Speaker 1 (00:12):
I heard podcasts, hear more kiss podcasts, playlists and listen
live on the Free Heart. Robin now with the podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Last night, Correy, you were You're up late because you're
at the Broncos ball.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
I was up late. The two of us had a
reason to be out late.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
I'll get into my reason a bit later, That's what
I'm saying.
Speaker 4 (00:37):
And obviously, you know, we all had our guesses who
was going to be the players, player and the Player
of the year.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Yes, and this was yesterday on the show. Actually pains
should the man for the boys for Stags?
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (00:53):
So yeah, you just.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Bailey was right boring and I agree with Robin.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
Should the man?
Speaker 2 (01:08):
Yes, yes, I agree with Robins.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
But look, not only was there the awards last night,
but were farewell. You know, one of the one of
the leaders of the club who's been there since it started.
Speaker 5 (01:24):
On behalf of the hundreds of players who have been
part of the Broncos squad in the last.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
Thirty eight seasons.
Speaker 5 (01:30):
The honor of winding up Springer one last time.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
But the reality is that no care about the club
in spring.
Speaker 5 (01:36):
He simply loves the Broncos and we are far better
off for having He's involved for thirty eight seasons that
he's dedicated to us. We do issue all the mess
for the next chapter in your life.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
What did he do? Springer?
Speaker 2 (01:48):
So that's Darren Locke you're speaking.
Speaker 4 (01:50):
Yeah, so that was Darn Locke's speaking about Tony Spencer.
And he's been there since started, so seven premierships. He's
been a part of this club. What is the players?
Speaker 3 (01:58):
So he does everything. He's a jack of all trades.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
He's our groundskeeper, he fixes stuff, he's he was our strapper.
He ran the water from day dot until the NRL changed.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
The rule so we didn't do it.
Speaker 4 (02:12):
He's yeah, strapped angles for training, strapped shoulders, he fixed bokes, cars,
he gave right.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
He just did everything. He was like the dad of
the club.
Speaker 4 (02:23):
So he's retiring and he's retired after thirty eight years.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
And yeah, his speech was really emotional last night and
poor oh tell me why? Oh no?
Speaker 4 (02:36):
Yeah, he just he's like he's just he just is
he's just the club, you know, like Spring. He's a
great fellow. And yeah, I wish him all the best
with with what's to come.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
So what did he do for you?
Speaker 4 (02:51):
I know, he's just he's a cranky man, but just
a great guy, you know, just a down out, great,
great fella. And yeah, he's going to be sorely missed
and everyone loves him, and yeah, I just wish him
all the best.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
But look, going on from that, you don't get.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Like we all talk about the big players. We all
talk about, you know, the culture of the Broncos. The
whole of the city was behind the Broncos. But behind
every great club and culture, there are people that are
holding that for you.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
With him, Yeah, he is honestly the heart and soul
of that club, and he's the reason why I love
going every day.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
We're seeing that, like.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
Whether he was hating life or if he was loving life,
which is rare.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
But you like the cranky man, don't you.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
Everyone used to pick out, you know, push his buttons.
But great guy.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
And then obviously we got to celebrate another great guy.
Ben Hunt got his two hundred game award for the
Brison Broncos. But he spoke about a dream that he
had as a kid.
Speaker 5 (03:52):
I want a way to Dragons. I never thought ever
I gave an opportunity to come back to this club
and obviously to play for this great club again. It
means so much to me and to play two hundred
games year it really doesn't mean a lot. Remember my
first day of Troy was off a pass from Lockie
and to equal him on Grand Final they made it.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
It really is you know what dreams are made on.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
And now he sounds like lucky too.
Speaker 4 (04:19):
You know, I was really happy to see you know,
Ben Hunt, you go up there and speak about just
all the demons of have left him because we got
no idea what he went through, and really.
Speaker 3 (04:29):
Happy for him. And we've all wondered what was said.
Speaker 4 (04:31):
Right, you bought up when Reese Walsh picked him up
when he got kicked in the head and then he
got final.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
He stumbled, got concussed and sort of gave him a cuddle.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
Yeah, And everyone was wondering what were they saying because
everyone could see them in changing words.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
Well we found out what they said.
Speaker 5 (04:46):
You ran, I was off the field and I was
in all sorts. I said in recent him and as
we're going to take care of the kicking for the
rest of the game, and obviously they didn't, and I
think we got to a kick for the last eight minutes.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
He was last requests the emotional Lovey Dubby. It was
more of a don't stuff up.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
Can I ask you one question. We've talked a lot
about this, particularly yesterday about Reese Walsh inspiring me and
asked to not drink.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
Yes, was he drinking?
Speaker 3 (05:15):
I believe he's had a few.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Okay, so all the season, but not anymore. No. Yeah,
And he gave his speech last night.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
It was it was interesting to hear his speech and
he actually got me choked up when he actually spoke himself.
This place is incredible, the history, respect the people, and
the place that you will be defined.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
Always remember it's a privilege to work for the Broncos,
not a ride. He just sums it up perfect spring.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
So what's he doing is going off and not having.
Speaker 4 (05:52):
To deal with Yeah, I think he's just gonna, you know,
probably go camp and he loves his camping and has
a caravan and him and his wife will just go
and hopefully traveling and camp.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
So get cranky at the kids at the campsite.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
Yeah, that's actually that's that's going to be now the front.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
He hasn't got Broncos to you. There'll be kids in
the bar.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
He could be I'm go to hell, but I'll get
out right
