Speaker 1 (00:11):
You're listening to a Muma Mia podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Mamma Mia acknowledges the traditional owners of land and borders
that this podcast is recorded on.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
From Mama Mia.
Speaker 4 (00:26):
Welcome to the Spill, your daily pop culture fix.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
I'm em Vernon and I'm Laura Brodneck.
Speaker 4 (00:31):
And today is the best day of the week because
it's Weekend Watch.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Who oh my god, that should be our Oh my god,
you're going to sing I do.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
Wait, wait, produce a Miniesia, make sure that's our jingle
for all.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
We had a jingle for Weekend Watch when the podcast
first started, like over six years ago, and I wrote
lyrics to it. I can write a new version for you,
and you can sing, Let's do it. Let's release an
album that escalated.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Okay, let's ining it. Taylor Swift count your days.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Yeah, because we're going to release our song on the
same day that you're releasing Life of a Show.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
Go October third.
Speaker 5 (01:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
When he asked me what day it was and.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
I said it's October third, No, nothing will convince me
she didn't do that on purpose. I know she's I'm
saying I know she's saying. It's ten to three inch
Loves thirteen and I was like, I think you just
watched me and girls.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
Just watch me and girls like the rest of us.
It's just a girl's girl. Anyway, We're not talking about
Taylor Swift today.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
No, not today. We have been all week. Yes, today
is our episode where we recommend the best news, movies,
and TV shows that have come out this week, so
you know what to watch for the weekend. What's your
recommendation this week?
Speaker 3 (01:29):
I follow the rules this week.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
Oh I love that.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
Because I'm recommending.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
I feel like I can really do that because you
had no choice.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
I had no choice because I've been like blurring the
lines of what's rules and what's not.
Speaker 4 (01:39):
Yeah, for quite a time then, I know, for years.
But today I am recommending a show that came out
this week exactly. It's called The Cassa. Okay, stick with me, Okay,
it's a sports documentary.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
My god, Emily, I already had to listen to a
sports podcast this week because of Taylor Swift.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
I'm sorry, Yes, okay, it's called The Casta. Do you
remember when Rob maclhenny and Ryan Reynolds got together and
they invested in a football team and they made that show.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
Called Wrexham yeah, I weirdly do know about about.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
The Wales football team. Well they're back for round two.
Oh thank god, and this time it's starring our favorite actress.
Speaker 3 (02:15):
I think I talked about her in last weekend. Watch.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Yeah, Eva Longoria, Oh my god, Eva Longoria out there
doing the lord.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
She's doing the most so Nicassa if you don't know,
it's called Club Nikassa. It's a football team in Mexico.
And she describes Mexican culture as like football isn't just
a sport, but it's a language there, Like it's massive,
and this is a very historical team in Mexico. Evil
Longoria has just bought steaks within the team alongside Kate Upton.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Oh, an unexpected celebrity friendship.
Speaker 4 (02:47):
It's like she's not mentioned anywhere in the docu series
so far, only three episodes are out right now. But
like I just when I was doing my clever research
for this, like fifty percent of the steaks are owned
by a few celebrities and one of them is Kate Upton.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Oh my god. It's never crossed my mind what Kate
Upton is up to. But I'm so glad to know actress.
People used to say terrible things about her that she
had a face anyone could buy. I never believed it,
and I'm glad she's doing well.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
Just do it well.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Football team.
Speaker 4 (03:16):
So Eva Longoria is very passionate about football. She loves
this team. She also owns stakes in it. She brought
on Rob McElhenny and Ryan Reynolds who are also executive
producers for this show as she and they have minority
stakes in the team as well. And the whole thing
is about just kind of sharing the culture of this
football team with the rest of the world. It's very
(03:37):
feel good. So it's very much the same storyline if
you've watched rexim about like the families of the football
players and like the upbringing and like the fan base
and trying to make it bigger, trying to put money
into a team that has never kind of been acknowledged
historically before, just to like give them that like fame
that they deserve. And it has kind of like an
(03:58):
underlying storytelling of ted Lasso. It all comes back, but
the underdogs that you want to like just succeed and
do really well. It's so well done. Eva is like
kind of the main person in the show. It's like
Rob Michael Henny and Ryan Reynolds in a tiny bit,
but they're not like the narrators and they're not there
but interviews that you can see them in games and.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
Stuff like that.
Speaker 4 (04:18):
But just watching her passion for this, like Eva Longoria,
Oh my god.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
Football in Mexico is a language. It's the national language.
Iva Longa was in town to watch her team Club
Nikko said, my commitment to Nakatsa it's about culture. I
want to show the beauty of the Mexican people, where
(04:46):
the royals, this idea that one day you can be
an underdog and the next day you're building a football empire.
And now Robin Raymin are here for the fun.
Speaker 5 (04:58):
We're very excited to join in and be a part
of your story. The teams, the town and everything around
loses all sor is the most mui ambarassaldos. And then
you just said that you're pregnant, Rob, I really do.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
We're gonna win hearts, We're gonna inspire pride, We're gonna
empower the team. That's what's at stake, and this is
just the beginning.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
I love Eva long Gloria, I love everything when she
talks about business, I love her like crazy thoughts. I
love her talking about growing up as an ugly duckling
when she was winning beauty pageants. I just love everything
about her.
Speaker 4 (05:49):
So watch it.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
It's on Disney Plas.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
It's called The CASTA love that.
Speaker 3 (05:55):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
From a sports documentary to a crime drama. Oh okay,
So I'm talking about The rain Maker, which is a
new legal drama that is coming to stand this weekend.
Mad Damon, No, Mad Dame is On in this, But
that's a good pick up, Emily, because the original movie.
So this is based on the best selling John Grissom
novel of the same name, and many many years ago,
it was a Matt Damon movie.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
Did you watch it?
Speaker 2 (06:16):
Or you just know Matt Damon's filmography.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
I just know his IMDb page by heart.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Okay, hang out there. That's the most problematic thing you've
ever said that you're a closet Matt Damon fan.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
Everything he's in is just so good. He's just a
fan of the work Oceans.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
You're a fan of that.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
You can set the hunting. Yeah, the zoo keeper is Adam.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
Yeah, he's in that. No, No, we bought a zoo.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
We bought a suit.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
The zoo Zookeeper is like Kevin wants his Name, comedy
that wasn't great, that has a person in a gorilla suit.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
Whoa No. I love Matt Damon. I like him more
than his best friend Ben Affleck.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
Oh okay, I've really warmed to Ben Affleck of flavor.
That's a podcast for another day.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
The men we warmed to.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
The Problematic Celebrity Men We Secretly Love, which I think
was an episode we have done before.
Speaker 4 (07:01):
We've done before, and it's like all your celebrity crushes.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
No I know, I actually am almost thinking it's not
even problematic in the way where we can laugh about
like they're all deeply problematic. No, no, no, I have
to retract a few terrible things I said over the years.
But again, that's a story for another day. So the
rain Maker on stand they didn't Mad Day, not Mad Dame.
And I can can't stress enough how much this show
didn't want to be drawn into that conversation. So it's
(07:25):
a series based on the novel. So Miley Callahan stars
as Rudy Baylor. So he graduates law school with his
girlfriend Sarah, and he goes to work at this very fancy,
high end law firm, you know, like one of the
law firms out of suits, and the head of that
law firm is played by one of the sexiest men
on screen, John Slattery. Oh, sexy in Sex and the City,
sexy in Mad Men, sexy in just everything. He's in
(07:48):
the Ultimate Silver Fox.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
What's his like look in this?
Speaker 5 (07:52):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (07:53):
So he's like, so his name is Leo Drummond and
he's like the Titan of the Yeah. Yeah's getting only
hot name Leo. Yeah, only hot man name Leo. He's
still a still he's been a silver Fox since I
was born, and he's he's got the suits. He's in
charge of the law firm. So he's like really powerful. Yeah,
you'd into it problematic. He's old enough to be both
of our grandfather but that's never stopped us before. So
(08:15):
Rudy goes to the law firm on his first day
and he completely messes it up and his career ends there.
So then he goes to work for this other kind
of shady law firm and gets caught up in this
really sad case of a grieving mother who's trying to
get justice for her dead son. So his smaller, like
scrappy law firm goes up against the big, powerful law
firm with John Slattery that he just left, and chaos
(08:38):
and drama ensues.
Speaker 6 (08:39):
I have always wanted to be a lawyer. You are
doing what you were meant to do.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
Rudy, you you look like you have an opinion.
Speaker 5 (08:47):
I out fire.
Speaker 6 (08:48):
Why can't you back away from a faith? I screwed up?
It's over.
Speaker 5 (08:53):
I do know a law firm.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
Look at home. You know it used to be a
taco hud.
Speaker 6 (08:58):
You know, Sir Ruser is the best lawyer I know.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
So Leo hired on your first day?
Speaker 3 (09:06):
Oh daddy, he's sirt Monday, We're.
Speaker 6 (09:10):
Going it's the biggest firm in this day. You need
to drop this case or what are you curious about?
What's going on here? His client is guilty of criminal conspiracy.
This isn't a negligent suit, it's murder. The question is
how high up does it go?
Speaker 2 (09:27):
If you want to screw the people who screwed out.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
Client, what are you willing to do to be a rainmaker?
Speaker 6 (09:36):
Donny ray Black was murdered. They knew about it. They
covered it up.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
Oh we've only just begun my friend, Oh my god.
Battle of the Band, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
Yeah, So with some light murder and stuff thrown in
there and stuff. No, no, that's I'm leading you deether
wrong path. But oh there's a dead person. They're trying
to solve the case. And Alana Parella isn't it If
anyone's watched Once upon a Time where she played Regina
and the Evil Queens? Ever watched Once upon a Time?
Speaker 3 (10:06):
I have watched.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
She's been in other stuff, but that is her defining
role for me. She was the leader of series for
the many mini seasons that Oh my god. Yes, and
she plays the evil Queen and she's so good until
she's in this too. So it's a stacked cast. So
the first episode of The rain Maker is coming out
on stand this Saturday, the sixteenth, and the new episodes
drop every week.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
Oh my god.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
You're looking for like a little bit of a legal drama,
and especially if you don't know how the book ends
or how the movie ends, it does obviously change it
up a little bit for a series, But you know,
don't look for spoilers. Just watch it.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
I love it.
Speaker 4 (10:36):
I do have one more quick recommendation. Yeah that is
kind of breaking the rules because it actually came out
last week.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
Yeah, but we didn't talk about it, so I feel
like I can now.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
Wednesday season two is out on Netflix right now.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
Yes, I have been watching it because this weekend I'm
going to Wednesday Island and General Tager and Tim Burton
are going to be there.
Speaker 4 (10:55):
Wednesday season two I'm very excited for because the first
half of the season has dropped. Now the second half
is going to come out in September sometime straight off
the bat like high stakes, Yeah, we thought she went
through it all last season. There's more what I love
about this And as we're saying, more of the Adams family, yes,
bring me.
Speaker 3 (11:13):
More, captain Z the Jones like, I will not complain.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
Because at first, I liked the idea of Wednesday the
first season not being focused on the Adams family because
I'm like, we've seen all the TV shows, We've seen
all the movie, we know, all the characters done so much.
I love the idea that Wednesday went off and got
her own story. But now that that world is more established,
I'm loving her family being in.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
Part of it.
Speaker 4 (11:30):
Hugsley's bag yeah thing, Yeah, my favorite character and he
puts like his little ring on when he goes out. Yeah,
Oh my god, it's just such a good TV good
like family TV.
Speaker 3 (11:41):
It's also a little bit scary.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
Yeah, I did wonder how you go with that. It's
not scary for anyone else, but you get a little
scared of basic.
Speaker 4 (11:47):
Thingah well, I don't want to say too much because spoilers,
but like someone's coming after Wednesday, Yeah, in a big way,
and I'm quite worried.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
The first episode starts with a full serial killer. Yeah,
like it's very, very scared.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
I wanted it for the first season. I wanted it
to go darker, yeah, because I don't like it when
it plays in this family friendly teen area. It's like,
go dark or go home.
Speaker 4 (12:09):
It is so good, like him Burden the artist he is.
It's just such beautiful scenes, Like I just want to
live in that world obviously protected with the big blanket. Yeah,
I just want to be there and live in that world.
Acting is amazing. I feel like General Tager is just
getting better and better. Like I love her as an actor.
Wednesday first half of season two out. Now watch it.
Let us know how much you love it.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
Can I fly one more thing that I'll be watching
this weekend that I just need a moment of silence
for the final time that we'll see Carrie Bradshaw on
our screens is this week, this weekend. So the episode,
the final episode in just like that, is already out
in the world. It is the final time that we'll
see these characters. And I haven't.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
Watched it yet because you need time.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
Well, I wasn't going to rush home from work and
just put it on one like cooking dinner or something.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
This is a huge moment. Our emotions come first, right Yeah.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:02):
Also, we're obviously doing a huge episode on the whole
thing next week, so don't worry, guys, they'll be I'm
going to say, three hour episode with my thoughts and
feelings about this. Yeah, I need to, like, I've put
aside all of Saturday afternoon and I'm gonna light my candles,
I'm gonna make a cosmo, I'm gonna pull the blinds
and put my phone into the room and I'm just
gonna really like sit and be present and be in it, Okay,
(13:24):
And I.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
Just need to know anything thoughts on prayers.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
Yeah, I just yeah, I just want to sort of
flag in case anyone's like lost track of the days
of the episode. And just like that final episode final
episode ever is out. Watch it because we're gonna be
talking about it so much next week, where you won't
because you're not watching it, but like I will.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
Light a candle for a fair character.
Speaker 4 (13:41):
