Speaker 1 (00:01):
The Robin and Jip podcast to finish, but Hollo.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
My friend, Hello, Hello, Hey Cory. Hey mate, So we
saw it on the news last night while it was
actually on our feeds on Instagram and Facebook and stuff,
that it came through straight away that Kevy had been sacked.
Actually there was two headlines. One said Kevy had been sacked,
one said he'd stepped down. Did you get a phone
call before you saw saw it on your socials?
Speaker 3 (00:37):
Uh? No, So but like from from what I know,
and no one really knew, and you know, these decisions,
I guess made by the players. All this stuff is
made is made above us, you know, obviously the people
higher up on the board.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
So that's one of the things that's being said in
the story is that this is a player based decision.
So given that you are a player, you'd say that
that's not the case.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
Yeah, well, we we never sat down had a meeting.
You know, There's there's nothing that you know, has been
said in our in our group chat with players having meetings.
But look, I don't think it's ever made by the players,
to be honest. It's always easily made from the from
(01:26):
the above, from the run the club and and control
of the club. Us as players, we you know, we
have to go out there and just do our job
each week and train and and play, and that's that's
what we have to do and and that's what we
all stick to.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
So, but Corey, what is the player's reaction then, if you,
particularly if you weren't consulted beforehand, you didn't know what
was coming, you found out, like the rest of the world.
Has there been comments on the group chat about how
everyone feels about it.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
I actually haven't looked, so I don't I don't really
want to look. But I was shocked, you know, I'm
just going off my rash.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
I was.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
I was really shocked, you know, because you're going to
sort of feel for Kevy and his family and and
and sort of what you know, he's probably had to
go for the last twelve hours. It'd be honestly, really hard.
It'd be it'd be so hard to take and you know,
him being the player he was, and and and the
(02:22):
history as of the club, and you know, obviously, you know,
I believe he's he's actually been a good, big part
in helping the club, you know, get back on their
feet and and get back to you know, being a
team to be worried about each week, and yeah, look,
I think it'd be really hard news. And you know,
I honestly feel for him, and yeah, it's just it's
(02:47):
just I always put myself in in people's shoes when
they got to go through this sort of stuff, and
I know that i'd be struggling and it'd be really hard.
So I just hope he's doing well.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
He had two years left on his deal, so it'd
be interesting to know. I'd imagine him getting sacked versus
him stepping down would be very important as far as
payouts are concerned. So I guess we'll have to just
keep watching the headlines for that.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
I think there's a press comments later on, Okay, soon,
I would believe there would be that. That's usually how
they go usually, as the press comments on as soon
as I possibly can, So I would say that there'd
be a lot more detail in that one.
Speaker 4 (03:24):
But what about you, mate, Like, I mean, you're waiting
and just you know, because Kevy didn't offer you a contract,
as you told us, So what does this mean to you?
Speaker 3 (03:35):
Nothing for me changes, Well, just with the way i'm
you know, probably going into these holidays, I'm just I'm
just going to keep it the same. I'm just really
enjoying the holidays before I make any decisions, you know,
I'm going to make sure I just enjoy time with
the family and the kids, and then when it comes
(03:57):
to the time to reassess and look at my shoes,
so then I'll do it. But it's not going to
change what I was planning on doing these holidays and
make sure it's the right one and and yeah, so
to keep it like that.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
So all right, so we'll wait and see all that.
But let's just talk just just briefly. Broncos. Last year
they made it to the Grand Final. This year they
made they finished twelfth. Do you think, in your heart
of hearts, and I know, take the fact that Kevy's
a man and he's a person out of it, do
you think it's a good decision for the Broncos.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
Oh, that's a hard one. I don't know, because because
of what he's already done with the club obviously, you know,
taking us from a really tough position to a Grand
Final to contenders in the NRL. Look, I honestly thought
(04:52):
they probably would have given him next year. That's that's
finest opinion. I really did, so, yeah, I believe it was.
You know, it probably is a hard harsh call.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
But he's got an almost exactly fifty percent win loss record,
so that's not normally a sackable offense.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
Yeah, well, well you wouldn't think so. But it's just
that he took the club from where it was still
a Grand final, and you know you've got a really
young team too, so yeah, that's that's always hard in itself.
So look, well I think it's really unexpected. I really
thought that he would have been given the opportunity next year. So,
(05:35):
like I said, I just honestly just hope he's doing
all right. So it it'd be definitely hard to deal
with this one.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
You are such a legend. That's why we love you
so much. I know you hate answering these questions because
you are so honest. You Okay, let's finish on something fun.
You excited about the Lions?
Speaker 3 (05:53):
Yes, I actually can't wait. It's been it's been awesome
watching them, honestly, where they come from, and you know
the story about just you know, them sticking to their
plan and sticking together and being a tight knit group
and just being confident in what they do. It's it's
shown that when you do that and you and you
(06:13):
do it truthfully and everyone and everyone buys in, you know,
anything can happen. And honestly, it's been the coolest story
all year. And I actually honestly can't wait. I've been sorry,
so emotionally involved the last of the four weeks tea
and actually, you can't believe how much I've been invested in. Yeah,
a song, Cory.
Speaker 4 (06:34):
Can you sing it?
Speaker 1 (06:34):
And you know it?
Speaker 4 (06:36):
You got to learn it by tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Yeah, learn learn it by something. You're gonna you're gonna
need to sing it at full time, So get ready.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
Thanks Cory, that's very good. Thank you.
