Speaker 4 (02:32):
Gabby Bernstein, Welcome to the Rise and Conquer Podcast.

Speaker 5 (02:37):
Thanks Mama Sita, thanks for having me.

Speaker 4 (02:40):
I am so excited you're here. I have been a
big fan of you and your work for a very
long time, and your book The Universe Has My Back
was kind of the book that got me into self
development and kind of got me into the manifesting.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
World world and everything like that.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
So it feels very surreal being in front of you
here on us, and I just want to say thank
you so much.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
For being who you are in spreading everything that you do.

Speaker 5 (03:10):
Thank you. My cat is crawling the door right now
as we speak. She's scaling the door. So it's really
nice to be with you. And thank you for sharing
your experience of the book. I'm so glad it served
you in that way.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
So for anyone who's not familiar with you and your story,
could you just give us a bit of a backstory
of who you are and how you kind of started
in this world.

Speaker 5 (03:34):
So for the past twenty years, I have been working
as a spiritual teacher and an author and a motivational speaker.
But prior to that, I was young twenty something or really,
I mean I was from a kid. I was brought
up with a very strong spiritual foundation. My mother used
to bring me to visit the Ashrums and I was

(03:54):
taught to meditate, and I was named by the gurus.
And then I turned my back on that when I
was in my my high school years in my twenties,
where I just started looking for my source of security
and happiness outside of myself and became a young entrepreneur.
I started my first business at twenty I was representing
nightclubs in New York City as a publicist. I kind

(04:17):
of got really deeply into that party scene, as you
can imagine, and hit a big rock bottom by the
time I was twenty five years old. When I hit
that bottom, it was clear that the addiction I'd gotten
myself into, drug addiction alcoholism was going to either take

(04:38):
my life or redirect my life if I chose to
get sober. And on October second of two thousand and five,
now almost twenty years I made the decision to get
clean and sober, and that decision was the redirect for me.
That was the real shift in my sobriety. I started
speaking very openly about my spiritual foundation and my spiritual

(04:58):
faith and my spiritual can and I started teaching at
twenty five through on some heels, got a microphone and
would give talks on spirituality, what that meant to me
and what it was doing to heal me and heal
my recovery. And I've been a devotional spiritual student for
the past twenty years, a devotional spiritual teacher and a

(05:21):
woman who's very, very committed to personal development. And as
a result of that, I've been able to support and
serve a lot of souls as a result. Because I've
been able to tell the truth, I've been able to
teach through my words. I've been able to write ten
books in fourteen years. I've been able to give people
the gifts of these messages just like you've expressed here.
But most importantly, I've inspired folks to do the work

(05:44):
for themselves. You know, I wrote a book called You
Are the Guru, and that was an important one because
people will say, oh, Gabby, You've changed my life, and
I'm like, no, I did not. I did not. I
told you a story, gave you some suggestions, You did
the work, and you changed life. You are the Guru,
and so that, to me is really important to emphasize.

Speaker 6 (06:08):
I love that so much. And I also love that book.

Speaker 4 (06:11):
I would love to know just from your personal or
your self awareness of like Gabby when you know she
was twenty five, just starting to spiritual world, obviously having
that remembering of who she was, what she grew up with,
how she was applying it to getting sober, what would

(06:32):
you say is the difference? And from Gabby then to
Gabby now, what would you say is the quantum leap.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
The difference there apart from life experience obviously.

Speaker 5 (06:43):
I mean, there's not that much that's the same. I've
really unburdened a lot of who I thought I needed
to be to become who I really am, and so
the truth of who I am now was always inside
of me, but there so many blocks to that presence
of self inside. And so now twenty years later, I'm

(07:05):
back in self. I'm not burdened by these protection mechanisms
and these stories and these beliefs of inadequacy or having
to prove myself or having to fight for what I
believe or control everything in my life. All that's been
very worked through, not completely gone, but worked through. And
so who I am today is very, very different than

(07:27):
who I was twenty years ago, vastly different. But the
mission and the intention was the same. Mission to heal myself,
to help heal others through my healing, to feel good,
all that was the same.

Speaker 4 (07:44):
And also with you showing up being twenty five, just
getting out of the club scene, you know, doing business
for maybe you know, different reasons that you do business now,
imagine that Gabby back then may have felt some imposter syndrome,
some you.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
Know who am I to be doing this? Who am
I to be teaching on this?

Speaker 4 (08:09):
And I find in my community that's you know, something
I get is, oh, I will I want to speak
on this or I want to do this, but I'm
not an expert. I'm not I haven't finished yet, And
I would love to know kind of because that's huge
for you to step on stage and speak on your spirituality,
being so close to that previous world. What kind of

(08:33):
made you make that move? And you also like so
proud of yourself for doing that even at the beginning.

Speaker 5 (08:40):
I never had impastor syndrome really at all ever, because
I've always taught from where I was in the moment.
And so if I was speaking my truth about Okay,
this is what I know to be true today, and
this is the truth of all the fucked up shit
that I'm doing that's making me, you know, disconnected, and
this now I'm getting reconnected, then I didn't have to

(09:03):
feel like an imposter because I was right where I
needed to be. I was right where I was. And
so that's my advice to the listener who's like, well
I didn't get there yet or whatever, it's like, well,
just be where you are, offer and serve and show
up and work from where you are. Be the best
you can be in this moment. Don't try to be
somewhere else.

Speaker 4 (09:23):
And I think also realizing that, for example, there will
be someone or a group of people who, because you're
only two steps ahead of them, there will resonate so
much more with you and your message, and you'll serve
them in a different way.

Speaker 5 (09:38):
And yes, yes, that's an important message, right, because you know,
we meet people where we are. Right when I was
twenty five and I was in my heels and I was,
you know, in the in these like settings where I
was giving my talks, the audience was twenty five year
old women in their you know, in their after work outfits,
you know, like coming to hear me speak. It was

(10:01):
the people that were resonating with me, were in the
same vibration was what I was in. And so trust
that you speak to your acchoir. Yeah, and trust that
your truth will attract your tribe.

Speaker 4 (10:15):
One other thing I'd love to ask before I get
into your new book, which I've absolutely loved, is when
you were evolving from that community and evolving and books
and that sort of thing, did you allow that natural
evolution or was there ever resistance to allowing yourself to
that next level.

Speaker 5 (10:36):
No, I've always allowed the evolution. There might have been
times where I might have been pushing it, but that
never works. You know that pushing of the evolution doesn't
really work. So I believe I've always really allowed it.
Truly beautiful.

Speaker 7 (10:54):
Yeah, whats something recently that you have consciously create manifested
in your life that you know you've used all the
tools and the teachings that you show everyone else that
you've been like, this is a really cool moment.

Speaker 5 (11:10):
Like four hundred thousand things in the last three days.

Speaker 8 (11:14):
Give us ample.

Speaker 5 (11:14):
I'm doing this in my app. I have this Trust
the Universe challenge in my app. But it's also like
you can take it even if you're not a member
of the app. And it's like, this is a twenty
one day Trust the Universe challenge and I'm on day
eight and day eight is like about spiritual proof and
really writing down all your spiritual proof that the universe
is listening. And in the last seven days of doing
this challenge, I've had such rapid manifestations that have been

(11:39):
so unbelievable, like effortless manifesting from you know, just like
the exact perfect parking spot in front of my apartment,
to like the upgrade in the hotel, to the you know,
sitting down in somebody being like I'm going to pay
you a crazy amount of money just to show up
at this this interview, you know what I mean, Like
like those kinds of things, and then like this one
TV placement that my chief of staff and I were pitching,

(11:59):
just sort of casual to get and then like the
day today comes in, it's like spiritual proof day, and
they're like, yep, we're here, and that spiritual proof is
a representation of the bigger vision that I have, which
is this effortless support for the work that I do.
And so all these moments of support, even the parking
spot or the upgrade or the the let me pay

(12:19):
you to come and do something you would have done
for free, you know what I mean, Like these things
are really just a reflection from the universe that Yep,
indeed you are supported. And so that's that's I'm not
like I'm not sitting here being like I'm manifesting cash.
Like I'm trying to manifest support, and that support is
coming at me tenfold it's effortless because I've tuned back in. Yeah,

(12:42):
I'm like literally doing my own challenge every day, like
striking off the streak. It works. Maybe that is my favorite.
It's not so much today, it's about the manifestations. It's
about like my my going into it. My desire was
to have the universe remind me, be reminded of the
universe really has my back, the reminded that I'm supported,
and these moments of spiritual proof are to me representative

(13:05):
of that support.

Speaker 6 (13:06):
I love that.

Speaker 4 (13:07):
My favorite days are when I'm really tuned in and
on the frequency and I go, Universe, show me how
good it can be, Like, show me that it can
be better than I could have imagined, because I find
I can limit myself when I try and be like,
oh I want this, et cetera, and yeah, things will
come in that I'm just like like, I know this works.

(13:29):
I teach this work, but every time I'm like, wow,
I got to.

Speaker 5 (13:34):
Get to the Gabby coaching apps so you can stay
in it all the time, right, so that I can
be your little coach in your pocket. You can do
the twenty one day challenge and keep you in that
because we need you I need you always in it, right,
It's good.

Speaker 4 (13:46):
Yeah. Getting into the frequency is like, that's the hack,
there isn't it.

Speaker 5 (13:52):
Staying in the frequency, you don't have any trouble getting in,
You don't have any trouble.

Speaker 6 (13:55):
Yeah, staying in.

Speaker 5 (13:56):
Yeah, you're rocketed. Your rocketed.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
So your brand new BILK self help so exciting.

Speaker 4 (14:07):
I was lucky enough to receive earlier copy of this,
so I just absolutely consumed it and I was obsessed
with it.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
First of all, congratulations, I don't know.

Speaker 4 (14:18):
How you just keep whipping out these books and then
being the next one better. Can you tell us a
little bit about why you wanted to write this book?

Speaker 2 (14:26):
What was the inspiration.

Speaker 5 (14:28):
I've been doing this therapy for a decade with different
therapists called Internal Family Systems Therapy, and it had such
a profound impact on my life that I befriended the founder,
had them on my podcast, who became good friends, and
then I went on to do the training. So it
was one of the last people to be able to
get trained in the model that wasn't a licensed therapist,
and so I'm level two trained in IFS therapy as

(14:50):
a practitioner, not as a therapist, and going through that
training was very clear to me that one of the
reasons I wanted to go through it was that I
could democratize it so that I could make it a
self help practice so they could give it to people.
And I didn't know at first that it would be
in a book, but I had a sentence that it
would be. Upon completing the training, it was very clear
to me that I wanted to write a book about it.

(15:10):
So I sold a book that said, Okay, this is
going to be my way of carrying this IFS message
to the world. With the blessing of Richard Schwartz, the
founder of IFS, I've done that. This book is a
four step self help practice based on the principles of
a therapy called internal Family Systems and IFS. Internal Family
Systems is about how we have all these inner parts

(15:32):
of ourselves, these aspects of ourselves that are protection mechanisms,
and they're called protector parts of us. It's like a
world of little children inside of us that are constantly
trying to protect us from having to feel really really
extreme feelings from our childhood. So as kids, we have
these very extreme moments of trauma, less extreme, even small
t trauma, but we'd become burdened with the belief that

(15:54):
we're inadequate or unlovable, or not good enough, or in
terror or not safe, and we don't have the resources
to move through those moments as children, And so what
happens is we start to protect ourselves from those big
feelings very quickly at a young age. So if you
learned that you were stupid as a kid, or because
you had like a learning disability or something, maybe you
start to build up the protection mechanism that I have

(16:15):
to check out, you know, or I have to be
a perfectionist to feel like I'm good enough, And so
there you are perfecting everything for the rest of your life.
Or if you were brought up with a lot of
attachment breach and you didn't feel like you were safe,
then maybe you're controlling everything. This was my experience. I
want to control everything to feel safe. Right, you have
these beliefs and these patterns that carry on throughout your life,

(16:36):
and this therapy and then the self help practice that
I've created based on this therapy is about compassionately and
curious with curiosity, connecting to these protection mechanisms and helping
them relax and reconnecting them to yourself, to your resourced
inner healer inside, and it works. It's four steps and

(16:59):
I recommend or steps for one minute two minutes a day,
and it's the subtitle is this is your chance to
change your life.

Speaker 4 (17:05):
And so for someone who they're like, okay, cool, I
want to change my life, but maybe they don't have
the self awareness of you know, the limiting beliefs, the
I don't know what's blocking me. What would you kind
of tell that person of like that very first step
to start.

Speaker 5 (17:25):
And asks them if they have a pattern or behavior
that they feel like they're that might be holding them back,
or if they even have a feeling like an anxiety
or a fear that feels like it's holding them back,
or to ask them what storyline they have on repeat right?
Or I might ask them what is it that you
want to attract into your life? And then the second
question would be, well, what's blocking it? What belief is

(17:47):
blocking it? Those are some inroads into recognizing the protector parts.

Speaker 4 (17:52):
And could we do a little example me and you now,
because I find my community does really well with like,
give me an example, Georgie, one of my biggest patterns
is you can't actually see right now, but I'm heavily pregnant.

Speaker 5 (18:09):
Look at you, you look so beautiful.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
Thank you, second baby.

Speaker 4 (18:14):
I have a three year old group and what I'm
learning in so with my first pregnancy, I went back
to work quite quickly because my husband is an incredible.

Speaker 2 (18:24):
Stay at home dad, so it was, you know, always
the plan.

Speaker 4 (18:27):
But with this pregnancy, I'm noticing this yearning of I
want longer maternity.

Speaker 2 (18:34):
I want to you know, be in the newborn bubble.
I want to be in it.

Speaker 4 (18:38):
And I notice how much that makes me feel uncomfortable,
and I'm kind of noticing and again i feel like.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
I've done a lot of work on this, but I'm like, oh,
it's coming up.

Speaker 4 (18:48):
If I don't work really hard, I'm not important. Like
that's where my worth is is working doing. And so
let's use that as an example. What would you what
would you say?

Speaker 6 (19:02):
Next steps out?

Speaker 5 (19:03):
Thank you for your courage and your bravery to check
in it.

Speaker 4 (19:07):
It's popping up and I'm like, oh, this is so.

Speaker 5 (19:11):
Like Gabby's here, Let's do it.

Speaker 8 (19:13):
I've got her on the phone. Let's go. She can
coach me through this.

Speaker 5 (19:16):
Let's do it. Let's do it. Baby, Okay, so you're
aware of this belief that from a scale of zero
to ten, right now, where is it at? If I'm
not working, I'm not worthy? Is that kind of the story? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (19:29):
And I think obviously because of the three D reality
of me being the person who owns the money in
our family and the relationship, I'm like, well.

Speaker 2 (19:38):
Dah, you have to work. So it probably feels pretty heavy.
It probably feels like a seven or eight.

Speaker 5 (19:44):
Eight, Okay, So let's check in with it. Okay. So
the first step is to choose to check in with
that part of you which is a protector and in
this case it's a belief. So let's let's focus your
attention in word. You might even want to close your
eyes if it feels more comfortable for you, whatever feels
better for the video. But I just want you to
feel like you're safe, focusing your attention inside, getting comfortable

(20:08):
with that baby inside, and focusing your attention inside, and
just let me know when you've got that access inside
to that part of you, just noticing what you notice.

Speaker 4 (20:21):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 5 (20:23):
Now you can move into the second step, which is curiosity.
So let's ask some questions. So where does that part
of you live in your body.

Speaker 6 (20:32):
In my throat. Okay, I'm feeling.

Speaker 5 (20:37):
Are there any shapes or colors? It's a sensation with
kind of sensation.

Speaker 2 (20:41):
It just feels like my throat is tied. Blue comes
up blue.

Speaker 5 (20:47):
Okay, anything that you know about this part of you?

Speaker 2 (20:52):
It feels tired and exhausted.

Speaker 5 (20:55):
Yeah, how old is it?

Speaker 6 (20:58):
Six? Okay?

Speaker 5 (21:03):
Are there any thoughts or images connected to it?

Speaker 4 (21:07):
I definitely keep seeing my dad and kind of watching
him working really hard, kind of looking through my younger lens,
and it's kind of like, well, I want to be
like him. That's what I need to do to get
what I want.

Speaker 5 (21:27):
Almost Okay, So anything else it wants is to know
right now. No, it sounds like you have a nice
connection to it. Now, Let's connect to it now, compassionately
connect to it, and I want you to ask the

(21:48):
part what do you need?

Speaker 2 (21:53):
Love?

Speaker 5 (21:55):
Okay, place your hand on your heart now or actually
on your throat where it lives, and I want you
to breathe into that space in your body. Just let
it know that you're here, let it know that I'm here.
Take a deep breath in and breathe really deeply into it.

(22:16):
Just let it go. Hand on your heart. Now, put
your hand on your heart and just let your part
know that you're here. And now check in with your
part now and just notice, Notice how you feel right now?

Speaker 6 (22:33):
I feel like I'm relaxing.

Speaker 5 (22:37):
Nice, you feel more calm. Do you feel connected to
that part?

Speaker 2 (22:44):
Mm hmm, like I'm with that six year old may.

Speaker 5 (22:48):
You're with her? Okay? Good? And is there? Do you
feel compassionate towards her?

Speaker 6 (22:53):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (22:56):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (22:57):
Feel connected?

Speaker 6 (22:58):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (23:00):
And clarity?

Speaker 4 (23:01):
Mm hmmm.

Speaker 6 (23:02):
I can see why she's thinking this.

Speaker 5 (23:05):
Yeah, and love is what she wanted. So that's beautiful
that she's got the love. Right now, do you have
a little bit more curiosity, like would you like to
continue to connect to her and get to know more
about her? Nice? Okay, good. Now the you have this connection,
can you just let her know that you'll keep checking
in with her every day? Beautiful? Anything else that you

(23:32):
want to share that you feel right now?

Speaker 4 (23:36):
I'm almost like envisioning giving her a hug and saying like,
you don't have to work for my love.

Speaker 5 (23:47):
Ooh, there you go, there you go, there you go.
You don't have to work for my love, because that's
the love she wants. Is the life towards your love.
That's self love right there right, unbelievably beautiful, sweetheart. That

(24:10):
was so cool, very good at that. A lot of
access I.

Speaker 8 (24:14):
Have obviously because I've read the book.

Speaker 2 (24:15):
I have done a little bit myself, so I felt
like I could connect into it and so beautiful.

Speaker 8 (24:22):
I love too.

Speaker 4 (24:22):
How you know when you're thinking of like a color
or anything like that, like just goes what happens straight away,
like whatever pops in your mind, don't make it mean anything.

Speaker 5 (24:32):
You were very good at just listening. Thank you listening.
That's the work. That's it. You just have access to her, right,
So I want to encourage you to keep checking in
with her regularly. Just keep checking in.

Speaker 2 (24:44):
And would I be like, what do you need? What
do you need from me?

Speaker 5 (24:49):
You would do the four steps. Follow those four steps,
don't detour from the steps, don't don't skip a step, right, just.

Speaker 6 (24:56):
Four steps with that single time.

Speaker 5 (24:58):
Yeah, yeah, I'm going to give you my app. You
can do the Trust the Universe challenge and then there's
also self help check in meditations in the app, so
I can be your guide. You just keep checking in.

Speaker 6 (25:10):
That's amazing.

Speaker 5 (25:11):
What city are you in? Are you in Melbourne, Brisbane.

Speaker 2 (25:13):
Brisbane, well Gold Coast but close to Brisbane.

Speaker 5 (25:16):
O good, So am I going to see you when
I'm in Brisbane? Yeah? It talk? Yeah great? Good, I'm
sorry so excited, great, great, great, Yeah, shout it from
the rooftops. Tell everybody I.

Speaker 2 (25:28):
Know, I know, I'm so excited. Hopefully I get to
meet you in person at some point.

Speaker 5 (25:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (25:34):
Yeah, Just going quickly on from the book.

Speaker 4 (25:37):
So, I think sometimes people can over complicate this, so
what what do I need to do next? And they
want they want to be in the doing, you know,
they can't sit in the even what we just did
then like that's the work, and then you sit with
it and you see how it feels. Like what would

(25:58):
you kind of tell that person who like they constantly
need to do more with self development?

Speaker 5 (26:05):
I would tell them just to take the pressure off.
Just read the book or read a personal development book
that resonates with you, and maybe don't do the practices. Yeah,
I mean the first practice is just to read it
and to take it in. Just do one small thing
daily to lean into that personal development. That's it.

Speaker 6 (26:23):
Okay, beautiful, that's it.

Speaker 4 (26:25):
And what would you say is your daily practices with
yourself that you feel like has been very impact over
you know, let's say the last twelve months or so
that you've been really leaning into.

Speaker 5 (26:38):
The biggest one is what you just did, the self
help check in. I do it multiple times a day,
just check in, check in, check in, always checking in.
The second is the Universe challenge that I'm doing. Yeah,
I'm doing my trust The Universe challenge is like major
for me, really really getting me back into connection. I
cann't wait to do it perfect for you right now.

Speaker 4 (26:57):
And then So someone who you know that in with
themselves and what they'll start to see is like, is
it this beautiful unfolding of they don't feel like they
need to protect themselves, so they're able to step more
into themselves.

Speaker 2 (27:15):
They're able to move through life with less anxieties, less pressure,
and feel more to themselves. Is that's kind of like
the end goal the journey.

Speaker 5 (27:26):
To feel more connected to their self so and to
unburden these belief systems and patterns, so to feel more
calm and connected and curious and compassionate and courageous. That's
the goal.

Speaker 2 (27:41):
Gabby, thank you so much for your time.

Speaker 4 (27:44):
We really really appreciate I know you're a very busy
woman and I cannot wait to see you in Brisbane
in person.

Speaker 2 (27:50):
I know it's going to be incredible. Guys.

Speaker 4 (27:53):
I will put all the links in the show notes
so you can get Gabby's book, you can check out
her live shows coming soon, anything you want to add
or finish with.

Speaker 5 (28:03):
Now, I'm just excited to see people in Australia. I
love coming to Australia. It's going to be pretty epic.
Right now, I'm actually doing something. Hopefully when your listeners
hear this, it's still on. But we're giving away a course,
like a two hundred and seventy dollars course for people
that joined to come to the events. The course is
valued more than the talk because I wanted people to

(28:23):
be able to do the work to release the blocks
of their manifesting power before they even show up to
the live event. And so that course is if you
just go to the link Deargaby dot com slash events
and you see these Australia events, you'll see it there
and I really wanted to give people that pre training
almost so that's happening right now.

Speaker 2 (28:44):
If you're listening, that is incredible. Thank you so much for.

Speaker 5 (28:48):
That thank you my love. Feel good, have a great
day and feel good.
