Speaker 1 (00:01):
Brett and Belinda Beasley have been on a mission to
keep Ozzie kids safe ever since they lost their seventeen
year old son Jack in a stabbing attack on the
Gold Coast, and now they're taking their crusade overseas. This Sunday,
Brett is flying to the UK to present Jack's Law,
which has already seen nearly two thousand weapons sees in
(00:22):
Queensland alone. Brett joins us now alongside the two Queensland
Police officers going with him, Acting Assistant Commissioner Rhese Wildman
and Senior Sergeant Brad Rix. Good morning to you all.
Brett first to you, this is incredible. How did this
come about?
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Good Yeah, good morning, mat Look, it's ha's been a
pretty tough few months to get this booking, but we
managed to get it through our graphic designer actually, who
had some contacts over then we sent off an email
and laying behind. Within a few days we've got a response. Say,
we're super excited. The UK cop just want to talk us,
(01:01):
talk all about Jack's Law and hopefully we can get
these little ones in the hands of the UK Police
while were there.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
It's an amazing story because your graphic designer. Did he
go to school with the guy who's now the Speaker
of the House and he hadn't talked to him for
fifty years and he just went, hey, mate.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
That's exactly right, that's exactly right now. Yes he was.
He's a good friend of his back in the day
fifty odd years ago. And he says, I'll reach out
and just send an email and see Sir Lindsay answers
me and then as I said, Laan and behold he did,
and they're super keen to talk to us about jack slaw.
So it was a roundabout way to get there, but
(01:39):
we got there and we're super excited to go.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
Do you think you could get him onto contacting Justina
Alan from Victoria? I knew that was coming.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Yeah, I think I hope. So, I mean, it seems
easier to get a meeting with the UK, doesn't it
then to get a meeting with her but Fortnernatt, that's
for sure.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
Okay, Reese, who are you meeting with and what are
you hoping to achieve?
Speaker 3 (02:08):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (02:08):
Net, Look, whilst we're in the UK, we're taking opportunity
to catch up with the Metropolitan Police, the met and
also the Home Office which is their policy arm of government.
We're also meeting other victims of crime that have had
a similar experience through Breton Blenda and traveled a similar
journey of tragedy. And in the background we're also catching
up with some researchers that are involved in the UK
(02:30):
College of Policing. So we're sort of making the most
of the opportunity to share our knowledge. And I don't
think the community are fully aware of how closely policing
agencies share information, skills and also learnings as we travel around,
and this is a very very important opportunity for us
to share and also we're going to get some learnings
from their experience with the UK crime issues over there.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
Yeah, it's an amazing shot, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
Brad.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
Do you think you've got a strong hope of getting
Jack's Law into the UK?
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Well, I guess so. I think that's a decision for
their policymakers and their parliament over there. But we're happy
to go over and share our experience from the Wanting
Troll back in twenty one to where we are now.
And I guess if we tell them our story, give
them an understanding of what we've been through and the
partnership we've got with the Jack Beasley Foundation, it's something
that they can certainly consider to apply in their country
(03:24):
over there.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
Yeah, okay, look, Brett, Resent, Brad, thank you very much
for joining us this morning. Keep in touch and let
us know how the trip goes.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
We all do. Thanks, thank you, good luck,
