Speaker 1 (00:13):
Belt you can't go back to Away wi Us.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
He's just released his third studio album, The Epilogue, and
it's about to embark on a world tour aptly named
the Epilogue World Tour.
Speaker 1 (00:33):
This morning, Robin Kid, Welcome, Dean Louis. Thank you, boing me.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
I forgot because I was supposed to you a couple
of years ago. I forgot how tall you are, Deane.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
Yeah, t all out six two. I think yes too.
Speaker 5 (00:45):
Yeah, because normally the singers come in and we expect
them to be like Robin Hyde, like yeah five nothing.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Yeah, I mean this happened yesterday. So many people come
up to me after the little little pop ups on
They're like, they're like, you're a little tall than I
expect it. I don't know if it's like short man
energy or something.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
I'm always yeah, I'm like people are always surprised some
of what.
Speaker 4 (01:03):
But yeah, were you like a second row?
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Did you play rugby or right played basketball?
Speaker 4 (01:08):
Basketball tour?
Speaker 1 (01:10):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:10):
I was like, yeah, but I was. I was the
center in my team. I'm six two, but like Australian basketball,
you know, in my high school, and we were we
got wrecked.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
We got wrecked by every taine. If you're the big man, yeah,
I was the tallest and we sucked. Dean.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
I really enjoyed last night. You did a special sort
of quick little VP experience for your super fans at
the Fortitude Musical. But the thing that I noticed and
loved about you is that you were saying, I'm going
to play stuff from my new album and then kept
forgetting the lyrics.
Speaker 5 (01:38):
Yes, I think I think we've got some audio audio
second album.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
It's a very embarrassing story, but it's true. And this
song was like the last song I wrote for her
to kind of like say, and I also wrote it
to say, this is like the last time I knew
I was ever going to see her, and I gave
her a hug and I knew that was that was
kind of the end. So maybe you guys can relate
to it. But it's just am I called the last
bit of us.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
What was it? The masking the fans. Yeah, it's not great,
it's not great.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
I mean, but this happens, and at least it was
a small venue. Man that it's been broadcast now it's
the exactly thanks. But it's the worst thing is when
you do that on like a big stage. But the
thing is, whenever you mess up, they love it. Like,
you know, I did this. I did this show in
Switzerland a while ago and the first song I screwed
up and everyone come outs me off, just tell me
how much they loved it. I think it makes you
(02:36):
seem more like human. So I should I should plan.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
That, do it more. Yeah, we should.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
And you know it's live, no one, there's nothing, there's
no pre recording going on. If you're stuff it up, you.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Know exactly exactly, and luckily, unfortunately I do stuffup quite
a lot.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
I do want to know, though, are you in a relationship,
because if you ever find love, your songs songs could
potentially suck in the future.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
That's true. But no.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
But but it's like you guys, friends. I think I
get that question a lot. They go like, you know,
they you guys'd be like, you know, you write these
songs about people, But it's the same as you, guys,
and when you're going through life, you're every interaction. You're
looking for a story to tell on the show. So
it's like they never you never run out. And you
can also write an album about one. I wrote my
second album about one one girl, you know what I mean?
(03:20):
Like it's not you can really embellis a little bit
and you know it starts.
Speaker 4 (03:24):
Is that where you're most comfortable writing about sadness?
Speaker 2 (03:26):
Though?
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Like?
Speaker 5 (03:27):
Is that?
Speaker 1 (03:27):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (03:27):
Yeah, I'll tell you why happy songs are so hard
to write. Think about it, like they only connect to
the ears. But if you write a sad song, it
can be like the heart and the ears, so's it
doesn't have to be as good.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
Yeah, to break, That's true.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
I will say the one song that I was so
glad to hear the end result, And I always thought
if I ever stand in front of you, I would ask,
what happened? Was the song that you wrote about your dad?
How do I say goodbye? But he's okay?
Speaker 4 (03:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (03:56):
So I wrote the song because he was really sick
and I didn't know what was going to happen. And
then he got a stem cell transplant and basically saved
his life. And he's been coming on the road with
me and playing the song and we actually put that
at the end of the YouTube video. Like on YouTube,
we have this montage. Then right at the end we're like,
by my dad, this is what happened. Was in remission,
and the YouTube ads covered it, so like you know,
the YouTube ads and so no one could ever read
(04:18):
the text because we put it in there, but no
one can see it.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
But he's playing with you. Is he play an instrument?
Speaker 2 (04:23):
He plays guitar. He taught me guitar and everything, and
he's he's been coming up on stage. He's he's very
nervous about my life, but he's come up in like
you know, the end more and he's coming up on
a bunch of shows.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
He's going to come to the UK.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
I think in Wembley. We sold that Wembley. He's going
to come up and play there.
Speaker 5 (04:38):
And he loves people and people who don't know that
he survived.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Or my uncle or something. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:46):
Yeah, but it's really it's cool to have that moment
with my dad, just like I wrote a song about
him and then it's a hit and then we're playing
it on stage and it's about him possibly going.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
So I've been very lucky.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
But you know, other people tell me their stories about
that song and how they relate to it's.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
Very special and you sorry, we just bypassed the product
that you've sold out Wembley.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
Oh it's crazy. Yeah yeah sold it out. Yeah, like
a month ago.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
We're doing We're doing the Hammersmith Apollo is like an
opening show, so it's it's as well.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
So it's just it's weird.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
In the UK and Europe, it's it's bigger than it
is in Australia.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
Come on, mate, river stage.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
River stage to make where was you can't believe we
sold that out. I can't believe we sold it out. Yeah,
that's great, but you know, for instance, the Zigodome, we
have these weird pockets that are huge, like in Denmark
it's huge, and in the Netherlands we're doing two zigodomes
and it's like the fifteen thousand capacity and it's so
in the Netherlands, every song goes just big there and
so they so Australia is kind of like one of
my it's kind of like the third or fourth biggest placements,
(05:40):
which is really it's amazing.
Speaker 5 (05:41):
It's strange though, it's strange that we don't love you
as much as the people from the Netherlands.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
No, no, I think, but it's very Australian. I think it's
also very Australian, you know what I mean, Like it's
hard to it's hard to break out in your own
country in Australia. Yeah, I have to be popping off overseas.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
But you know, well you you are one of the
greatest songwriters, honestly and wonderful. It is sold out at
the River Stage. However, we do have a double nice
so if you're a massive Dean Lewis fan, then please
give us a call thirteen one oh sixty five and
you can see this extraordinary man potentially stuff up any
of your new ones.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
I'll be up the whole time. We plan mess up
on the first song.
Speaker 4 (06:17):
Goody Good and the brand new single is called Empire.
Let's have a listen.
Speaker 6 (06:21):
I feel so so.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
You gotta feel in the crowd's going to sing along
to that one.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
Yeah, it's got to be Quie vibe in it, you know,
we ever sing along and yeah, it's just I'm really
excited about this one. It's a bit different and fans
of love and anthemic very themic, yes it.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
Yes, Okay.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
Gemma of Mango Hill, Hi, Hi, Hi, you want to
say hi to Jean.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
Oh god, yes, hello, Jemma, Hay you going him?
Speaker 2 (06:58):

Speaker 5 (07:29):
I love you, and well, thank you so much for

Speaker 4 (07:33):
But I feel like we could chat for ages.
Speaker 5 (07:35):
Last time we spoke about because both of our brothers
are obsessed with crypto.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
We spoke about that. So maybe we'll just do something
for the podcast because I want to find out what's
going on.
Speaker 5 (07:43):
