campaign.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Absolutely, we love that and I want you to meet
Damien right now. Damien Johnson who shared this on his
social media and the mayor actually sent it to me
yesterday and said, look, Damien's on board now too.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
How good does this have a listen?
Speaker 3 (00:15):
Okay, So you may have heard that Ipswich City Council
is running a campaign to get Ed Shearing to come
and do a pop up show here in Ipswich. So
I thought i'd help them out by giving them the
next best thing. All I need is an acoustic guitar,
a loop pedal, and of course some ginger.
Speaker 4 (00:34):
Want your love.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
For me coming.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
I made the crazy boy too much.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
Grab the help coming out coming out.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Damien.
Speaker 4 (00:58):
I'm outside that mirror, yeah, with his wig on, dancing
in front of Ed and singing, and he joins us, now,
good morning, Jamien, Hey buddy, how are you?
Speaker 5 (01:09):
I'm really good. It was so funny doing that because
I was so nervous at the Commonwealth Hotel, Commonwealth Security,
We're going to grab me and drag me away. I thought,
you know what, I'm just going to I didn't ask permission.
I just thought I'm going for it.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
As we often say, don't ask permission, beg for forgiveness later. Exactly.
People are onto it absolutely, and the massare it. Loved
her because she said to me, have a look at Damien.
I'm like, love that love that we need to find
out about you. And mate, look, was it all okay?
Did you get us? Scored it off? We just saw
the clip and thought it was pretty good.
Speaker 5 (01:38):
No, No, I was very quick. I mean that's the
great thing when you when you do a lot of
street performing, you get very good at being able to
pack up and sit down really really quickly. So it
was about five minutes worth of material.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Yeah right mate, All right, well you're obviously you're a
local artist, so tell us about you and you know
why you jumped on board this as well.
Speaker 5 (01:56):
Yeah, so, I mean, as I'm a local artist, so
you do. I can't rock is my kind of thing.
But I saw as soon as I saw the Mayor
get onto this edge here and things create this thing,
this is going to be great for the local arts
community because I mean, obviously it is one of the
biggest stars in the world and if he's to come
out over here, it just elevates what if Switch is
all about. And I just thought, look, it's going to
(02:18):
be here lifting up the profile of Ipswitch. What a
great opportunity for local artists to get on board with that.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Well, we don't know yet. We don't know whether he's coming.
Speaker 5 (02:25):
It's all we don't we don't figure. The more we
can get onto it, the more it puts pressure on
him to come over here and do his thing.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Absolutely, the more support we've got, the better it is.
And you've taken it there so that's fantastic. But where
else can people see you and what you do? Because
you're pretty good too, You've got going.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
I have heard of you, Damien. Are you Are you
supporting Big Country?
Speaker 5 (02:46):
I am, yeah, absolutely, which is my I guess that's
my big break at this point in time. It's going
to be the biggest show I've ever done. So next
Thursday night at the Triffid Scottishpan. Big Countries starting there
right tips tour here in Brisbane and I'll be supporting them.
So that's the next place you can see me. Otherwise locally,
I'm off in a bancy bar in the middle of town.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
Wow. Well, if you don't know who Big Country is
Big Country? Stay with you? Great band? Massive hit? Yeah,
where are we seeing you? Pop up next?

Speaker 1 (03:20):
Your red wig. That was great. I loved it.
Speaker 5 (03:27):
You might sometimes sit on the corner out in the front
of you B's milk bar. Occasionally I might have to
break the bring the wig next time as well.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Yes, yes, make sure you go in there and chat
to the chat to the team and they're going to
bring you you do you sing for ice cream?
Speaker 5 (03:41):
Look, it's a tough time to be in music in Australia,
so ill thing for just about anything these days.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
You'll bring you an ice cream made good. He's a
good egg.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
Keep that red wig on, mate, Because yesterday we were
talking about Snoop Dogg's impersonations.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
You couldn't tell the difference.
Speaker 4 (03:55):
I can't tell the difference between you and Ed Shearing.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
It's amazing.
Speaker 5 (04:00):
That's incredible, right if our mom can't tell its apart,
it's so funny.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
I'm actually going to challenge you that for people if
they see you around town with your red wig on
and guitar, to snap you right and sit it in.
Where will we find Damien next? A Kah all right,
so we can keep an eye out for you, buddy.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
No, I love it. That's more.
Speaker 5 (04:17):
That's more incenting for Ed to come over, because I'm
going to ruin his reputation if he doesn't.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
By the look of it. Good on you, mate. Let's
go out with Damien.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
