Speaker 1 (00:11):
You're listening to a Muma Mia podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Mamma Mia acknowledges the traditional owners of land and borders
that this podcast is recorded on.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Good Morning show Girls ash London.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Here and the tea is piping hot today and there's
a lot of it, and it's all Taylor Swift tea.
Because this is the first episode since the most anticipated
album of the year has dropped to our hot little hands. Okay,
so we've all had the weekend to listen to the
album verse ourselves in all the Life of a Showgirl
adjacent content and read the fifty two thousand online thread story, theories.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Reviews, and thoughts.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
I'm going to do my best to get you across
the cream that has risen to the crop.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Get comfy, we're going in. First up, let's talk figures numbers.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Tayte sold two point seven million physical and digital albums
in the first twenty four hours and making it The
Life for show Girl, the second best record for first
day album sales.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
In US history.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
I'm going to give you five seconds to see if
you can figure out which either holds the number one spot.
If you said Adele in twenty fifteen with her album
twenty five, then you'd be correct. A lazy three point
four million album sales for her in one day release day.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
Unbelievable seats.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
Get it girls, Next up, let's talk press. Taylor did
a lot of UK based media, covering the big radio
shows and of course Graham Norton, where she sat next
to Mike King Killian Murphy, who's fast becoming a viral
meme for his dead pan reaction to this moment. But
Taylor shows her ring to the guests on the couch
and there's a lot to congratulate Taylor Swift for both,
(01:56):
but the one I feel I ought to graduate is
the new bit of finger jewelry.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
The hardware are yes out.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
I just like watch it like it's a TV.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
Yeah, Grete was going to get out one of those things.
Favorite the paper.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
You could tell he's like kind of trying to look interested,
but the man's face cannot.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
Lie, and that is why we love him.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
I also thoroughly enjoyed this moment with Greg James on
BBC Radio One, which gave me one of the most
romantic quotes I can think of, involving the man you
love and a door you and I have known each
other for so long longer than Travis has known you.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
The vibes are strong from him. I think he's a
great guy, but I need to check for sure. I
just want to play catch with him.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
All of my guy friends are like, I just want
Travis to like pick me up and throw me over
a roof or throw me in the pool.
Speaker 4 (02:56):
I could do it.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
I love that.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
Yeah, yeah, you know he's six foot six, but it's
also you know, the wits of the shoulders is also
like we're seeing him walk through a door is genuinely
a privilege.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
And one more if you do know, Baby Spice is
actually a radio host on London's Heart FM. Turns out
it was a mutual freak out fest when Taite arrived.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
It's so crazy to actually get to be in the
same room with you because I was telling you I
used to I had your doll by Doll and it
was like my favorite one, and like we would all
fight over who got to be you, like amongst the
girls that were away, like yeah and honestly, like you
just mean the world to me, and it was like
absolutely that it was. You were the first person like
(03:41):
freaked out of.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
I'm really going now.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
I don't know how to take all this in because
thanks for talking to me.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
Stick around, spillers. When we return, we got to talk
about the disc track. Let's talk acoustic versions. I'm not
sure if Tite knows the meaning of the words enough
or sleep or rest, but she's already announced eight acoustic
re records tracks off the album with co producers Max
(04:08):
Martin and Shellback. These eight tracks will be available on
four specialis in CDs now up on her webstop file
this under save your best for the finale. She wrote
on her social media accounts. I think my favorite moments
from the tour were the acoustic surprises. So I went
back into the studio with Max and Shellback to record
acoustic unplugged versions of a few of the Showgirls songs
(04:30):
with brand new vocals and production.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
Can't wait for you to hear now.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
Not that my opinion really matters, but the low point
of the album for me was actually romantic. Sonically, I
didn't love it, and lyrically it's well.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Kind of petty.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
And when you're the most famous, celebrated, talented pop star
on Earth, I think there are some levels you don't
have to stoop to. But on the other hand, she's
Taylor swift, and she can make whatever kind of music
about whatever the hell she wants to make, and who
am I to tell her otherwise?
Speaker 1 (04:55):
But we do need to discuss this.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
Song, which many are saying is and I hate this
word a disc track aimed at Charlie ATCX. Let's go
back to Charlie's song Sympathy is a Knife on her
uber successful Brat album.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
I'm gonna take you through.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
Some of the lyrics on that track, keeping in mind
Taylor dated Mattie Heally and wrote tortured poets about him,
and Maddie is in a band with Charlie's en boyfriend
now husband, George Daniel. The lyrics from Charlie's song read
as follows, I don't want to share this space. I
don't want to force a smile. This one girl taps
my insecurities. Don't know if it's real or if I'm spiraling.
(05:29):
And then later it says, don't want to see her
backstage on my boyfriend's show, fingers crossed behind my back.
I hope they break up quick, because I couldn't even
be her if I tried.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
I'm opposite. I'm on the other side.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
I feel all these feelings I can't control or don't
know why all this sympathy is just a knife. Why
can't I even grip my teeth and lie? I feel
all these feelings I can't control. Now, let's start by
saying that these lyrics are more about Charlie's insecurity and
her own self loathing over them, as opposed to anything
negative towards.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
This mystery woman.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
I actually think it's quite brave and very self aware
of her enter life for show Girl.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
The song actually romantic.
Speaker 3 (06:04):
The lyrics indicate possible clap back, or that perhaps more
went on behind the scenes, on behind door closed doors
than we think. The lyrics read, I heard you call
me boring Barbie when the coke's got you brave, high
five my ex, and then you said you're glad he
ghosted me, wrote me a song saying it makes you
sick to see my face.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
Some people might be offended, but it's actually sweet.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
All the time you've spent on me, it's honestly wild,
all the effort you've put in, it's actually romantic. I
really got to hand it to you. No man has
ever loved me like you do. It feels a bit dicky.
I don't like it. I'm choosing to ignore the track
altogether and move on with my life. Okay, let's stop
movie now and refer to my previous point to about
Taylor not knowing the meaning of the word rest.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
But I digress.
Speaker 3 (06:45):
This is Taylor giving us a heads up about what
to expect in cinemas.
Speaker 4 (06:50):

Speaker 3 (07:04):
Well Opening weekend came, went and conquered, and the official
release Party of a show Girl will win the weekend
in the US and fifteen point eight million dollars on
Friday from three and a half thousand locations. The Fate
of Aphelia music video features Taylor the show Girl, dotting
lots of different wigs, playing lots of women throughout history
in one.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Big gun of huge performance that I can't really describe.
It's very, very creative.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
She plays lots of different roles and seamlessly blends each
scene together.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
I do have to say.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
The ending of the music video references the album cover
of her with her face kind of semi said mergin Water.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
The music video.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
Drops this morning, get around it and for what it's worth,
the highlight of the album for me is the single
Fate of a Philly and the Saprina Carpenter track The
Life of the show Girl. If I'm honest, this was
the song that sounds like the album I imagined. And
now it is time for me to get out of here.
But the girls will be back in your feeds for
the deep dive with this bill at three pm. Morning
