Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now you were away for two weeks. We've all had holidays,
and you did something that so many separated parents do.
You leave your child with their mum. Yeah, and you
went off on holidays with your girlfriend.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
It's one of those things like being part of a
separated family sucks in so many ways, and that this
is the one advantage is that you can actually go
away and know that they have got the best of care. Yeah,
you don't have to stress about him. And so I
just sort of decided, let's let's take advantage, let's actually
go and we'll go somewhere that that Rafi couldn't really
come with us because he's turning four in a couple
(00:34):
of weeks. So we went to Vietnam. You don't want
to visity about pictures of Disneyland going how cool is
exactly exactly? And you know, in Vietnam, the reason I'd
say that, you look, there's plenty of people that take
their kids there, but for me, like the transport and
things like that, it's loose. Yeah, there's no no one's
got kid seats in the cars and things like that.
There's people, you know, there's kids, no helmets on the
front of scooters and that's.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
That's not your thing.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
That's not it's not for me.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
So first time you've left him for.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
This long yeah, but yeah, a long shot. It was weird,
like we definitely, you know, because Naomi you know as well,
she's really like a parent. We missed him so much
and we ended up facetiming him a few times. And
it was kind of weird because at first I thought, Oh,
he's going to love to see all the things around
something and this is the pool and this is this.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
He didn't love that at all because he wasn't there.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Yeah, he did it first like versigo, that's really cool.
And then after a while, like on I think maybe
the second or third caller, you know, he'd asked to
look at things, and then I could tell him was
sort of getting jack of it, and he he said,
I'm mom. Like he's talking to his mum in the
back and he goes, Mum, can I watch blah blah
blahhtoon And his mom goes, yeah, maybe wait till you
(01:42):
finished on your phone call with dad, And then he goes, no,
I'm finished. Then I see his little finger touch the
screen he goes, and I was gutted. I was like
oh my goodness, and it just so happened to be
my birthday.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
And did he realize it was your birthday?
Speaker 2 (02:00):
They call back, like his mum going to call back
because don't you want to sing happy birthday?
Speaker 1 (02:05):
Well done?
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Amber? Yeah, and he's kind of gone, happy birthday to
you and then hung up again.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
And I was all right, because this is the thing
that kids can like really punish you if they're not
involved in your day to day life. And it sounds
like he was he was had enough.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
Yep, he was not happy. It was like once we
got home, he was great. We got like the best
cuddles from him on the feet straight away.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
What happened? You went straight from the airport to get him.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
We came We landed at ten pm, so he was
already bed. That was Friday night, so Saturday morning, from
like seven am, Amber dropped him around and you know,
he's just like a classic four year old like he
does it. He didn't really take taking the big moment.
You know, he was standing at the front of Hey, dad,
have you seen mom's got a scratch on her car?
Straight to show me that, you know, no big sentimental
(02:53):
moment of huge cuddles.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Meanwhile, your little heart is like banging so bad.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
He would have heard me run for the front door
when you know, I was so hanging to see him,
and he just wanted to show me scratches on mum's car.
And then he's like, there's my bike in the garage. Dad,
Yes it is mate. And then but he did eventually
gave us really nice cuddles, and about about two hours
in he was playing with his magnet toys and he
just looks up and he goes, I've missed you dad.
(03:19):
Oh there's the moment I mad it was the best.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
See they say, what do they say about quality verse quantity? Right,
Like you actually have to be in the moment with
them to allow those quality moments to happen.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
Yeah, and they don't do it.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
Kids do not do it on our agenda.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Not ever, No, not ever. No, they don't realize the
big moment is when you want it to be. It's yeah,
it's whenever he wanted to have it, and he had
it and it was great and you were there, yes,
and you went thanks back when I missed you too.
But yeah, it was really nice and I wish you
could all check out the bittifl furto Naomi took on
her socials of their holiday, especially one of the four
kids about refugees playing all over YouTube on a train,
showing it would have been possible to take him after all.
(03:56):
I almost didn't want to show him. Those kids. These
are the kids in the train cart. These ran kids
just jumped in our train carriage with us. Yeah, and
we're just standing all over the bed, playing around, And.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
You would have how were you?
Speaker 2 (04:08):
Well? I was all right, except one of them, the
little boy. I saw his mom take him off to
the toilet barefoot, and then he came back in and
then he stood on my pillow and I nearly vomited.
Oh my goodness, I'm scarred by that little live your
life not with we feet on my pillow
