My Heart podcasts, hear More Kids podcasts, playlists, and listen
live on the Free I heard.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
We've been talking about this all show.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
It's not very often that you get the wolverine on
the show, but you and I had the absolute privilege
of sitting down with Hugh Jackman this morning.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
Yeah, and I'm gonna be honest, like, you're obviously nervous
before a chat with someone of Hugh Jackman's stature, for sure,
And it didn't help when he immediately revealed to us
the massive celebrity who had just interviewed him.

Speaker 4 (00:42):
How are we going second? You know who you're following?

Speaker 5 (00:46):
Oprah?

Speaker 2 (00:48):
You're kidding, you are joking.

Speaker 6 (00:50):
You just spoke to Oprah, had she go?

Speaker 4 (00:55):
She gave me a car which I don't want.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
I don't know, Well, maybe pay that one forward. You
will take the.

Speaker 5 (01:00):
Car, but I don't want there to be a problem
with you too, so maybe I'll give it to your producer.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
That's nice.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Even let us down lightly and you know, tell us
that some upstart from you know, Central Australian Interview.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
Do not Oprah.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
We're to makers just absolutely quaking our boots before we've
ever begun.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Welcome to the big Toe boys.

Speaker 4 (01:20):
I gave everything to Oprah this.

Speaker 5 (01:22):
I am totally phoning it in, every great anecdote, every story,
what what funny thing happened on set? She got everything,
all of it. Lose this interview and say, guys, just
click on Oprah's interview.

Speaker 6 (01:38):
We'll just we'll just put a link to Oprah's interview
radio show.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
That's a great idea.

Speaker 4 (01:43):
This picture that he made.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Congrats on the movie, like truly saw.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
My dad's favorite record growing up was always Hot August Night.
So oh man, the tears, it was just immense.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
We cried our eyes out. It was really did you
dare go?

Speaker 4 (02:06):
You know?

Speaker 3 (02:06):
My dad No, he can't see it yet, but I
as soon as I left, I messaged him and I
was like, We've got to go and see this movie together.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
So I'll probably I'll be gonna. I'll be seeing it twice.

Speaker 4 (02:14):
Mate.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
I'm not sure if Oprah did that, but I will
be seeing it twice.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
Oh yeah, you know my for me growing up too
Hot Agus Night?

Speaker 5 (02:24):
I was everywhere. Yeah, it was everywhere. I'm born in
sixty eight, so the seventies, mid seventies, and actually I
hung out with Neil, the nice little name drop there
and he was saying to me, Australia has always been
like one of his biggest.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
Well that was my next question was did you get
the full Obviously, you know you have to get the
rights to be singing all of his songs, but did
you like sit down with him before the movie and
sort of have a chat about what you were doing
and how much influence I.

Speaker 5 (02:54):
Met him, So I'm really good mates with Paul Dainty
and Paul as his promoter, right, and I went for
dinner with him and Katie like when they were out
doing that last tour twenty eighteen or something, and that
was really cool. But I heard that he because he
knew this story. This film is based on a docker
which he had seen, and he knew about the story.
He knew about this you know Neil Diamond tribute band

(03:17):
back in the day. And I don't want to give
away the ending, but that all of that is totally true.
So he gave totally everything, and he gave.

Speaker 4 (03:26):
The rights pretty much straight up.

Speaker 5 (03:28):
And he's pretty apparently pretty cagy with the rights to
his music in terms of commercials or films don't And
he was right into it, and he rang me straight
after he saw the film and he was crying. Man,
it was yeah, and I went and hung out with
I said, this is about the most ausy thing I'm
ever going to do.

Speaker 4 (03:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (03:49):
I mean, he's on the phone and I'm like, I said,
do you mind if I come over a coupa or something?
And he goes, no, that's fine. And then in the
email exchange, I said I didn't quite clock that. You
guys are an asked and I said, okay, if I stayed
the night.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
You invited yourself to Neil Diamond's house.

Speaker 4 (04:07):
Well, and she said, are you inviting yourself to my
house for.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
A sleepover as well?

Speaker 6 (04:12):
It's not only for a cup, it's a cover and
a sleepover.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
And it was so awesome. And here's the highlight.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Mate.

Speaker 5 (04:19):
We go for dinner and he's like, Katie, his wife said,
I just want you to know Neil loves a bit
of karaoke. He's probably gonna ask you no, why no, why?
So we sit down for dinner, like the bread hasn't
come out or anything, and it was like, you guys
want to do karaoke?

Speaker 4 (04:36):
I said one hundred percent. He goes, great, let's get
the machine out and he's like mate, can we just
eat something?

Speaker 5 (04:42):
So we eat the starters, bread and started, and he
goes to karaoke and he's like, come on, let's have
the main meal. Let's about four times and then we're
saying karaoke together. I dream to dream is you're kidding?
That's where he started, and it was so good just
sitting there. Then he hands me the mind can falling

(05:05):
in Love you wo.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Story, I got that, Oprah. You just put the boys.
We're in the shoes of the person that's just on
a ski trip. They walk in to go and have
a bit of dinner.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
First of all, you guys sitting there, and then next
minute Neil Diamond, Hugh Jackman, jeet like, you wouldn't believe
you like you wouldn't you wouldn't you just wouldn't believe that.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
Story's crazy.

Speaker 4 (05:31):
It was so cool.

Speaker 5 (05:32):
He put his arm round and when I walked up
to him, I'm told, this is totally me bragging.

Speaker 4 (05:37):
He goes, you did good, you did a good kid.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
It's just.

Speaker 5 (05:44):
With other people singing you songs, and he goes, I
don't like it. So it really goes he said, my
songs have been covered by everyone.

Speaker 4 (05:50):
He goes, yes, I don't like it.

Speaker 5 (05:52):
I'm just critical of its no no, no matter, why Bud.

Speaker 6 (05:58):
What was his wife doing during all of this, Hue,
I feel like there's just this bromance going on between
you and it was the wife, just like, can we
bring out the mains now?

Speaker 4 (06:05):
Well, there's this a bit of that, but actually she
was filming it. I'm not sure where that says, guys,
but she was.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
Because you're when you're the same token, it must feel
a bit. This is a bit weird maybe here, but
at the end of the day, you're Hugh Jackman. So
there's a bit of you know, like not to Neil.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
But you know what I mean, like your Neil Doving.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
You're someone like you're You're you're also the guy like
you know, so that's what it must be.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
I don't know a bit really, guys.

Speaker 5 (06:28):
How I feel is I'm I'm the guy listening in
like Warunga or Chatswood where I grew up and ride
your bike down the street.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
I was gonna ask him.

Speaker 5 (06:40):
I remember the green Gate Hotel. There was a guy
we used to go and see him. He was a
karaoke and the Greennie and we I'm immediately remembering the
night I got thrown out on my night after high
school when we broke up and I threw up straight
in front of him.

Speaker 4 (06:56):
Yeah, it was like four ft and I threw up.

Speaker 5 (06:59):
It was a messy night, beautiful And but this guy
used to see Neil Diamond and we used to go
and watch him a bit.

Speaker 4 (07:04):
It's a bit like the movie, but it was just karaoke.
Wasn't being paid, but he just every week it was cool.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
Hey, I was gonna ask you, mate.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
So obviously one of the you know, the sort of Mike,
the character that you play in the film, he's he's
quite strong on the fact that Neil Diamond's got so
much range beyond Sweet Caroline. Yeah, and because obviously that's
you know, Neil Diamond. If you're not a Nil durwond fan,
you just know that bah bah bah a bit. But
you're so huge in the movie on Sillimon and all
these other, you know, great songs.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
That he sings. I was wondering for you, like, have
you got another?

Speaker 3 (07:33):
Is that a thing for you in Hollywood as well,
is like have you got a Sweet Caroline? Where people
are like, oh, do the bit and you're like, ah,
I've done that.

Speaker 5 (07:41):
If it's it's generally if I go around the world,
it's like, ah, yeah, yeah, you're there.

Speaker 4 (07:49):
Yeah, I don't know, you know, but yeah, come on.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
It's true.

Speaker 6 (07:53):
It's a true hue that for a while kids got
scared of you when they saw you because they thought
you were Wolverine.

Speaker 4 (07:57):
Totally.

Speaker 5 (07:58):
They're just looking up at me, looking in my hands,
looking up at me, and then you know, their dad's like,
this is Wolverene and they're like, kids, like, I get
me the hell out of here.

Speaker 6 (08:05):
It was a little bit the only other thing I
heard about that. Hugh, tell me if this is wrong,
But did you also then start carrying candy around because
you knew you would scare children that you would then
give them candy.

Speaker 4 (08:15):
That's wrong.

Speaker 5 (08:18):
It's just wrong in every sense that I'm carrying candy
for kids.

Speaker 4 (08:22):
Like, no, let's not. There's a headline a kid come
in man, a little lonely. Now I'm Wolverine. Come on,
come on over here, get in the car, come on,
get in the back.

Speaker 5 (08:38):
No, but I don't know where that story came from.
I did once trigger treating. Oh, I went trigger treating
with the kids who were dressed up as wolverine. And
I was right behind them, not normal person.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
Notice so.

Speaker 4 (08:52):
And I actually had claws in my hands.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
I was just like this.

Speaker 4 (08:55):
It was like X Men two, so it's sort of
early days. But yeah, nothing.

Speaker 2 (08:59):
Oh that's brilliant.

Speaker 5 (09:00):
Thanks for watching the movie. I'm glad you loved that.
I'm genuinely I feel like I'm turning into that actor.
I'm the guys like you guys could see this movie
and everyone's looking like the one you're in, Like, I'll
be the judge of.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
That beautiful guy, beautiful.

Speaker 3 (09:18):
Don't check out the movie song sung Blue Hugh Jackman
in a Neil Diamond themed extravaganza out New Year's Day.
