Speaker 1 (00:00):
On Canberras Hit one or four point seven. It's Roden
Gabby Thract.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
There's a fashion item I want to I want to
purchase that. My sister has told me if I do,
she will disown me. And you know I can't be
mad at her about it because I was in the
same boat up until recently where I would not be
caught dead being associated with someone wearing this item.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
This is helpful in two ways. So if you're thinking
of buying your other half a thing, pay attention to
this because this could be diabolical. And if you're thinking
of buying it, except that you will be uninvited from Christmas.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Yeah, I think I'm going to buy it.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
Ah Christmas. I love it.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
I wouldn't mind staying home for Christmas. No, No, it's
probably something she'd be She just wouldn't be seen with
me if I were wearing it.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Can I guess? Yes, it's an utie that you insist
on wearing down the street.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
No, but that is a good one.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Because let me tell you that needs to be more
acceptable if you ask.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Me, absolutely not.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
People say that, people say it down the street.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
It's not that's worse, way worse.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
Well, I know it's bung and doors, so you don't
mind wearing the ugg boots down the street. Not that.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
No, No, it's something because recently I've been walking in
the afternoon and the flies are really annoying. Like there
because there's a lot of cow paddocks around, so there's
a lot of flies and they swarm, and the sweater
you get, the more flies swarm around you, and I
can't handle it anymore. I can't handle it.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
I have one more guess, yes and no.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
It's I know you're gonna guess, and it's no, but
go ahead.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
It had better be a hat with those corks as
no similar.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
It's a net, the net, the fly net. It goes
over your hat and then sucks in at the neck
and so the flies can't touch your face.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
Sign me.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
I've Google and I can get a pink one. And
my sister said it's not good enough. It doesn't change
her opinion on it. Just because it's pink doesn't make
it cool.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
I think I have a greater respect for intelligence than
I do coolness. And again that says something about how
uncool I am. That's smart either, which is really dumb.
This is wrapped on camera four point seven. What a success.
The TikTok Creator Awards were last week in Sydney, the
(02:29):
biggest one they've ever had. The World's Sexiest Man was there.
Jonathan Bailey, Jonathan Bailey from from Wicked was there. It
was just I don't want to say it, but I'm
going to say it. It's better than the logos. I
think it's out shone the low Absolutely it has. And
this is the future because when it comes to the
numbers of followers, not just in Australia but world what's
(02:51):
a global audience? If you're on there's.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
More people viewing tiktoks than there are viewing free to
air TV.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
The this let me tell you our next guest, Eli Haya,
he has over four million followers and so straight out
of the gate, give him the gold LOGGI. It's not
a gold logging, but it is the TikTok Creator of
the Year Award. Congratulations mate, well done.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
Thank you guys. Good morning. How are we well?
Speaker 1 (03:17):
We're really well? I mean, does this start with you
family vlogging or do you start with you know, skits
and sketches in mind, because every other dad is going
Hold in a second, how do we do this?
Speaker 3 (03:33):
It just started out of nowhere, just find entertainment for
me and my family, and I decided to upload it
on TikTok and yeah next next thing. You know, majority
of Australia in the world love it.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
What's your favorite video so far? Because I know that
you get your girls to do prank calls to their
grandma and a bunch of other fun family adventures. What's
your favorite thing to get involved with?
Speaker 3 (03:58):
Then? To film? Most of my content with the kids
is like just on the spot. There's no there's no
prep behind it. But I think one of my most
favorite videos is as one that went very viral where
they were giving me crap for saying hi to another woman.
So I'm a girl dad, so I have I was
genuinely just being polite and yeah, they just told me
(04:18):
I was in trouble and they're like, wait till we
get home. Because I.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
Love that.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
And so having that presence of mind to be quick
on the drawer with the phone and being willing to
turn it on yourself, I guess is where the authenticity
that the world has connected with comes from.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
Yeah, that's right. So I'm originally from wa and I
was working rules, so I always used to record the
kids because I was always away and stuff, so I
used to record it and that would be like the
stuff that I watched before bed and stuff. So I
kind of have that skill of like just recording on
them in the moment stuff. And yeah, now it's turned
into our content.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
So how do your girls feel about being many superstars now?
Like you've got four million followers? But really they do.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
Yeah, they don't really, to be quite fair, they don't
really care. Yeah, they love the experiences and stuff that
we get to do, but they're just your normal kids.
They don't have devices at all or anything like that,
so they're not really on social media. But we go
out in public and stuff and people say what's up
to them and they're just like, oh, hey, yeah, we
(05:20):
love your videos. Were watching. They're like, oh that's cool anyways. Yeah,
it's not too much of a big fuss to them.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
Yeah, girl, dad laugh. It is the greatest. We loved
your acceptance speech there. And when we talk about your
popularity outside Australia around the world, your tongue and heritage,
your your Agha specific heritage. You thank the Polynesians, the Micronesians,
the Milanesians, they love you over there. Do you ever
get to go and visit.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
I have been visiting back home where I'm from in Tonga,
and I guess in the New Zealand and stuff. But
we definitely have some more. I have close ties to
Fiji as well. Someone's definitely on the car for next year,
so hoping to go out. But you're right, we got
so much love from all around the Pacific, and I
truly feel it was that demographic that kind of carried
me through, helped me reach the top of the TikTok Awards.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
Well, you're an unofficial ambassador, you know, for the Pacific
islander community these days.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
Oh, it's something I've held very close to my heart.
I'm really proud of.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
Do you have to keep that in mind when you're
making your videos and be like, oh, I'm a role.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
Model now, yeah, my girls will humble me real quickly.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
Forget about the audience. The girls are in charge. We know, Well,
this is cool. Four million followers online and growing, TikTok
Creator of the Year at the twenty twenty five TikTok
Awards and well done for flying the flag with the
Dad's toommate. You're doing a great job out there. We
appreciate the time come and you shoot some stuff. Coming
for a visit and camera. We'd love to see it.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
Yeah, I'd love to. I haven't been to Camber year,
so definitely on the list.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
We look forward to seeing your next stuff popping up
on TikTok.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
Thank you guys for having me appreciate.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
He's wrong, Gabby rapped on cameras want four point seven
produce a Chelsea Thank goodness you're here every once. He's
still watching Big Brother. There's a week to go on
this thing. Yes, there is his big brother paying people off.
Speaker 4 (07:15):
Yes, well he did so he's there's different ways that
he's trying to get rid of housemates, except like, we're
not waiting till the end of the week for one
person to be evicted because we don't have that many weeks.
We've only got two weeks and there's still so many
of them in the house.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
We said this on the show to the host last week.
We said, do you rush this?
Speaker 3 (07:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (07:32):
And she was like, I want to leave your wanting.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
And and I get that sentiment because they didn't know
if it was going to be popular when they said
the how long it was going to go for at
the start but I'm loving how they're getting rid of
people because big brother is getting brutal.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (07:46):
Years, No, but he got rid of Abiola the other week,
but paid her out fifteen thousand dollars to leave the house.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
I'll take it.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
So she thought that she was getting ten grand but
then got fifteen thousand dollars to leave.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Are going to win?
Speaker 1 (08:00):
No, hundred grand or I think it.
Speaker 4 (08:04):
Is one hundred grand? Yeah, I think it is.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
If you're not going to win, you get fifteen take
the fifty.
Speaker 4 (08:10):
If you just evicted, you're evicted. You don't get anything.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
And points for being self aware enough to go, well,
I'm not going to win this. These delusional maniacs that
go I've got this, and you look at it. You
absolutely don't good for her.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
Yes, no, but in last night's episode, I didn't watch
for Gabby. Did But did they wake the housemates up
at like the middle of the Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
So they've got a challenge going at the moment where
at any point in time, if Big Brother says, so,
you've got to get dressed in full Christmas attire and
go out and see Christmas carols and you have to
look happy about it, because the guys are all like
whispering to each other. Smile, smile, because they've got woken
up in the middle of the night. They're all sleeping soundly,
and they got woken up by the lights and the
(08:49):
sirens and big Brother, and they had to get dressed
in their Santa outfit and they go out to the
lounge room and they have to sing along to jingle bells.
But there's three people that have been nominated this week
that are up for a viction, and Vinnie was one
of them. Now we've got the video of what happened.
The guys are in their Christmas attire. They're in front
of the big screen, which is practically karaoke, give jingle
(09:09):
bells and they're singing along. But toward the end of
the song, you see their faces change, because so do
the lyrics.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
Okay, and it's the middle of the.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
Night, having a great time.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
It's wild to hear them so out of time with
one another. I mean, when you start singing, everyone as humans,
this happens around the world. We instinctively get in time.
These guys must be exhaust.
Speaker 4 (09:38):
They're so tired.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
Now that we're getting into the verse, this is when
the lyrics start to change.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
They do look like they're having fun, but also you're
a bit delirious because.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
And they've been told they have to look like they're
having fun too, So got it. So that's Benny. You
don't know who Vinnie is. He's the young guy with
the mustache, loves to fart and a barber.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
The column was the young guy with the mustache.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
Well, yeah, but he's the young guy with a mustache
and a mullet. Vinnie doesn't have the mullet.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:12):
Ah, that's how you can tell. Yes, you can, all right,
And so.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
It's still going. It's a long time, keep going. It's
just for five more seconds, we're going to get there.
Their face, their faces are going to start falling.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
I don't know the words at this point.
Speaker 4 (10:34):
Anyway, Yeah, you can fast forward.
Speaker 5 (10:39):
Here we go, Here we go.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
Now the lyrics are going to start changing. Thirteen walked
into the house, and now there's only eight.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
Beautiful thirteen walked into the house, and now there's only
a come on, guys, jingle bears. Jingle bears is something
you should know. Well, the public had been voting and
now it's time.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
Time to go. And then it just flashes up on
the screen.
Speaker 4 (11:17):
Vinnie's So.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
Vinnie, Australia has voted and you have been evicted. Christmas
Music's still playing. I tell you, I'm giving so hard.
That's good.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
It was so brutal, so jeez and make sure you're
happy in seeing again at the end.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
That's like Lawyer, best fiction ever. I'm not gonna argue
with that. This is Roy rapped on camera four point seven.
We've just heard an unexpected story. But if we're honest
and you're not watching TV or listening to the radio,
the social media platforms, it may not be in their
best interest. Although I don't understand how not to not
(12:06):
actively promote that for Australians under the age of sixteen
for Facebook tomorrow and then in a week's time for
you know, all the platforms across Australia. It's shut down time.
You don't know about it.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
I'm guessing Instagram too because it's also owned by Meta,
so Meta kicking in a week before the actual band,
which is tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
We've just heard of a fifteen year old who who
was unaware don't know about it. So let's go to
seven News Chief reporter Chris Reason, who's been covering this
every night this week on the nightly news. Reason of
you heard of someone not even knowing about it at
this stage.
Speaker 5 (12:41):
Mate, I think that that's going to be a serious
problem going forward. I think there'll be a lot of
people who aren't connected to us this is anymore. Remember
that generations they don't really watch the TV news bullets anymore,
they don't watch the news website. They might not have
heard about what's about to hit them. And and you're right,
it starts tomorrow. It is dtail.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
So when it does hit and suddenly all of these
accounts are completely shut down and they haven't saved all
of their photos and memories before that happens, are we
going to see a bit of a bit of a right, right.
Speaker 5 (13:16):
We're going to hear this one collective groan from about
one point two million screen maybe million teenagers across the
country who genuinely will be sitting there going what the
hell is going on? In theory, the way this should
work is that those social media platforms tomorrow, as you say, Facebook, Instagram, treadbill,
(13:37):
threads will go and then from the tenth next week
we see the others TikTok, snapchat, YouTube, ex Reddit, kick
and Twitch all switch off. For that age group, anyone
under sixteen, so right now, the band beginners at thirteen,
So anyone thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, right now will be on it,
and all of a sudden they won't be And I
think and doctors are telling us on seven News there's
(13:58):
going to be some really severe withdrawal symptoms for some kids.
There's a huge addiction for some you know, and let's
be honest, how many of us have got kids and
no kids who are completely addicted to this stuff, and
not just in the algorithm of it all, but in
the connection of it all. It's an important part of
their social fabric. That's how they talk, that's how they communicate,
(14:19):
that's how they stay in touch. And you know, there's
going to be some real issues. Is this generation sort
of trying to work out a new way of trying
to communicate. They're all in the same boat together, parents, kids,
who are all going to have to do this. But
there's going to be a lot of angst on these
dates when these platforms switch off.
Speaker 1 (14:36):
The addictive traits are a perpetual worry as a parent.
Do you know what role schools are playing in manage
whether or not it's just this or even the messaging
because we are kids who don't even know what's happening.
So at that school hasn't even been mentioned.
Speaker 5 (14:51):
Yeah, and it should have been. It's pretty it's pretty
sad to hear that schools aren't backing the government. There's
the government has been asking all teachers to get involved
or parents. Of course that's the major conversation for parents
to sit down, and they should have done so by now,
but it's not too late. It's over a week before
those other platforms go. But just to talk through what's
going to happen, talk through alternative ways of communicating, Talk
(15:13):
through what they're going to do with their devices, as
you say, in terms of just downloading any photos or
any information that's data that's important to them. Handles, connection points,
getting phone numbers. That's going to be problem for some
kids because a lot of kids don't use phone numbers,
these handles, and so how will they communicate without these,
without these platforms to do that. They're the sorts of
(15:34):
hurdles we're talking about. We're getting a lot of word
two of seven news that a lot of kids intend
to try and get around this. They're going to fudge
the dates of their birth they're going to re enroll
using fake photos or someone older to register and get
through the video facial scanning technology and get themselves back
on it. But the warning here is that might not
last long because the essentially the platforms are being told
(15:58):
that they have to police for those kids, and they're
facing forty nine million dollar fines if they don't find
them and get them off their platforms. So there's a
real incentive for the platforms to police this properly, and
that's what the government wants to do. They're saying it's
not about the parents having to police it, it's the platforms.
The responsibility is back on them.
Speaker 1 (16:17):
Well, we'll see how good their technology is with the
face detection stuff. I understand fake must our sales have
gone through the roofs, so well let's see whether or
not that's going to be enough to get round it.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
All.
Speaker 1 (16:28):
The coverage at the moment is fantastic. It will answer
every question. You've got seven News, nightly News, You've been
doing it all week, and there's more to come. Chief
reporter over there, Chris Reason, thanks.
Speaker 5 (16:36):
For the time, mate, Thanks guys, Cheers.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
Rob Bogat
