Speaker 1 (00:01):
Bad for Okay ran Rough. Welcome to the field, NBA
(00:21):
not NFL. I know I've been punching out the weekly
NFL podcast, but I've been inspired. I've been inspired by
what's happened thus far in the NBA. Across the NBA,
all teams have played at least ten games, some have
played a dozen, some have played even played thirteen. But
I reckon we've seen enough from most teams to form
(00:44):
an assessment, a judgment across all thirty franchises. We have seen, though,
a few too many injuries to keep players. Some we
should come to expect by now. Kawhi Leonard surprise surprise, Embiid,
Paul Zingis, Ben Simmons has missed some time. Even our
own Dante Exum. Those guys have been injured as much,
(01:08):
if not more than they haven't. But a few other names,
or a heap of other names have bobbed up in
the first two three weeks of the season. Aaron Gordon's
down in Denver. James Wiseman will miss the season as well.
Jar Morant is injured at the moment he'd made a
remarkable start to his season. Jimmy Butler's injured, Damian Lillard,
(01:32):
Chris Middleton, and man to The Bucks need those guys back.
The Pelicans are missing their newest acquisition, de Jonte Murray.
Of course they're missing Zion as per Chet. Holmgren had
started like an All Star. He's out for a couple
of months. Paulo Boncero is an All Star, but he
(01:52):
was looking like an MVP. He's out for some time
with an oblique injury. Tyrese Max he's done a hamstring.
Kevin Durant's done a calf. Hopefully no more major injuries.
It's the worst part about sports. But early on in
the NBA season, I don't know whether these guys haven't
done the appropriate level of work in the offseason, but
(02:15):
my own might. The amount of soft tissue injuries we've
seen has been remarkable. On the old same game multi
wagering front, we can do without the stinger cheese. It's
been brutal. It has been brutal even today on the
sports bet feed. I'm aligned to the mighty sports bet
(02:38):
a seventy four dollars NBA MALTI we go, tick tick
tick tick tick tick tick all the way. We need
twenty five from Spider from Donovan Mitchell, who's been absolutely
killing it in the early part of the season. The
Cavs are thirteen and zip if you don't mind. Spider
goes off in the last quarter twenty three points. We
(03:00):
fall a couple short on a seventy four dollar multi.
All the other legs hit the other little play. Now.
I know you don't want my sub stories, but another
man's misery is potentially another man's humor. Was I thought,
I'll have one more throw at the stumps here on
(03:22):
a Thursday afternoon. The kids are at school, I've been
to Melbourne and back done some work. I'll have one
more throw at the stumps. We'll take We'll take the
big man Goga, let's just call him Goga in Orlando
to score ten points or more did the job for us.
We'll take Jaron Jackson JUNR take to grab six boards?
(03:45):
Did so? I think he grabs seven. And we'll take
Devin Booker, who's been dishing out of cyst like their lollipops,
to get six or more dimes only five tick tick
cross the life of same game. Multi's unbelievable stuff. All right,
Let's get on to why I sat down to do
(04:07):
this pot in the first place. Cleveland, as I mentioned
thirteen in zip unbeaten as I sit down on a
Thursday night, okasee or as Andie Maher says, oct they're
ten and two, Boston at ten and three, Golden State
have begun strong. I've got them wrong. And Phoenix look good,
(04:28):
which is fantastic because we took a position. We had
something on Mike Burdenholz for Coach of the Year and
his price has been more than half. Speaking of awards,
Dyson Daniels Defensive Player of the Year anyone we got
on at thirty five to one aka thirty six dollars,
and my goodness, gracious, he should be much shorter than that.
(04:51):
He is a demon on defense. He leads the league
in steals at three point six per game, and he's
numbers everywhere else. No, I no, it's a defensive award,
but he's numbers going up everywhere else. Only helps fourteen
points per game, four boards, three assists and three and
(05:11):
a half steals. That is a one mighty fine stat line.
And that is a stat line if it can maintain,
that will get the young man paid in the coming years.
All right, here we go, one thought for all thirty
NBA teams. You're with him him denfe Now for no
real logical reason, We'll go from the bottom of the
(05:33):
Western Conference to the top, and then from the top
of the East to the bottom. And as I said,
there's no logic to that. All right, Utah the Jazz
Laurie markin and he's not quite a difference maker. I
thought he could be, and thought his game would allow
him to be just thirty eight percent from the floor
this year, and he only grabs six and a bit
rebounds per game. Not enough. I wonder whether Utah think
(05:57):
about trading him for picks and how New Orleans? Would
you trade Zion if you were running or if you
own New Orleans. I understand kids love putting the number
one jersey on their back, but he's always injured. He's
in terrible shape, he doesn't shoot the outside ball. Would
(06:20):
you trade him? He's an unreliable commodity. I'm just asking
ask yourself that question. Would you trade Zion Portland? Look,
the gang is not all that bad in the PDX.
Jeremy Grant needs to get more rebounds. DeAndre Ayton needs
more shots. But if they hit on their next draft
(06:40):
pick or two, and I haven't checked, but they should
have plenty thanks to the Damian Lillard deal. They'll be
just okay. That will be a okay Dallas. It's been
a weird start for last year's runners up. Maybe losing
some depth pieces in Josh Green, Derek Jones and having
(07:00):
Dante Xhem injured has stunted them just a bit. They're
not as deep as they want to be early in
the season. I think they'll be okay Minnesota, whilst Kat
Karl Anthony Towns is balling in New York. Julius Randall's
beginning in Minnesota. Minneapolis, to be specific, has been good,
(07:22):
not great, just good. I wonder whether starting Nas Reid
and bringing Rudy Gobert off the bench might work. There's
food for thought for all you Wolves fans San Antonio.
We do wish head coach Greg Popovich well after that
scary medical incident where he suffered a stroke. Coaching wise,
(07:43):
I thought this before pop had his incident. Certainly with
the assistance now in charge, they don't draw up enough
plays to get wenby easy shots. I understand he's seven
four and he can probably shoot up over anyone, but
can we draw him up some easy alley oops from me,
bounds early in quarters, early in games. Can we get
(08:04):
him some easy back to the basket, looks down in
the low post, or some easy pick and pop jumpers.
Just don't see the young man get enough easy shots
despite the fact he had a fitty piece today the
La Clippers. You can just leave me out of this organization.
From top to bottom. The new arena is fantastic. I'd
(08:24):
love to go there. In fact, I'll probably go and
have a look at it in three weeks when I'm
in the States. But you can't win big with Harden
and Leonard. Leonard's never out there. At least James Harden's
out there. Leonard's never out there. How can you win
with a player who's never out there? Sacramento the documentary
(08:46):
starting five. I've got one episode to go. It's made
me love Big Dematis, Sabanas, Dormants. It's just a great name,
sir Banas s Bonus. I should say he has pronounced
his name twice, s Bonus. His friends call him Domas.
He's in unbelievable condition, gets up and down the floor
(09:10):
like he's a shooting guard. He's a mini Jokich. Maybe
Nikol The Jokic light. I do wonder though Demart de Rosen.
He's one of my guys. I've always loved him. I've
watched him all the way through. I wonder whether he
fits with his team, though. I wonder Memphis jj J
(09:31):
Jaron Jackson Junior. He's a unique offensive talent. I know
we're pretty keen on him from a defensive standpoint, but
he's a very very good offensive player as well. Anied
Morant back, his first handful of games were MVP caliber,
and he's the one that can drive the Grizzlies forward.
The Lakers King James back to back to back triple doubles,
(09:55):
the oldest player to do so since Lebron James. Anthony
Davis is the twenty twenty four version of a twenty
and ten player, which is twenty five and twelve per game,
twenty eight and twelve per game if you don't mind.
For a young man who at Kentucky got his points
on AliOS, oops and putbacks, he is unbelievably skilled on
(10:19):
both ends of the floor. Houston, they're sneaking under the
raider of some me included, maybe not my man Paddo,
who's their chief cheerleader. They're a fun team to watch.
I just don't reckon as yet. November fourteen, eighth, four
pm Australian Eastern Standard Time. Have they got any quality wins?
(10:43):
I've got to win over Memphis, maybe not much else.
We'll see Denver. Some wrote them off, but those some
forgot about the three time MVP. And he's totally dominating
basketball again, which is thirty a game, close enough to
(11:03):
fourteen boards per game, close enough to twelve assists per game,
almost a couple of steels per game. He's shooting the
ball at fifty seven percent from two and fifty seven
percent from three. It is unbelievable. Phoenix. I think losing
Durant is inevitable at his age, but it's an inopportune
(11:26):
time because they were really rolling, had some great momentum.
There's an identity, there's some unity, and there's some flow
on offense. Tys Jones helps that. Devin Booker looks like
he's really keen to make things happen from a play
making perspective. They need KD back, but they look good.
Golden State, I must say I've got this one wrong.
(11:49):
I like their under for their win title. They're already
a quarter of the way there. They've exploded out of
the gates. Some of the young talents playing well. Podzemski
looks a good player. Steph is still Steph. They're getting
a bit more from, you know, a few of their
guys who maybe haven't had the opportunities, the exposure, the
(12:12):
belief to go and get it done. Coaminga's one of those.
But some of those guys are starting to play well.
I'm happy to die on the hill with this one, though.
I think they'll regress. They might get close to fifty wins,
but I don't think they'll be a threat when it's
all said and done. Oklaoma City they look and feel
every part the best team in the West, and as
(12:33):
we sit here Thursday November fourteen, eighth six pm, they are.
Shay remains an MVP candidate, and even without Holmgren for
the next two months, I think they'll keep winning. They'll
win two and every three without him. But at twenty
ten chat with his two and a half three blocks
(12:56):
per game, the way you can stretch the floor, the
way you can get it bucket down low, he makes
them a championship threat. Gilgis Alexander is their best player,
and look, Jalen Williams might be their second best player,
but Holmgren is a real point of difference for them.
All right. Eastern Conference Cleveland unbeaten from thirteen, say no
(13:18):
more Spider Donovan Mitchell's airborne. We love Darius Garland's game,
he's underrated. And I love what they've done on the road. Yes,
thirteen and ZIP, so of course they're unbeaten on the road,
but I love what they've been able to do, the
consistency they've shown on the road Boston. They've picked up
largely where they left off as the champs. JT and
(13:41):
JB are doing their thing. All Stars. Drew Holliday's got
some upside. He's just cruising along slowly, but we know
he knows how to pick it up when they need it.
Their bench players are playing really, really well. That's probably
been the improvement in this team from last year. But
I guess they're all champs. They're almost all championship players now,
(14:02):
so they're all confident and they're all doing their thing.
Orlando losing Parlo was it really sucked because I think
they could have really got rolling Orlando. But I'll tell
you what they've got a low key, sneaky superstar there
in Franz or Wagner the German. He's a low key
(14:23):
superstar since Boncedo has gone out, and Wagner love to
say his surname has been able to be the number
one man on offense. His numbers have gone through the root.
The New York Knickerbockers. We know now Brunson's the real deal.
But I'll tell you what Carl Towns he's made. I'll
(14:48):
say he's made it a Mari Stoudomai like a rival
in the Big Apple. I think he was forty six
and twelve today in a loss. His numbers have been
through the roof in his past handful of games. I
love his game, and he is doing his dang in
New York, Indiana. It's not sure about Halliburton's early season form.
(15:13):
The sists have been there one night, not the next.
The scoring has been there one night, not the next.
To three point shooting's been there one night, not the next.
They're going along all right, and it was great to
see a kid. I think I've probably told this story
along the way. Johnny fairfy I went and watched him
play for VIC Metro in the Under twenty National Championships
(15:34):
a couple of years ago. Try to recruit him to
the Cats in the AFL. He got himself his first
bucket in the NBA. Nice little steal, breakout jam at
seven points for the Pacers today, he looks like a
nice project for them as a long rangey six foot
nine wing offensive and defensive player. Chicago, speaking of Ozzies
(15:59):
have loved what Josh gid He's been able to bring
to the table. I wish they'd trust him more down
the stretch. Leave him on the floor, particularly at this
point in the season. Don't take him out late in
the game. Good to see Zach Levine back in form.
He's a great player, really talented offensive player. I've always
loved Vosevich's ability to stuff a stat sheet. He does
(16:21):
it with the best of them. I'm not sure this
is a long term success the way the Bulls roster
is currently constructed, but they're good to watch. Atlanta. The
demon of defense lives here Dison Daniels. And I'll tell
you what, as much as I love watching Dyson Daniels
and I haven't loved watching the Atlanta Hawks since Joe Johnson.
(16:44):
Joe was in town. Jalen Johnson is a real nice player.
He's a real nice player. He looks about six ' ten.
He can shoot the rock, he can handle the rock,
he can pass the rock, and he can rebound. He
does a bit of everything. Brooklyn how Ben Ossie Ben.
He looks suited to coming off the bench. I like
(17:06):
him coming off the bench. Had a doesn't assist doing so,
maybe a little bit less hype, a little bit less expectation,
less eyes on him the tempo of the game is established.
He can come out handle the ball when some of
the starters go to the bench. Wonder whether he'd embrace
that role moving forward. Miami Tyler hero. He's trying to be,
(17:30):
as his surname suggests, without Jimmy Butler. But this squad
feels short, even with Jimmy back in the freight. And maybe,
when I say short, probably literally maybe they're just too
small when it comes to modern NBA basketball, with all
these six eight, six nine athletes all over the place, Detroit, finally,
(17:51):
maybe perhaps potentially building something. Cay Cunningham's game is nice.
Love it, do not Isaiah Stewart's antics terrible ejection today,
just scragging and throwing Yarnis onto the compo to the
ground that was an average Charlotte LaMelo ball is on fire.
(18:15):
Everything he throws up it never looks like it's going
to go in in the first half of its trajectory.
In the second half, it looks nothing but cotton. He
cannot miss. He's lacing everything at the moment. But it's
not translating the winds because it rarely ever does in
downtown Charlotte, North Carolina, whether it be NFL or NBA,
(18:38):
the winds ain't coming. Milwaukee, Milwaukee. Are the Bucks? Are
the Bucks discovered? They have? They been found out a
little bit. I know Middleton and Lillard have been out
and are out. But if you allow Yannis to get
his mammoth massive numbers, he had something like fifty nine
(19:00):
twelve and seven or fifty nine fourteen and seven today.
But if you allow him to do that and you
stop the rest, is that the answer? And I'll tell
you what. This awful start for the Bucks will only
make the Jarnis once out. Noises louder and louder and louder. Washington,
Alex the former wild Cad. He's worth following and watching.
(19:23):
He's not setting the world on fire, but he's a talent.
It's blocking a few shots, making a few triples, taking
a lot of triples. Not much else to watch Another
two and eight beginning for the men from DC Philadelphia,
second worst team in the East. It is one thing
I've managed to nail all the way through. Take on
(19:45):
Philly at all costs. They have been nothing but awful
since Ben left town. Not because Ben left town, but
they have been awful since Ben and Joel broke up.
Your ability as an athlete. Your best ability as an athlete,
I should say, is your availability, and Joeel and now
(20:07):
Paul George are not available enough. Take him on Toronto,
the last of our thirty teams to have a look at.
No one expected much from them, and to be frank,
we're not getting much. They're certainly going to be a
contender when the ping pong balls go into the barrels
for the number one overall pick, and hopefully the number
(20:27):
one overall pick is either Canadian or wants to live
in Canada. You're with him, indiffee, All right, there you go.
That's the wrap thirty teams in a snapshot. What's that
twenty minutes and change chat again soon keep following along.
The Fab five in the NFL is going beautifully. Twenty
eight wins, twenty two losses, going okay. The NFL POD's
(20:49):
there each and every week as well. We'll chat again
to talk some NBA hoops in some time
