Speaker 1 (00:00):
On Canberras hit one or four point seven.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
It's Roden Gabby rat.
Speaker 1 (00:05):
If you have a work outlook email calendar, yeah, you
may not realize that your manager can see it. And
that's obviously just stand at issue just to see what
you're working on.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
I know that I did not know that, and not
too long ago you mentioned roder A meeting popped up
in our calendar and I was like, oh.
Speaker 4 (00:26):
Have they over all free?
Speaker 3 (00:28):
And you said, oh, they can all see our calendars.
And I go, oh, you mean like they can see
when we're free or busy, but not like the details.
You're like, no, no, they can see it all. What
and he goes, anyone in a rank above you can
see your entire calendar.
Speaker 5 (00:47):
Your direct manager and the GENI and above it.
Speaker 4 (00:49):
Yeah, And I was like, oh, I was not aware
of that.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
So I've gone back through my calendar just to check
what I've put in there that could potentially.
Speaker 4 (00:59):
Not have should have not been.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
So I, well, there's a few things like typical things
like I'm going to a meeting, but I'd put in
my calendar that I was going for a hair appointment
and things like that, so hopefully that didn't check on
those days, but then there was also a few other things.
So I'm currently doing IVF and for the last ten
months or eleven months ish, I've been doing a different
(01:24):
kind of fertility treatment where it's ovulation induction. So you
take some kind of medication, whether it's a tablet or
a needle, and it brings on your cycle so that
everything can be scheduled to the minute, and I get
a text from my doctor telling me what to do
(01:45):
and when to try to conceive. And so I'd get
these texts and they're very specific. You go to get
a blood test, they see what your bloods are doing.
You go for an ultrasound, they see what your follicles
are doing. And then they go, okay, you are going like,
you take a medication that brings on ovulation. You are
going to ovulate at this time on this day.
Speaker 5 (02:07):
This is science incredible.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
It's down to the minute, right, And so I would
put it put in my calendar when I would have to.
Speaker 4 (02:18):
Do what I needed to do to con see in
no uncertain it was pretty obvious.
Speaker 5 (02:27):
Actually it was.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
It was nothing but obvious, and I would put it
in there when when my doctor would text me, I'd
go cool, don't want to forget that three o'clock on
Sunday and then six o'clock and then potentially seven am
on the next morning, like let's go. And I'm just
hoping that the bosses were not looking at my calendar
for that information.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
I'm hoping because it sends a message you were very
well organized, you run a very tight ship.
Speaker 5 (02:55):
What you working on? Huh okay, So she is locked
that in.
Speaker 1 (02:58):
And by the way, and by they if one of
them ever called you in the middle of a time
that was clearly blocked out my calendar, guys exactly, I'm
calling about beat the Bomb next week.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
No, this is Roy Raps on camera four point seven.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
I'm very excited and you know, as a nation, we
couldn't be more proud. But it was shocking news yesterday
to see this pop up pop up on the greatest
middle distance swimmer humanity is ever known, Arian Titmas.
Speaker 5 (03:30):
This is her Instagram post.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
I am here to announce that I've made the decision
to retire from competitive swimming. A tough one, a really
tough one, but one that I'm really happy with. You know,
I love swimming. I've always loved swimming. It's been my
passion since I was a little girl. But I guess
(03:53):
I've taken this time away from the sport and realized
some things in my wife that have always been important
to me, just a little bit more important to me
now than sman. And that's okay, I.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
Aw, that's courageous even just to say that when you've
got the weight of a nation on your shoulders all
the time.
Speaker 5 (04:13):
But she spoke about it.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
You know, this was the dream from when she was
a little girl, and you the greatest dream in the
world I can't imagine was even what she achieved.
Speaker 5 (04:22):
It was a way beyond, wasn't it unbelievable?
Speaker 1 (04:25):
And so a bloke who was there at that very
first time jumping in the pool joins us. Now any
of the podcast listeners in Queensland know him as the
Channel seven News sports anchor Steve Titmus, we know him
as Arianne's old man, Steve Mate. Congratulations to you for
all the parents that run kids around for sport.
Speaker 5 (04:44):
You did all right.
Speaker 6 (04:47):
Look I think ow this morning Arianne said, look, Dad,
I'm going to have a sweep in and you can
go and do the radio. So you can go and
do the radio interviews and I've gone more, Thanks very much.
I've been getting up for years and taking you to
the pool and now I've still been reverse.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
It's very funny you say that, because when we found
out you were coming on to talk about Arian's retirement,
I was like, oh my god, I would never trust
my dad to speak on my behalf my time.
Speaker 6 (05:11):
I don't know what it was, and always says he Dad,
You're so embarrassing.
Speaker 5 (05:16):
That's more a common on Gabby's dad than you.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
However, it's an incredible day for Australia. What she was
able to bring us, bring you as a family, I
can't even begin to imagine. However, twenty four hours ago
we heard that she was joining a new reality show
where she's going to be swimming against sharks. So the
timing does seem oddly coincidental. Is there any connection?
Speaker 6 (05:41):
I look not. I think it's just coincidental. Those sort
of ducks just lined up in a row. Look, you
know when she said to us a few weeks back
that she said, look, I've been approached to go and
swim with sharks. We said, what you're do? You want
to become? Go from the terminator to the Torso Dan
(06:03):
just sort of start thinking about swimming with sharks and anyway,
she said, oh no, it's all controlled. Blah blah blah
blah blah. Look, she has this incredible fear of swimming
in the ocean, believe it or not. So if you're
on a Gold Coast beach and you're drowning, don't rely
on a full time Olympic champion and rescue.
Speaker 5 (06:21):
You would asume that I'd be in safe hands.
Speaker 6 (06:24):
No, no, So it's one of her great fears in
life is a sharks and swimming in the ocean. So
she wants to break that sea down. And anyway, she's
going off to the States in a few weeks to
go and do that.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
So is this a bad time to be retiring then,
because you need your swimming to be at absolute peak
in order to go handle the sharks.
Speaker 6 (06:48):
Oh look, the good thing is she's actually been still
keeping herself quite fit as well. So but she'll go
through the obviously the necessary, the things that she needs
to do. But oh what a you know, a writer
has been for us as a family. You know, we're
incredibly proud of what she achieved in the pool, but
I think even more so, we're just so incredibly proud
(07:10):
of the great human and the young lady that she's
grown up to be. And we're quite humbled and really
taken back by the incredible comments that people have made
in social media and in the newspapers, on radio, on
television she was announced yesterday. It's truly been quite extraordinary.
So look, a big thank you to the entire nation
(07:32):
of Australia for their wonderful support.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
You've touched on the pride that you feel as a family,
as a dad and with a little girl who jumps
in a pool down there in Lonnie and then literally
you're as a family. Your commitment to her work in
the pool is taking you up to brizzy these days
and around the world. When are you and her really
going to have a moment to reflect on this?
Speaker 6 (07:59):
Yeah, look, it's a great question. We've actually got a
family dinner on tomorrow night where we were going to
gather with the grandparents and the family and just have
a you know, a nice little chat about you know,
how the journey was in the past week for Robin,
me or Arnie's sister and I. It's been the past
(08:20):
couple of weeks when obviously we knew the announcement was coming.
You know, we've we've sat back and reflected on the
incredible times that we've had. Robin and I have light
in bed of a nighttime and said, hey, remember when
we were at NUSA when the Tokyo Olympics to roun
and we couldn't go because of COVID, and we gathered
(08:41):
all the families together and we were able to be
there together when Arnie won that first gold medal. And
then you know, we lived through when we went to
guang Zou for World Swimming Championships and the Buddha Pest,
and then to Paris for the for the last Olympics.
So it's been it's been quite a a couple of
weeks of reflection for us to come to terms, if
(09:03):
you like, the fact that Arnie was going to retire,
not that you know at the end of the day
from our point of view, though it was her decision entirely.
She came to us, and you know, we knew she
was taking twelve months off, but she came to us
over that time and sort of said a couple of
things about what she was thinking. And our job as
a parent, which has always been our role, is to
(09:23):
be a safe sounding board for her, and so we
basically just talked her through it, you know, the various
things about what will she miss if she when she
stopped swimming, what was great about it? What does she
want to do in her life moving forward? So all
those things. We were just being parents, not advisors, not coaches,
(09:44):
nothing like that, just purely and simply letting her go
through emotions and us as a sounding board so that
she can make that decision.
Speaker 5 (09:52):
Well done, mate, do you as a family and as
a nation?
Speaker 1 (09:55):
Look, you know we couldn't be more proud, But it
doesn't to even hold a candle, I'm sure to the
way you're feeling today. We really appreciate the time, love
to Arianne, yourself, the family, and we look forward to
seeing it back on the Telly next year Some against
the Sharks.
Speaker 5 (10:10):
Thanks for your time, appreciated in Brisbane, fantastic.
Speaker 7 (10:13):
This is Ron Gabby wrapped on camera four point seven.
Speaker 3 (10:18):
So there is a Christmas tree that's currently being sold
at Bunnings. It's a pre lit Christmas tree, which is
always a bonus because then you don't need to buy
the lights or untangle the string of lights to be
able to.
Speaker 4 (10:33):
Wrap around one billion percent, so that's great.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
It's also pink, so it's the Mirabella Pink Malibu pre
lit Christmas tree.
Speaker 4 (10:44):
It's only one hundred and thirty nine bucks, which is
pretty good.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
And it's like this beautiful, stunning Barbie pink pre lit
Christmas tree, and people are just going bananas online about it, saying, girls, run,
don't walk, get this tree now.
Speaker 4 (10:59):
I saw.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
I loved it. I sent it to my husband. He said,
absolutely not. So I think I found out this tip
last year that I think is a really great tip
if you don't want your children to ruin your Christmas
tree by decorating it terribly. Yes, what you do is
you have your Christmas tree in the main area, and
you have a mini tree in their bedroom that they decorate.
Speaker 5 (11:22):
So you're proposing a separate tree to get this pink
lit up tree across the line in your household.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
Yes, well, let me tell you I've thought about it
now for the full thirty seconds I've been aware of
this pink Christmas tree. And let me tell you, categorically
without an in fact producer, Chelsea, have you run this
past I know you're a fan of this tree. Have
you run this past your other half, Jared, will the
pink pre tree be entering your house?
Speaker 5 (11:44):
There? Indement?
Speaker 2 (11:45):
I'm actually more of a traditional Christmas loss, so I
love the.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
Green and red.
Speaker 5 (11:51):
Gabby. I need you to know you're not alone.
Speaker 7 (11:55):
Are you getting it?
Speaker 4 (11:57):
Are you gonna get up your kid's bedroom?
Speaker 5 (11:59):
Listen the fact that mentioned at seven twenty eight. They
may have heard this.
Speaker 4 (12:03):
They've already bought it. They're on their way to buddies
right now.
Speaker 5 (12:05):
I better like it because it's coming into our house.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
You want to go to the phones they produce a Chelsea.
I can see Joe from Carwell has called through. Joe,
is this pink prel tree entering your house?
Speaker 3 (12:16):
I already have one well done that is very organized
of you didn't like.
Speaker 7 (12:23):
I've already had one for years. So I just need
to let you know that years and years ago, when
my children were little, I liked my tree the way
it was meant to be. So I bought them each
a little tree. They had a pink one and a
silver one and a green one, and they could decorate
their own. And now that I have another little one
who's seven, she has a pink one. She decorates her self,
(12:44):
and mine stays beautiful in the way I want it.
I love that you have your own.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
That makes me so happy because people are like, oh,
you're gonna let the kids decorated.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
It's part of the fun of Christmas. No, my tree
will look good.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
I was waiting for that to be the moral of
the story at the end of Joe's story, and Joe go, no, no, no.
I've committed to it every child, and Joe it still
works today.
Speaker 7 (13:03):
Right, It's perfect, And I have to tell you it
stopped the fight to keep my tree safe and it
makes them feel special and now they love Christmas just
as much as me.
Speaker 5 (13:12):
Beautifully, Dad, I love it. Stay there, Joe. We're going
to get to Joe. One of those Hairhouse vouchers. Absolutely
one hundred bucks at Hairhouse for you.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
Joe.
Speaker 5 (13:19):
Stay there. Is Ron and Gabby wrapped on camera.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
Sit on four point seven here, I suggest it's an
even better morning, clear as a bell, eighteen degrees. Right now,
it's Friday and the greatest city in the world, and
it is go time for a w NBL season, the
likes of which I don't remember us looking forward to
as much as this year. It starts again tomorrow, and
I think the game has actually been moved to the
(13:44):
John Cain Arena down there in Melbourne, so that we
can give that a tendance recorder. Note, let's go to
Starr of the UC Caps, Jada Clark and Jada good
luck with the season tomorrow.
Speaker 8 (13:54):
By the way, Hi, thanks guys for having me.
Speaker 5 (13:57):
Do you know whether or not.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
I mean, you wouldn't be keeping an eye on ticket sales,
but the word is that you guys are going to
get the record tomorrow.
Speaker 8 (14:05):
Yes, I believe so. I've heard so far that there's
probably going to be around more than eight thousand, which
is crazy.
Speaker 7 (14:13):
Wow.
Speaker 8 (14:14):
Yeah, pumping the previous record, which is super cool.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
I know, when you're on the court, you're very focused
and the crowd kind of goes into a bit of
a blur.
Speaker 4 (14:23):
So do you notice when it's.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
A smaller crowd compared to an eight thousand crowd.
Speaker 8 (14:30):
I think the only time you really notice it is
like when your name gets called out, never really during
the game. But I think because there will be so
many people, the nerves will hit a little bit. Stepping
onto the court for the first time.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
You're being prepared by the best. Paul goris back with
the team. How settled. Does the group feel going into
this year and off the back of a couple of
seasons that I think most people would say we didn't
reach the full potential of the team.
Speaker 8 (15:00):
Yeah, No, we're feeling really good this year. God has
put some great pieces together and pre season has definitely
been intense. But we're looking really good and yeah, we're
definitely ready for Game one.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
You and producer Chelsea are the same age and you're
both from Perth, so produce a Chelsea. Let's just go
to the booth here for a second. Do you know,
Jada produce a Chelsea.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
And I wish I was twenty one.
Speaker 4 (15:22):
I'm actually twenty five, the same we wish we'll one. No,
I am a Perth girl too.
Speaker 1 (15:30):
We think about I mean we're the Bush capital, but
I mean Perth still, I feel like he is Australia's
biggest country town to million people.
Speaker 5 (15:38):
It's a long way from home.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
Though, but you've been here at the AIS, you've been
here for a couple of seasons.
Speaker 5 (15:43):
Does it feel like home?
Speaker 8 (15:44):
Yep, Yeah, I would definitely say it feels like home.
I mean, I've been here for so long, so very
familiar with it, lived here for quite a while, so yeah,
I would definitely consider it my second home for sure.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
How are you going with your injury, by the way,
because you had an ACL injury, which by the way,
is like the most common injury for female athletes.
Speaker 4 (16:04):
Which is crazy. How you going with that recovery? Back
to full strength?
Speaker 5 (16:08):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (16:08):
Back to full strength. It's been about a year and
a half since I did it now, so yeah, back
to full strength. It's feeling really good. I'm still obviously
working on little elements of this preseason is definitely quite intense,
so it's pushing me to my limits quite a bit,
but it's definitely holding in strong, which is nice.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
Will you use road trips to Perth as an opportunity trips? Yeah,
well you know what I mean, Like they called road trips,
but there are away games, right and so so you
don't have to pay for the flights like producer, Chelsea,
or will you actually go the.
Speaker 5 (16:40):
Extra flights at Christmas and stuff like that.
Speaker 8 (16:43):
Well, we're actually lucky enough to be playing Perth on
the twenty fourth of the twenty third, sorry of December,
so yeah, I get a free chrissy trip to Perth,
which is nice, Chelsea.
Speaker 4 (16:56):
It's so jealous, Chelsea.
Speaker 5 (16:58):
If you're better at basketball, thing's gonna work out.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
And so the other players will jump back on the
plane to you know, get back to their families for
Christmas obviously, and you just like do a extend the
stay over right.
Speaker 8 (17:10):
Yeah, So it'll only be a couple of days because
we actually have a game on the twenty third and
the twenty seventh. Whoa, it's quite a quick turnaround. But
I mean that's just the life of a WNBL player.
I guess it's a pretty tight schedule. So yeah, it's
it's just the sport.
Speaker 5 (17:27):
Well, living the dream.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
You know that as a city, we have never been
so high in basketball. The attention, the activity, the excitement
around the game is at fever pitch. Hence why and also,
by the way, all you know, not all the other sports.
Sorry cricket, we know you're there, but yeah, exactly, you're there.
Speaker 5 (17:45):
You're the stars of this time of year.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
So thank you for kicking the season off tomorrow. Good
luck with breaking that record live from two pm. It's
on nine now and the Disney Plus do your congratulations.
So ESPN, Disney Plus just incredible. You The coverage will
never be as extensive as it will be this season
taking on the south side Melbourne Flyers. Let's start with
a w in the wing column for the UC capitalist
(18:08):
Jadie Clark.
Speaker 5 (18:09):
Thanks for the time we'll chat to use the season
goes amazing.
Speaker 8 (18:12):
Thanks guys appreciate it.
