I saw the musical London years ago when the kids
were younger, which was brilliant. We saw trailer and wentzi
Gladiator this week. It looks incredible, amazing. There's a couple
of casts from bridgeton are it yes?
Speaker 4 (00:51):
Yes, Ariana Grande is it it as well? Get the
kids in looks amazing. So I'm really looking forward to.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
Up against Gladiator them this weekend. Isn't it two very
different movies too given audiences.
Speaker 5 (01:00):
I had a great fact about Wicked. Now I forget
who it is Universal Warner Brothers who makes Wicked?
Speaker 3 (01:05):
Maybe Universal?
Speaker 5 (01:07):
No other of their properties has made more money than
Wicked has. And it was only because a guy wanted
to write the musical for it, and he went like
looked it up and saw that Universal owns the rights
to it. This this idea of a prequel to Wizard
of Oz, and they weren't doing anything with it. He's
begged and begged them to make the musical and they're like,
(01:27):
all right, who cares make this musical?
Speaker 3 (01:29):
It's made it more than a billion dollars.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
It's a brilliant story Disneyland having its own little theme park,
like it's.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
Just going to get the enormous And what are you

Gold Coast straight after the show this weekend with the

have organized it. Haven't told us what we're doing. Just
said to dress in sporty attire.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
So you think it'd be are you nervous? Now means
some sort of sporting challenge.
Speaker 5 (02:06):
I don't know, maybe like a laser tag or something.
I thought, I'm not sure what to expect.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Do you remember when we did laser tag a couple
of years ago? So actually really good. It was the
three of us against the producers because you were talking
to the water, you know, we're laser guns were hold hold.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
You were like.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Catching up with the producers. Go is this is good fun,
isn't it? And they're all, you're giving away our positions.
We should do that again.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
It was great fun.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
Yeah, all right, let's take a break. When we come back,
we get into this week's Double Thumbs Up.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
The Christian O'Connell show podcast.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
It's the Christian O'Connell Show. Every Friday, we go around
the team me, Chack and Patsy and we call it
double thumbs We're talking about the things we're enjoying at
the moment. Patsy, what's it for you?
Speaker 4 (02:48):
Yeah, well we've got the Bogan Santa Gary. Haven't we
this week giving away listeners you know Christmas lists and stuff.
I am right as you know, into the Christmas spirit.
Netflix now has a special section and we've started the
Christmas movie marathon. So most nights we will.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
Watch Christmas what is it? The sixties? Fifteenth today?
Speaker 4 (03:10):
Fabulous. It's like a corner coch a long wait.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
You watch one movie a night until Christmas.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
Run out of the absolutely last night was Elf. You
can never watch watch that.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
Christmas Eve was a condition.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
I love it. So it's a little section. It's it's
great start your holidays here.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
You know there's a new Richard Kurtis movie coming out.
Christmas Movie.
Speaker 5 (03:31):
Yes, yeah, yeah, I'd love Actually, you would call a
Christmas movie, wouldn't you?
Speaker 1 (03:38):
Christmas?
Speaker 4 (03:39):
You know Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Does you know when you
do the movie with the beautiful orchestra.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
To all the scenes.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
Yeah, I think they're doing that again this year. But
it's got all your different genres so you can have like,
you know, historical Christmas movies, comedy Christmas movies. It's fantastic.
It's all laid out there for you want.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
To be re rolled of that pizza historical christ.
Speaker 4 (04:02):
Is thirty fourth or.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
Thirty sixth whatever grim ones they are where there's some
moral lesson about appreciation.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
That was lovely the other.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
Thing, and it's just dropped on Netflix's Return of the King,
which is basically a documentary about Elvis's sixty eight comeback
special Oh Wow, Christian, And they've got a heap of
well known, well known people Conan O'Brien, Bruce Springsteen, all
commenting on their thoughts of it and.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
That iconic this is.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
This is the best witch of the year for me. Conan.
Speaker 4 (04:39):
Conan's really he hits a nail on the head. You
see him in the short saying My God. He came out.
He was like the most beautiful man that you've ever seen.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
He did look beautiful in that sixty eight comeback.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
Specially well, why was the comeback so big?
Speaker 1 (04:52):
Because he's been written off he was he's sort of
become a bit laughable with all those really bad movies,
and so the music industry was changing and he was
looking a bit outdated. It was towards the seventies. Yeah,
and suddenly he was mainstream. He wasn't cool anymore, and
then he did something it was really spectacular and cool.
Speaker 4 (05:09):
Yeah, it was a defining moment for Elvis because even
the Colonel when they were organizing that, that was actually
a Christmas special, the sixty eight comeback, and the Colonel
wanted him to wear you know, like this Rudolph knitted
jumper and the whole.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
Cheating as leaning to or he was trying to move
away from. And they had a big falling out because
that's actually incredibly edgy what he did.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
It was, and the song if I Could Dream it
was a political statement. It was a defining moment for Elvis.
So brilliant doco.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
I got to watch that.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
Yeah it's on Netflix. Yeah, on Netflix. Return of the
King all.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
Right, coming up next, and we're going to take a
break when we come about Jack and I will shout
our double thumbs up.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
The Christian O'Connell show podcast.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
Friday first half other show, we did some called double
thumbs up where we talk about the things were into
at the moment. So if you're looking for a new
TV show or someone to watch this weekend, there might
be something in it for you. Jackie boy, what are
you enjoying I love.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
A meat thermometer.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
I know you do, yes, several I go.
Speaker 5 (06:05):
It was actually Andy Lee who told me that you
can get ones that a Wi Fi and the smoker.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
You used it last week. Yeah, smoking for nine hours.
You have to do two or three things where you
rotate it when it gets a certain internal temperature.
Speaker 5 (06:19):
For me, it's this one's called the bb i Q
and it does work. You can links up to your
phone and you see what temperature.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
I've got the thermo pen If anyone is interested, it's
an orange one.
Speaker 5 (06:28):
It's the barbecue. I just thought it was overkilled. The
normal thermometer works, you shove it in straight away. This
one you have to load up, get the app out.
It's loading, it's loading. And then also, stupidly, the first
time I used it, I thought you could just because
it's got plastic around it on the end. I thought
you could just grab it with your fingers.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
Yourself. It's being branded so hot. I don't know why
I thought you could just I've done that, yeah, or
grab the wire off and before in the smoker. That
thing you can leave it in the smoker for nine hours.
One of the things that like three hundred degrees you
touched that you will scream, actually heard singing.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
That's what happened to me this week.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
All right, double thumbs up for me. Then, well, both
of us went to see Gladiator this week. I really
enjoyed it. I thought it's good fun. It's a movie
that you should go and see at the cinema on
the big screen. It's hugely enjoyable. You don't need to
worry about the plot. I would say it actually makes
john Wick look highbrow. There's more backstory in john Wick
than there is in Gladia. But I really enjoyed it,
(07:34):
and so did my wife. It's a great movie. It's
got big shoes to feel to get anywhere near just
how great Russell Crowe was and the original one. But
it's still a really huge, enjoyable sequel.
Speaker 5 (07:44):
After we were talking about it yesterday, I looked up
Ridley Scott's age. He'll be eighty seven at the.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
End of the month.
Speaker 1 (07:50):
At the end of the month, he said, like two
of the best sci fi movies evan Alien Aliens. He
also did Thelma and Louise. This range is huge eighty six.
He's in charge of the sequel to the movie he
made twenty four years ago. So yeah, I really enjoyed it.
The other thing that has just landed last week, which
is outstanding with a brilliant actor called Eddie Redmain Dave
(08:12):
The Jackal was a novel in the seventies and it
became a big movie with a British actor called Edward Fox.
It's a brilliant, smart movie. It's now become a TV series.
It is very cooled, very very smart, brilliant thriller, really
great with Eddie Redman as the Jackal. That is on Binge.
It's outstanding. Highly recommend to that ten out of ten
for me
