Speaker 4 (00:38):
Good morning. How are you guys?

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Excellent? Good, excellent, So Confessions for Cash. What's your story?

Speaker 4 (00:46):
I'm American and in America, you know, we a lot
of if people joined the navy or join the armed forces.
One of my good friends that I worked with, Tolely platonic,
you know, just kept in touch from we worked at
a help with Strow when I was sixteen, kept in
touch for years and years and I went to visit
and he had joined the Navy, and he's like, hey,

(01:07):
you know, if we got married, like I get this
spousal payment and I'll give you five hundred bucks a month.
And I was like, yeah, totally, we're having some beers,
like I said, totally platonic. Yeah, and so we're like,
all right, let's do it. So we Reno. I met
him in Reno because found some little hodonkey little place
cause hard Ana.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
So that's Nevada where you get you can get married
to the drop of a hat.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
Right, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:30):
So I just drove down the hill and we're I'm like, hey,
what a buddy, and we found this place hard of Reno.
We It was i mean straight up out of a
funny movie. Like you walk into like name throws on
the little you know, rogue gets the little thing to
tell you know, to marry you, and like we're like, okay,
sign your papers. We went out to eat. We went

(01:52):
to the Olive Garden. I remember.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
It was not dissimilar to Sizzler for locals. Right, so
this is not your favorite tale, not your favorite tale.
Wedding was what was I And then.

Speaker 4 (02:02):
I was like all right, cool cool. And then I
drove back to Tahoe and I'm assuming stay in renow
and we still keep in touch today. This is like
many years ago.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
So he gave you five on a month, assuming that
he would have got probably the same amount for himself.
Did he as a bonus?

Speaker 4 (02:16):
Well funny enough, because like back then you don't think
about prenum and all this kind of you know, because
we were like, oh, it's not really real. We're just like, oh,
you know, you're twenty one. Five hundred bucks a month
is like FuGO bucks twenty years ago. Especially, So finally
he found somebody that he really wanted to marry and
sent me the Bor's papers. He owned a condo motorcycle like,

(02:36):
and I was like, man, I you know, really take
this guy for a ride, you know. Yeah, and the
I signed the bors papers. He married the woman that
he met and fell in love with, And so.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
I like proper like as in like he's never really
a cast, like you know.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
Nothing married but we just not been none of that,
and yeah, I like this, yeah and yep, and so
ironically Wednesday was my husband and I's four year and
wedding anniversary.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
Okay, and before we got married, because you know, you
had to say have you been married before? I was like, oh, like,
well I have, but I haven't really mentioned that. So
but he wouldn't even suspect anything, you know what I mean.
So I actually called up, uh, my friend who I
was married with, and know, we, like I said, we
don't speak regularly and randomly. He still had my divorced

(03:30):
but the divorce papers on file and yeah and so
and and I was like, and I just feel slowly.
We're just kind of not mentioning it to my now
husband when we've been together for fourteen years. Wow, so
you know, but we've been we were two kids, two countries,
you know, Like, I think we're pretty solid and I'm
ready to tell him, and I think that he'll either

(03:53):
really like, oh my god, who are you? Or like,
who who's this? Or maybe he'll be like that's hilarious,
bore you ready on a bill? I think?

Speaker 1 (04:00):
So okay, we're going to call him a hobby that's
like of his identity. Good morning, hobby.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Oh yeah, so it's me, I love y. Do you
have any idea of what's just.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
About to have?

Speaker 2 (04:11):
Not? Really?

Speaker 3 (04:11):
No?

Speaker 1 (04:12):
And how are you feeling knowing that they were calling
you out of the blue?

Speaker 2 (04:15):
You're okay, Well, I'm currently drinking a double shot piccolo
and my heart's racing and I'm regretting drinking this thing
because my heart break.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
My life is going to change in the next couple
of minutes.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Oh yeah, A million.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
Dollars over to you.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
Hey, mad, what have you got for me?

Speaker 4 (04:39):
Okay? Remember I told you were I entered this couple's
thing on the radio, and we're gonna do a little
couple of contests. Well, it's actually confession for cash. So
I have I never told you I was married before
you and I got married purely platonically.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
Did you just say you were married before we were married?

Speaker 4 (05:01):
Yes, but listened, But they've listened. I was married to
somebody like a friend from when I was like twenty
one year years old, Like we got married. He was
in the military. He's like, hey, do you want to
get married? And I get extra spousel paid totally friends.
We got married, like sent me a little check every

(05:22):
like a monthly, and you know, didn't We actually lived
in two different places in California, and yeah, we didn't
even really see each other. But it was just kind
of funny because we like got married and we're like, ooh, yeah,
like this bump, you.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Kind of got powered to be married. What are you divorced?

Speaker 4 (05:40):
That makes it sound really bad, you know what I mean?
Sounds like what it is?

Speaker 2 (05:46):
Are you divorced? I guess it's probably the important question.

Speaker 4 (05:49):
Of course we're divorced. And I kind of like Snugley
had to say before we got married that we were
actually he just said, had you been married before? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (06:01):
I remember, I remember that question.

Speaker 4 (06:04):
I thought you would either think it was funny or
it you know, I was like, fourteen years, we're solid,
We're not You're not going anywhere.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
So oh yeah, no, no, no, no. Two kids will
hold you in. But feel it's a bit of an
odd one. I guess she's divorced. That's totally fine, but yeah,
a little a little bit what would you call the word?
Uh yeah, babe, if you told me that, like something

(06:35):
like that, you're like, oh my god, my friend like
said that they would.

Speaker 4 (06:38):
Give me five hundred bucks a month or you know,
and like we're just friends, Like I think that would
be hilarious.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
I'll be I'll be getting payment for it. If he
be married, we'll get paid to be married as well.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
Yeah, the one bit of good news is that Annabel
was getting five hundred a month for being married, and
you're getting five hundred bucks just for this story.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
Oh really, Yeah, I get the five hunderd bus. If
I take that five hundred bucks, then I'll pretend we
never had this conversation. I do use some new tools.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
There is there is a slight issue.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
She like to you, Oh yeah, it's totally not okay,
but I'm still gonna have to deal with that.

Speaker 4 (07:26):
I use a very disclosing information, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
I was like, that's kind of a roundabout why I
was saying a lot. Really, but I.

Speaker 4 (07:34):
Was thirty when we met. I'm now forty five. This
was when I was like twenty one years old, So
like I go like, oh, that's right. I was made before, Like,
oh yeah, I've totally forgot about that. Yeah, it wasn't
even something that I can even thought I should even
have to mention.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
Oh, you're wrong. As long as that's the only one,
then I'm sure we can get through it.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
Annabelle, Is that the only one that's that's right? Well, look,
I think an honest film station and some brand new
tools I have you.

Stuff You Should Know
Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
