Speaker 1 (00:01):
Wake up with Robin Terran Chip. I'm pretty nervous about this.
Over the last couple of weeks, you may have been
listening to the fact that I have been catfished by
a guy that claimed to be forty seven. Turned out
he was twenty seven. Lives here in Brisbane. We've been
going backwards and forwards over the last few weeks. But
(00:23):
PI Dave, our private investigator, managed to knock on his
door across the weekend. I have been waiting to find
out what's been going on. Pi Dave is here.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Good morning everyone, Good morning.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
My goodness, my friend. The first thing I hear is
that I get this text message from the man we're
calling the Italian s Dallion saying he's sorry and that
you've gone to his door. So what happened, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Well that's a good thing. He got an apology text anyway.
But yeah, look, we went and visited the address that
we'd identified through air inquiries and look, after some initial
denial of having any sort of communication with you, he
finally sort of acknowledged that, yeah, he had some text
exchanges with yourself. He was quite remorseful eventually in regards
(01:11):
to what he was doing. But I suppose the greatest
concern is where he got your information. You know, that
was our concern that we had of where this information
actually he got. So I was surprised to find out
that there was you know, a number of websites that
had information personal information about yourself, Robin and you know, emails,
(01:31):
phone numbers, addresses and all that sort of stuff that
were completely accessible by someone.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
So okay, can we just go back to him for
a sec. Why did he do it?
Speaker 3 (01:41):
Though?
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Like?
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Why me?
Speaker 2 (01:42):
Look, it was completely random he and I accept what
he says is he does not know you at all.
It was a completely random thing from the websites that
he was looking up. In essence, he's just a really
lonely guy. I guess he's just looking for some sort
of companionship and you know, and was only and decided
that was you know, what he does on a Saturday
(02:03):
night is to contact people engaging in conversation.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
Did he know how old I was?
Speaker 2 (02:08):
He says that he didn't. He has a general idea
because the information that's you know, on you on this
particular website does have your age and as you know,
your contact details. So he has a general idea. But
I don't think that was his main motive as in
your particular age group as such. It is more in
general a female sort of person that he could communicate with.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
But he's twenty seven, like because there are two issues
for me, and let me tell you. We will get
to the how and all that sort of platform, but
it's the why too, So Bella my neighbor, that was
also completely random.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
Yeah, I guess. Yeah, when you reach out to a
number of different persons, I suppose you success rate in
your ability to communicate with people's going to be higher.
So I think he's read his tentacles over a long
sort of list of people to you know, get some communication,
you know, with a number of persons. So you know,
it's an ongoing thing that he's been doing, not just
a one off for a two off. It's an ongoing situation.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
So do you think the facts that he gave me
that he was Italian, all that stuff about his family,
do you think any of that's true?
Speaker 2 (03:09):
In essence? Some of it is true, as you're aware
he is twenty seventy, only changed the year of his birthdate.
The month and the day were correct. Yes, he was
of Italian descent. With some of the information he provided
A Robin is one hundred percent. He just sort of
embellished them a little bit and changed them a little bit.
But in essence, yes, the information was correct.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
When you rock up and knock on his door. So
what are you wearing? Are you dressed like in a suit,
Were you wearing official clothes? What were you wearing?
Speaker 2 (03:38):
No, very much the opposite that I was probably in
gym gear, to tell you the truth, Harry, casual gear.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
Okay, so you're pretty non threatening. You're in your gym gear.
You're knock on the door. The man that answers the door,
is he just like in his pajamas? What was he like?
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Yeah, pretty much he was actually in his pajamas, you know,
the time of the morning. Yeah, look away, just engaged
him in conversation and to tell him the re that
I was there to speak to him about, you know,
the text messages that have been coming from his phone. Right, So,
as I said, initially, he tried to say that it
wasn't you know, it was a scamming sort of an
issue with his phone, which they call spoofing, which they
can use, you know, a different number. He tried to
(04:14):
say that it was that, whereas you know, I knew
that that was not the case. And as I said,
eventually he was fully acknowledging that that was him sending
the messages.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
And just no concept of how frightening that can be.
And I mean, I get that he's lonely. I mean
I get caught here because on one hand, I feel like,
here's this lonely guy in a house trying to reach
out to people. But on the other it's like you're lying.
And often men don't realize how much they frighten women
because we spend our whole lives being concerned.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
Yeah, yeah, that's exactly right, Robin. And I reminded him,
you know, of that sort of behavior, of it not
being acceptable and the fear that it does put into
various persons. Hence why you know, I recommended that he
did send you a text to apologize and come claim
to his involvement of it. I guess what happens, you know,
moving forward with the end of the story's not there,
(05:02):
you know. I mean, an hour or two after I've
visited the premise, I get a call from his mother
who wanted to speak to me, and she was extremely apologetic.
She was extremely I guess, embarrassed that her son was
partaking in this behavior. And she was really angry to
(05:23):
tell you the truth that someone that was in her
family was partaking in this behavior. And she assured me
that she was going to take her own action get
her son some help that he probably needs in regards
to this. So, like I said, the story's not dead
in what's happened, you know, hopefully we can get some
help for this guy and you know, moves on to
a better place.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
So she had no idea that this is what he
was doing.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
No, absolutely not. She was gobsmoking. As I said, the
initial anger and the hurt was evident, you know, on
the call to me. But and essence, she was a
mum who really cared for a son and wants to
get you know, the help that he probably requires.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Can we talk to her? Would she talk to us?
Speaker 2 (06:02):
Yeah? I did ask her if she'd be prepared, and
you know, she was more than happy to speak to
you on a personal level, Robin, on a mother to
mother type basis, I guess, rather than a you know,
on a type situation. But she was more than happy
to have a chat with you, and I guess explain
and express her remorse.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
I guess is he still living with his mum?
Speaker 2 (06:23):
Yes? He is?
Speaker 3 (06:24):
Yes, right, Okay.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
Oh my gosh. I'm so conflicted in all of this
because I so know it. It makes me want to
cry and I'm going to feel you to be your mother, Yeah,
dealing with your kids doing stupid crab.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
Yeah, yeah, Oh my gosh. And I mean it did
seem like that from that text message that Robin got,
did seem like his remorse was genuine?
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Yeah, I believe so. Like I said, I said, we
had a good chat and I recommended to him that
he should do something like this just to you know,
show his remorse to Robin. And you know, hopefully that
had the desired effect Robin.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
And you know, the other thing is too that he's
also been brave enough to then tell his mother because
she you didn't talk to her when you knocked at
the door.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
Did you, No, not at all. She wasn't there at
that stage. So it was a number of hours later
she gave me a buzz Yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
So, you know, a twenty seven year old male not
only having to admit to the shame to a stranger
about what he's done, but he's then been honest enough
to tell his mom.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
Okay, well, I certainly want to follow up with that.
You know, we are not in the business of shaming
or intimidating anyone, which is now, look, aren't we Glad
we didn't actually lease.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
Glad we didn't talk about his name and stuff because
I was like, whatever, he's a pig, let's just talk
about it. But obviously, you know, not what we thought
it was.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
Okay, every story as they say, yeah, and I know, Dave,
you know you've got to go. But there's this whole
other thing about these platforms. I mean, should we maybe
like navigate through this and then let's talk to you
in a day or two about do you know anything
about these platforms?
Speaker 2 (07:57):
Not yet? No, I look, these platforms are completely new
to me. Is I've never heard of these two, but
there is numerous sort of ones around quite similar, and
in fact, they're quite easily to access. I mean, in essence,
that's some of the stuff that we do to find people,
is to access you know, internet sites to find various people.
So it's not illegal, they're not doing anything wrong, and
(08:19):
that's how easy it is to get people's information these days.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
Okay, Well, let's try and talk to the mum because
I would really like to do that and give you
some time, Dave, and maybe with our legal department, and
let's just find out more information about these sites because
the potential of them is terrifying if put into the
wrong hands and used for the wrong purpose, which is
clearly what this is.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
Happy to help guys and every we can wake
Speaker 1 (08:42):
Up with Robin Terrian Chip
