Speaker 1 (00:11):
Oh yes, welcome to the field from Chile and windy Dallas, Texas,
the United States of America. I've been able to sneak
across along fifteen hour flight Melbourne to Dallas, and I've
been here since last Friday. And yes, I was at
Monday Night football where my Bengals just got the job
(00:33):
done against those Dallas Cowboys twenty seven twenty. In the end,
I saw Joey Burrow lighted up three hundred plus and
three scores, Jamar Chase fourteen catches, one hundred and seventy
seven yards and two touchdowns, including the game winner. And
I saw the Dallas Cowboys stuff it up like only
(00:54):
they can, like only they can. So it's been great
to get over here and experience American culture for the
first time in about five years. The last time I
was here, I was catching up with Chris Scott in
New York City staking my claim to move from the
Crows to the Cats. So it's been a long time
time moves fast, but it's been great to spend almost
(01:18):
a week here in the States. Have been here by myself.
I caught up with some friends at the game. Shout
out to JK for the hookup. At the Cowboys. It
was an amazing night up there in the suite, an
amazing experience there at Cowboys Stadium. But the week of
NFL was huge. I perched up at Moxi's in downtown Dallas,
(01:39):
highly recommended. It's a nice sort of high end sports bar.
They had all the games on five big screens along
the bar. It was magnificent. I hooked into some sushi,
weird choice at a sports bar, but then I got
myself a big hamburger and watched the games all on
the TV at one pm local time, so they started
to we here. Of course, Dallas is an hour behind
(02:02):
the East Coast. I watched Miami get the job done
in overtime against the New Jersey Jets.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
I watched that was a score of gami too.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
Those ozsies more likely who are unfamiliar with score a gamy.
That's when we have an NFL score line, that is
that has happened for the first time ever. So Miami
and New New York the Jets thirty two twenty six.
That's a score of gami, meaning we've never had that
score line ever in the NFL, which is straight up amazing.
(02:35):
Every time I see a score of gamy. I'm fascinated
because with all the games that happen every season, over.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
All these years, we've still got scores.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
That have never happened. It's quite amazing. The Saints did
their thing. I'll tell you what. Even though I was
in Dallas, there are more than enough fans laughing at
the Giants when they had their field goal blocked, which
would have forced ot more in harassment for Big Blue. Unfortunately,
there weren't any Giants fans in the sports bar because
(03:06):
it would have been hilarious. There was a Saints fan
know and he was going completely bond because Kirk Cousins
went back to Minneapolis and it was ugly. It was
ugly through two picks and his replacement, Sam Darnold may
have moved himself into the MVP conversation. Three hundred and
forty seven passing yards, five touchdowns. Jordan Addison caught three
(03:27):
of them, Justin Jefferson caught two of them, and those
two boys had two hundred and sixty five receiving yards
and five touchdowns between them.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
Unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
Philadelphia got the job done against Carolina, but needed a
fair bit of luck to do so. And AJ Brown
and Jalen Hurts have been both real grumpy in the postgame.
They have won nine straight the Eagles, but you wouldn't
know it. Sakwon Barkley one hundred and twenty four yards
on the ground. The Steelers got the job done against
the Browns after losing to them only a few weeks go.
(04:00):
Tampa beat Vegas. The Jags beat Tennessee in the afternoon
slot slate, I should say what about the Rams and
the Bills? Stafford and Josh Allen went berserk. Allen, even
in a loss, probably locked down. He's made an MVP
three hundred and forty two passyards and three passing touchdowns,
(04:22):
maybe the pass touchdown of the season. He also had
eighty two rush yards on ten carries and another hat
trick of touchdowns. So four hundred and twenty four total
yards for Allen and six touchdowns. And they lost and
the reason they lost. Stafford had three twenty and two.
Coran Williams had eighty seven and two on the ground.
(04:44):
Pookin Nakua had one hundred and sixty two yards and
two scores, one rushing, one receiving, and Cooper Cup also
scored a touchdown. The Bills dropped to ten and three
in the Rams, stay alive in the seven and six.
At seven and six, I should say, in the wide
open West nineers reminded a few thirty eight thirty and
they ham at Chicago. Sunday Night football was interesting as well.
(05:08):
I went to the ice hockey the Dallas Stars and
Calgary Flames. The Stars got it done six to two, FYI,
but I rushed home to catch the end of Sunday
Night Football and Kansas City made the Great Escape for
the tenth time nineteen seventeen. They got the joink inside
the uprights from Matt Wright, not the former Crow and
(05:30):
the former Blue, the third string for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
Kansas City gets to twelve.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
And one and clinch a ninth nine consecutive AFC West titles, if.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
You don't mind.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
And then it was Monday, Monday Night Football here in Dallas.
The Bengals fans came out in force. Who Day Nation
was here in Forest were all over the place, particularly
once I got out to the stadium. I made sure
to get out there about four hours before the game,
taking the whole experience.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
There were Cowboys fans everywhere.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
Of course, I saw Jerry Jones arrive and he's helicopter.
But the Bengals fans were out in force and they
were handsomely rewarded.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
They needed some.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
Luck, and the Cowboys made a fatal error on a
blocked kick or blocked punt, but Joey Burrow made him
pay Burrow to Chase is as money as it gets
in the NFL. As money as it gets in the NFL.
The Fab five just quickly now it's an abbreviated podcast,
(06:35):
of course, because I'm just talking into a phone. I
didn't bring my podcast equipment. But the Fab five a
two and three week unfortunately. So the ones that were
successful for us were Seattle and Arizona plus forty four
and a half points.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
That was quite comfortable.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
They had about thirty four at the half from memory
and Minnesota minus four and a half against the Falcons.
That was also comfortable, particularly in that fourth quarter the
Lions way back when minus three and a half against
the Packers, I did tell you to hunt for two
and a half. We didn't get at three and a
half was the line, and of course they won by three.
(07:14):
The Bills minus four and a half. They just couldn't
keep pace with the Rams who put up forty four
points and Cincinnati and Dallas. I probably forced this one somewhat,
but I did feel good about the over in the
game plus forty nine and a half. The total ended
at forty seven. So this week, after a two and
three week last week, our first losing week for quite
some time, we're forty and thirty on the season. Now
(07:38):
I'm going to take the Bengals minus five and a
half at Tennessee. Will Levis has got a shoulder injury.
The Titans have been awful. The Bengals covered against the Cowboys.
I feel like they've got some momentum finally rolling. So
the Bengals minus five and a half at Tennessee. It's
a theme of the week, teams on the road. Kansas
City finally to cover as a favorite, surely minus four
(08:00):
and a half at Cleveland.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Jamis Winston scares me.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
A little bit, but I think this will be a
low scoring game, so you might want to take the under.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
I think the Chiefs will get the job done by.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
A touchdown, so we'll take Kansas City minus four and
a half at Cleveland, Houston and Miami. Now this game's inside.
I don't know whether it's in Miami or in Houston.
I just need to go back and check either way,
both teams play well inside.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
For Houston in great weather.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
From Miami, you'd expect plus forty six and a half
points in that game. Will take the over the Bills
and the Lines. This is going to be a fun one.
This might be the highest title of the season. And
I'm taking the over Buffalo and Detroit over fifty three
and a half points. This game is in Detroit, it
is inside, and Atlanta at minus four and a half
at Las Vegas. I think this is a great spot
(08:47):
for Kirk Cousins to get some confidence back, to throw
some touchdowns inside at Vegas at Allegiance Stadium against who
knows who played quarterback for Vegas.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
So that's the summary for the week.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
The Bengals minus five and a half, Kansas City minus
four and a half, Atlanta minus four and a half,
the Bills and Lines over, and the Texans and Miami over.
That's the way we're playing the Fab five. We're forty
and thirty on the year. What about in the NBA?
What about what about Orlando? The oblique injuries so they
(09:20):
lost Parlo Bencherro for six weeks, with an oblique tear.
Now the player who's stepped up in his absence, Franz Wagner.
He's gone with an oblique injury as well, and he'll
be at least four weeks away. So the Magic are
going to have to hang tough without their best two
players and two superstars of the competition.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
Joelo and Beads back.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
Finally, he missed the first nine games of the season,
had a suspension to deal with, but had a knee issue,
played four games and then has missed about three weeks since.
He said he was depressed trying to overcome the issue.
I bet your Sixers fans feel the same way. Chris
Paul Cpe. He's now CP two past Jason Kidd for
(10:04):
number two all time in NBA history for assists. He
just keeps turning up. He just keeps throwing lobs to
great big men. Victor Wembayama was the man who received
was on the receiving end of his most recent record
breaking assist. He also locked his six hundredth ten or
more assist game. Unbelievable. Only John Stockton has got more,
(10:27):
and he did that eight hundred and sixty three times.
I'm here on a Tuesday here in Dallas. You probably
listened to this after the fact that NBA Cup Quarterfinals
Dallas and Oklahoma City, and you know what, the games
in Oklahoma City.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
I'm absolutely devastated.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
Ok See versus Dallas in Dallas would be the hottest
ticket in town. I would be there with Balsum, but
unfortunately I'll have to watch it on TV. Then it's
Houston and Golden State out west in the East, the
Bucks and Magic. That's actually the early game here here
in Dallas, six o'clock tip off, So I'm going to
(11:03):
get down to the steam room and then get back
for the Bucks and the Magic, of course shorthanded without
Franz Wagner. And then tomorrow night you've got the Knicks
and the Hawks. I'll be about to board my flight
back to Australia. But I'll tell you what, looking forward
to this NBA Cup. It's actually quite good the NBA Cup.
I know there's a few knockers for it, and the
courts look a bit funky and these sorts of things,
(11:25):
but I don't mind it. I don't mind it at all.
And finally, before I get out of here, Jimmy Butler
seems to be on the trade table. Now the trade
market is starting to warm up. Brandon Ingram's name has
been thrown ups on, Williamson's name has been thrown up,
but Jimmy Butler's name is certainly the first to emerge
and the first to have real substance about it. The
(11:46):
only tricky part is now Butler's seemingly got some interest
in the teams from Texas, Houston and Dallas in particular.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
But Butler has.
Speaker 1 (11:57):
A player option, meaning his contract expire at the end
of this season, but it's got an option for next year,
which is his option, not the team's option. So he
can either take that last year of his contact at
about fifty million dollars, or he can decline that and
become a free agent. Now he's telling people, or reportedly
as told teams, he's going to decline that option. Imagine
(12:20):
knocking back fifty million dollars and look to be a
free agent, become a free agent. Well, any team trying
to trade for him that, I'm not sure why you
would because you're likely or most likely, to lose him
a few months later in free agency. So he's not
worth much from a trading perspective, because you have no
(12:41):
guarantee of keeping him, but he is going to help teams.
He'd certainly help Houston, he'd certainly help Dallas. He'd certainly
help a Golden State who are in the market for
a star as well. So Jimmy Butler the first name
to pop up when it comes to NBA trades, and
we know that that sp and that market gets.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
Real busy, real quick.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
Anyway, it's top us three in the afternoon here on
a Tuesday in downtown Dallas.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
I need to get down to the steam room. I
need to get back, I need to get changed.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
I need to get across the road to Moxies because
six pm tip off, We've got the Magic and the
Bucks and then the late game is the Thunder and
the Mavericks live in Oklahoma City.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
That game's at half past eight local. Tom can't wait.
Speaker 1 (13:25):
Make sure you check out the Fab five video later
in the week forty and thirty on the season. Need
to get back to another winning week. Otherwise, it's been
a great week in Dallas. I loved Monday night football,
but I'm looking forward to getting home, seeing the kids
and the lovely Hannah, of course, but more importantly getting
back to these five am alarms. Who could go without
(13:46):
the five am alarm?
Speaker 2 (13:48):
To watch some football? So I'll jump on a flight.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
It'll take me about sixteen seven eight hours Dallas to
La La to Melbourne.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
Then I'm home.
Speaker 1 (13:55):
Thanks for listening and abbreviated version A different version, maybe
not quite the audio quality you used to but thanks
for sticking by us either way.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
My name's j J. I'll catch you later
