Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Super Serious Sports Show with Chris Coleman.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
And Adam Jansen. Aj I did promise you guests plural
as we lead up to the Grand Finals this weekend.
Would you like to take a guess where we're going
to talk about the National Rugby League Festival of Football
this weekend?

Speaker 1 (00:17):
Did you get Vossi again?

Speaker 2 (00:18):
I got Vossi again, BOSSI, welcome back to the Super
Serious Sports Show.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
I've been on hold for a year. Put them back
on hold after last thoughts.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
If we won't for you to pick up again, at
least the chows that they're paying the bills here. How
excited are you about this year's Grand Final Penrith versus Brisbane?

Speaker 3 (00:32):
Yeah, that very No, it looks as a neutral observe
always very happy when and let's say there's a clear
cut top two that make the Grand Final, and honestly,
this year there's a clear cut top two. I don't
think anyone, you know, Melbourne fans could be happy that
they made the top four, but they didn't deserve to
play in a Grand Final this year. Warriors have had
a great year. Have they gone better than Brisbane or Penrith? No,

(00:54):
they haven't And I don't think anyone else, while they've
had their days, could say they are worth more so
than the two that we have. So I think we've
got the perfect scenario of combatants this weekend that finished
level on points through regular season. I have won there,
you know, one straight through, got the week off after
week one, emphatic winners of preliminary finals, and now they

(01:17):
go head to head. That's the perfect ending to the
NRL season for mine.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
Yeah. I can't remember another Grand Final in recent history
where two teams were in such red hot form heading
into the big game and with star players all over
the paddick, because you've got Reese Walsh and Adam Reynolds
and Ezra Maam among others for the Broncos. For the Panthers,
you've got Nathan Cleary, Dylan Edwards, Jerome Lewy who's you

(01:41):
have you got a tip for? Maybe the Clive Churchill medalist.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
Yeah, well, you're right about like the positions, Like it's
really is a case of players cancel others out, isn't it.
You know when you talk about the greatness of Reese Walsh,
but you know you'll line up against the defending Clive
church your medal winner in Dylan Edwards and then Nathan
Cleary with Adam Reynolds, and right across the board really
with the two teams, and it's up front where I
have my Clik Churchill medal with her. So I guess

(02:06):
I'm revealing who I'm tipping, but I am saying that
Paying Half will play probably, you know, fifty five to
sixty minutes of the Grand Final. I think he can
be one of the most dominant players on the field.
You know, he's going to return big numbers. You know,
a lot of hit ups, a lot of meters, made
a lot of post contact meters, potential for offloads. I'm
thinking Paid Half we might have a front rower get
a Clik Churtill medal this year.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
Now, the last time we had you on the show, Voss,
he was just after Alex Twell scored his first try.
We then spoke to you about Patty Carrigan, who's playing
in the Grand Final, and you told us that you
couldn't foresee any way words that effect anyway anyway that
Patty Carrigan was gonna I'm paraphrasing here, could score a try.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
He just shoot the guests down AJ. That'll always go well,
that'll really work well.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
We can either hang up we and answer this question.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
But he consecutive week, he got.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
A consecutive weeks.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
Can Paddy Carrigan maybe win And I think I called
both games called his first try as well gets won
the following week. Look, he's one of the reasons I
think Brisbane will win two Pat Carrigan besides his incredible
tri scoring ability, so those two tries he scored this year,
just his work rate. So there again, you know, Penrith
have got a Aea middle forward Bronco's candidate with Pat Carrigan.

(03:16):
Penrith have Grand Final winning front rowers James Fisher, Harris
Moses Leona. Brisbane have Payne Haas and Tom Fleegler. It's
just fantastic matchups and these are superstar quality players in
our competition. Carrigan has certainly become that, certainly for Queensland
and has played for Australia as well at the World Cup.
So yeah, another reason while I think Brisbane can win
the competition.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
Yeah, Paddick Carrigan, the tri scoring specialist.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
The Grand Final in the NRL it's very different from
the Grand Final in the AFL. The AFL it's all
about the one game on the day Grand Final Day
at ACU Stadium, you've got the big game in the evening,
but prior to that we've got the nrl W Grand
Final and before that you've got the new South Wales
Cup versus the Queensland Cup. In what I think has
been a fantastic initiative over the year is how do

(04:01):
you think the day stacks up?

Speaker 3 (04:03):
Yeah, I agree with you. I think on my own
breakfast show in Sydney, i had Jared Waiteley on, who's
one of you know, the leading authorities in AFL, and
he rattled off all the entertainment they've had at their
Grand Final over the years, from Robbie Williams and the Killers,
and this year they've got kissed. They've probably got us
covered the AFL, I'll say quietly, they've probably got us
covered with a performance with the acts they've had. But

(04:26):
as for the actual Grand Final day itself, look, they're
both great occasions, but the fact that you do get
that whole afternoon night, the barbecue sort of gets up
and going. You know, I'm with you. I love the
idea of the National Championship Final and this year it's
South Sydney taking on the Brisbane Tigers, you know, that's
great and n RALW with an extended competition this year.

(04:47):
Before I thought I didn't know whether they should play
the curtain Rays have given their season was so short,
but now they've played, you know, with ten teams, they're
playing a decent length of season into two weeks of
finals and then Grand Final. So I think makes for
a great day, an absolutely great day, big television viewers
and radio listenership. It's beamed all around the world these days,

(05:09):
you know, and then it finishes with the Grand Final
at night. So no, it's it's like a Christmas morning
really for rugby league fans. It's Christmas Day. Even if
your team isn't in the Grand Final, you do, You've
got to enjoy it. It's high entertainment.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
Well here on Mix and I six one three, we've
called every Raiders NRLW game this season, or we called
every Raiders in it and we really got into it.
We've got to see the Gold Coast Titans Ladyside up
close in that last round. And I tell you what
the two men's prelim finals were. Both they will both
smash up. They were blowouts. But the girls in their

(05:41):
prelim finals. They especially the first game between the between
the Knights and the Broncos that really went down to
the wire. So I guess the other thing is with
an added Grand Final, if one game is a blocked
we might get it. We might get a tight one.
I think it'll be tight in both games.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
Though. Look, I've had I've called, I've done Grand final
days were actually great. Games of the tension have been
better than first grade. You know it has happened. It's
like the full buffet, isn't it. You know you've got
the entree, main course, dessert, the whole the whole box,
and dice sorrow in a bit of entertainment. Look, I
wasn't you know? I was. I underwhelmed, overwhelmed. I was
probably a little underwhelmed with the Grand Final entertainment because

(06:18):
you're thinking a big name. But look, I think the
Tina turn, I think it'll be a hell of a
single long eighty thousand fans singing simply the best. There's
going to be a pretty joyous moment in memory of
the great lady who passed away during the year and
as you know, played a big part in the promotion
of rugby league. So yeah, I don't think they haven't blundered.
They haven't done anything wrong for not getting a big
act this year the NRLs. I still think that'll be good. No,

(06:42):
I think it's the day to be positive. You know,
NRLW Grand Final Knights will probably will deserve to start favorites.
But the Titan showed us last week what they can
do and as far as the National Championship Final goes, well,
this is a situation where the Tigers get that week off.
You know, they're freshened up after their win over Burley
and come up against the match hardened South Sydney sites.

(07:04):
I've probably got the favorite, the rabbit o' slight favorites,
but again, good entertainment to have Newcastle, to have the Titans,
to have South Sydney, to have the Brisbane Tigers to Penrith,
to have Brisbane all represented on the one Grand final
days good.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
You mentioned before we got an air with you that
you're off to the daly Ms tonight. We think sammim
At Taufa from the Raiders, we think she's a red
hot chance to win the women's daly M's who's your
tip and the men's one? Before you get there tonight, VOSSI, well.

Speaker 3 (07:33):
Where's my tip? Well, I suppose, I suppose when you
sit down, I'm going to call it this way. Sean
Johnson is getting to lead at some stage, and probably
lead for many rounds. But I would expect Caylen Ponger
to be coming home like a steam train because in
their ten match winning streak, and of course the voting
ends at round twenty seven, so not all ten, but

(07:55):
in all those victories, Kaylen pong are and he might
have picked up seven Man of the Match awards like
he would have picked up points in every single win
news a Newcastle had. So he is going to be
coming home like a steam train. Did he pull enough
points earlier in the year, Well we're going to find
out tonight. But yeah, look for a late charge from
Kaylen Ponger.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
And on Grand Final Day, what are you most looking
forward to? That we talked about, how there's the whole day,
how there's the entertainment. I have a sneaking suspicion that
during that Tina Turner tribute from the teen of the
musical cast that we might see a few old timers
brought out from the nineteen eighties and the early nineteen
nineties to really make it a thing. But what are

(08:36):
you most looking forward to about the day?

Speaker 3 (08:38):
Oh? No, I think you know, run on to see. Look.
You know what I'd love and this is people say, oh,
you're biased towards like No, I t We're unbiased. I
want every game to go to the last five ten
minutes and not know the winner. So I would love
that to be the case with this Grand Final and
that really then becomes a call to arms for the
likes of a Reswolsher and Nathan Cleary to come up

(09:00):
with a big player to win the game extra time.
Wouldn't mind that either coaches my thing differently, But you know,
I just think I would love this to be close
and not know that why they're going into the last
five le ten. I think it's got the potential to
do that. You know, I can't. I can't see unless
Brisbane had massive stage fright that they don't. You know,
they don't take it to Penrith. I don't think they're

(09:21):
in any way fearing Penrith, but they do respect the
record and what Penrith have achieved. They have been there,
done that and that has to put them in a
pretty good place preparing for the game, whereas Brisbane go
a little bit of an unknown. You know, they don't
know how they're going to react to the last fifteen
minutes of a Grand Final eighteen all until I've actually
experienced it, so you know we might learn that on

(09:42):
Sunday night.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
Well, BOSSI, I've got a feeling it's going to come
down to a field goal shootout, and maybe one of
those field goal attempts might come off the post and
Reese Walsh might come through and scoop it up for
a try. But I think it's going to go down
to the wire.

Speaker 3 (09:54):
Yeah. Ah, that would be fantastic. And yeah, haven't they
got two great field goal exponents If it does happen,
it does happen that way, to have Adam Reynolds and
Nathan Cleary stepping up to the plate to kick a
pressure field goal, that would be something. Yeah. Now, I'm
looking forward to the potential. This is why I'm looking
forward to most, the potential of a Grand Final classic
and a close finish, and I'm tipping Brisbane. I'll let you.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
Get your plug in now. Verssi, what's your media commitments
and coverage plan for the day?

Speaker 3 (10:22):
No, just all all functions on Grand Final.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
Oh you're laughing, mate. None of us have to sit
down and do all the stat sheets beforehand and everything else.

Speaker 3 (10:29):
Just go and enjoy it a bit, all the press
of that sort of stuff. But yeah, it's just the
worst day for me and taking the Grand Final. But yeah,
that's what it's like. That's what it's like, mate.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
Enjoy, Enjoy. We'll catch up with you on Fox Sports
or if we're ever up in Sydney on SE and
Breakfast Cool.

Speaker 3 (10:45):
Have a good one. Balance thanks by Se
