Speaker 2 (00:22):
Now with Correos the podcast Yesterday the Brisbane to Gold
Coast Ride for for Marta Hospital for raising money for
cancer research. Now we it was a classic start for
for us at five point thirty start. I did get
there before we took off, although it did involve me
running down Gray Street in South Bank in cycling shoes
(00:46):
and trying to get to the start line because I
got dropped my Uber dropped me like a full kilometer
from the start line because the road was closed.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
Dropped off right next to the tune.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Yeah, said that's what I should.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
But anyway, we got there for the start and Corey
and I were heading off and with your mate Phil,
who's a great bloke, yes, who's done big right, feels
he's a pro.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
He's done like Brisbane to Sydney before, like yeah three
years ago he did these.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Yeah, but he knew what he was doing and and
we did not. But we and I just didn't have
time to train.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
I didn't have.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Time between what all doing the house stuff and you know,
having kids and all that.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
I just didn't have time. So but just life, and
I just thought to myself.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
I've done big rides before. I did that thing like
eight years ago the prison.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
I'll be right, I'll be fine.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
And so what happened, and so then cut to the
forty k mark, which is where we had our first break.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
This is Corey talking to camera.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
Don't know where Kit White, me is, I don't know
where Phil cow is. I've lost my team these I
can't keep.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
Back Corey jump. Corey jumped on a paloton. This group
went by fast, and Corey jumped on and I wanted
to have a.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
Crack because I enjoyed riding the bike at home and
I'm like, I haven't done a road ride for eight years.
So I just jumped on the back of him. And
I end up realizing I'm like, I am about thirty
five about forty k's an hour for like the first
forty k And then I stopped and I thought, I
wait for him here. I wasn't going to stop, and
about they ruck up, I said, I was that far front.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
It's in good ten minutes and feel very kindly stuck
with me winging. Hey, I wasn't winging.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
I was just like, I just what I noticed is
that I could ride okay until we got to just
the slightest incline them five degrees even five.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
You're on slow right down, you're on the bike lane. Oh, sorry,
the bus lane. And then you cut off and went
over the hills.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Yeah, it was in all the bad We're going over
and back and across the highway, but not on the highway.
It was like the roads next to them sort of.
It was all blocked off. They had coppers everyone like
block and road pedestrians cars, so we could get free
run pretty much.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
And so the by the by, I think about the
sixty K mark I started. Every time I lift my
leg up in a pedal, I'd feel just a little
twinge of a cramp, and then it sort of got
worse and worse, and by the time we got to
our second break, so it was about seventy five k's.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, seventy eight, seventy eight k mark.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
Yeah, we were seventy eight twenty two, twenty two to
I fetch you. I reckon.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
Had a pin.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
Just know where I can go that doesn't quit.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Yeah, I'll see if we can make it.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
I started, it wasn't well.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
I got to the point where I couldn't pedal without cramping,
and I couldn't stand up because both of our back.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
Sides were so sore from not riding properly.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
O ye that I couldn't stand up in the pedals
to give my bum relief because then both my legs were.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
Cramped and collapsed back down on the box.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
Yeah, and we took off again, and then after about
two or three k I was slowing down. Phil and
I were slowing down. I looked at my watch and
it gave us how fast we are, and we dropped
below ten k's and yeah, he'd kept.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
Just at the at the eighty two mark. I just
at eighty two k mark. So technically I was in
the Gold Coast, so I had ridden to the Gold Coast.
But eighty two k mark I could not pedal at
all or move in any direction without cramping.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
And I thought I was going to fall into the road.
I was that much part.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
But you only had eighteen to go, I know, but
at ten k's an hour, it was going to take
me two more hours. Yeah, and these guys was waiting
for me, and I was like, you know what, I'm
wrecking your ride. And I knew that we had Phil's
sun coming to pick us up in the car, and
I was like, what am I doing.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
I'm wrecking your day.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
I'm not going to achieve anything other than hurt myself
for the next two hours.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
Quitting, I just stopped. I stopped at some shops at
Hope Island.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
Sees that.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Yeah, I just I hopped off the bike.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
I nearly fell off the bike and I just said, yeah,
you know, I'll just get I'm jasper to come pick
me up.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
I started cramping and I went was contagious, and I
just went, I got to go.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
So I just gone. I left Phil, Are you bolted?
Just to get that eighteen case?
Speaker 1 (05:07):
Do the last eighty? And K going thirty K's and
I just had to go because both everything was gone
and if I stopped, just seese and we finally got there.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
We got there. A man down there one I didn't
make it. He's a good effort by Kip. We've got
to thank him.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
He jumped on board.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
Didn't have to thank you, matey. I very disappointed. We'll
have to do it next year. I can't stand that.
I that I didn't make it, So we'll have to
do it next year. Will you train next year? Yes, heavily.
At least I believe.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
I believe we had a song written about Oh yeah,
so written.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
Actually, let's let's when we come back from news, because
Cory's anus has written a song, not just mine.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
You would, did you say? Has written a song and
it's coming up.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Cory's backside had written a song after the Brisbane of
Gold Coast ride.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
Uh huh uh? And and this this is it. You
don't know the roads are run. You never saw what
of become.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
I think you walk the path.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
I'd say, step inside and share my fate. I'll build
a life with hands alone, some burning fire, and so
my fire once burned, but.
Speaker 3 (06:34):
The dark and so my life. Are you telling me
that's crazy? Who actually is that? It's fine? Goodness, I
think it was. It was more than the morning at
the start. It was actually the appropriate
