cheese platter loaded with Elena's Bakehouse and Ritz Crackers, who
we've partnered with for this segment.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
This morning, it's a.

Speaker 3 (00:17):
Christmas colab, isn't it, with a range of delicious flavor combinations.
Now it's the time to stuck up and your favorite snacks,
your favorite.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
Bickies, and elevate your charcuterie board with some festive flavors.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
I mean, you know it's fancy when you're calling it,
an't it?

Speaker 4 (00:31):
You've ten years ago when we couldn't pronounced?

Speaker 1 (00:33):
I mean, what's to pre sure we're still? Maybe? Except
for you?

Speaker 5 (00:37):
Company is here? Of course, I'm taking to what you prepare.
This looks beautiful, look and it's there's no cooking in this.
I think I don't know about you, guys. Christmas is
crept up.

Speaker 4 (00:47):
Christmas is good.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Every time we say it's two sleep so way, it's
almost a.

Speaker 4 (00:50):
Shock, it is it is.

Speaker 5 (00:51):
And look, if you're whether you're cooking every year or
you're hosting for the first time, these are very simple recipes.
So we're going to dress up some of the Alina crackers.
So these are they come already loaded with toasted seeds,
fruits and nuts, so I'm dressing them up. But even
if you just wanted to put three really nice cheeses

(01:12):
on a board with the crackers, you don't need grapes
and quince paste and all of that. So the first one,
I'm using the fig and black olive flavor nice and
we're going along with that theme.

Speaker 4 (01:22):
So I've got some mild soft blue cheese.

Speaker 5 (01:24):
If you don't like blue cheese, you could use some Yep,
fresh figs are in season at the minute.

Speaker 4 (01:30):
And look they look fancy.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Look very fancy, isn't it.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
But if you've never cooked, anyone can do this. Anybody.

Speaker 5 (01:37):
A little bit of time is nice, fresh time, and
then a little bit of honey and you can.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
Kind of bring this to someone's house and then get
out of doing anything else.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
It just looks so nice.

Speaker 5 (01:47):
And we've done a part here and then honey and cheese,
Like honestly, people are gonna think she knows he knows.

Speaker 4 (01:56):
What they're doing, right, And it's simple.

Speaker 5 (01:58):
So that's the first one, and the best thing is
once you've done this, you're off the hook for the
rest of the day, so you can just chill out.
Our second one, we're using the data and apricn Bree
creamy bree cheese, classic Italian.

Speaker 4 (02:17):
It was a little bit.

Speaker 5 (02:18):
It's the time for indulging, going with classic Italian combo.
Here salty prestudo and sweet peaches. Again, these are what's
in season. We know these flavors work well because you
know you can have peaches and prostudo and salads, a
little bit of basil, a crack of pepper. Again, it's
all about faking it till you make it. It looks fancy, incredible, bougie.

(02:43):
You do a platter of them.

Speaker 4 (02:45):
I think a lot of people get stressed at Christmas,
even me, a cook aol.

Speaker 5 (02:47):
Year, and it's it's easy to get overwhelmed with it.

Speaker 4 (02:51):
These are easy and simple.

Speaker 3 (02:53):
We're talking earlier about avoiding family flights, fights.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
I mean, having a whole.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
One of those in your mouth is a really good
way to.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
Just sort of shut anyone up.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
All can't tell you what's through that when you feel
at tension coming on, just black one.

Speaker 5 (03:03):
And people can't tell you what they really think if
they've got a mouthful of cracker by the fig.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
Yeah, the third one, rits, the humble rits.

Speaker 5 (03:16):
Pantry staple, beautiful like buttery texture. There, you're all round
a kind of cracker, David. You put it on the rits,
You put it on the rips.

Speaker 4 (03:24):
Yeah, they can.

Speaker 5 (03:25):
They can be as simple or as fancy as you like.
So what we got there in here is a mixture
of Philly cream, cheese, smoke, salmon, chives and lemon. You
can make this tonight, you can make it tomorrow morning.
You can make it the day before. Did you chop
that or wiz?

Speaker 1 (03:39):
That's in something I've.

Speaker 4 (03:40):
Just chopped up.

Speaker 5 (03:42):
Chop, chop up the salmon and the cream cheese wants
us out of the fridge for ten minutes.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
It will go quite soft, especially here, So your sandwich it.

Speaker 5 (03:50):
We're making little sandwiches right And then I was thinking
about this out the back when I was making these.
I know so many people that are hosting for the
first time this year. If you're a bricklayeries, any bricki
is out there like the old trowel action, Yes.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
You could get a job as a brickie if this
doesn't work out. There in court.

Speaker 4 (04:10):
You never know if any brickies.

Speaker 5 (04:12):
And then from there, I've got two things that you
can dress up the outside with some chopped deal like
all of these flavors work.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Deal like mince tarts divides.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
People perfect combination.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
You're not into the deal.

Speaker 5 (04:26):
I've got some done here with This is everyday bag
or seasoning.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
It's a little bit American, but you.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
Can buy a garlic in it as well. Is it
a onion.

Speaker 5 (04:35):
Powder, poppy seeds, black and white sesame seeds, and some
sea salt and it's great sprinkled on tarts and things.
But you can do those ones as well. Again, Eddie,
they're one big mouthful.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
I'd be sad. I pipol eight those they're so pretty,
so nice.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
I want to ask you about this cheese board as well,
and I reckon I could have all of those ingredients
in my fridge. I could own this board. I could
have those beautiful knives there and I wouldn't be able
to created.

Speaker 4 (04:59):
David, you've got this.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
You have got.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
This beautiful cheese board like that.

Speaker 4 (05:03):
I think this time you wreaths anything in a wreath.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Look what you've done. That's that's what you've done.

Speaker 5 (05:09):
With it is a sprig of rosemary is going to
make you look like you know.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
You're going to look like Dona Hay.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
With a few sprigs, can look like Courtney Rolston.

Speaker 4 (05:21):
This is literally so again.

Speaker 5 (05:23):
The Elena's crackers and Ritz are on here, some of
your favorite cheeses. Fill it in with grapes and your
crackers and just put it.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Is that the key having a bit of filler.

Speaker 4 (05:32):
It's all about the filler.

Speaker 5 (05:33):
Yeah, it's all about the all about the all filler,
full thriller.

Speaker 4 (05:39):
And no substance. Please get into it.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
While you try that.

Speaker 3 (05:45):

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
