Speaker 1 (00:00):
Is it ever okay to talk about someone's weight or
to ask someone about their weight? Thirteen one O six five.
Now I know the hr answer to that is definitely not. Yeah,
the workplace, in your workplace, but you know, late genuinely,
if you've lost a huge amount of weight, would you
like people to notice that?
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Yeah, I mean twice in my life I've lost a
dramatic amount. And yeah, of course when you work hard
at it and then someone goes, wow, what did you do?
Speaker 1 (00:26):
Okay, well, let me tell you what Barbara's done. So
the person in question is Melissa McCarthy, right, wonderful comedic
actress who has yoyoed in her lifetime when it comes
to dieting. Now, these two and I think this is important.
I think you would say they are friends. They recorded
a song for Barbara's on Core album, A Duet, back
(00:47):
in twenty sixteen. So does this change the impact of
what she says, because it's definitely blown up online. Melissa
was attending an opening night of a big thing in
LA and she wrote on her insta pastor's only because
she was wearing this beautiful pastoral outfit. Only to honor
the incredible Matthew born thirteen at a gala last night
(01:08):
with the fella Allan Adam Shankman, who's the director, right,
so people like, wow, this is so cool. Glenn Close
said gorgeous. Octavia Spencer said that's yummy. Elizabeth Thanks, commented Stunner.
Marussa Hagate said gorgeous. But Barbara Streisan said, give him
(01:28):
my regards? Did you take a zempick?
Speaker 2 (01:32):
So is he give the director my regards?
Speaker 1 (01:34):
And then did you take his mpick?
Speaker 2 (01:37):
So no compliments with it? Nahh that's weird.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Is that an okay question? Because if you're a good
friend of something someone, Yeah, do you take a zmpick?
Speaker 2 (01:47):
Yeah, you might say that you wouldn't post. I don't
think you'd post it.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Right. Well, the comment, I mean everyone piled on and
now it's been deleted. Okay, But I'm genuinely curious because
there are so many, I mean, we've talked about it
on air, so many big celebrities who they are rumored,
and some are being really honest and said, yep, I've
taken his m pic like Kelly Clarkson.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
It's supposed to be it was created as a diabetes drug, yes,
and then one of the things that happened. They gave
it to patience and they all lost weight and they went, oh, okay,
what's happening.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
Yeah, because you stopped being hungry, you don't want to eat, right?
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Do you reckon? That's offensive? Do you reckon? It's offensive
because the assumption is is that you didn't It wasn't
just because you decided to work hard and be diligent
about your diet. You took tablets. Do you reckon? That's
is that the problem?
Speaker 1 (02:31):
The problem with that is and I've actually done this.
I have done this with a girlfriend. But she's a
really good made of mine and we talk about I
ran a marathon with her, like we're really good mates
for a long time. And I said, have you done that?
Speaker 2 (02:42):
You know?
Speaker 1 (02:44):
And she was like, I tried, it didn't work for me,
Like it was a genuine conversation. I don't know that
i'd post that on her social media the post.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
You know, and maybe that's just Barbara showing her age,
not realizing that the world sees posts.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
Yeah, I don't know, but I still think there are
people who well, you know, you've said if you've lost weight, Yeah,
but is the question about his zimpic the problem not
the weight.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
I wonder whether it is whether that's saying so, yeah,
it's obvious that you've lost a dramatic amount of weight.
It can't have been just because you worked hard. It
must be because you took these tablets that stop you
from being hungry.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
Okay, you just lost twenty kilos in three weeks. I mean,
how do you do that any other way?
Speaker 2 (03:22):
Yeah, some type of virus, a limb, some top of
you've got some type of stomach walg.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Yeah, that's the other problem. If you get really.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
Sick, yeah quickly, people ask you then.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
And people ask you then, are Amanda of tin Galper?
What do you reckon about this?
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Look, it is such a personal journey. It is a
very difficult thing. While I've done myself, Rather than say
what have you done? Say hey, you look great? You know, don't.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Ask Okay, they did it, and just leave it there.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
Just leave it there. If they then choose to tell
you how they did it, great, Because I lived with
being obese most of my adult life, and you know,
people push you. You've got to do something, You've got
to do something. When you do something, it's like a
what have you done?
Speaker 2 (04:13):
In an accusing way?
Speaker 3 (04:14):
When you tell them. They're like, oh, you took the
easy way out and say that I had weight loss
surgery and people go, that's the easy way out, and
I'm telling you it's not the easy way out. No,
it just mind mess. And two years down the track
and there are days where I still struggle. I'm half
(04:36):
the way I used to be. I've still got more
to go. But you know, now I'm dealing with excess
skin and people look at me and you know, you
can't wear singlets.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
And it's complicated, isn't it.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
It is a really difficult journey. And you know, rather
than say what have you done? And judge people, or
maybe you just say, hey, you look great, and then
if they so choose to discuss it with you.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
It's so hard with human curiosity though, you know, because
when you said I've lost heaps of weight a minute
before you generously shared how you've done it, I was
sitting there in my mind going, I wonder what you did?
Do you know what I mean? Like, you just want
to know, especially if you're someone who carries a bit
of weight. You want to go, is there a secret?
Is there something that I can do to make it easier?
Speaker 3 (05:19):
I get that but look at it this way. Okay.
I was two hundred kilos when I did my weight
loss surgery. It's out there.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
Now, done, mate, done.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
But I've had friends do it at one hundred kilos
and they weren't happy at one hundred kilos, and I
feel cheated.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
Why do you feel cheated by that?
Speaker 3 (05:43):
Well, if I'm happy at a.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
Hundred, they're not, right, okay, because that's the goal. Yeah, yeah, okay.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
So when someone that I don't see is big or
carrying excess weight says I need to do something, I
get really judgy because you've got no idea what it's like.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
You know, right, human beings are judgmental.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
Look, the world is so full of judgmental Karen. Since COVID,
it is really really difficult. So it is very hard
for people to talk about and people judge, and you know,
things like that, like I walk into a takeaway store
to buy dinner for family, and people look at me
(06:32):
as what are you in there for? And I'm not
buying for me, I'm going for other people, you know.
I pick up a bag of lollies for the grandkids
and people glare at me.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
And it's like, really, thanks for sharing. Amanda, no drama
