Speaker 1 (00:00):
They came bounding over.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
What's a procedure.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
This is Roden Gabby versus the.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
World producer Chelsea. I heard you say, oh my god,
this isn't a post office when recounting what happened trying
to pick up a parcel yesterday. It's a problem when
you go to get a package, and I did. I
can't even imagine where were you.

Speaker 4 (00:29):
I this is.

Speaker 5 (00:30):
I was a little bit worried when I got this
text message. Because I order packages and because I live
in an apartment block, they never can be delivered to
my home if I'm not there, so they will always
go to oz Post. And then, because all my parcels
usually come through oz Post, I thought that this one
was as well, But I ended up getting a text

(00:52):
message from Team Global Express. Do you guys know, not
that parcel company.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
They're like a scam. Team Global Express not a real.

Speaker 5 (01:01):
Thing, not a thing, it actually is because I see
their trucks driving around all the time. So yeah, well
in Perth, I did.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
I'm not too sure here.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
On this scam just got more elaborate. Put the stickers
on trucks, the whole thing. Good good, all right, so far, so.

Speaker 5 (01:16):
Good anyway, So I was waiting until because usually you
have to wait until four o'clock to pick up your
packages from the post office. So I was waiting for
the message to say it was ready.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
And then I get a.

Speaker 5 (01:27):
Message saying your parcel from Meshki because I ordered a
dress is a waiting collection from Service Hub Canberra grocery store.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
And I was like where.

Speaker 5 (01:40):
In Coombs?

Speaker 2 (01:41):
I was like where, don't tell me, is it? No,
there's one.

Speaker 5 (01:45):
In Coombs, Westcomb's or near Denman.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Oh yeah, why do I think Coombs is? Like near Banks?

Speaker 6 (01:53):
Mate?

Speaker 2 (01:55):
Sorry?

Speaker 3 (01:56):
Sorry Banks your own place and you are a bloody
mile Okay, so this sounds very eld Generico grocery store,
like you know, it's.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
It's the old yeah, old cold corner shop, year.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
Old corner shop. Actually in the garage, just go down
the side, you know, things through the gate behind someone's house.

Speaker 5 (02:19):
That's it reminded me of when Gabby was telling that
story about getting the Pokemon car.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
Garage.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
Everyone even there was like deals a deal climb through
the window.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
It never happened, by the way, Well.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
There's no proof to the contry nor so, so okay,
so you've gone to the mystery grocery store.

Speaker 5 (02:39):
So I rock up to this grocery store. There's hardly
any cars in the car park. Then I start sending
a video to my friends and I'm like, okay, I'm
about to go in and pick this package up from.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
What happens to me you last saw me.

Speaker 5 (02:52):
And then I walked in there and it was like
it wasn't a very nice grocery store.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Oh yeah, sure it was great.

Speaker 5 (02:59):
No, it wasn't.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
I'm going to go and check this out for myself.

Speaker 5 (03:03):
And I walked in there and I was sorry, you've
gone in there. I was like, surely my package my
dress is not in here, and then.

Speaker 7 (03:13):
Wearing it, it's for sale.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
It's on a coat hanger. If you don't pick it up,
we just sell it.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
No.

Speaker 5 (03:23):
So I walk in and I was like, just here
to pick up a package like I would when I
walk into the post.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
Even you sang that sounds suspicious.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
I'm here for the package.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
Yeah, to a grocery store in a garage at the
back of someone's house in suburban Banks. I'm here for
the package where this goes?

Speaker 2 (03:43):
And then he's like, well, do you have the pin?
I had to give a pin number that I.

Speaker 5 (03:49):
Got on a text message and he was like, and
what size would the package be? I was like, it's
a dress, so a square, like a medium square. He
was like, here it is and I was like thank
you and walked out.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
It was so weird.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
I want all package pickups to be shrouded in mystery.
It was excited.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
I would make it more exciting.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
It was exciting. The problem is that you send a
photo to Gabby of going this is my last known location.
You don't turn up to work, and Gabby's back down
in Banks looking for you, even though because you don't
know where was.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
It Roden Gabby versus the world?

Speaker 3 (04:27):
How amazing were these guys lives? And they join us
now Ella and Jesse Hooper today?

Speaker 4 (04:43):
Good hello?

Speaker 3 (04:44):
Is this you know when you?

Speaker 6 (04:46):
I mean you guys.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
I know Gabby you saw them play the vas up
in Towns years ago.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
Yeah, not that long ago.

Speaker 3 (04:51):
Do you love a gig like this that is perhaps
a little different to performing a traditional venue?

Speaker 8 (04:57):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (04:57):
Absolutely. I mean, look, we've done clip so I think
we've done some kind of Grand Prix thing. We've done
a few car racers in our time, so you know,
like we love it, but also haven't been a camberin
ag As. I was just saying before, like it's it's
one of those cities that, unfortunately for us, get skipped out.
So looking forward to coming back. It's been a while.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
We love a bit of room room where a sort
of high energy band and it actually is you know,
goes really well together, killing hard. It is a kind
of I don't know, you know, quite quite a sweaty, hot, messy,
fun live show. So we hope that that fits right
in at some of that.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
Oh, it's going to fit right in.

Speaker 7 (05:35):
So you guys have never been to some of that's before,
this will be your first time that.

Speaker 4 (05:39):
I think some of that virgins here. So I don't know.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
If someone that's in gentle go in the same center.

Speaker 4 (05:48):
Are you car guys, I would love a classic car
at some point. I haven't quite swung it with the
with the with the family yet, but I got to
say a family, man, I don't it's not. My car's
pretty boring at the moment.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
But Tony's gonna have one.

Speaker 4 (06:03):
Yeah, hang on a second, we didn't have a license.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
Everyone pause. We grew up with you and in my mind,
you're you know, you're both eaten In nineteen and so
when we hear family life and we we're older, so
you guys must be too, Do you stop and reflect
and go how different is going to play a gig
in twenty twenty five compared to the early nineties.

Speaker 4 (06:28):
Yeah, it's very different. We used to we used to
have to get driven there because we were so young.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
Yeah, it's wild. We never would have thought we have
a twenty five year, thirty year career that was not
on our teenage stocket to think, you know, great, we're
setting ourselves up for life with this crazy sci fi
rock and roll whatever it is. Killing Hardy is such
a kooky band at the best of times. But yeah,
it's been amazing to sort of come back in the
last few years and see how many people are still

(06:57):
into it and our touring has just been going off.
And I was just saying to Jesse, like, this is
probably my favorite era of even being in the band
is at the moment because because we're adults, because we
get to appreciate the thing. Look, I'm not trying to say,
you know, don't say the A word too much. We
are adults, but we act like teenagers. I the one
have really not grown up much at all. Hence being

(07:19):
late for the call hens, not having a license, not
having a car. I'm still living somewhat of the teenage dream,
but I hate to say it is in a forty
two year old body. So we really appreciate every gig
and we appreciate the fans maybe in a way that
we just couldn't as seventeen year olds.

Speaker 7 (07:36):
It's funny you say that because there's been a lot
of bands that have reformed just in the recent years,
where we spoke to Five the other day who have
gotten back together and they're coming back to Australia, which
is really cool, and they have had a similar sentiment
where they were like, you know, we can appreciate it
now it's not as much of a whirl when we're
not partying as much.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
We're not just taking it for granted, like.

Speaker 7 (07:55):
We're in it and we can appreciate it and we
can really enjoy it now.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
Yeah, it's suchft, you know, I think it would be.
There would be so many acts out there or pop
stars or rock bounds out there who don't get that
second bite, you know, so maybe they only got the whirlwind.
And I really thought that would be us because it
was a hell of a whirlwind. When we broke it
was it was really dizzying and it's honestly and on
hard to remember much. It's really hard to remember those

(08:23):
the years between two thousand and two thousand and five.
I'm like, yeah, I don't know, I did something, but
it was a blur. So having that opportunity to play
all those songs now and meet all those people who
had them as the soundtrack of their summers is just awesome.

Speaker 3 (08:37):
Well, this is just the coolest. I mean, it's a
wild story and we love that. We're going to be
part of the next chapter. Killing Harty, playing Summerinat's the
Friday night gig. This is gonna be so cool. It
was just fun having a chat today, but it's gonna
be even better to see you guys back in the Capitol.
Thanks for the time. Travel safe up here and we'll
see you when you land. Awesome.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
We want to see you guys front Rower.

Speaker 7 (09:02):
I want to see you get your license before you
get here. Ellis, you can do some burnouts.

Speaker 1 (09:06):
You know what it could happen. I've got a lesson
booked in next week.

Speaker 7 (09:12):
I don't know if it's to do burnouts, it's work
dimension that to the instructor Jesse.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
Jesse has always said it's maybe the best that I
don't get it.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
Time will tell. It's a famous gig. You guys can
have the best time. I love it all right, thank
you by so much. Told by Blae. We can all
learn something from a three year old today.

Speaker 7 (09:36):
We could because sometimes the world just needs a little
bit of light and some videos of resurface to.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
Provide that light.

Speaker 7 (09:44):
It's a couple of TikTok vits from a guy called
Connor Murphy and he was like a fitness influencer, but
his page didn't blow up until he started interviewing his
young daughter, who is about five or six at the time,
and she just had some great words of wisdom and
some insights into the world, to the point where they

(10:05):
started calling.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
Her the little Doctor.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
Are they Irish?

Speaker 2 (10:08):
No, I don't think so.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
Connor Murphy isn't Irish. Still there are Australian Connor Murphy's
I have a.

Speaker 7 (10:14):
Feeling as American, but you can figure it out from
the accent.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
Maybe I've mistaken.

Speaker 7 (10:20):
Yeah, you assume, you assume anyway. So there is a
very cute video that everyone's loving around self love. But
first of all, we need to look at this video
of his little daughter.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
Yes, and there's something that she really needs the.

Speaker 7 (10:37):
World to know not to be afraid of, Like fear
is not part of this process, and we really need
to talk about it.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
Advice.

Speaker 6 (10:45):
A lot of girls are afraid to admit that they
go poop. Isn't that silly? Oh yeah, because everybody poops, right, Yeah,
did you just go poop?

Speaker 8 (10:57):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (10:58):
See, yeah, that's not a big deal. Why do people think, Oh,
I definitely don't poop when they do? That was so funny,
it was right, It's just a silly thing.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
Yeah, she's so daffled. But the idea that people would
be scared of it.

Speaker 3 (11:18):
I had a friend who was in it.

Speaker 8 (11:21):
Don't have to be a plate whang, we'll poop.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
It's great advice, great advice.

Speaker 3 (11:26):
I had a friend who was in a sharehouse with
her and a guy, just a platonic relationship. She would
go to work, wouldn't matter if it was like on
the middle of a Saturday afternoon, you know, and work.
She would go to work if she needed to poop.
So if only this advice had to come out early.

Speaker 7 (11:43):
A little doctor TI giving us all the advice we
need and she's so cute and smart. And then there
was also this video that this is the one that's
gone the most viral of her talking about self love
because we all need to learn a little bit more
about how they love ourselves.

Speaker 3 (11:58):
You have to love it right.

Speaker 6 (12:00):
How do you feel loved.

Speaker 8 (12:01):
When someone hugged me?

Speaker 6 (12:03):
In when I'm not lonely, When you're not lonely and
someone hugs.

Speaker 8 (12:08):
You, and when they hug myself.

Speaker 6 (12:11):
You hug yourself. Do you think it's important to hug yourself?

Speaker 8 (12:15):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (12:16):
Why, I'm a doctor, okay, And because you're a doctor,
you know that hugging yourself is helpful.

Speaker 8 (12:26):
Yeah, but not helpful, but it makes me feel you aax.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
She is I said it before I say it again.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
Cute and smart. She is a doctor. I would take
all my advice from this kid. I have a.

Speaker 3 (12:41):
Fantastic doctor, but this little one is giving her a run.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
Well done, Rod Gabby versus the World quote.

Speaker 3 (12:50):
I got mad at my husband fore warning me of something.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
And this happened yesterday.

Speaker 7 (12:56):
I thought I was being very proactive, and I got
up from my nap and I put some clothes in
the wash.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
That's a lie. Put the clothes in the wash before
my nap.

Speaker 7 (13:05):
So when I got up out of my nap, I
went to hang them outside.

Speaker 2 (13:09):
Oh well done, yeah, and it was nice and.

Speaker 7 (13:10):
Say, it's such a beautiful day yesterday it was really gorgeous.
So it was about quarter to four and I go outside.
I'm like, well, there's still a couple hours of sunshine.
You never know, So I'm hanging them up. And then
I was also thinking, if not today, they'll dry tomorrow.
And then I was listening to the bird song because
it was stunning, and I heard this weird and I

(13:31):
thought it was this weird bird above me, and I'm
looking around trying to find this ugly sounding bird. When
I realized it was the outdoor camera talking to me
and it was my husband and he was and I
thought he was just being funny, because sometimes we do
that to each other. We shock each other by talking.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
Through the camera.

Speaker 3 (13:50):
What making.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
He was trying to say something, but.

Speaker 7 (13:54):
It was just distorted because it was I don't know,
maybe the rain's gotten into it.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
Whuldn't you try and say something and it sounds like
it's not going to be received.

Speaker 7 (14:06):
It sounded more like a like a really ugly or
sick bird.

Speaker 2 (14:12):
Yeah, yeah, pretty much. That was it.

Speaker 7 (14:17):
Anyway, once I realized what was happening, I was like,
I can't understand you. Turns out he was yelling at
me through the camera. He was at work, so people
would have been looking at him like he was a
little crazy and he's yelling at me through the camera
and that's why it was a bit distorted. And I'm like, oh, no,
what you're saying, mate, And so I just kept doing
what I was doing, hanging up the clothes. And then

(14:39):
about two minutes later he comes back and he's like,
did you get the message? And I understood that one.
I'm like, oh, I had my phone on me while
I'm outside hanging the washing up. I haven't seen the message.
So I kept doing what I was doing. I'm like,
give back you in a minute, like go wait. So
then I go inside and I get the message and
the message is it's going to rain tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
Because I'm hanging close up and I'm like.

Speaker 7 (15:04):
Damn it, you could have told me that ten minutes
ago before I've hung all the close up.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
Now I need to call your husband on days that
I know something.

Speaker 1 (15:12):
Like this is.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
Because you do.

Speaker 3 (15:15):
Because we were leaving to go and visit the team
at Cambra Martial Arts there yesterday, and as I was
getting into the car, you were getting into your car.
You didn't want to come in the same car as
me yesterday, So.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
That was the sign. Well it was no, that was
nothing to do with you.

Speaker 3 (15:30):
Whatever.

Speaker 2 (15:31):
I wanted to go straight home.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
Whatever makes I'm fine. And I just said to you,
in the name of being helpful, have you had something
to eat? And you nearly leapt across the bottom of
the car, like what do you mean by that? And
I just sent you should eat something.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
You got the car and sped off.

Speaker 3 (15:52):
By the way, we shot footage at Cambra Martial Arts
yesterday and when you put that up at Roden Gabby
on Instagram next week, if you want to see me
having my ask kick for an hour. It just Gabby
beating me up, that's all. It was never meant to
beat but that's what it is, and it was it.

Speaker 7 (16:06):
Wasn't the day for it was it like you actually
were so fearful of me.

Speaker 3 (16:10):
The video you will see the fear in my eyes
as Gabby goes no, no, I want to hold you
really tightly.

Speaker 2 (16:15):
When I go to choke you out, and

Speaker 3 (16:16):
I'm like, I do not trust that at all.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
