Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to the Robin and Kid.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Podcast State of Origin next Wednesday night. So Broncos got
to buy this weekend. And but you've played in some
awesome Origin were you there? Were you there in like
in the seven or row?

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Were you part of that? Just after? Yeah? I was
still Yeah, I di booted a part of that team. Still.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
I guess So who was playing Billy Slater?

Speaker 1 (00:29):
He was injured, but I got to get coached by him.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
So j C.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
Cam Smith g I like Darves as a fallback, played
the Chambers. Yeah, all those great players like Jill Aguera.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
And how and how old were you in your first Origin?
Twenty one years old?

Speaker 1 (00:49):
You just did what you were told. I did whatever
everything they told me that. I'm like, yes, sir. So
what happened with Cameron Smith? Well? I was never a
confident passer like and everyone wondered why I played left wing.
And I remember at the first training session I've you know,
jumped in there and went, I'm my god, no, I'll
have to pass the ball in the ground half and

(01:10):
I can pass right left. I do that easy. But
isn't passing past left right? Maybe as a winger, you're
a long pass sometimes when they get that you have
to pass, like fifteen got fifteen mines.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
And so your left hand dominant for this pass.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Yeah, And I'm like no, And I've thrown it to
him and dribbled on the ground. Yeah, and he's picked
it up, through it and let the play go. And
then he's walked over and just told me off pretty
much and said if I don't learn how to pass
by by the game, he said, you probably won't be
picked again. I'm like, so then the captains told you.

(01:48):
You told me you don't learn how to pass. Well,
it was a bad part. It's a big deal. It's
a big part of the game, and then people won't notice.
But in that game I never got to pass the
ball at all from Aden and Gee, I would just
push me, like, get out of you. This is such
a big moment for you, and I accepted it. I'm like,

(02:09):
I am terrible, And so did you go away? In practice? Yeah,
Elfie Langer. Every session i'd try at least ten to
twenty and if we hit the mark, I'll be there
until I did. Yeah. It's thanks to elf that by
the second game I could just get it to him.
You know, a little bit of confidence, but I practiced
for like, yeah, I got twelve months after that until

(02:30):
I could now the past. I still do it now.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
And you'd played Origin and you've been playing professional for while.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
Yeah left Wings.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
Did you win, Cory.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
Yes, we won the first two one when you lost
the third. Yeah, it was crazy, it was it was Yeah,
it was an incredible start of my Origin career. And
yeah that's that's a memory, those first two games, and
memories I'll never forget. So yeah, that really cool.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
I can't wait for say, all you've done is pump
him up.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Yeah. I think it's going to be a massive and
a really good game of football, I really do. I
think I think that picked a really really good side Queensland.
Obviously we always pick you know, we've always got players
that are ready and herbs in that position always do
their job and they're always up for it. And I
believe that I picked the very strong team. And I'm

(03:23):
actually very on pump. I'm actually very excited for the.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
Game, Queen by how much.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
First games I feel always close. I think it'll be
by two or four. I think it could be like
sixteen twelve, low score fourteen.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
Yeah, okay, nice? All right, Well, we'll talk to you
next week and we'll see see what you're doing for Origin,
because we've got some plans. You might want to come
along see what we do.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
I'm pretty vocal, so what I make it fun exactly
pretty cranky robins

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
