Speaker 1 (00:12):
I heard podcasts year more kiss podcasts, play lists and
listen live on the Freeheart.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Now with the podcast.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Yeah and uh, look, as you all know, like Robin said,
she knows a lot of NRL coaches these days and
hasn't found him with a sense of humor. But I
can tell you right now, Des Hasler, who is the
Titans coach, well, well is n't til the end of
the year, has a sense of humor. Hang on, I
know his name. He's been around for a million. He
was mainly a successful coach and player. He played played
(00:49):
three hundred games, unbelievable. But yeah, I think he's greatly
I really do. I believe he's he was right for
the job. But before I get to the serious part
about theirs, I want to give him some of our
some of my favorite highlights of DEAs in the press conferences.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
Comes to understanding the policy about he's whose name you
cannot mention, so let's called him Boldemort. So you can't
say anything nice about them, you can't say anything positive
about them, you can't say anything about the goolden worts.
When it comes to the golden wortes, I'll just do
what the policy says and I'll move on. Were ugly.
(01:27):
The cows were probably a little bit uglier, but the
referees were the ugliest. I thought the bloke with the
whistle was a bit dodgy. I thought the referee was poor,
very very poor.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
Can you talk to us about your decision to build
the dojo on site here? And I guess the plans
for the preseason?
Speaker 2 (01:47):
Yeah? Not to be completely honest, it's a side business. Yeah,
it's it's a function center. I do weddings, I can
bury it. I do funerals on the field if I
can spread your ashes, and I'd like to cut any
wedding venue in the gold cast standard.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Is that why they got rid of it?
Speaker 2 (02:10):
To be a guy? I don't know.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
Hey, yeah, what he has to do. Every time he
said that about a coach, he got attend more than that.
It kept guy, I think, yeah, yeah, yeah, that seems
talking about real.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
Yeah, so he just didn't care.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
I mean he said what everyone what every coach was,
so he could say. If I'm honest, I think he
just used to get to a point where enough's enough, Like,
come on, does that mean that now if he leaves
the Titans, that's it for him?
Speaker 2 (02:41):
As he's sixty what.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Is he sixty four? Yeah, it's hard to say, because
I think he's I think I really believe that is
a great coach, like that old school mentality. You know,
it works, it really does, Like you've got to be
tough in this game, and and I think he gets
the best out of players. Still, Like, but aren't they losing?
Speaker 2 (03:03):
Yeah, they're going to be Woulden Spoon.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
I think, yeah they are, But like they've done this
has been then for how many years now, Like you
know Ages for a long time now, like the gold
coach can beat the best teams, but then Louise against
the worst and that to mean then for Ages so
that you can't say they don't have the right squad
and roster. But after this long you've got to start
looking at like not just the coaches, surely, you know,
(03:27):
it's got to be the culture. It's got to you've
got to look at the recruitment or you know, you've
got to start looking at other other reasons, Like you
can't always just be the coach, especially when he's been
so successful at that clubs.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
And Manly had a couple of premierships under him.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
Yeah, I think, but very sessfull great team for so
long under him, you know, so he can do it.
But yeah, I think to turn a club around, it
takes time. It really is like three to five years.
It's not easy anymore to turn a club around, Like
it really isn't the salary cap, the talent like this year,
(04:04):
the NRL, the games, like the competition. I know what
you think, but this is it hasn't been this close
for eight years. The last time I remember this, I
think there was six four points between the first and
tenth and I remember that like that was hard, Like
we were I think we were fourth, but only on
the four and against Yeah, you know, it's a great
(04:26):
comp This year they're really close. Yeah, and they've played
great against some really good teams. They really have. And
I thought I've seen a massive shift in them this
year at the start of the season. But then when
they start talking about sacking the coach, you know, all
this and that they just started doing that because that's
(04:47):
just external noise you don't need. So I really do
feel for him because I really thought that's who they
needed to change that club. And I thought therefore two
or three. But yeah, and they had a lot of
players signed for a few years, so you can't really
get your own squad. You know, if there's players still
(05:08):
sign for multiple years, it's hard to move players on
and get you know it is, It's really hard. But
I wish him all the best, I really do. I
was this just announced over the weekend that he was going. Yeah, yeah, weekend.
But Josh Hanna Yeah, Now he was a cowboy player. Yeah,
he was a player assistant for Queensland and great guy,
(05:30):
really good. I think he'll he'll be he's going to
be the new coat. Yeah, I like him. Just discovered
your des Hasler, But hey, why didn't you stand up?
Comedy man? Does get doing the tight five of the.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
Ticket?
Speaker 1 (05:50):
Josh is an assistant at the Shafts at the moment. So okay,
he's been in successful clubs. Yeah, well he's been for Queensland.
He's great, but he's.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Never been in charge before, so that'll be interesting.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
We need someone fun, yeah, well to take over from
Den have to come out swinging
Speaker 2 (06:10):
A
