Speaker 2 (00:30):
I've done much, but yeah I'm not. I'll big get
and what I want. It don't matter where that goes.
This is the pickup. Well, it's almost the weekend.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
Everyone, you're listening to the Pickup with Britt Hockley and
Laura Burn.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Oh, I am straight out here. I'm very excited.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
I love you guys, I love everyone. But I'm heading
to the Gold cost. It's all Britton's been saying. She's like,
we need to get through the show quickly. I'm like,
it does end at for don't leave anything after. It's
my birthday celebration weekend, so I'm going up to see
my little baby niece. Like that's the thing that I
wanted to do for my birthday.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
It's very sweet.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
You are Auntie goals, but also like you know, you
think about the day when you're in your twenties and
you're going out getting turned Now You're like, I'm going
to go to.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
The gold colost to see a one year old.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
I did have a moment where I was like, wow,
that's that was a choice, Like I could go out
a good party, could do anything good, go.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
To a concert.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
Well you know what you missed out on last night's concert,
Alex Warren.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
Oh it was good? How was it?

Speaker 4 (01:25):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:25):
We left it about eight fiscause my daughter did not
make it through. I took I took my daughter Marley
to her first ever concert and it was great, but.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
She was very tight. Did she love it? Yeah she did.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
She was so obsessed. But it is actually something that
we're talking about on the show. We're talking about the
different ways that gen Z's, not that my daughter is
a gen Z she's sick, but the way that gen
Z's and millennials show up at concerts these days because
times have changed. Everyone we're talking about the next it's
a pick up on kiss Britt.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
When was the last time you went to a concert? Oh?
Tee Swizzy? Yet? No, No, you went to du Aleipa and.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
Yeah, I think I know what you're gonna say.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
What am I going to say? Are we talking about
leaving early? Well? Did you? Because I always okay, how
early do you leave from a concert.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
I leave early enough that there is no battle to
get out, like I'm significantly like a couple of songs,
which means I probably miss a song or two and
I miss the OnCore and don't come for me. I
know that's bad, but I could think of nothing worse
than being in like that swarm of people that can't
walk and can't move in a fighting for puppy transport.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
So I always like make my beeline.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
But it is a question, isn't it, Because there are
two types of people. There are the people that will
stay for the on core. They will chant, they will
stamp their feet until the very last, until like the
lights have been turned on.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
It's so evident that no one is coming back out
so here it is dragged. They will stay there. And
then there's the people that are like, it's three.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
Songs, shy, I'm gonna get out of here because I
don't want to hit the rush right.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
So we left early.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
Last night we went to Alex Warren with my daughter
and we left early. But that's because she's six and
she was very tired, and a cranky six year old
at a concert is not no. I don't recommend it. Actually,
I reckon probably wait until kids are ten six is
a bit young fair, let'son learn. But we talked about
this a couple of weeks ago. So we were talking
about on the show, you guys might remember millennials and
like things that we used to do back in the day,

(03:12):
like going out to the club, wearing tiny dresses, dancing
in high heel shoes, and how gen ZEDs now will
wear baggy pants, they will wear joggers. Would never you
know what, They're not even drinking. A lot of them
are alcohol free. It's just a different time. It's a
time that's based on wellness. It's a time that's based
on eight hours sleep, and it's also based on wearing watches,
the track everything. So it turns out that apparently, brit

(03:34):
You are indeed more like a gen z because gen
ZEDs are more inclined to leave a concert early because
they want to prioritize their wellness, prioritize their sleep, and
a millennial is more inclined to be the person who's
there holding on to the very end with the lights on,
because we want to suck every second out of that
moment of enjoyment at the concert.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
So interesting, because well, no, it is when I think
about it, I actually went to an extreme. I'm going
to tell you I was embarrassing. But there are a
few people that I would never leave early. For example,
Taylor Swift, I couldn't possibly have slept if I went
home and she did some surprise songs like I was
there to the end.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
For that, I will do it one hundred times over.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
But for example, when it's someone then like I'm keen
to see and it's fun and I'm loving it, but
I'm not obsessed with them. So for Jua Lipa, I
had googled her set list and I have the whole list,
so I know exactly how much I'm missing out on
and what I'm missing out on. And that's when I
make the decision of how many songs I can leave early.
And it's brilliant because I was like, oh, I didn't

(04:35):
actually know the last song very well, didn't care for it,
knew that I could get out quicker, and so I did.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
I'm not the most grandparent thing I've ever heard you say.
I'm an old song that the only reason why you
googled the set list is to know that you're don't
miss out on anything, and you could, in fact.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
Leave, but you can't do that with Taylor because sometimes
Taylor puts surprise songs in No.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
But do you know what I was I was reading this,
I was writ so there's an article that was written
about how millennials will hold on to the very end,
stay there and suck every inch out of that concert.
And the reason why is because half of them are moms.
They're just they're so thrilled to get a night off
one hundred percent. I don't mind if they get stuck
in the car bar for an hour and a half.
They're just happy to be out of their own home.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
Do you know, Oh, you just got me excited. Do
you know who's coming here soon? One of my favorite artists,
Lewis Capaldi. Lewis Capaldi, He's coming to Australia and I'm
putting this out to the universe now because he's going
to sell out like a hotcake.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
So I need to get those two guys. Who are
you putting it out to the universe? But I or
Warner's music or who was listening, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
But he is someone else that I would never dream
of leaving early like I am locked and loaded.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
Into that I mean, normally I would say I'm just
past the point in my life where i want.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
A late night.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
I want to wake up in the morning and feel fresh.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
But the last concert you went to, remember you wet
your pants and I went down into.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
Your baby did I went to blink one. I ate
when I pissed myself.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
I'd believing to Laura, I'd believe right away.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Now everybody parents around the country strapping.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
We have made it to the end.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
We have finally come to the close of bookweek, and
thank the Lord, you say.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
This, Okay, I'm the one that had to come up with.

Speaker 1 (06:08):
A different outfit every day for Lola this week, because
hats off to you and it well, school and preschool
are very different. If your kids go to school, they
usually have a book day. If your kids go to
preschool and kids are gone on all different days, they're
dressing up every day. So we've had a lot of
outfits this week. But Lola, my four year old, really
went out on a questionable high. Questionable because she didn't

(06:30):
go with a kid's book, but also a high because
I kind of love the little inner fashionista that is
my Lola. So she woke up this morning and she
was supposed to go as an astronaut. It had been planned.
We had my first Planet book out, she was ready.
We really sat on the side of the bed and
then we had a full blown four year old meltdown
because she had a change of mind. Recently, she's become

(06:52):
quite in love with another book that she's been going
to bed with every night. It's just not particularly age appropriate.
So we've spoken about Fashion Critical before on this show.
Fashion Critical. She is an anomally. I was about to say,
but she's anonymous. She's a fashion critic who has amassed
such a following on by critiquing celebrities fashion choice.

Speaker 3 (07:10):
She has critiqued us many times over the year.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
Given us a serve from time to time. She's also
sometimes very complimentary. But recently she just brought out a book.
It's called Fashion Critical. Red Carpet Looks Lols from an
Undercover Fashion Critic. Now, this book has been sitting in
Lola's bed for the past week and a half. She
looks at it every day. She's quite obsessed with some
of the pages. And today she woke up and decided
that was the book she was taking to Book Week,

(07:34):
and she put together her best look that she could
possibly do.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
Do you know what it's? First of all, I was like,
it's surprising that she's chosen that book and she's become
obsessed with it, But is it actually that surprising.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
It's a book of women dressed up in beautiful dresses
and outfits, Like I imagine it's actually quite a colorful,
addictive kind of a book for a four.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
Or five year right.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
Yeah, well, and she's also a fashion queen. What we
do have she wears Bundy's on her head.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
She does.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
We have the fashion critical here because we thought, what
are the better way of ending the week after a
week of book week costumes than to have Fashion Critical
herself a five critique my daughter's book outfit.

Speaker 4 (08:10):
Welcome to the show, ladies. This is a career high
for me. I've reached Nirvana.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
I know you've critiqued Hardy Klawm and like Beyonce and
some of the real big stars.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
Also pretty Hocoly Lola Bet. Really I think she.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
Should be up there, she should have featured.

Speaker 4 (08:24):
She's best on ground and I won't hear a bad
word said against her. Okay, she's picked a great, a
beautiful pink ChIL dress. It's gorgeous. She's got a lovely
pink park on. It matches dress perfectly great. But what
I love about this is the detail she's painted her
nails red. The red matches the cover of the book
she did. She has received no toes violation, her toes
of cupboard. She's got gorgeous little glittery Mary Jane. Her

(08:46):
hair's done beautifully. The girl's got talent. I can see it.
You can see it. All of Australia can see it.
And I'm extremely impressed and I look forward to watching
her fashion evolution over the years.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
So fashion critical.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
What would you love to see next from Lola look?

Speaker 4 (09:02):
I would love to see a gala look.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
I think she's gone with.

Speaker 4 (09:06):
Yeah, she's gone with it, you know, an age appropriate
sort of evening look. It's very cute at very early.
I'd like to see something quite avant garde, something quite
out there, a bit of a more artistic sort of
take on fashion. So if you could brief her on that,
I look forward to to saying that, that would be lovely.

Speaker 3 (09:22):
She's quite like an accessorizer. How do you feel about
I mean, she's in this trend of like she likes
to put underwear on her head like that's her accessory,
and for some.

Speaker 2 (09:30):
Boundaries she doesn't want to take it off.

Speaker 3 (09:32):
She wants to go for a walk and the undies
are over ahead her ears comeing out like little Koala's.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
What do you think about that?

Speaker 4 (09:38):
Do you know what?

Speaker 2 (09:39):
You know?

Speaker 4 (09:40):
Trends are trends and that's not no no, Well, I
was going to say, I don't really care for trends,
but you know, true style is choosing something that perhaps
other people don't understand, and it doesn't mean it's not stylish.
It doesn't mean she's not an artist. You know, she's
a visionary And as I said, I won't hear a

(10:02):
bad word said against her or her style choices. And
if she's wearing underwear on her head, then I urge
you to look to the catwalks of Milan and Parentcy
this summer because I can guarantee you we're going to
see that on the catwalks.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
I tell you fashion critical.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
We went to Cans recently and she spent the entire
day wearing fish net gloves and a pair of fluffy
ear musks.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
I love it. You live your best life, girlfriend.

Speaker 1 (10:26):
Can I just ask, though, did you ever envisit your
new book as being a kid's book.

Speaker 4 (10:30):
Honestly, I didn't, I really really didn't. And to be fair,
it's not out to October, so it's not available to
the common people yet they can pre order it. But
you received was not common copy.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
We got an advance of power. She didn't even realize
how special she was.

Speaker 4 (10:44):
She's got one of only maybe thirty copies in circulation
at the moment.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
She will be thrilled.

Speaker 4 (10:49):
Yeah, so perhaps next book week, maybe we'll see more.
But this is definitely the first. It's not a children's book.
But you're absolutely right, Britt. It is full of beautiful,
colorful pictures and actually, why not? I don't think I've
dropped the F bomb that many times, isn't it.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
I hope? I actually haven't read.

Speaker 4 (11:08):
The words say it's all about the pictures. It's all
about the pictures.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
Thank god she can't read it anyway. Fashion Critical always
a pleasure. Thanks for joining us, and good luck.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
With the book.

Speaker 4 (11:17):
Thank you, love, thank you, thanks much.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
Oh that's so good.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
Well I can't wait for like, I don't know, what
are you In fifteen years we can revisit this and
get Fashion Critical to be literally critiquing Lulu on the runway.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
I think in fifteen years, no, what will it be
a little bit.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
Longer than that? She be twenteen years and I'll be
rolling these.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
Photos out for a twenty first birthday. That's what's going
to be happening.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
And it's time for our little wins of the week.
We don't want the big stuff.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
We want to know what is that small thing that
you are celebrating and you may just win yourself five
hundred dollars to spend at Chemists warehouse.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
Now we have three people, We're going to suss out
what their little wins are and then we're going to
pick a winner at the end. That's how it works,
every week of it. This could be someone's first time listening.
They might need to know the instructions. I'm glad we
break it out all right.

Speaker 1 (11:59):
Number one Stacy, Stacy, what was sing hi a little winn.

Speaker 4 (12:03):
Of the week?

Speaker 5 (12:05):
Well, I sent my husband to Bunnings and he comes
back with a random item. He brought back a bday,
so he thinks we're going to save money on toilet paper.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
That is the most band thing I've ever heard. You
asked him to go and pick up something.

Speaker 3 (12:20):
He came home with a B day, But that's not
a day, not a B day, a b da.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
What's the different? It's a bidet the day. What's a
B day? Then it does not pronouncing it, it doesn't exist.

Speaker 3 (12:32):
I'm also confused how he thinks you don't replace the
toilet paper with a bidet.

Speaker 5 (12:37):
I know it's so weird and random, but it's just
I know, a little wind Well.

Speaker 1 (12:42):
I think you kind of reduce the toilet paper situation
because you're washing it all off first and then you're
just pat drying.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
So he does have a theory, but I'd love to
know how much. I'm pretty such reverse. I think you
wipe and then you wash it.

Speaker 1 (12:54):
The end, Okay to do a whole break around that.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
I think it's reverse. All right, thanks Jaysy, stick around Nat.
What is your little winn of the week?

Speaker 6 (13:08):
He else, So my little winnie is. I was cleaning
out my bunny's little cage and I noticed that he
had dug a hole near the fence. He went down there,
and I was like, oh crap, no, no, no, don't
go down there because on the other side of the road.
So I tried to like get some dirt and just
like put it there so he could come back out,
like scaring him so he could come back out dinner work,

(13:29):
got the leaf blower him up, him away, and then
I was like, oh my god, crap, I've literally buried
him alive. Get on chat DPT. I'm like, can you
accidentally bury your bunny alive? And they're like, yes, you can.
And I went to bed that night was.

Speaker 7 (13:49):
So upset, like what am I going to tell the kids?

Speaker 6 (13:51):
And then in the morning I opened the blinds, looked
outside in my bunny was just sitting there on the grass.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
The terminator quite the roller. Yeah wow started Okay, so
you bunny thought didn't die. I'm so glad that you
didn't kill your own rabbit. Literally, that's a very weird.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
All right, Look stick around page. What is your little
wind of the week.

Speaker 7 (14:15):
My win this week is finally mastering the pork belly
crackle ah, like.

Speaker 1 (14:21):
Getting it real crunchy on top or Okay, how many
goes has this taken?

Speaker 2 (14:25):
You?

Speaker 3 (14:26):
Look?

Speaker 7 (14:26):
Honestly, I think about six months of trying, like putting
it in the ovens, and then I finally gave in
to TikTok and into the air fryer.

Speaker 2 (14:35):
Wow, there you go, Britain.

Speaker 3 (14:37):
Airfire just got me going in I air fry everything.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
There is nothing that can't like air fry. For president,
I would.

Speaker 7 (14:43):
Say, I come to agree. And it nailed the pork belly.
So that's a weird all right.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
Let's just take a hot second, Britt out of Stacy,
the buried alive rabbit or the pork belly?

Speaker 2 (14:55):
Am I really like to pick what I want?

Speaker 1 (14:56):
Yeah, you can pick whatever you want. Okay, this is
your one, this is your week. And for everyone who
doesn't win, you can blame Britt.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
Yeah, okay, I'm going to go the buried a live rabbit.

Speaker 1 (15:07):
Yeah, I have won yourself five hundred dollars suspend a
chemist were because you didn't very.

Speaker 2 (15:13):
Alive your rabbit.

Speaker 7 (15:15):
Thanks so much.

Speaker 6 (15:17):
I'm good luck Laura with your baby.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
Oh thanks, now what about me? Good luck when I.

Speaker 1 (15:26):
Oh no, congrats. I'm also very happy you didn't kill
your own rabbit. That would have been a disaster. Try
and explain that one to the kids. Well, guys, look,
that is it from us today.
