Speaker 1 (00:10):
My Heart podcasts, hear more Kids podcasts, playlists, and listen
live on the Free I hard.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
A could have been every under his will and Woody
Laura Henshaw's in the studio. She just stepped down as
the CEO of Kick and she's heavily pregnant.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Unrelated, They're unrelated.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
It's a beautiful coincidence.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Is that right? That is exactly right?
Speaker 1 (00:34):
Okay, just checking, So definitely not stepping down because you're pregnant,
and I think it's important to send the message out
that like, even if you are pregnant or having children,
you can absolutely stay in your role as CEO.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
I do want to ask you, though, I Reckon, We.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
Spoke to you a year and a half ago before
you were pregnant and you're doing the podcast as well,
of should I have kids? Not sure if you want
to have kids, and that idea of work did come up,
and you were kind of grappling with that idea of
I spend so much time at work and other things
like can I make the whole family thing work? How
(01:07):
are you feeling about the whole thing now as your
partner Dulton feeling about it?
Speaker 4 (01:11):
Oh, it was actually a big part of it was
my identity because it works been a larger career, large
part of my identity that I didn't want to lose.
And so I think the further I've come on the
journey and the more people I have met, and especially
like women working in executive roles or you know, whatever
the role does have to be executive, might be what
I have found is a lot of the women that
(01:31):
haven't maybe stayed home for a long long time and
gone back to work and careers still stayed a really
big part of their life. They just don't talk about
it on social media, so you just don't really hear
a lot about it, which means why I was scared
that that wouldn't be able to be me, but it
can be. So that's been really good to navigate.
Speaker 3 (01:51):
Do you think they don't do it?
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Because and I otherwise thought it was very unfair of
like when Abby Holmes is someone who works as a
commentator for the AFL and she returned to work after
having a baby.
Speaker 4 (02:01):
I don't know exactly what the time was, seven weeks
I think.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
Seven weeks after that's right, Yeah, there was and online
just like you shouldn't be at work, you should be
at home with the baby.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
How did you like seeing that out there? How did
that make you feel?
Speaker 2 (02:14):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (02:14):
I get it's like, would you ever say that to
the dad if it's a heterosexual relationship, like you, we
wouldn't say that, right, And for Abby, she's doing the
best thing for herself and if going back to work
means that she'll be a better parent, then it's her
decision of course.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
Yeah, it's crazy how people project like that. I wonder
for some of them it's like they didn't have the
opportunity to do that so or maybe they didn't want to,
and so it's uncomfortable that she wants to.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Yeah, yeah, so you and if you and Dalton discussed her?
And what does Dalton do for work? Does he?
Speaker 4 (02:44):
So he runs his own business, but he's actually also
just stepped down a CEO, So.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
He did he make his decision before pregnancy as well?
Speaker 3 (02:54):
Or is his pregnant pregnancy related?
Speaker 4 (02:56):
He probably was a part of it, but not the
main the main thing.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Yeah, yeah, okay, So out of the two of you, Like,
is there going to be like a if we have
to label like a primary caregiver out of the two
of you, or is it just going to be like
you're going to try and just like split it.
Speaker 4 (03:12):
We haven't been parents yet, so I'm very like love.
But then the road to hell is paid, both both equal.
That's kind of what we where. We want to aim
for and obviously it will ebb and flow like everything does.
(03:33):
But that's how we want it. We want to do it.
But he's very regimented and he wants to have a
two hour schedule overnight. He made us write it down.
It's very nice. He's thinking about it from eight six
pm until the next day am and two hours. Every
(03:53):
two hours someone has to happen.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Child's waking up at ten am.
Speaker 4 (03:58):
We haven't we haven't had children, he said, Laura, I'm
going to take eight pm until two am, but I'm
not going to go to sleep the whole time. Why
just in case maybe needs me.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
That is in first Wow, get sleep when you can.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
I just love the idea. Off you were sitting up
being like, no, it's my ship. Just punching red bulls.
Speaker 4 (04:19):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Preparing late, oh wow, to be fair getting back in
his job sounds like you need something to feel his time.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
I was listening to babies crying in preparation. Wow, Like
I caught a baby boot camp ridiculous. Wow, don't do that.
It's not the same as having.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
A real baby crying.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
So how so, when do you officially stop work or
have you officially stopped work?
Speaker 4 (04:44):
I haven't yet. I've stepped out of the rule, but
I'm still working.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
Because you're aware that all of this could flip very quickly.
I was just thinking of a friend of mine who's
a high power, Like she's a partner at a personal
injury firm. She works incredibly hard, and she recently just
took her matt leave and I think the first week
she was she caught it with like a maide of
mine's dad for coffee, just to fill the time.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
Like she like she was proper.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
And I know how busy you are, so you know
there will be probably a gestation period there mind the
pun off when you begin this change of your life,
that's all you've known. Yeah, it'll be like wow. And then,
because I mean it's funny, we're asking all these questions,
you won't like, you won't know exactly, you won't know.
(05:28):
And then you hear these stories of other people who
are career people, their whole lives, they have a child,
they throw the whole thing out the window and they're like,
why would I ever do anything to do with that
ever again? And then you know you got to Abby,
who knows it's all so different from everyone's No way
you can do it. Yeah, I'm certainly not a two
hour by two hours nightly.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
For two hours, I was like, I've got forty five
minutes to go and to wake up for them.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
I really hope Dad's awake, My dad, you're still there,
still in my shift? Hey, I before before we let
you go?
Speaker 2 (06:02):
Apparently am I right in saying that someone very famous
slid into your DMS recently?
Speaker 4 (06:08):
Is that right? Ten years ago?
Speaker 3 (06:09):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
This is analys has fed this to me and she's
typing furiously now who is that's hot mail.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
From ten years ago? Who is analyst?
Speaker 2 (06:18):
Who is an analyst? And she said it on the kickpod?
Speaker 4 (06:21):
Yes, okay, so this was You know, you can.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
Just buzzy and analytes.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
You don't have to type, go on buzzy and mate,
set it on the kickpod. Bora, there we go.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
Okay, so I don't have ten years ago famous people
sliding in, so there's only been.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
One a ten years pretty good though?
Speaker 4 (06:37):
Yeah, yeah, I reckon actually maybe it was. She was
quite a long time ago.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
Freshened it up a little bit.
Speaker 4 (06:45):
Deal David Beckham for what reason? Well, we worked together.
Speaker 2 (06:51):

Speaker 3 (06:53):

Speaker 4 (06:55):
We both are ambassadors for I don't know if he
still is, but for AIA, which is an insurance company.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
Really, yes, an ambassador for insurance company. Better people being inmbassadors,
but you know, charity and stuff. But you can be
an ambassador for like yui, what do you mean is
that right?
