Speaker 1 (00:12):

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Kid Now with Coos the podcast.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Premiere, the Australian premiere A Pretty Woman the musical. Yes,
I can't remember a time when a musical has debuted
here in Brisbane. It was fun, it was good, The
music was excellent. All written by Brian Adams, who told
me when he was in Brisbane last month that it
was a super hard project to write.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
It was one of the most arduous songwriting feats for me.
There was a lot of back and forth thing all
the time. If you think about the movie, the movie
is basically a series of close ups, So how do
you take that concept and bring it to the stage,
and not only that, take it to the stage with

(01:06):
songs that move it from one scene to the next.
It was a really big job.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
And did he use Summer of sixty nine? This is
the big question now.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
There's none of the traditional bride out of it there.
Although I did feel a couple of the duwets We've
got a learner in it from our newsroom, and I
did feel a couple of the duets where Brian they're skish.

Speaker 4 (01:25):
Well, I'm not super familiar with all of his work,
Like I just knew a couple of hits. So when
you were saying it's very hymn, I thought, I don't know.
I don't remember like a lot of the hooks from
the songs. It all just melded into one story. But
I think that's a good thing, right when you don't
really notice when you're watching dialogue versus a song it's
a musical.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
It all just melts into one and the other thing
we should mention.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
And we had Samantha Jade come in when they were
promoting Pretty Woman, and she told us.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
That this was her first ever musical.

Speaker 5 (01:55):
So they kind of called me and asked me to
come into audition. And I was like, I've not done
musical theater, like I did one play when I was fourteen,
twelve or fourteen. I did Sound of Music. I was
one of the kids. But that was like only in Perth,
like they come and get you in the four weeks,
and I was so nervous to go in and I
was like, you know what, I'm just going to do it.

(02:17):
And then I went in and they liked me, and
then my managers like, I think this might be you
need to really think if you want this, because you
might actually vocate it.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
She did act in the Kylie series.

Speaker 4 (02:29):
But she was excellent, really, really, Samantha Jade is that
girl like she belongs on the stage. Amazing vocals and
also it's like pop singing is so different to musical theater,
like she just has the projections.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
Dancing she was funny. Oh the other.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
The other stand up performance for me, and nothing against
the guy who played Edward. I think his name is
Ben Wood, who I don't really know, but is that
the Richard Gear was tim O Maddic was so Richard
Gear nomadic, is like he's like the narrator, He's like
the funny guy. He plays a number of characters.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
He's the hotel manager. I don't know. Musical theater practicing,
isn't it.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
Great?

Speaker 4 (03:17):
It was fantastic. He was one of the standouts. And
again dancing just blew me away dance.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
There was a problem I had though, and I mean,
I'm a great lover of the movie and I will
tip my hat to them that they included all of
those iconic phrases that we loved.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
The laugh, the necklace, laugh do that.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
Yes, When Vivian went back to the shop and said,
big mistake because they wouldn't serve her the day before
when she was dressed like a hookah. Like, all of
those iconic moments were there. The thing that undid me
is part of the greatness of Pretty Woman was Julia
Roberts wardrobe. Yes, and when she goes to the polo,
she wears a brown poka dot dress. It's so iconic

(04:01):
that a number of people last night were dressed in
brown polka dots. Samantha Jade was wearing a blue.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
Poka dot dress.

Speaker 5 (04:09):
They got a color.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
You can't do that. Yeah, everything else was there.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
The only issue had was their woodrobe. Like the red
dress was there. When Samantha Ja came she was wearing
all the red.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
Did she do the big hooker boots, the big safety
pin spots on?

Speaker 4 (04:28):
That iconic light outfit was spot on. But yeah, I
didn't even notice that.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
Didn't she wear the I.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Don't understand and just comparing she did just okay these two.
When Samantha Jade came in, I've never seen a pair
of grown men act like three years old. So professionals,
we were just being polite. Listen to her podcast when
we replay what's my scene? And Kip Whiteman creates a

(04:56):
job for himself so we can show off in front
of Cement bline.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
But I will say anyone who wants to see it,
it is fantastic. Like the sets, It's like the actors
are at the front and the set is turning from
the bedroom to a crop to the polo.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Would hy okay okay,
