Speaker 2 (00:17):
We've got Laura Henshaw in the studio right now. So, Laura,
we are talking about this Chris Griffin podcast that you've.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Been You're such a like.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
I found it interesting when the girls in our team
were telling me that you've been quite vociferous about this.
Speaker 4 (00:32):
Like.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
I found that interesting because anyone that knows you personally.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Like you're a lovely person, Laura, Like, it's very hard
to get you riled up like at all. So like,
if either you're upset about this said to me, immediately,
I was like, there's gonna be something slightly wrong with this.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
Here's just a little bit about what this guy was saying.
Speaker 4 (00:48):
This is why I heavily encourage hot girl walks. I
would love my partner to go on a hot girl
walk with her friends every day, or she gets this
feminine energy, they get to have a bit of excitement
about their day. I don't think the girl needs to
go through challenge, pain and hardship to be an amazing girl.
I think she can fill her days with passion filled
things and still be amazing.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Do you think that this sort of language is something
that's catching on and and affecting people like actually, and
do you think that it's changeable?
Speaker 5 (01:13):
The researcher came out that this type of content is
actually within mainstream. Now that's obviously really really scary. But
the other thing that came out that if you do
consume this type of content, it can impact a male's
view on a woman in a way that she can
be inferior. And obviously that is incredibly problematic if those
kind of belief systems are being instilled in a piece
(01:35):
of research. I believe it was from E sixty one
Institute gen z Men. They believe in gender roles more
than the older generation. Wow, which is insane.
Speaker 6 (01:47):
That really does feel like it's flipped, like it's only
taking a few generations for it to go back the
other What do you think was the turning point there, Laura,
Because it feels like in my head, you always when
you're talking about you know, toxic masculinity and stuff, that's
the older generation.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
What has happened for that to go back the other way?
Speaker 5 (02:03):
I think the biggest thing is because this content has
come into mainstream and men are making a lot of
money from it, and the thing that's really scary is
very ready to go on someone's page and every single
piece of content is misogynistic, but it's the fitness content.
It's the you know, discipline for it, like go go, go,
punish yourself. Don't that you have to otherwise you're weak.
And then also make money quick or this is how
(02:26):
you make money kind of content. That's what it's kind
of surrounded by, which you can understand that that can
be appealing to people. They see it, they start following,
and then their beliefs actually impacted.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
One of the women down in just down on the
floor was showing me something on Instagram the other day
that she follows called Hinge bios. So it's like screenshots
of guys bios on Hinge hilarious. I asked if it
was a joke one of them. Like the tagline like
under his name was I don't think you should be
able to have a child if you can't control what
you put into your.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
Body every day. That was his bit. That was it,
and just a photo of him with his rigap is.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
That that point for like clean living was that the
point was if you can't diet properly to keep weight off.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
I don't think you should be able to have a kid.
Oh was the bit.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
And I was like, what is this a joke? And
she was like, no, I have a look and show
you another one again. The tag one in his profile
was just I will make you feel insecure.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
And this is on a dating at where he's trying
to attract women and they.
Speaker 5 (03:20):
Think that that will attract him strong man. Yeah, it's
so scary.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
It actually, it's same thing I had to have explained
to me. I was like, what's he going for?
Speaker 1 (03:29):
So Laura other women that are believing this too, now.
Speaker 5 (03:32):
Yeah, So we have seen a really big rise recently
in kind of the trad wives traditional traditional wife exactly.
But there's kind of now a type of social media
influencer that he's a tradwife. There are women that follow this,
this type of belief system, I suppose, but it's nothing
to do with it being a stayin home parent, being
(03:53):
bad at It's.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
Funny you say that. I actually am very glad.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
I think earlier, very early on, I said seven, I
sat down with our accountant and explained that I was
going to keep working while she had Max and looked
after Max and raised her and one of the first
things he said is he was like, all right, mate,
well you're going to be earning money.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
She's not going to be money.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
So he was like, I don't really want to strong
arm you into this, but I think you should just
kind of just needed to join everything because otherwise, you know,
well like even if like I die or whatever, like
you know, if I haven't got impact, if I haven't
got income protection or you know, all that sort of stuff,
you're gon to be leaving it a completely high and dry.
I don't think you should if you listen to this,
and you should, you should necessarily blame yourself if it's
something you thought of before. Either because the reason that
(04:29):
a lot of this kind of manisphere of stuff has arisen,
and maybe why a lot of the younger boys are
gravitating towards it, is because there was that move towards
you know, like condemning toxic masculinity, et cetera. But I
think that, like you know, as can naturally happen, the
left can kind of start eating itself where you get
wrapping young boys over over the head with a stick
and being like you're not you're not good enough, you're
(04:51):
all toxic, and then they don't have anyone.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
To talk to, and then there's almost like a rebellion, and.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
Then all of a sudden, there's a guy over here going, hey,
people making you feel alienated and redundant and that you're
sexually impotent. Hey, there's this there's this language we're all
using over here, we're all getting around each other. So
you could see the natural progression there. So I mentioned
that because if you haven't had these thoughts to yourself
about this, then you haven't thought about your role, you know,
with your partner or how you might be able to
support them, and thinking about superannuation stuff. That's okay, Yeah,
(05:19):
you know the best time. The best time to plant
a tree is ten years ago or right now, you know.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
I think it's just listening to it now and going
like oh and understanding it from that perspective.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
Yeah. Absolutely, we're not judging you for it. And you might'
have been aware of it.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
You might have been caught up in this group and
been like it is I've been talking like that.
Speaker 3 (05:34):
It's awful.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
This Chris guy thought he was doing the right thing.
I think it's also important to demonize this Chris Griffin.
I think he's he's saying that, thinking I'm being a
great partner through all of this.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
Yeah, yeah, arguably yes, be the scariest part about it though.
Thanks so much for coming in.
