Speaker 3 (00:40):
Yes, So Sophie's actually done two episodes of this with
us before Grace, this is your debut on our on
our radio. Yeah, pressures on.
Speaker 5 (00:53):
Off the bench.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
So Sophie born in Tasmania, lived in Queensland at one point,
is that.
Speaker 6 (01:00):
I was actually born in Queensland. A lot of people
it's wrong, Yeah, but that's all right. So then morning
in Queensland.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Grew up in Tasmania. My whole family's from Tazzy.
Speaker 6 (01:09):
Dad was just working up in Queensland at the time,
so makes me at Queensland up.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
There you go. So if the Internet is telling me
that Grace born in Goldban, Yes, born in goldbur Yes.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
G town.
Speaker 5 (01:21):
I love Cafe Roses.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
We're basically related.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
Who's the most well known Golblannite?
Speaker 1 (01:27):
Oh, Grace even Yeah Carney number three, Jared Croker, God, yeah,
Jared Croaker.
Speaker 5 (01:35):
Yeah, he's a Golden Boy. It's a bit agreeing. There's
just a great town. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
I like Golden I like driving. It's nice roses cafes there.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
Yes, thank you, Carol Killers. If we don't give reach out.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
Carol our number one listener, number one fan, number one
fan of rais on Mix now, Grace, you missed the
State of Origin series, SOPHI played. How's the injury going? Could?
Speaker 5 (01:57):
I did my first I guess bit of contact on
Wednesday with us the Flag Boys, But yeah, I was
out with injury. I had a bit of a mix
with injuries this season so far, like my tooth, broke
my wrist, but now all sales ahead for hopefully Game one,
which is exciting.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
How did you break your wrist?
Speaker 5 (02:16):
At Origin training? We had like a six week built
up to Origin one? And yeah, Unfortunately I didn't even
know I'd broken it until a couple of weeks later, so.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
I did some miimeer do it? Did you tackle too hard?
Speaker 5 (02:29):
I'm not going to stay.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
Now, Sophie. You were obviously you're part of the State
of Origin series. Queensland lost this year one game three
was what was your State of Origin experience like this year?
Speaker 6 (02:42):
Probably obviously played it for the past couple of years,
and it was definitely the best experience I've had in
the space so far. Obviously, yes, we did lose, but
I think getting that win on that third game made
it feel like we won New South Wales.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (02:58):
Just obviously, I guess ruined them a three game winning
streak that they thought they were going to get. It
just showed that we could get the win over them.
So we did ourselves proud. And obviously that group being
somewhat very much the same each year, we're building some
pretty strong connections.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
So I absolutely loved it.
Speaker 4 (03:16):
Just got to ask Grace singing back, what do you
mean you didn't notice that you'd broken.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
Your arm or your eath.
Speaker 5 (03:22):
I thought it was just brained Okay, yeah, tell them
that you were in the gym Gracie. Yeah, I think
Actually I played one of our internal dramat Grace when
we reversed each other in blues camp. And then the
following week, I was in Raiders gym, just doing our
program that we do, and I said to our s
and C, I was like, it's just really not feeling right,
(03:45):
Like every time I pass a board or crunch or
I did like some what are they called, kind of
like rdls but you snatched someone. Anyway, I did that
cleans and it was just popping. It was painful, but
I thought it would just get better.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
Gosh, what in tolerance like threshold?
Speaker 3 (04:02):
Yeah, I broke my be I broke my hand in
a junior soccer game before a ball was kicked and
then play the whole game. But I'm not playing rugby league.
That's uh, yeah, you don't play. Don't play footy games
with a broken wrist. Obviously, you mentioned you're good to go.
You're gonna be playing round one.
Speaker 5 (04:20):
Yeah, so we find out this week obviously if we're
selected in round one or not. But I had a
beautiful pink cast that I'm very sad to see it go,
but very happy to see it got the same time.
So really great physios looking after me at Raiders. Heaps
of running and good to go.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Yeah, Grace's looking fit, just quiet.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
And at fullback because all this time out of the gym,
you know, speedy.
Speaker 5 (04:42):
I'm sitting next to our fastest player and the Raiders squad.
Out of all the players.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
I did see the running times.
Speaker 4 (04:49):
Try and beat a Raider, Yeah, I did see that
your time was quick.
Speaker 6 (04:53):
So you know what, I actually being down on the farm,
I take the dogs for a run almost every day,
and I became like almost obsessed with just going for
lack a cheeky little five k round, which I normally
would absolutely hate.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
So yeah, I really enjoyed it.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
Are you still playing front row this year?
Speaker 2 (05:13):
I am?
Speaker 6 (05:13):
And you know what's funny is a lot of people
have asked me this, and you know, I've kind of
said to borth and now SNC, I'm like, hey, do
you need a new winger?
Speaker 5 (05:23):
You know.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
Enough?
Speaker 2 (05:27):
I tried to convince our origin well tiny notes, our origin.
Speaker 6 (05:30):
Coach, and she's like, you know what, I actually think
it carries off the back would be really good and
so hey maybe next year, but no, still playing front row? Yeah,
just obviously adapting to you know, I guess what my
body is now, So I'm looking forward to it.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
So you played a trial game. Already played a trial
game against the Nights a week or two ago. Lost
the game, but that doesn't really matter in a trial game.
How did it go with? Because obviously there's some new
faces in the team this year. We've got Elie Simpson,
Georgia Thomas, Isabella Waterman, Leah and Tafunga, Chloe Saunders and
Jordan Preston. So new combinations, No Uppy Nickels anymore, no
(06:10):
ash Quinland anymore. How are the new combinations working so far?
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Yeah, they're going really well.
Speaker 6 (06:15):
And I guess with the trial match too, that's what
the trial match is about, trying those new combinations.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
So obviously you're expected.
Speaker 6 (06:21):
To see, you know, not perfect footing, and I guess
for us as a team, that's what it was all about.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
And we had an amazing trip.
Speaker 6 (06:30):
The Hunter Valley is absolutely beautiful and Seys not got
a bit of a crowd together for us. The field,
Oh my goodness, it was like it Yeah, definitely screamed not.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
Injured? Did they?
Speaker 4 (06:48):
Oh no, no, everyone is fine.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Was this an on field injury that we're not talking
about it was this an off field injury that we're
not talking.
Speaker 6 (06:58):
About, No, so it was a bit of an on
field injury with one of our players. But they're doing really,
really well, so yeah, And I guess the.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
New girls were unreal and they're.
Speaker 6 (07:11):
All so great, so they've been great additions this year
and they all just want to work hard.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
So while we didn't get the win, we felt like I.
Speaker 6 (07:19):
Guess, with the combinations we normally you know, would likely
play in, we felt very confident and really good. So
we got a lot out of it, which was the
whole point of the whole thing.
Speaker 5 (07:30):
So very very happy.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
So the way the team sort of seemed to line
up to me when I watched it, So Shae Robbins
ready was playing for work and Sriana Naitakatoka was playing
in the halves. Is that what we're expecting to see
throughout the season or or do you think coach will
go in a different direction.
Speaker 6 (07:46):
Well, I guess for us that we've got lots of
I guess our outside backs that can jump in all
different positions and that's what we've kind of been training
with with fleg as well. Although you know what I
said to Shay after the trial game, I said, you
are unreal at fullback, like.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
She her highball catches Grace, weren't they unreal?
Speaker 5 (08:07):
And just her conversations and her chat like you need
that fullback to be able to direct and send players
to flip an edge or tell them where the space
is like that sort of stuff. She's so good at
yelling at us and ordering us around. That's what you
need to full back.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
And then obviously she is such a utility.
Speaker 6 (08:28):
I think was it last year she well, she was
playing in lock for us as well, So I mean
if that's where she ends up in the halves, then yeah,
we're pretty lucky.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
I feel like she did play a game in the
halves last year. I feel like ash Quinland might have
missed a game that was the way it went.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
But yeah, and I was gonna say, obviously, you were
saying that your positions have shifted.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
You lost a.
Speaker 4 (08:48):
Big name in Appy Nichols, and we saw that she's
captain over in New Zealand, which is pretty yeah, Mama uppy,
like what's the culture, Like, you girls are such a
close knit, gorgeous group.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
And then it sounds like it's still pretty incredible over there.
Speaker 5 (09:03):
Yeah, I feel like we did lose our mum of
the group in Upy, and we lost a big I guess,
a big presence in Ash as well. She was so
bossy on that side and we definitely miss her. But
we've got those goals that can slot right in and
that kind of bring their own personality and flair. And
I think what's great about our group and our culture
(09:23):
Raiders is that everyone's so welcoming. We've got such a
big pacifica Island I guess representation in our squad. They're
also loving and they just want to make it like
a big family team, and that's what we're loving at
the moment that we're really seeing it's building, it's getting stronger.
Boats had us doing heaps of team bonding on a
Friday night, which has been player driven, so it's been
(09:46):
really great to see everyone's buying in. But yeah, we're
really enjoying it. And I think pre season's just flown
like that seven to eight week preseason. We're starting footy
next week. It feels like we only just walked through
those doors last week. So that's what we're really like
building on.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
What does the team bonding involve.
Speaker 4 (10:03):
I'm imagining like scrabble movie nights like is that what
it is?
Speaker 6 (10:10):
One of one of the CEOs of organizing.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
Grace you can explain.
Speaker 5 (10:17):
We actually just did a few. One of them was
like a marcher and flow.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
Oh my god, I love my jo.
Speaker 6 (10:26):
I got my first march at the markets last weekend,
and I used to give Gracie, you know, a lot
of chat around much.
Speaker 5 (10:36):
I'm like, oh, she told me tasted like grass.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
Yeah, I'm like, it would just taste a bad way.
Speaker 6 (10:41):
I hadn't even tasted it. The strawberry marcher life changing
was walking around the market.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
Good neighbor, Have you been to? Good neighbor?
Speaker 5 (10:47):
Love good neighbor. Okay, we'll take it another day.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
Yeah, with your la boo boo, Well march o La
boo boo.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
And I haven't got to La Boo Boo's yet. It
will work on you.
Speaker 5 (10:57):
We're trying to get there. But we did a mucha
and flow. So we made cups of tea together, walked
around our field that we train on. Some girls went barefoot,
others didn't want to brave the cold with their feet,
kept their shoes on. And then we went and did
like a little pilates and stretch session. It was really
nice and I feel like you just talk to people
that you usually wouldn't in the team and build those
(11:19):
kind of connections. And yeah, it's been really great. And
so that's been our focus, building off this like off
the field, so we can be connected on the field.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
I have two questions. Okay, when we were on the
so Sophia, remember this when we were doing what there
was something about a sports what is it called? Or
where is it from? Do you remember go Anna pulling?
Speaker 5 (11:39):
You know what we disgrace.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
Do not go on from where you're from, from the
hardened Goldman area, surely you know what in it?
Speaker 5 (11:46):
You've seen post footy match like get togethers. My partner
plays for the UNI North Ours and I was at
one of their functions just as a bystander. And the
belt around the back of the net that down on
all four these grown men belt.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
I was like, someone's going to start the next I
was so worried.
Speaker 3 (12:07):
So, you know what, go out and pulling, but didn't
take it, didn't play a part in the bonding session.
Speaker 5 (12:13):
S C and our physios I think would have a fit.
Speaker 4 (12:16):
I think the girl is a little more sophisticated like
give them some credit.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
Now boos was mentioned. What is a la boo boo?
I've got one because it's Sammy mentioned it. I've heard
Grace mentioned it before. I have no idea what a laboobo?
Speaker 6 (12:31):
I'm currently Sammy removed the shoes off her laboo I
brought you so backstory, I had ordered online because we
have matching La boo boos look like.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
They're raiders labooos because they're green.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
We will make sure we get these.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
Because my dog shooted off, so I have a little like,
what is it?
Speaker 4 (12:57):
Keiley who's paneling for us, looks after she is his auntie.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
A little two hours the smallest dog.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
He's tiny, tiny, but he chewed off.
Speaker 6 (13:05):
I had show it's yeah dog toy anyway.
Speaker 4 (13:09):
So yeah, how dare you so you can take these ones?
Speaker 1 (13:15):
I bought your laboo boo?
Speaker 3 (13:18):
So what do they do other than look cute? Do
they bring you good luck? Do they on my handbag?
Speaker 5 (13:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (13:26):
Mine sits on my handbag.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
Okay. They remind me a little bit of the troll
doll fad from like the early nineties. I think I'm
the only person's room.
Speaker 5 (13:37):
I cannot wait to pass these on my kids. I
just have to say, there'll be.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
Worth a millions.
Speaker 4 (13:42):
They were now they're like they've gone up by like
thirty dollars in the last couple of weeks.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
It's wild.
Speaker 5 (13:47):
But mine's going to be sitting on the sideline during
the games with Semi. He's going to babysit.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
There you go, my boo babysit, My boo boo coming yeah,
coming soon. To our social media accounts, Grace Camp and
Sammy Roses La booboos, get it out, Sophie, Have you
got a La boo boo?
Speaker 2 (14:06):
Absolutely not. There's just one cay mine.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
Get used to him.
Speaker 6 (14:13):
There there's one cafe in Belcon and that Gracie and
I drive past quite a lot, and every single time she.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
Turns to me and she looks and gives me a
bit of sight and she's like, you sure you don't
want to get you sure? Are you sure? Yes, Grace,
I am sure.
Speaker 6 (14:28):
I don't want to spend what is it, sixty plus
dollars on this little Mine was sixty two.
Speaker 5 (14:33):
Mine was sixty five and now the real Yeah, but.
Speaker 1 (14:39):
They've got lots of cute little outfits you can get foot.
Speaker 5 (14:41):
Have you seen the Gucci ones? Yes, I'm going to
get you the Gucci bug. Love you, Grace.
Speaker 3 (14:48):
So if it does, Grace have to hand in her
front roller card after this conversation. My goodness, take a
spot in the backs.
Speaker 5 (14:54):
Well, you know that's an insold if I've ever heard one,
you see, being.
Speaker 2 (14:59):
Like, you know, like a center winger.
Speaker 5 (15:03):
Yeah, she's so quick. Now, speedy girl.
Speaker 3 (15:06):
Speen of the speedy girls. We have got some. As
I mentioned before, there's some new new players in the
outside backs. Isabella Waterman came down from the nights, We've
got Elie Simpson's joined the club. Can we expect to
see much of much of these players this year? Will they?
Will we see them a lot in the in the
starting site or how have the new players sort of
found their way? Of course, Leanne to Funger as well,
(15:26):
representative player coming into the side, so obviously spots had
to open up for her. Should we be excited about
the back line this year?
Speaker 6 (15:33):
Absolutely, Lay especially so obviously. The other night we played
flag in what is like a non contact game.
Speaker 5 (15:44):
It was contact.
Speaker 3 (15:46):
Sparring in boxing, silter on the punch but not but
not really.
Speaker 6 (15:50):
We were one hundred percent and we were so stoked
because we actually did really well against them, and watching
Lay run against those boys and step one step another.
Speaker 5 (16:00):
Palm, yeah, sit one down, line.
Speaker 6 (16:02):
Break, she was unreal shoot like she would get out
of the line and just shut their play down.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
And I'm really excited to see her play.
Speaker 6 (16:10):
I know she's a very very talented player, so I think, yeah,
she's one to definitely look out for.
Speaker 2 (16:17):
But i mean, all really, what do you reckon?
Speaker 5 (16:20):
Grace? All of them?
Speaker 2 (16:21):
Isy is unreal as well.
Speaker 6 (16:22):
Her ball skills watching her just crazy be able to
just catch a ball, flick it all the way to
the edge, give it to mads.
Speaker 5 (16:30):
But also such big, strong women, and I think them
coming into the squad has added so much healthy competition.
I think we've really seen this year everyone working so
hard to get that starting jersey or the bench jersey
because no one knows where they're going to be. Because
new girls have come in, girls have gotten really great
over the preseason break, Like, it's been just great watching
(16:53):
people turn into I guess we're not professional, but aiming
to be professional and putting them they're best foot for
to get that jersey. But these new girls coming in,
and we talked about Elise Simpson, I've watched her grow
up playing rugby union and play sevens, and she's just
a freaky girl. Like her speed, her ball skills, She's
(17:16):
just a born athlete. And I think both talks about
one percent as we can do off the field, but
having athletes that are coming in that are natural and
just so beautiful to be around it just.
Speaker 3 (17:29):
So much better.
Speaker 6 (17:30):
I had a conversation with both after the trial match
and he turned to me and he smiled, and it
was probably the first time I actually really heard him
say this, and he just went, gee, I've got a
tough job this year.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
That is really exciting to have. You know how many
girls we have.
Speaker 5 (17:44):
We have twenty twenty seven.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
Twenty four plus four twenty four in the first grade
plus development.
Speaker 6 (17:52):
Yeah, so twenty eight player squad and for everyone to
be in contention for a position and no one's safe,
Like you know, there's there's younger girls out there that
are absolutely and I'm watching, going I want to I
want to do that, and like, that's so exciting for
our squad this year. So yeah, I think over the
(18:12):
whole board, it's going to be a really, really exciting season.
Speaker 4 (18:15):
Gracie said, there, you know all these beautiful, big, strong women.
One of the players that we saw towards the end
of last season, and for me, she is imprinted on
my brain because her debut game was at go Io
Amelia Paskala.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
When she came on the field, Oh my goodness, beautiful,
And I.
Speaker 4 (18:36):
Didn't realize how young she was because even when I
spoke to her, she just gave me, like, mum, strong energy,
Like what can we expect from her this year?
Speaker 5 (18:45):
She she just carries herself so well. I know, coming
into our squad, she had a really tough job she'd
been i know, battling an injury through an international game
she got hip dropped, so she came into our squad
carrying that in still and worked so hard to get
where she is now. I know she's definitely one that's
(19:05):
put her best foot forward for one of those jerseys.
And watching her play in that trial match, she sat
so many people down and she just came flying out
of the line. Everything she did was with intent and purpose,
and that's what we're trying to build again on at Raiders.
And she's just one girl that I guess in visions
like what it means to be in a Raiders jersey.
(19:27):
You know, she's such a big body to have on
the field, and she changes the game for us. Her
coming off the bench would be so instrumental for a
win or to change the game in I guess going
into half time to put us, I guess above the
other team. So she's one girl that for me. She
might not I guess. She went through a tough time
(19:49):
on social media the other day, just with some comments
on a post about body image, and she turned up
to training that night and trained so hard.
Speaker 6 (19:57):
Yeah, she is like one human that could win a
game for you. She's that player. She's just she's just
got a footy head on her and she just wants.
Speaker 5 (20:07):
To work hard.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
So yeah, I'm really excited for her this season.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
Can I delve?
Speaker 4 (20:11):
I know it's not so much the footy side of things,
but you mentioned their body image, like, I'm a woman, killy,
our beautiful panel up is a woman, And can I
just say how bloody inspiring it is to see you
girlies out there and using your beautiful bodies like the
way that God created them and showing the younger girlies
(20:33):
that it's okay if you're not a six foot size
for Victoria's supermodel and I feel like lately and you
guys tell me if I'm wrong, but with the Olympics
and I own a mar coming out and.
Speaker 1 (20:46):
Just I feel like, slowly, ever so slightly, the tide
is turning. Do you guys feel that too?
Speaker 5 (20:51):
Yeah? Massively. I think we grew up where there wasn't
female athletes to look up to, and you were looking
at these models in magazines and books, and then like,
for me, body image has been such a big thing. Yeah,
Like I grew up so much taller than everyone, so
much bigger than everyone, and I'm finally in a position
where I get to use my body for something that
(21:11):
puts me in the spot like four young girls to see,
Like growing up wasn't easy, having a body like mine
wasn't easy. But I'm around strong, beautiful women that support
me every day, and I get to support them to
do something amazing, Like we're not just playing footy, we're
actually changing how the world views women, and that's something
really special.
Speaker 3 (21:30):
The Raiders that are all wside. This is the third season. Now,
there's obviously been some progress in expanding the competition. There's
two more games this year, there's two more teams. Obviously
they've they've extended the State of Origin series as well.
You have you seen just internally people are involved in
women's rugby league directly. Have you seen that growth from
(21:51):
inside over the last couple of years, the way that
it's sort of expanded and where it might be heading
over the next few years.
Speaker 6 (21:57):
Yeah, I think definitely, especially even being a part of
the Origin series. I think that first camp, like the
amount of media and appearances and you know, all that
sort of stuff that you know normally like within a camp,
Like the past few years, it's been there, but it
kind of hasn't but like each year it is constantly growing.
(22:18):
And I think now that Gracie and I are going
around to clubs and like the other morning we're at
PC YC.
Speaker 2 (22:23):
And everyone knows who we are, which is.
Speaker 6 (22:26):
So exciting, especially for us women. They're obviously getting like
we've got we love him Rise our SNC on full
time now and that's a huge change. He's someone that
we have access to pretty much, you know, twenty four
to seven helps us with injury management, you know, organizing
(22:46):
our I guess our gym programs and our extra conditioning all.
Speaker 5 (22:50):
That sort of stuff.
Speaker 6 (22:51):
So yeah, we're definitely seeing a change in the women's
game for sure.
Speaker 3 (22:55):
The crowd numbers for state of origin this year, for
the women's state of origin were really good, which is
despite the fact that you would know so the conditions.
The weather conditions for at least two of the games
was miserable. It was like, oh, this women's state of
he comes the rain, he comes the mud. But the
crowds were still really good despite the conditions.
Speaker 6 (23:11):
Yeah, I'll tell you about one moment, and it was
Game one. Obviously we did lose to New South Wales.
But we were on the bus and I can't remember,
I think it was Kille Joseph maybe behind me, and
I got to tap on the shoulder because I was
just looking forward at the bus like nervous as and
we were almost at the stadium and I looked right
and there was like crowds of people walking down the
(23:32):
roads in Brisbane, and I was like, I like said,
everyone look like have a look like that's all for us.
And I think we had just over we broke the
record again over twenty six thousand people.
Speaker 2 (23:44):
But to see like men you.
Speaker 6 (23:46):
Know, holding their kids, hands, families, you know, young teenagers,
men and women like it was a surreal moment. And
if that's not like a pump you up on the
way to an Origin game, I don't know what is.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
So that's a pretty surreal moment.
Speaker 6 (24:02):
And yeah, obviously the other two games too, there was
a heap of people and a.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
Lot of support, which was really cool.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
We love to see it.
Speaker 4 (24:11):
How do you girls go managing Obviously it's not your
full time job yet hopefully one day it will be
how do you go managing everything else in your lives?
Speaker 5 (24:19):
So IF and I are really fortunate, we get to
work at the club during the season in the community space,
so we get to go out to clubs, go out
to schools, get to know people, let them get to
know us off the field sort of thing. I'm also
at UNI, so I'm studying as well, trying to see family,
catching up with friends, socializing on the weekend. I think
(24:40):
we're just so used to it that it hasn't really
it's not really new for us. But I think so
IF and I are in a really fortunate position to
be able to work at the club, see what happens
behind the scenes. You get a bit more of a
feel for what the club does for us and how
important it is. For them to have a women's team
and what of goes on in the background to kind
(25:02):
of put on events at the stadium, like we helped
with set up and pack down, like those sorts of things.
It's been great, yeah, And I think for me, I
like the one thing that I probably struggle with more
now is being away from home, from Will and the farm.
But I guess like Raiders for me is a family
away from family, and I pretty much live in Gracie's
(25:25):
pocket from you know, Monday to Sunday.
Speaker 6 (25:27):
Every week, so she looks after me, which is special.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
How much does the Queensland girl complain about the cold less.
Speaker 5 (25:37):
Than the first Yipbourne's from Melbourne girls?
Speaker 6 (25:46):
You know, I just feel like, well, guys, I grew
up in Tasmania. I know what cold weather is, but
I feel like cam is Canberra.
Speaker 3 (25:55):
I've went to Camber my whole life, and I still
complain about the cold. I was on the sideline that
last the last men's game, the Papa record breaking one,
and I was just shivering the whole time. I was miserable,
and I'm.
Speaker 6 (26:05):
Like it looked cold sitting on my couch in front
of the wood heater and I was watching going.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
Everyone looks freezing.
Speaker 5 (26:13):
I'm so warm.
Speaker 3 (26:14):
It was windy, it was drizzly, and I was like,
why did I not roster Sammy on.
Speaker 2 (26:20):
Home? Yeah, in front of the heater, in my hot cup,
my lad lovely.
Speaker 3 (26:25):
Now we are, as we mentioned earlier, we are rapidly
approaching the first game of the season July five, Goo Stadium.
So you get a home game to start the start
the year. It's a doubleheaded with the men, but you're
on it on at three point fifteen. What would you
say to the fans and how much the team's improved
over the off season. Obviously missed the finals last year,
you'd be pretty keen to make it into the finals
(26:46):
this season.
Speaker 6 (26:47):
I'm really excited obviously seeing the growth from the girls
from even just last year into this year. And I
guess some of the new girls too. Jordan Preston, she
is good. I love she is so fair, the most
beautiful girls. So yeah, I think fit and fast footy is.
Speaker 3 (27:05):
What She's a former Dragon. Hopefully she's in the team
because she'll be up for this one former Dragons player.
Speaker 5 (27:10):
There's two of our Woollongong girls that are because George, Yeah,
we've got two girls that are from the Gong area
that will be absolutely pushing for this next game to
take on the Red V. But we've got three home
games in a row to start our season, which is unreal.
It's so exciting. And the fact that we play at
three fifteen, young girls can come and watch. There's no
(27:32):
junior forty on at that time. Get out there, get
to go Ao, bring everyone bring.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
Mentioned that you missed the finals last year. I think
you've got a great roster for this year and I
think you've got a team that can challenge for the
competition sports Bet. Out of the twelve teams, have you
tenth favorite. There's some motivation speak to you that is
absolutely ridiculous. I think you've got a really strong ross.
We've got two representative players in the room right now
and yeah, we've got a I think you're a red
(28:06):
hot chance at winning the comp.
Speaker 5 (28:07):
Well, like you look at our games last year we
lost by a try. Yeah, we look at that. Yeah,
And that's what was so frustrating about last year. We
were in it, we were so in it, and I
guess the ladder where we were standing at seventh didn't
really show how we played and those games, but it
sucks points ad up. But I feel like this season
(28:29):
it's a totally different squad. It could go anywhere and hopefully,
fingers crossed it's in that final series.
Speaker 4 (28:38):
Check in, because the squad has changed a bit. Adam
and I asked, I think there was so few and
our lease last year kind of a few rapid fire
questions about like who was the cheekiest in training?
Speaker 1 (28:52):
Who was most likely to annoy Zaharah.
Speaker 3 (28:55):
He's the most annoying? Is it still Sophie?
Speaker 1 (29:01):
Who would it be the cheekiest?
Speaker 5 (29:04):
I think Littles is pretty cheeky. I have to say
she will just pop up with the roast rogue things
out of nowhere, or she will just come up and
she'll like pinch you and walk away. Yeah, you just looked,
who's this Littles Shante all her little little Yeah.
Speaker 3 (29:27):
Does she deliberately try to annoy big Sister?
Speaker 5 (29:30):
Yes, they they don't bicker, but she will just.
Speaker 6 (29:35):
I get like because obviously Littles is in the middle
of the nine and she just looks at me and
rolls her.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
However, and like.
Speaker 5 (29:44):
Fix your passes and Littles is like fixed yields first.
Speaker 3 (29:48):
Under herd if I were to do a list of
ten people on the face of the planet that I
would least want to run into in a dark alley.
I think Sahara is still on that one. She is,
she's got some intensity, but that intensity is what it's
also what you need in your football team.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
Yeah, she's unreal.
Speaker 6 (30:06):
She Yeah, she's playing some really good footy too, And
just watching her train at the moment, the way she leads.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
Our group around and like, no, no question is a
silly question for her.
Speaker 6 (30:17):
She's obviously, you know, got new outside backs and had
a million different combinations and stuff, but she's still just
doing her and yeah, and sharing.
Speaker 5 (30:28):
Her knowledge, like watching her teach the other halves. I'm like,
that so special. I want to be a half Just
little Lily Boyle beautiful.
Speaker 6 (30:37):
She is such a little young gun and she's been
she was telling me really quietly, because she's the same
sort of thing. You know, she doesn't she doesn't speak
up too much, but she was telling me She's like, oh,
she's been coming down every Thursday and done like kicking
with me, and we just kicked for the whole afternoon.
Speaker 2 (30:54):
And I'm just like, oh, that's just the best. That's
big and.
Speaker 5 (30:58):
Yeah, and this little little little back on the first day,
like her mum dropped her off in the car park
and she was in tears, and I'm like, it's like
dropping your child off to boarding that sur vibes I
got like cuddled her up the stairs and I'm like,
we're all your sisters out.
Speaker 2 (31:14):
Okay, that's such a sweet soul.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
Yeah, bless Yeah, yeah, I don't think we've actually we
may have announced it on the back end of last year,
but our Players of the Year on Raiders on Mix
for an rl W season twenty twenty four. So if
you're actually one of our players of the year, yay,
we do have we do have something dumbing. It hasn't
arrived yet.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
It got it, got it, got it.
Speaker 3 (31:36):
Got lost in the universe. But yeah, you and Somemime
are actually tired as our players of the Year first
season twenty of the.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
Paper scissors that we have to do for whatever's coming.
Speaker 5 (31:45):
Actually King of the Ring we.
Speaker 3 (31:47):
Have, we have the budget for the far So maybe
Bartlet was our in all ye all n r ol
W Raiders on Mix Player of the u first season
twenty twenty three, but yeah, it was actually you and
you and Smima last season.
Speaker 1 (31:57):
We'll have to buy you all the boo boo to
celebrate and don't worry.
Speaker 4 (32:01):
So and I just wanted to say, I mean for
us girlies again, You're just both so awesome and we
love I love watching you to interact with the fans.
I know you're both favorites of the fans, even under
(32:23):
the in the tunnels.
Speaker 1 (32:24):
Last time I saw you, Grace, and I had my
laboo boo on me. I don't think I saw you, Sophie.
You might have still been down on the farm with
your partner.
Speaker 4 (32:31):
But just the way you girls interact and the time
that you take to interact with people like that goes
such a long way. And it's all part of this
community that you're building, and you look like you enjoy
it too.
Speaker 5 (32:44):
We do enjoy it. I think, like in going back
to when we were younger, we didn't have this, So
it's so special to be able to give that to
like young girls and boys and even the older ones
like having a chat to. I was at the pub
the other day in Harden and these this group of
old men we like. We love watching the women's it's
so much better than watching the men's.
Speaker 3 (33:08):
The men are going pretty well. This year. If they
went tonight, they're on top of the ladder.
Speaker 5 (33:13):
Go boys, Yeah, we're backing them.
Speaker 3 (33:15):
Do you have much interaction with the with the men's
team or is it training times are completely different.
Speaker 6 (33:20):
Yeah, like obviously it's completely different by the time we're
in there out.
Speaker 2 (33:24):
But Grace and I obviously working at the club scene
them around it.
Speaker 6 (33:28):
Oh, they're all so lovely, like they'll all stop have
a chat, say hi. They're busy, but yeah, they're unreal.
Ricky's great came into the kitchen the other day.
Speaker 2 (33:38):
Hey, everyone, it's so loud.
Speaker 3 (33:45):
Was he yelling at someone, big smile on his face.
Speaker 5 (33:48):
Yeah. I think the fact that they're doing so well
and again such a tight knit group. They look like
he's so happy. Yeah, and Jed played really well. Yes,
so happy, happy.
Speaker 2 (33:59):
Guys and moment.
Speaker 3 (34:00):
Well, this is our confident I am about your chances
this year. I've already been looking at hotel bookings for
Grand Final weekends, so.
Speaker 5 (34:06):
Pay the town green.
Speaker 3 (34:09):
As I mentioned earlier, of course you got the you
got the Dragons. Round one three fifteen kickoff g a
O Stadium tickets a ticket tech big game would be
nice to get off to get off to a good
start of the season.
Speaker 5 (34:18):
With a win and to welcome the new girls. They
haven't experienced that Viking clap running out to it. We've
been on the on the sideline supporting the men this
season as a group. But I think for them running
out to a Viking clap with so many fans filling
go Io Stadium for our game one would just set
us on a great trajectory for the season.
Speaker 1 (34:36):
Off to a flying start. Oh gosh, I just love talking.
Speaker 5 (34:39):
To you too.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
We were get happy all date.
Speaker 2 (34:41):
Well's day.
Speaker 1 (34:42):
If you we'll go get just a matcha matcha what
now a matcha?
Speaker 4 (34:49):
The green drink a killes shaking her head saying, no,
strawberry sweet.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
I mean I got a I've got a vanilla latte
coffee saschet thing in here under the sachets a ConA girl,
the girls. I don't get it.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
I don't get it, and I'll only have one in
the morning and I don't have to.
Speaker 5 (35:10):
I've started drinking the Coco Bella coconut coffee water taste
like you might.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
I'm not even kidding you.
Speaker 5 (35:17):
You don't Is that good or bad?
Speaker 3 (35:20):
That's still on the hot choking?
Speaker 4 (35:21):
Yeah, I love it's so embarrassing because I don't drink coffee.
So when marches became a thing, I was like, oh,
I don't have to go. And you know when you
go out and take I take clients I work in
marketing during the day and you're like, what would you like?
Speaker 1 (35:33):
Hot chocolate please?
Speaker 2 (35:34):
With marshmallows please extra MARSHMALLOWO.
Speaker 1 (35:39):
So yeah, I know, I'm like a much please.
Speaker 3 (35:41):
It's a date years and years ago and we're going
out for coffee and she's like, what would you like?
And she was getting the coffees and I was like,
can I have a MoCCA please? And she looked at
me funny.
Speaker 5 (35:50):
I looked at Sophy funny when she asked for a
moca the other day.
Speaker 2 (35:53):
I either have an ice long but ice long black
or a MoCCA. I think that's that is the year.
Speaker 6 (35:59):
The two extreme enough and now I just have my
macona in the morning, in my yeady.
Speaker 5 (36:07):
In her white yeddy coming. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (36:08):
Is it brilliant?
Speaker 3 (36:09):
Well, we need to let you two get back to work.
So we'll let you go and we'll talk coffees and
marches and hopefully get you back in later in the
Thank you so much for coming in today.
Speaker 5 (36:19):
No, thank you so much for having us, Thank you
for having us. We'll see you at g.
Speaker 2 (36:23):
I O three fifteen on the fifth or July. Jeez,
halfway through the year already, aren't we.
Speaker 3 (36:30):
I'm so excited for the season.
Speaker 1 (36:31):
I'm so glad, well, so excited.
Speaker 3 (36:35):
Thank you so much for coming in, thank you.
Speaker 5 (36:36):
For having us. Se
