Speaker 1 (00:00):
Calls for Southeast queens And to.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Be rebranded as Brisbane for the twenty thirty two Olympic
Games that includes Ipswich, Charmains and Bevel. How did you
feel about Ipswich being rebranded Brisbane? Ell No James and
Paullenvale Jane, what are your thoughts? Jump on board, I
don't mind.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Come and join the winning teams of Breston and bos
and the line okay, well we've got madtories are harding
on the line with this. Now, good morning, ma'ah.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
How are you?

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Good morning? Campo.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
A couple of days ago calls for Southeast queens And
to be rebranded as Brisbane for the twenty thirty two
Olympic Games that would include Ipswich. I think the Gold Coast,
the Sunshine Coast, Southeast Queensland, big area. What's the latest
on that?

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Look, I think you can imagine people's reaction. Look, the
city of Ipswich has been around for one hundred and
sixty five years and will we continue to be known
as it's switch for ever long? And there's no changing that.
But what I'd say, I think the people of Ipswich
would like to see how we can utilize and leverage
and take up the opportunity of the brand of Brisbane
twenty thirty two. I hope that's a terrific opportunity for

(01:00):
everyone in the Southeast Queensland. How do we leverage the
interest of people coming here, how we leveraged the investment
the tourism the entire Southeast region. So not just dip Switch,
but our neighbors in Brisbane, Luckier, Somerset City Room to Woombo,
et cetera. So look, Southeast Queensland and the councils have
always worked really well together and collaborated well. We have
a long track record of working as one region. We

(01:23):
work together to secure the twenty thirty two Games and
that's a great example. And look, we know that seventy
percent off Coensents population live in Southeast Queensland, so we
are very powerful and I think you know for us
and if which we are a co host city of
the Games, we are slated to have the modern pentaffon
here and we are looking at a number of other
tourism opportunities and other investment opportunities as people come to

(01:44):
Southeast Queensland. I think the main focus is if there
are any investments or tourism opportunities. We don't want them
to go to New South Wald, Victoria. We want them
to say in Southeas Queensland, and it can't be in
Switch Then we'd lots for our neighbors to have that opportunity.
But the main thing is to protect those opportunities actually
stay here in Southeast Queensland.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Sure, I guess the thought process would be something like La.
I mean, La is a city in itself, but then
they have Anaheim and all these other places that are
cities in themselves as well, So they're just trying to
spread it out to make it one huge hub, right.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
I think internationally when people come here they will just
see it as a region. And so that's where that
brand of twenty thirty two is so good for us
to lean into and why we're so involved, Well can
I just give it? I guess. A more recent example,
the Brisbane Lions made the decision to move their headquarters
from Brisbane to Ipswich back in twenty twenty two, and

(02:35):
look they have gone from strength to strength. They receive
two Premiership center the women are playing terrifically. So this
is how we all work together to make sure that
everyone does really well.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
Absolutely, and they're still called the Brisbane Lines even though
Brighton home's arena.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
There is their training hub which is in Ipswich.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
Of course I get it, and I think it's great
for the region for the twenty thirty two Olympics.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Of course, we still want to edge Shearan to come
to Switch right man.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
There's no call by the government or anyone to rename
it Spiritchul or Logan or the Sunshine Coast or the
Gold Coast. It is a call by the organizing committee
to how do we lean into this? And I think
this is part of the reason why we you know,
we didn't put our hand up to say let's be
a co host city for the games. We won't make
sure we have terrific opportunities. There's going to be a

(03:21):
lot of people who've never heard of Southeastqueansan or Brisbane
and this is a true opportunity for the people of it.
Switch as well. Last week the state government opened up
all the procurement opportunities for the game, so that's just
starting now. So it's a great opportunity. We have a
very low carbon footprint aim for these games, so local
supplies are in the driver's seat for any procurement.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
All right, may well, thanks for clarifying everything for us.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
Thank you so much, Chevo
