Speaker 1 (00:00):
Last Saturday night. This was a massive night in the city.
Across town we had the AFL in town, but all
eyes were on a must win game after it turned
into sudden death for the Brumbies taking on the Hurricanes
in the quarter final of Super Rugby, and then this happened.
Dicky's out take it up towards the twenty two that
(00:21):
were teaming Tom Right, Tom pays running over again. That
is genius that ball and the line from Tom Wright.
It's an easy stroll over the line, an easy stroll
over the line. It's god of the genius himself, Tom
Right in New Zealand. Was it an easy stroll over
(00:42):
the line? In the ends?
Speaker 2 (00:44):
I wouldn't say easy. I got the easier part of
scoring it before we did most of the hard work.
So I'll go buy a coffee.
Speaker 1 (00:51):
Explosive stuff mate. You're in New Zealand now, and depending
on the way to night's game between the Crusaders and
the Blues plays out all of a sudden the Grand
Final at go Io Stadium is on the line when
you take on the Chiefs tomorrow night, so we need
to know who to go for tonight. We want the
Blues to win.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Is that right, we would want the Blues to win
yet for sure if we want to be on the
flight home looking forward to having our home fans. But
it's one of those things out of our control, isn't it.
So we'll we'll have an eye on the game obviously,
but yeah, most of the preparation will be just for
tomorrow night's picture for us.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
What was it like before you ran on last Saturday
night at g I O because the Chiefs and the
Blues the game before. Were you keeping an eye on
that because that was going to tell you whether or
not there was a double chance or whether or not
it was sudden death the game you were about to play.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
Yeah, similar to what I said there, we were sort
of preparing as if as if the result might have
might have left us in a sudden death game. But
there was probably about just under five minutes before five
minutes remaining in that in that game between the chief
in the Blues, and then most of us had to
head out for warm up and it was sort of
in the balance at that point obviously, so we'd sort
(02:06):
of run out and there was a couple of big
screen interviews going on throughout warm up, and then that
was sort of what alerted the majority of us to
the fact that the Blues had beaten them. So and
then everyone sort of tighten their shorts up a bit
tighter and pull their socks up and said, right, well,
it's actually a sudden dept So, yeah, we did a
good job.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
You did a good job, and the crowd loved it,
and we'd love to obviously get together for a Grand final.
So one game at a time, I'm putting carts before horses.
You're in New Zealand. You're in one of the most
beautiful spots on planet Earth, and I can't imagine you're
taking the blinkers off. Is it complete focus or do
you get a minute to look around?
Speaker 2 (02:41):
No, not really, man. It's one of those things where,
because of it's only a couple of hours, time's own difference.
But you sort of by the time you get over
here and you sort of grab your bag and you know,
I say me to the team kit, and you get
to the hotel and you sort of just want to
sit down for half an hour and the sort of
the days sort of gone. So we had a good
training day yesterday, which is really good, and then guys
sort of got the afternoon to us the recovery center
(03:04):
and sort of just again put their feetback on the
floor and just sort of chill out. So last sort
of final preparations today and they get a little bit
of recovery and treatment and stuff before the game tomorrow evening.
So it's really exciting to get over here a day
earlier and make sure our preparations top shelf. So we're
looking forward to it.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Preparation for international games in all sorts of sports is
a fascinating thing. Of course. The cricketers are famous for
taking their families, you know, with them on too. I
assume it's different for footy players. Is there ever a
time that you know, wives, girlfriends, kids will come to
a game overseas?
Speaker 2 (03:40):
Yeah, more so the bigger ones. So there's been a
little bit of chatter around, you know, a group of
the partners and some kids coming over. Things go in
a certain direction for next week which is really exciting,
and in particular some of the domestic away games, so
like up Imbridgement or Dan in Melbourne, whether it's oble
Tom isn't too big and throw out the throw out.
(04:03):
The babies sleep Thatton too much. So those sort of ones,
those ones are not too bad, but some of the
bigger trips not so much, in particular when we sort
of travel to the northern hemispherience stuff.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
All right, well, we'll start talking about preparations for Grand
Finals next week. When you left the studio now about
seven days ago, I said, hey, I'm hoping we'll catch up,
you know, next week, to be talking about a semi
knowing that you know, we wanted you to win on
the last Saturday night, And you looked at me and said,
we'll be chatting next week. And so the mindset I
(04:35):
could see, and just a casual walking out of here,
you know, days before game time you were in the zone.
Then I imagine it's a pretty you set. You're always
you're always an easy going fellow. But as far as
just I have the tiger and having no other thought
other than you said to us the first time we
chatted at the start of the year, we're going we're
doing just for no other reason than to win a premiership.
(04:56):
That's the mindset, right, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
Absolutely, if you're sort of head, if you're heads anywhere else,
or you might set anywhere else, you're probably in it
for the wrong reason. So you're probably doing, you're probably
in the wrong team. So yeah, we're sort of glass
the mindset for all of us, not just me as
an individual. So yeah, we're really keen. Hey right, you
are right.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
We're all fight up. The Chiefs, the Brahms, Wai Kato.
It's the fight for a home ground final. Depending on tonight,
go the Blues this evening. Super Rugby Saturday Semifinal five
o five pm. We're gonna have an early start for
our Saturday evening footy. Good luck over there, mate, can't
wait to see you back here and we'll be talking
GFS then.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
Yeah, appreciate it well, chat again next week. Looking forward
to it.
