Speaker 1 (00:00):
There's something that happens and I didn't know that it
was a thing, but it's a trend now. It generally
happens on December first, and a lot of people have
been sharing these things on social media over the last
nine days, and a mum has taken to the Internet.
You wouldn't believe it.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
We love doing that us mums.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
She's slamming this Christmas trend called December one box or
the Christmas eve box or that's court pointed out to me.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Sometimes people do both slam slam them all shut girl.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Apparently the gifts in this box includes like Christmas theme pajamas,
story books, Lolly's activity books. And this mom took to
one of the Australia Mum's Facebook group. I love that
there's just on a Christmas Mum's Australia Facebook. Are you
in that Christmas Mom? I didn't even know about it.
(00:55):
I'm surprised. I'm surprised that it wasn't shown to you. Yeah,
Christmas Mom's Australia Facebook group I join.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Apparently they're my people, although if they're doing this, maybe.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
Maybe they're not. So there's these Christmas boxes are big
things and sometimes you also get something just before Christmas
Day because people want to open up gifts on Christmas Eve,
but so they get other gifts anyway.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
So do you want me on a soapbox or.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
Let me just think of feelings in a second. Right,
I just want to point out I'm not a Grinch,
as you pointed out earlier. I'm grin grinch adjacent. But
I love that people are happy. I love that people
get to spend them with their families. I love their
food and everything. I'm not a gift guy. I think
we go too far with gifts.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
I think Shan't has an example of one of the boxes.
Really what's like, what's inside the box?
Speaker 3 (01:50):
Here's what I put in my kids December first box
this year. So they're out with a ginger breakbottle machine perfect,
oh weekend breakfast. And I also got them a blue
coloring in book to and these super cute Christmas cups.
Christmas basket is not complete without candy canes, so they
were essential. Next up, I got each of them a
set of pajamas. So I got this centa set for
the twins. I just got two of those, obviously, This
(02:13):
Grinch set for my five year old, The Red Grinch
set for my three year old and a little one
for my baby. Then just to bulk it up a
little bit, I found these Christmas fushies which was super cute,
So I just popped a few of those in and
that is our December first box complete.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
Yeah, and then just to bulk it up a little bit,
she put all that stuff in there, and she's making
them share a coloring book. Well, the coloring books. She
clearly doesn't care about anyone who has kids.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
Know, you can't buy one coloring book. You have to
buy a coloring book for each.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
Any who. So my feelings are that we're going too
far with Christmas stuff, right, So we're buying too much
stuff at Christmas. This is getting ridiculous. And it's because
everyone wants to outdo each other on the internet with
like all this stuff, or they feel pressure because they're like, oh,
now we're doing this Christmas boxes that everyone goes out
and buys more stuff that nobody needs. And I just
(03:08):
want to know, I'm thirteen, ten sixty and it can
just be a yes or no thing. Are we going
too far with Christmas? Are we going too far with
Christmas gifts? Specifically, because this trend is ridiculous. Now, I know,
me saying that it's going to upset people and say, oh,
it's not the spirit of Christmas. But I think the
spirit of Christmas is just like spending time with people
that you love. Yeah, and that's it. And if you're religious,
(03:32):
it's about a bunch of other stuff, and.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
Like the food is part of my yeah, of course, yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
Have food, have a merry time. But it doesn't need
to be about getting like layers upon layers of gifts
over many days.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
No.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
I just think it's too much.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
I think that's too the way I always think about
it with things like the December first box, the Christmas
Eve box, the elf on the shelf, la la lah.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
Yeah, you were ranting about elf on the shelf. On
the other day we started about.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
That elf is never entering my home. All these things
didn't exist when we were younger. Someone made them things recently.
We were all just bought into it commercialism and you're
just like putting financial pressure and societal pressure on yourself
to like give your kids more stuff.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
But kids don't need more stuff. We were reminiscing, and
I know this is going to sound like old man
Neil again, just talking about the good old days. But
we got like one present, one main gift, and then
sure you might get something from you now or you pop,
you know whatever uncle used to.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
Get the shower caddie thing like with bath soaps and
stuff from your grandma.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
She just got us closed.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Oh yeah, like a links pack for the boys.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
Yes, and it was blue like mine was pink, right,
great boy girl man yeah,
