Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hello, everyone, Welcome to the Willow What Are You behind
the Scenes podcast, obviously the podcast where we answer your
questions and you can hit U up with any questions.
Just d m us Instagram, will and Woody if you've
got a question or a question as we call it
in this podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Woods Now, Tommy, you have the question today from the
question box.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
I thought i'd dig a bit deeper. So I see
you guys taking them off the top.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Yeah, that's well, it's the standard way to pick something
out of a box.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
Le'd say, Oh really, well, yeah, I just take the
first thing.

Speaker 4 (00:36):
You know.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
The rule is take the first one, so it doesn't
matter if we take it from the top or the bottom.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
Tom.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Oh, well, in my world it's usually quite different whether
it's the top or bottom.

Speaker 5 (00:45):
Well, well done, you flipped on us there.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
You good.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Give us the question, tom If you go back in
time to the day before you met each other, would
you choose to meet again or travel the unknown path?
And I, yeah, well, obviously we're pretty happy with meeting
like we wouldn't we wouldn't be in this or travel
the unknown path sounds horrific speaking to a very anxious

(01:13):
person like why, well, hey, things are going really well.

Speaker 5 (01:17):
You love your job, you have a great relationship with Will.
You know what, You've got a beautiful trouble. We both
got beautiful children.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Like really like we we you know, when you look
at what we've got, we're incredibly grateful for what we're
going through.

Speaker 5 (01:27):
Or would you like to throw all of that away
to the.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
Hey, guys, things are going really well at the moment,
we like, you know, couldn't be more grateful. I mean,
I feel like this is almost like this is like
the antidote to gratitude practice. Here the grass is always greener,
boys stuff, there are other things if you had to
give me. I feel as if this question would have
been enriched by like a solid alternate Hypothetical'll.

Speaker 5 (01:57):
Tell you what I will entertain.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Let's let's entertain what the other option could be, so
what it would look like. Well, so if we never met,
that means we never would have done these To really
go back to the history of Will and Woody, we
did these comedy sketch shows together and that kind of
led to radio.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
That's a very short stategory.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
I'm going to say that the kind of the turning
point or the point where we both because we were
both doing our own thing. We met at school and
then we left school and did our own thing.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
So Woody, you were a pet.

Speaker 5 (02:27):
Studying personal trainer, one of the absolute worst.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
Studying commerce, studying commerce and sports science.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
The biggest feedback from my boss when I was a
personal trainer was, mate, You've got to go to the
bathroom and give yourself a rinse that you smell like
alt the whole line. But that's only because I was
like twenty years old and I'd start at six am,
and like, obviously I was going out the night before,
responding responsibly.

Speaker 5 (02:49):
Of course, but it just comes out in your sweat.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
So that's what Woody was doing, and I was doing.
I was doing law, so we were kind of and
working as a barista. So I think that the moment
then was I'd done one of these lot review things
and I was like, all these comedy sketch shows, and
I was like, what do you do?

Speaker 3 (03:10):
Want to come and do it?

Speaker 2 (03:11):
So I think I didn't have much on I think
I've been fired from the gym of his well.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
I think, actually, funnily enough, I remember you're telling me
that you nearly didn't rock up to your rehearsal because
you were too hungover.

Speaker 5 (03:20):
It was a bit of a trend. Yeah, I was
very different animal, but yes, that is true. I arrived
and was like, I just can't, I can't do this.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
So I think if we're going to like let's let's
go to the let's go to the turning point, you
have to be me asking you to go and do it, okay, yeah,
and then you being too hungover and saying.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
No, okay.

Speaker 5 (03:41):
So if I went home that don't drink kids.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
I mean, if this is a course of the retail
for drinking, it'll ruin your life.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
And I honestly wish thirty five of my I wish
I could tell twenty year old mey late, there's no
joy here.

Speaker 5 (03:52):
Stop doing the thing that you think you should be doing.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
Anyway, a lot of pain behind those eyes. But so
if I went home, what I'm I doing?

Speaker 3 (04:01):
So you go home that day? We probably because I
feeling when I reached out to you for that thing.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
We I don't think we'd drifted a Yeah, we'd probably
drifted apart a bit. Like you were a year older
than me. I was doing my own thing at a
different union. You would have your own thing in a
different union. We may have crossed paths a bit at
the football club.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Or we were going out when we were going out,
when we were going out socially, I thought you were
saying that when we dated, that's when i'd see you out.

Speaker 4 (04:26):
Yeah, sorry, let's not reopen that box.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
So I feel as if we almost probably would have
kept kind of like floating into our different directions.

Speaker 5 (04:37):
So what do you think you'd be doing now? I
think that's the what would.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
You be saying?

Speaker 3 (04:41):
Is in like the great unknown?

Speaker 1 (04:43):
I feel as if it is a reality whereby we
probably weren't in.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
Each other's lives all that much. But what are you
terrifying to think of it?

Speaker 5 (04:50):
But what are you doing? Like are you a lawyer?

Speaker 1 (04:53):
I probably still know that I hated doing law because
I still did, because you remember, I was working at
a I was working in a firm at the time
called Herbert Gear what he used to call it Herbert's Gears,
and he used to hate it.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
He used to hate it because I used to go
because I was still kept the dream of being a
lawyer alive. And I used to knock off to go
and do my clerkship in.

Speaker 5 (05:16):
Late night radio. And I was like we need to
prepare for the weekend.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
Herbert's gears. That's right, we're doing late no wait radio.
And sometimes he would come over to.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
My apartment early and he'd put his testicles on a
on like a Herbert gear. That's what's not all that
I had and take a photo of them and when
you sorry, we send them to me. And then he'd say,
that's my balls on Herbert's gears.

Speaker 5 (05:38):
That she is quite funny, that she is pretty funny.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
But when when Will says my apartment, he is referring
to his family home, by the way, because you were
living with you, I was like, Will's apartment, you actually
never lived in an apartment. That was you were upstairs
in your family home, in your king single bed. If
I recall Essendon bombers with bench sheets as well, red
rock racing dead in a little spaceship. And he called

(06:03):
it his apartment when he was out, Do you want
to come back to my apartment? Is your apartment just
the upstairs bedroom in your family home?

Speaker 3 (06:13):
Coming up?

Speaker 1 (06:15):
So he wouldn't do law no, because I did a
week of that clerkship and I was like, this is
not what I want to do.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
But again maybe it's because I was so.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
Strong about that because we were doing a radio We're
doing late night radio when I started doing a clerkship,
and I was like, I clearly know what job I prefer.
So maybe that gave me the confidence to say, you know,
put my balls on Herberts gears. Yeah, because I feel
like if I didn't have another thing going on, then
maybe I would have been like, hey, look.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
This is it.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
This is what you've been, this is all you've got,
is what you've been training for. Yeah, you know, muscle up,
carry on, I'm trying to.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
I don't think I would have stuck with the exercise
science stuff. I had this idea in my head at
that age I reckon where I was going to be
the head trainer of an elite sporting club. That was
kind of the direction, and most specifically Melbourne Football Club.

Speaker 5 (07:00):
I was going to be the head guy. I was
going to be the head trainer or whatever.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
So that was like there, like, look, big vibe guy,
good camaraderie, knowledge not so good, but yeah, get around
the boys.

Speaker 5 (07:10):
So that was kind of the trajectory.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
But I think the older I got them more, I
was like, I actually don't really I'm not that into
this stuff that was like I sort of became a
bit of a jock at school just because I thought
it was the right thing to do with survival tactics.
Not really what I'm keen on, I actually think because
when we got fired from a job, well when we
got fired from radio and we had a patch there
where we were doing nothing, I became very close to

(07:34):
becoming the Brisbane There was a Brisbane Zoo and I
was going to be the guy to warm up the
crowd before the croc Wrangler came out, that's right, And
I'd got a few interviews for that, and I was
about to fly to Brisbane to go and do like
just do a trial run.

Speaker 5 (07:56):
I can't really remember, but it was. It was one
of the big ones in Brisbane.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
Think in for the North. How much does that pay?

Speaker 2 (08:01):
Would he?

Speaker 5 (08:03):
From memory?

Speaker 2 (08:03):
Not not amazing. And because I wasn't the main act.
I was just the guy that came on. Everyone was like, yeah,
this dickhead of bringing out there.

Speaker 1 (08:12):
You warm me up the crowd, You warming up the
cross like you I'm warming up a bit of croc
bait as well, like you're teasing the crocs out of
the water as well.

Speaker 5 (08:19):
A little bit a little bit of that, like, oh, there.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
Are some big boys in here ostro, don't attack, don't
attack the woodstuff.

Speaker 5 (08:25):
But that kind of thing. And then like that obviously
be some kids there at the show, and I.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
Do people are like the most depressed people on the planet.
Like they are like they are they're dead in their eyes.
Those people, they're the kind of people it one day
you like threw himself into the crocing closure, you know,
like that's it's kind of where it feels like I
was headed.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
He was so committed to the job that he knew
it to be entertaining, so he threw himself in the
crocs with the crocs. But no, but I but I
actually think, funnily enough, I would have been pretty good
at it.

Speaker 5 (08:50):
But yeah, make it still come to that dream come true?

Speaker 3 (08:52):
Would you if you'd like, I.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
Mean, the idea of it did seem like fun making
that happen if you if you like, Because I do
think I would be quite good at it. But again,
I wasn't the main act. It was almost like Steve
Ellen's the main act. Yeah, so I'd bring out I'd
be like, I'll bring out Rob now I imagine, Yeah,
get out of here Rob and then you know, yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
So you'd be a crock trainer.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
So ill I wouldn't call it crockdowner. I'd be the
warm up act for a crock trainer, right.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
Yeah, nice, that sounds good.

Speaker 1 (09:19):
I feel like, yeah, if I was, I would I reckon,
I would have gone hard into going to like it.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
I probably would have studied again.

Speaker 5 (09:25):
You just would have gone back into study's deep in study.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
Found the mountain of books to hide under.

Speaker 5 (09:33):
I prefer the warm up act for a croc handler
to deep in study.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
I think I was pretty close to applying to go
to like go and like be a director, go to
directing school's director like going like they're like a film director.

Speaker 5 (09:45):
Oh, film director. Oh yeah, something like that, hockon.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
That would have been it. So you would have been
maybe what I would have directed you one day for.

Speaker 5 (09:52):
That would have been a good intro job.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
Direct the warm up guy for the crop, do a
documentary on the warm up guy for the croc handler.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
Directing a Kroc document entry. And then our parts came
together again, and you know, radio happens. But ten years later,
bang yeah, we met on the set of uh.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
Crocker Block.

Speaker 4 (10:17):
Crocker Bloc fora into documentary making. I like when we
just does the sweep of the logies Crocker Blog, I
win best Best New Talent. I think it's the award
for crocer Blog. You win if best director is.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
An award at the logis Clean And then it's like,
hang on a second. Someone goes, you boys should do
radio radio. Crocer Block loved it.

Speaker 3 (10:38):
There you go.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
So even if we dived into the great unknown ten
years ago, we would have been brought back together.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (10:45):
Yeah, and which path do you prefer?

Speaker 5 (10:48):
Actually? That one?

Speaker 2 (10:48):
That one's probably fun you Yeah, we're doing the sweep
of the logis, which is good fun.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
Yep, which is reverse engineered it. We've got no radio
success at that stage though, so let's.

Speaker 5 (10:57):
You know, yeah, it's hard to it's hard to tell,
okat it. Well, you might. We might not have met
our partners. That's a big one.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
I would have met my partner, how you would never
in wa know what I mean? And I don't think
I would have met Mim because I'm in Brisbane doing
being the warm.

Speaker 5 (11:14):
Up act for a croc handler. I don't know why.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
But in that world that's so funny that radio was
like you know. Yeah, without radio, we don't meet partners.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
I think in my other world, I just I see
myself having an affair with the croc handler's partner. I
don't know why, and I'm probably going into it too much, but.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
He will see you guys.

Speaker 4 (11:31):
Okay, at least you're not having an affair with a
croc I'm reading too much golling over all, Right, we'll

Speaker 3 (11:36):
See you guys, see you guys, right,
