and he wasn't home. She can't get a hold of him.
The cops start the investigation. They can't find obviously, they're
looking for the body. Obviously it's a disappearance. So they're diving.
They've got divers dispatched to the lake, they've got helicopters
into the woods, full scale operations untill eventually one of them.

They start going through his laptop after fifty four days,
so they've been looking for a fifty four four days.

They didn't find kayak or anything.

They couldn't find anything. Oh so it's really distressing obviously
for everyone. Anyway, they go to his laptop and they
find well, there's a lot of content from this European.

Anyway, So they eventually reach out to this woman and
they say, look, can you call us because this is

Okay, So essentially he gets out of the kayak. He
then drives a rubber dinghy back to the shore, deflates
the dingy, then carries it with him, disposes of the dinghy,
and then catches a bus to the Canadian border.

He then goes into Canada and then takes a flight
over to Georgia.

friday a big bunch of flowers from work. ARRIVED i

to be. Grieving and went to work On monday and
he said why are you? Here aren't you doing funeral?

altitude if for some reason the other parachute isn't.

Yet, yeah and so my instructor pulled our parachute too,
late which meant it started coming out at the exact
same time that the emergency chute was coming out on its.
Own and so because of, that they got old. Tangled
the cords got, tangled and they wrapped around the parachute
so they couldn't. Open but not only, that they actually
wrapped around the instructor's neck and strangled. Him oh, yeah

and so he was unconscious for the whole, fall which
is why he couldn't cut one away or untangle it
or whatever you would normally do in that, situation not
that that normally, happens so it, Was, yeah he wasn't
able to do.

too much about spinal cord injuries have the view of, like,
well it's because you were so determined or so positive
or you worked really hard that you learned to walk.
Again and that's a really lovely, idea AND i know
people mean well by, that but it's just simply not the.

the most, positive determined, people and they haven't had that same.

Chance SO i just got really really lucky with the
way my spinal cord was.

DAMAGED i didn't heal, completely so a lot of the
muscles in my legs are still a lot weaker than
they used to, be and my calves are still completely,
paralyzed which is, random so that MEANS i can't go
up on my. TOES i still also can't feel from
the waist, down which is.

Strange so, yeah.

SO i didn't realize it was possible to have one
without the, other but apparently it is so good.

The motor neural, pathway but not the. Sensory not the.

Sensory, Yes and a few days after the, accident AND
i just found out THAT i was never going to walk.
Again before my, ACCIDENT i loved. Running running was my
favorite thing to, do and the morning of the, ACCIDENT
i had told myself THAT i was going to get
up that morning and go for a. RUN i was
just feeling lazy and couldn't be, bothered AND i was

so angry and felt so much, regret and SO i
got out the notes up in my phone and wrote
those five words to, myself AND i, wrote if you,
can you, Must and WHAT i meant specifically was if
you can ever run, again you. MUST i completely forgot
about that note WHEN i found it, again and WHEN
i read, IT i, thought past Young emma was so

wise because even though to this DAY i still can't,
RUN i think those words can apply to so many other.

it to be bigger than me Because i'm so lucky

to have healed and to have the chance to even
walk a, marathon AND i know that so many people
with spinal cord injuries do not have that, Chance and
more than, ANYTHING i want other people to have that
moment THAT i did of taking their first steps. Again
SO i wanted to do it as a fundraising effort
to raise money for The Peri Cross, foundation who were
working towards a cure for spinal cord. Injuries so my

walk and SO i get really sore, muscles like in

my back and in my hip and everything because it's always.

and then I saw it at the supermarket two weeks later.

a lake in a kayak and then fake drowning.

So basically he goes out kayaking. This guy, Ryan Borgwart
is his name, shocking name anyway. So Borgwart out into
the lake on this kayak. He's in a relationship with
this woman. He's also fallen in love with this woman
from Georgia and Eastern Europe. Happened I met her online
she's all his dreams come true? Okay, was it her idea?

What's that you should fake your death? Well maybe I
don't know. So anyway, so his wife then calls the
police and she's.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Really distressed because she found the kayak or he just
went missing at that point, he.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
Was on this kayak. She knows that she woke up
and he wasn't home. She can't get a hold of him.
The cops start the investigation. They can't find obviously, they're
looking for the body. Obviously it's a disappearance. So they're diving.
They've got divers dispatched to the lake, they've got helicopters
into the woods, full scale operations untill eventually one of them.

They start going through his laptop after fifty four days,
so they've been looking for a fifty four four days.

They didn't find kayak or anything.
Speaker 4 (01:58):
They couldn't find anything. Oh so it's really distressing obviously
for everyone. Anyway, they go to his laptop and they
find well, there's a lot of content from this European.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
Woman Georgian of a sexual nature. Potentially would he okay?
Speaker 4 (02:13):
Anyway, So they eventually reach out to this woman and
they say, look, can you call us because this is
very important.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Oh yes, he's with her. Oh no, yes, at this stage,
how did he get his How did he get a
flight over there?
Speaker 4 (02:29):
Okay, So essentially he gets out of the kayak. He
then drives a rubber dinghy back to the shore, deflates
the dingy, then carries it with him, disposes of the dinghy,
and then catches a bus to the Canadian border.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
Oh my god, whereby.
Speaker 4 (02:45):
He then goes into Canada and then takes a flight
over to Georgia.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
Wow. Yes, yes, yes, anyway, I've been well done. Impressive.

Yeah, you don't conduct it obviously, terrific what he's done.

But he's thought it through, hasn't he?

Yes, And then and he gets contacted by the cops
and then he's like, I've done a really bad thing.
Oh yeah, goes back home and yeah, he said what
you said before. He said, in the end, it came
down to the fact that I couldn't face this feeling
of failure that I had about my own life and
the fact that I was going to really upset someone.

Oh yeah, I think you're still upset her, a bit
mate by your own death.

Absolutely, yeah. Yeah.

And also he said the Green Lake County Police Force
on a wild goose chase for fifty four days.

Egg on their face a tiny bit maybe, No, well yeah,
egg on their face.

But like you know, that's that's taxpayers resources. Anyway, he's
got to pay the cops thirty thousand dollars US. Yeah,
fair enough, just for looking for it.

Fair enough. And it looks like he's going to be
in jail for a little while. Oh there you go. Yeah.

Anyway, just break up with people, I reckon. That's the
message there, I reckon. If you want to with someone,

It can be a really hard conversation, so I do
understand that. But I think ghosting people is just not okay,
and faking your own death not a good thing to do. Yeah, anyway,

One Very they're often quite embarrassing because it means you. Cowardly,

yes it means, exactly you haven't faced up to something
and you've had to fake your way out of, it
which again we'll give points for. That there's cute us
BUT i realized that it's embarrassing to admit.

i've done it And i'm a better person. Now AND
i would like to Think i'm in that. Category so,
BASICALLY i was with a girl for four years and
were one of those relationships where we didn't pass wind
in front of each, other wouldn't go to the toilet
number twos around each, other which is that kind of.
Thing and there was a particular occasion where she was
in the. Shower she came out AND i had pass.

WIND i was very sick in the, guts and it
was the smell was, horrible, right really. Bad, okay she came,
Out she's, like what's that? Smell AND i, said, YEP
i can smell it. TOO i think the sewerage has.
Exploded and so THEN i like fully committed to the
bit and the plumber came over and like had to
like search for the sewerage that had Explo, yeah and
then at one point when she was at a new,

about the size Of, canberra so couldn't go out on

to be. Grieving and went to work On monday and
he said why are you? Here aren't you doing funeral?

i just did not think it was possible to.

Yeah, yeah WELL i don't know if that tends to,
happen but, YEAH i didn't get knocked unconscious at, all
either during the fall or the, landing SO i can.
Remember you can remember the whole thing, Perfectly and even
though that was a pretty traumatic thing to be awake
for and not a great memory to, HAVE i feel,
like in, Hindsight i'm actually really really thankful THAT i

can remember, it because it means THAT i will forever
know exactly how it feels to think for certain That
i'm about to, die AND i can remember how SCARED i.
Felt but even more than, THAT i can remember the
strength and the urgency of yearning THAT i felt to,
live and what a waste it was to THINK i
only had ten seconds, left and that seems like a

really obvious thing to, Know but it was until that
MOMENT i didn't realize just how MUCH i wanted to,
live just how MUCH i didn't want to, die and
how much more there WAS i wanted to.

FIRST i, Landed, YEAH i landed just on my belly
because my instructor is strapped to my.

Which was quite rude of, him not his. Father but
then we're in the middle of The Swiss. ALPS i
assumed the instructor was dead because he still wasn't, responding but,
thankfully thankfully he. Survived he was still just unconscious at this,
stage BUT i thought it's up to me to go
and find. HELP i tried to stand, up and in

that MOMENT i REALIZED i was completely paralyzed from the waist. Down,
yeah my abs weren't working to roll. OVER i just
tried to wriggle my, toes but nothing.

Happened oh, Terrifying.

Yeah very, yeah very. Terrible it was so confusing and.
Speaker 9 (40:54):
Terrifying it just felt so unlike any kind of pain
had experienced before that it felt so all. CONSUMING i remember,
THINKING i wonder if it's possible to die from?

Pain what did you land? On just?

Grass just.

What injuries did you end up with after falling from
a Helic?
Speaker 9 (41:16):
SO i broke my, spine which was the main, thing
and they told ME i had an l one spinal cord,
injury SO i was now a. Paraplegic and then they
told me what? ELSE i broke my, pelvis my, sternum my,
sacrum and a lot of my. Teeth but THAT'S i
was weirdly unscathed in terms of like scratches and.

Limbs so you still? Paralyzed, now AM? I?
Speaker 1 (41:42):

Yeah did you see ME i swishing?

LUCKY i have no idea how again got so lucky
and somehow regained the ability to, walk which they didn't
think would.

Happen and when people ask me why that, IS i
truly don't.

Know AND i think some people who maybe don't know
too much about spinal cord injuries have the view of, like,
well it's because you were so determined or so positive
or you worked really hard that you learned to walk.
Again and that's a really lovely, idea AND i know
people mean well by, that but it's just simply not the.

Many people with spinal cord injuries that you know are
the most, positive determined, people and they haven't had that same.
Speaker 11 (42:28):
Chance SO i just got really really lucky with the
way my spinal cord was.
Speaker 9 (42:32):
DAMAGED i didn't heal, completely so a lot of the
muscles in my legs are still a lot weaker than
they used to, be and my calves are still completely,
paralyzed which is, random so that MEANS i can't go
up on my. TOES i still also can't feel from
the waist, down which is.
Speaker 11 (42:49):
Strange so, yeah.
Speaker 9 (42:51):
SO i didn't realize it was possible to have one
without the, other but apparently it is so good.
Speaker 3 (42:57):
The motor neural, pathway but not the. Sensory not the.
Speaker 9 (43:00):
Sensory, Yes and a few days after the, accident AND
i just found out THAT i was never going to walk.
Again before my, ACCIDENT i loved. Running running was my
favorite thing to, do and the morning of the, ACCIDENT
i had told myself THAT i was going to get
up that morning and go for a. RUN i was
just feeling lazy and couldn't be, bothered AND i was

so angry and felt so much, regret and SO i
got out the notes up in my phone and wrote
those five words to, myself AND i, wrote if you,
can you, Must and WHAT i meant specifically was if
you can ever run, again you. MUST i completely forgot
about that note WHEN i found it, again and WHEN
i read, IT i, thought past Young emma was so

wise because even though to this DAY i still can't,
RUN i think those words can apply to so many other.

why CAN'T i still do this dream That i've always.
Had BUT i just really wanted to do it as
a challenge to myself to see how HARD i can
push myself mentally to see how STRONG i can get my,
body but MAINLY i wanted to do. IT i wanted
it to be bigger than me Because i'm so lucky

to have healed and to have the chance to even
walk a, marathon AND i know that so many people
with spinal cord injuries do not have that, Chance and
more than, ANYTHING i want other people to have that
moment THAT i did of taking their first steps. Again
SO i wanted to do it as a fundraising effort
to raise money for The Peri Cross, foundation who were
working towards a cure for spinal cord. Injuries so my

like oh it's really starting to get hard.

Now it's just SUDDENLY i GET i, GUESS i guess we're.

Done, Yeah and SO i think the biggest thing for
me will just be. Endurance because my, muscles even THOUGH
i can't feel, it but they fatigue a lot quicker
than they used. To and BECAUSE i walk with a,
LIMP i get Really i'm quite one lopsided WHEN i,
walk and SO i get really sore, muscles like in

my back and in my hip and everything because it's always.

It's a bit off. Balance SO i think just general
endurance and. Strength just my.
