Speaker 1 (00:00):
She's so excited about the ice hockey activity in the Capitol.
We've always loved it, but have been I suppose, restrained
by the numbers that we can actually get into the
philip Ice skating Arena. And now this the AIS has
been renamed the Brave Grave, which is bad news for

(00:22):
our opponents. We're flying, we're winning, we're packing it out,
we're setting attendance records, and now we have the Brave
versus America and this is huge, and I wonder how
one of our brave representatives from Canada feels about this.
Welcome Alex Tetrotz.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
You going? Now?

Speaker 1 (00:44):
That is a pretty ossy accent.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
For a very French name, for a bloke from.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
Montreal, Canada. How did this happen? You haven't. You haven't
come out here and adopted the accent that quickly.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Happening, No, no wash away, pretty quickly. So my dad's
from Montreal and my mum's from Canberra, so I was
born over there and moved here at a fairly young age.
So a true blue Aussie as well.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
So did you pick up an ice hockey stick that
I would call it? What would you call it?

Speaker 2 (01:14):
A nice hockey stick? Is very good.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
Great, because when I go over to Saint Louis, my
relos laugh that I caught ice hockey because it's just hockey.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
It's right.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
Yeah, So I get everything wrong about it, but I
love it. Were you on the ice as a little
bloke in Canada.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
Yeah, absolutely, So we used to have just in the
front yard and had an ice drink as well. A
dad would pack it up with some snows and hose
it down't just chuck some skates on. So I probably
would have started skating when I was about to. I just,
you know, just chuck you out there and keep skating
until you get tired and then you're done. Wow. But
actually didn't start playing organized hockey until I came to Canberra.

(01:54):
So I played two years as a ford So I
started at ten, So I played two years forward.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
Because you're a goaltender, and a goaltender in ice hockey
means goaling.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
I thought goalkeeper, but you know that's soccer, I guess,
so goaltender is where we're at.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
Well, goaltending in basketball's bat That's right, isn't it.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
So goaltender goalie tendy usually at tendy, yes, usually.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
I whanted to talk to you about being that position,
because my experience watching the Mighty Ducks growing up, where
they've all padded out and they're just getting pucks smashed
at them freaked me out to be in that kind
of position. Does it make you nervous?

Speaker 2 (02:35):
Honestly, it makes me more nervous thinking about letting pucks
like the pressure than actually getting hit in the head.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
That's the right mindset.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
Yeah, otherwise that's a good point. But also I needed
to keep my teeth. So if I've got all the
padding and.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
All the gear, oh, you wear a whole mask. Absolutely,
it's very intimidating that mask.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
I'd like to think so.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Yet, Yeah, because I see some of the the ice
hockey goal Yes, they have Also it's like it's like
a war mask. They'll have all sorts of custom stuff
done with the mask.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
Yeah. So I got mine done. It got custom made
in Canada, and he got sent through to Finland and
then he got accustomed painted by by painters over there
through over here. So worked with the artists for for
a few weeks and came up with a pretty cool design.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
Which scary movie villain uses a goalie mask.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
Union has that done any damage to the goalies that
that have had that that.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
They have the Friday the thirteenth mask. Suppose you want
to keep the goals out. And also I can't imagine
how much you spend on one of these, but you
don't need your mask getting smashed into with the park
and having damage done. Only we would be it would
be strong enough. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Uh. Now, you were born over there, raised here. But
you speak fluent French.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
I do, yes, So when you speak.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
French, do you speak with a French accent or an
Aussi accent.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
Oh that's a good question.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
Would you mind speaking some French to Gabby?

Speaker 2 (04:11):
Maybe it's a fair check.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
I'm gonna let you know a secret. Gabby just loves
the accent, and so so you.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
I really like the Canadian accent, to be honest.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
I held back.

Speaker 3 (04:36):
Thanks, I appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
But you your husband's the perfect man, minus the Canadian
accent he had that.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
I spent a lot of time in Canada when I
was sixteen, and I've just I've got a few I
can't help it. So how are you You're obviously going
for Canada when Canada and America are going up against
each other in one and a half weeks.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
Time, I think I have a choice.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
You don't have a choice. But when it comes to
this game this weekend, the Braver going up against America.
But there's been a couple of trades and one of
your friends, Matt, who will be on the show with
us again on Friday, Matt Clark, friend of the show,
on the show, he's been drafted over to the US.
How's that going with Team Morale?

Speaker 2 (05:16):
Oh? Look, I think as soon as we've found out,
we just kind of kept quiet, stopped talking to him
until that's over, you know, and then one's clos strategy. Yeah, no,
not at all.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
You're representing the capital in the nation for crying out that.
I mean, the stakes don't get any high. Absolutely, congratulations
on really a fantastic life story, a great canvas story,
and we're so privileged now to be able to get
thousands more of us in to see this. Feels good
out there on the ice with just that incredible atmosphere.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
Yeah. Absolutely. Look, we've been packing out the Phillip Bicketing
Center for for years and the experience of playing at
the aas Is is incredible. You know, I never thought
that I'd be able to step foot in camera play
the sport that I love in front of three thousand people, friends, family,

(06:07):
and particularly because we're really hot at the moment and
we're winning. There's this energy in the building and looks
it's a privilege and I just can't. I just really
hope we can continue to do this and keep growing
the game in camera because I see so many new
people come through and after the first game that they're

(06:28):
just hooked so hot A.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
Stick it in town. Yeah, and I know you guys
are the one game at a time, but I'm telling
you they're here to win the championship. This is this
is a fantastic season if you can get it to
get one. Get along. Congratulations, Thank you so much for
the time, and good luck tailing up the Yanks.
