Speaker 3 (00:59):
Manly Yeah, manly pump the Dolphins. Oh no one expected that,
yeah no, and no one get injured. Yes, right, So
now we can see your milestones.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
Yeah. I thought, you know, mosts it'd be great, and
they are. They're really good. You know.

Speaker 5 (01:14):
It's a it's a self sort of I don't know,
like achievement, you know, because it's not easy. You know,
for rugby league, it's average fifty games for each player.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
So is that right? So if you make more than fifty,
you're kind of doing if.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
You get the debut, if if you can get a start.

Speaker 5 (01:31):
It's about fifty now, it used to be thirty something
when I started. Wow, yeah, it's still it's like two
seasons three season gender, but it's three seas on average.
You actually are in a team.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
So how many did you get?

Speaker 2 (01:45):
I got two hundred and sixteen or seven, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
Okay, yeah, but.

Speaker 5 (01:50):
Look, yeah they started, well the miles starts fifty, got
the fifty, you know, and we won. I'm pretty sure
it was down in Sydney against the Rabbit, oh I think.
And I was on a young back then, so they
played on the winged that's true.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Thing goodiful, yep. And then I got three hundreds. I'm like, yeah, cool,
you know this was good? Was that like out?

Speaker 5 (02:11):
And anyway, it was about twenty minutes in and took
a run and I did my big step.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
That I have, you know, one step. I was actually gone.
I was off. It was off a scrum. I was
go on skis no and touched me yeah, and then
I just fell over. I tore my hair.

Speaker 5 (02:27):
Ah yeah, but not your main not not the big one.
I tore the one underneath that goes like up three years. Yeah, anyway,
just running, just running, just I just changed direction and
took off and I tore it like in two spots,
which never happens.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
And they said, don't know how that happened, but yeah,
and I didn't know.

Speaker 5 (02:44):
I got out played the ball and try to keep playing.
And I remember we did a kick.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Chase straight after that, and I took off and went no,
and straight up the tunnel. I went, yeah, and they go,
is off off, like, can you tell us next time?
I said, I was in that much pain?

Speaker 3 (02:59):
Really, And so that's your hundredth.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
Yeah, that was the next day I had my Bucks party.
Couldn't drink.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
Ah, well that changes the thing.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
This girl anyway. So that was one hundredth and then
got one fifty like art Ovile.

Speaker 5 (03:17):
Remember that. I don't know if you remember that. Everyone
thought I'd snap my leg.

Speaker 4 (03:20):
Is that what that looked like? Your bone came out
of your thigh and said, I remember that.

Speaker 5 (03:23):
But in said I had a massive hole was a
fifty It was fifty five meal deep and it was
like the size of a fifty cent coin.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
And because the bone came out of your leg and that's.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
What it looked like.

Speaker 4 (03:36):
That's and all the commentators everyone was just like, yeah, goodness,
it's a compound.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
No idea. I just eyes in shock. And it turned
out with my own boot.

Speaker 4 (03:45):
I still don't understand how your own boot got into
that the top of your leg.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
So my foot like when I was going down.

Speaker 5 (03:52):
If you watch the video when I was going down,
you see my thigh like just touched my other foot.
But as that happened, the tackler jumped come on top
of and pushed my leg down and it's obviously just
went bang and just it's a massive because a massive crater.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
Yeah, doing well so far.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (04:10):
While I was in the hospital, it was funny enough.
It was in Sydney Public Hospital.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Yeah, they said, oh, we've got to take your name
off the door. I was like, why, Oh, there's people
getting around here. We don't know why. Maybe we don't
maybe they're looking for We had no idea. It was weird.

Speaker 5 (04:24):
While I was in there for three days, I was like,
what do you mean? Yeah, they had to make it
out like I wasn't here.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
It was weird to go on a hiding.

Speaker 5 (04:32):
Yeah, it was during COVID, So, oh jeez, it was weird.
I went, Oh my goodness.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
Any two hundredth injuries?

Speaker 2 (04:39):
No, I think I got through.

Speaker 5 (04:40):
I think we won, but I might have got I
don't know, I might have got dropped.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
Oh my goodness.

Speaker 4 (04:47):
So if you had a milestone that turned into a
nightmare thirty one o six five, maybe like a ten
year anniversary or I'm.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
Thinking of a wedding with gastro anything.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
Yes, when we got one, where was the big one?

Speaker 3 (05:00):
I'd like to say, I've got I haven't made it
to any wedding master.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
Just stay in one for a period of time.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
What's the five you one?

Speaker 2 (05:13):
I don't know you night? He's a paper I can't remember.
I should know, you should know.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
But yeah, no, so that's that'll be my master there.
But if you've got one thirty one six five, So
milestone's gone wrong?

Speaker 1 (05:27):
Thirteen one oh six five Kelly of Brendele, Oh d see,
I said, weddings things can happen. What happened?

Speaker 6 (05:35):
My husband wrote appendicitis the morning of our wedding.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
What happened?

Speaker 6 (05:43):
So basically we both still lived at home. So I
got a call from his mom at seven o'clock in
the morning saying, hey, we're at the emergency room. We
think he's got a pendicitis. Can you come up and
see him? See him? Okay? Yeah, And I got up
there and yeah, sure enough it was appendicitis. But he

(06:04):
didn't want to postpone our weddings, so we got married
at the hospital before he went into surgery.

Speaker 1 (06:08):
Oh wow, Well, did you have a big wedding book?
Did you have a church? Did you have a reception booked?

Speaker 7 (06:15):
We had a church.

Speaker 6 (06:17):
We were young and on a huge budget, so reception
was just going to be like a high tea in
the hall.

Speaker 3 (06:26):
Having hospital sandwiches. What did you do?

Speaker 6 (06:29):
We basically had the ceremony and then they wheeled him
off to surgery and we had we had a reception
four weeks later.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
With all the nurses.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
Did you wear your dress, Kelly, like, did you try
and make it as wedding ish as possible?

Speaker 3 (06:44):
I do?

Speaker 6 (06:45):
Yeah, I wore my dress. He wore so we still
ended up they let us use the chapel in the hospital,
so we still had seventy guests.

Speaker 8 (06:53):
Oh wow, okay, I guess what a pivot.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
Pivot can't imagine a man with appendicitis, and they go,
you know I do.

Speaker 6 (07:07):
He looks so secrets that funny.

Speaker 8 (07:08):
Now, two hundred bucks to spend at Soak bath House
for you, Kelly all your Father's day's coming up too.
Socks are good, but Soak Bath House gift card is better.
Thirteen one oh six y five.

Speaker 4 (07:21):
If heever you want to get involved with the show,
it's Robin and Kip now a coreo.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
It's on Kiss ninety seventh three.

Speaker 4 (07:26):
Now, Cory was just talking about milestone games because there
were some big ones over the week and ben Hunt,
for example, three hundred and fifty games amazing, and your
milestone games were generally met with tragedy were awful.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
That's why I stopped winn an injury.

Speaker 4 (07:39):
Yes, so tell us about the milestone that went wrong
for you.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
Thirteen one o sixty five. Our producer Maddie's in the studio.
Hey guys, what happened?

Speaker 1 (07:47):
So my eighteenth birthday obviously.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
A big one.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
I booked out this area of a bar.

Speaker 9 (07:53):
For like thirty people, expecting all my friends to show
up and drink with me, and most of them got
gastro or the flu, or were out of town or
couldn't make it, so it was just me, my mum,
and my dad in a thirty person space celebrating my love.

Speaker 3 (08:10):
That is really sick.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
They were sick.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
Yeah, and that was my birthday.

Speaker 9 (08:17):
Oh, I actually don't have anything, and my mom was like, no, no, no,
like they're definitely sick.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
To do an investigation on that, I just wanted to
Donna out of alex Hills. What was the milestone, Donna?

Speaker 7 (08:34):
It was my fiftieth birthday and I got a boucher
for accupunture and a massage. Very excited, went and had
it done first time for accupunture, and the pain was horrific.
I told the gentleman that put the needles in me
that it was really, really hurting me. He said it
was because I was really skinny, and just to bear

(08:56):
with it for a fifteen minutes. No, it wasn't over.
I went home. I don't even know how I drive
myself home, and I put it on Facebook because anyone
had accupuncture home in pain? Everyone said, no, no, it's great,
it's great. Got to the point where I couldn't breathe.
He hunted lung.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
Oh my goodness, Donna.

Speaker 7 (09:18):
Two weeks in hospital and oxygen. I found out that
I was the second one. He'd done it too, so yeah,
that was my fiftieth. I know, we'll remember it forever.

Speaker 3 (09:28):
A gift.

Speaker 7 (09:29):
Wow. Yeah, Well it ended up I ended up getting
the car out of the payout.

Speaker 1 (09:34):
Okay, this was my question, is this guy practicing anymore?
And the answer is no, he is. He is.

Speaker 7 (09:42):
Yeah, absolutely, I wanted to stand outside his shop with
a sign there was a price to pay.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
That's terrible.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
