Speaker 2 (01:22):
Welcome back, America. I'm Eric Eggers alongside Peter Schweitzer. We're
filling in for Shawn Handy on the Shawn Handy radio program.
You normally can find us hosting our podcast called The
Drill Down, which you can find alongside lots of other
breaking news articles at the drilledown dot com. But today, unfortunately,
we have the art and privilege but also the responsibility
to kind of walk through the tragic news of the

(01:43):
passing of two National guardsmen on the day before Thanksgiving.
Not the news, Peter Schweitzer, we're hoping to have to
talk about today.

Speaker 4 (01:49):
No, that's right, that's right. We have a guest joining
us now, Congressman Tim Burchett from Tennessee. He's one of
the most outspoken and candid members of Congress. Congressman, could
you give us your reaction on the shooting in Washington
and do you think this is part of a broader
problem with the atmospherics in our national politics these days?

Speaker 5 (02:11):
Yes, sir, I do. I think that what you're seeing
as a manifestation of what the Democrats have been throwing
out for at least four years longer than that. Actually,
you know, they've demonized anybody law enforcement or in our military.
You have members of Congress calling for members of the

(02:33):
military to defy the president an open public. You've got
a bunch of gutless Republicans that are like throwing a
rock over the fence and running home and hiding behind
their mama's skirt, and you know, we've got Democrats calling
us Nazis. You see in all the threats, I myself
have been threatened, and you know, and I've been through

(02:54):
all that, the bomb scares and everything, and then you
see the final result is some of our brave men
are getting shot the day before Dad Gum Thanksgiving Day.
And it is clearly something that America needs to address,
and they need to address it at the ballot box.
And they need to quit sending these far left Democrats

(03:14):
and these gutless Republicans to Washington. You need to get
somebody down there's some guts that's going to stand up
for this dad Gum country and or we're going to
lose it. I mean, we're looking at a race in
Tennessee in just a couple of weeks, a special election
and a thing that Trump won I think fifteen vote,
fifteen points, and you know, and currently it's neck and neck,

(03:35):
and it's got Matt van Apps, a veteran is running
against a literally a far left is just an anarchistic
and that was educated in Knoxville, Tennessee, where I come from.
So I mean, we are losing our country and this
is just a this is just more proof of it.
And it's my heartfelt sincere things goes out to the

(03:59):
brave men and women of our National Guard, and I
pray that the Lord heals those people and brings that
gutless shooter to justice.

Speaker 4 (04:07):
Well, I would echo that, And as we were saying earlier,
it seems to me the division in the country is
no longer one of what they used to call loyal opposition.
When you call people Nazis, you can't be too surprised
when some unhinged people decide to take military action. Congressman,
we wanted to have you on because you have been

(04:27):
I think one of the real shining lights on this
issue of insider trading by members of Congress on the
stock market. We first profiled this back in twenty eleven.
We've been monitoring this Nancy Pelosi over the last ten years.
If you look at her stock market portfolio performance traded
by her husband, the stock market indexes have gone up
two hundred and fifty percent during that ten year period.

(04:50):
The Pelosi's portfolio has gone up seven hundred and thirty
five percent. They're not only trading stocks that are doing
highly leveraged options trading by Congressman is it's so hard
to get a bill like this passed, and do you
think it will actually passed and be signed by the president.

Speaker 5 (05:09):
Well, first of all, we're gutless. As I've stayed, there's
bipartisan support for this. When Tim Burchett and Alexander Acasio
Cortez or arm in arm on an issue, that tells
you something. But you can also see the other side
is arm in arm and we have our leadership told
Luna and myself that you know, this could cause us

(05:29):
to lose the majority, This could cause the Literally the
words were, I think the words were, we could lose
the Republic over this. This is how stupid and gutless
we are. We're greedy. Look, more people have played professional
baseball in this country than have been to the United
States Congress. Every day, every day I walk on the
floor of that Congress, and I think how lucky I am.

(05:52):
My daddy fought in the Pacific in the Second World War.
My mama was just a little country girl, didn't have
electricity until she's a senior in high school. Oldest brother,
Roy was thirty three, got cut down by the Nazis
while daddy was off fight the Japanese in the Marine
Corps in the Pacific. My mom actually flew an airplane
during the Second World War. So when I walk on
that floor, I know the shoulders I'm standing on, and

(06:14):
I know the sacrifice. And that's not a bunch of
bs rabble rousing. That is the honest to goodness truth.
And to think that we're gonna we can allow this
to occur. We're paid a very nice salary, and I
get sick and tired of hearing members say, you know
how much money this has costing me to be here. Well, dad,
gum it, go home and earn it. You know, I
gave it. It's funny. I gave a skateboard. I make skateboards,

(06:36):
and I always tell people it's cheaper than a psychiatrist.
But I have and from about twelve ten o'clock at night,
maybe three or four in the morning, I'm out at
one of my barns making skateboards. So I gave one
to Tulsa Gabbard so it TELSI was kind enough to
put it out. She's Hawaii and she likes to serve
and ride skateboards and stuff. So she puts it out

(06:57):
on the internet and got hundreds of people wanting these things.
So I thought, well, I'm a capitalist, I'm going to
sell skateboards. So I take my DC's chief and we
go down to speak to ethics and they say, well,
you got to get an attorney, you got to do this,
you got to do that. And basically what they're telling
me is I have to change it up. So it's
going through somebody else in my family. It can't go

(07:18):
through me aka Pelosi like sheep. And so I said, dude,
so you're telling me, if I want to do insider
stock trading, just become a member of Congress. But if
I want to sell skateboards, I got to hire an attorney.
And he shook his head said basically yes. And that
is the lunacy that we've created in Washington, and the
arrogance that we're just going to put something in a

(07:41):
spouse's or a kid's or a cousin's name, and all
of a sudden, it's just Katie bar the door brother.
You can do whatever you want. I'm going to propose
the legislation. I don't know if they'll go anywhere, just
to say if you want to do business, do business,
just disclose it to the American public. Let them decide,
let the voters decide if in fact it's a legitimate
business or in fact you're using that as some sort

(08:02):
of leverage. I doubt anybody's gonna sway me, sway my
boat by buying a skateboard front me. But that if
that's the case, then let's put it out to the
American public and let them know. And well, you know,
we created these crazy rules and laws to protect us,
and the American public is waking up. But no, I
don't think it'll pass. We'll pass a tough version, maybe

(08:22):
the Senate will either not take it up, or they'll
pass a tougher version or a less tougher version, and
then it'll go into some sort of conference and it'll
never come out.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
Well, that's you could understand why that would be the case.
It's not the best news the American people could hear today.
But just to be clear, you know, we follow this.
Last year, there was a record nine two hundred and
sixty one trades made by members of Congress. This year,
we don't have the updated for just exactly twenty twenty five,
but in the last three hundred and sixty five days,

(08:52):
thirteen thousand trades, so members of Congress are trading at
to use of representive burchess phrase Katie bar the door.
But what do you to the best that you can?
And just briefly, because we do want to ask you
about Ukraine deal? But why do you think they're saying
you could, like, what's the best argument you've heard against
your bill?

Speaker 5 (09:12):
I can't make enough money up here. I've got my
kids in college. I need to do that to support them.
So you're saying, you know, we need to do something
that's shady so that you can stay in Congress. That's
the arrogance of everybody in Congress. There's four hundred and
thirty five of us. There must be four hundred and
thirty four of us that think they're going to be
the next speaker. I always watch these guys when they

(09:33):
first get elected in gals and they're strutting around the
hall with their entourage, and they think they're going to
get a call from the President to negotiate the next
trade deal with North Korea. And that's just not the case.
You know, Congress is about it's not about putting the
best players in. It's about who can kiss the most
ass and who can raise the most money both parties.
And you know if the NFL was Congress Peyton Manning

(09:56):
would still be waiting to get in.

Speaker 6 (09:58):
Brother.

Speaker 4 (10:00):
Well, we are talking to Congressman Tim burch At always
candid and always open. I want to talk to you
about the Ukraine deal that Trump is proposing. Obviously, things
are very very fluid. If you just look at what's
happened to Ukraine from twenty fourteen, when the Russians first
went into Crimea under Barack Obama to today, their population

(10:22):
has dropped by nine million people, which is almost twenty
percent of their population. So this is a question about
whether Ukraine is even going to exist. Congressman, what do
you think about the deal? Are you optimistic? Where do
you think this is going to go?

Speaker 5 (10:38):
Yes? And I'm fired up about the deal because Donald
Trump is the ultimate deal Miker and the war pimps
and Congress that have their money invested in this thing
need to be ashamed and they need to be exposed.
That's another reason they don't want to you know. I
said to him, I said, all you guys up here
rattling your cybers about this, about this war that you

(10:59):
all couldn't even find on the dad gum globe five
years ago. I said, when China rolls on Taiwan, let's
see what you do. Then let's see about your war mongering.

Speaker 4 (11:08):
Man.

Speaker 5 (11:09):
Look, this is where where this is a portfolio war
Americans are getting rich off of it. I mean, I've
heard Democrats and Republicans say, you say, well, this is
great for our economy. You know they're buying their missiles
from us. Well, killing people is not great for anybody, brother,
It's not good for your soul. One daddy killed people
in combat. He killed many Japanese soldiers when he was

(11:31):
a kid in the Second World War. And he told me,
he said, buddy, young old men make decisions and young
men die. And that's exactly what's going on with this thing.
It has nothing to do with what's right or wrong.
Russia's GDP is somewhere between Francis and Canada's. Trump gets putin,
he understands, and you got Republicans and Democrats of course,
undermining everything he does. Over there. He'll say some things.

(11:54):
He's got to get people to the table. You don't
stroke an ego by beating somebody over the head and
telling them what a dirt bag they are. You bring
them to the table and get them going. It's kind
of like his deal on Obamacare. You know, for the
first time in fifteen years, somebody's proposed to change and
everybody's jumping all over him because he's putting something on

(12:14):
the table. And that's how you negotiate, you at you
negotiate from strength. But you've got to have a plan.
Trump clearly has a plan and it could end this
thing by the end of the year. Yeah, Russia and
Ukraine are both going to be unhappy. We used to
have a sing when I was in the State legislature.
But both sides are a little uneasy about something. It's
probably a pretty good deal. People are ying every day

(12:34):
needlessly in this war and Trump. It wouldn't have happened
if Trump was in the White House. And it did
and Trump was not in the White House, and you know,
and Biden all he could do is send them more missiles.
One more thing about the unethical nature of Congress when
we went to war with them. I mean, when Ukraine
and Russia went to war, the Biden gave our missile

(12:57):
defense system to Ukraine. I don't either way back or
forwards on that. It's not my issue, of course, I
never voted for a cent for Ukraine in this war.
They turned around and had to replenish our missile defense system,
multi billion dollar no bid contract. Who owned stock in
that those missile defense companies? American congressman both sides of

(13:19):
the aisle, and some apparently had bought it just a
couple of weeks before the president President issued that executive
order that was under Biden. So this thing is is
evil from top to bottom. Trump's getting us out of
all the wars all the way across this globe, and
people can't stand it. The Democrats just can't stand it,
and they they're going to do anything they can to

(13:40):
keep us in this in this war. And it's and
it's it's it needs to end today ends today. The
only people that are that are profit that are that
are coming out ahead on this are members of Congress
that have invested in this thing in Wall.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
Street, Congressman Tim Burchie, we got thirty seconds before we
have to go, but I just want to ask you.
There's been a lot of reporting about how unhappy memory
of your House Republican Caucus are because of Speaker Johnson,
because of Donald Trump. They said to expect a lot
of a lot more resignations. Is that something you think
is accurate or is that sort of part of the

(14:13):
big deep state pushing back ins what Donald Trump's trying
to do.

Speaker 5 (14:15):
That is the deep state pushing back against Donald Trump.
You know the ones that are leaving. I say good riddance,
good riddance. They get their ass kiss the whole time.
Excuse my language. My daughter's not listening to this. So
I can get by with this, Well mine is. I'll
put it. I'll tell her I have an io. You
and your swear jar. That'll be. But I got a

(14:37):
swear jar full of avow yous. No, but the look,
we've just got to get out of this thing. We've
got to get out of this thing. And and members,
excuse me, members, I got back on the war. Members
have too much Mountain day. Members of Congress, you know,
they like having their butts kiss, and it gets a
little rough. Get out. Look, it wasn't meant to be

(15:01):
a locketime. Fred Thompson said, you pass laws, you go home,
and you live underneath them. The trouble is the worst
thing they ever did in Washington, DC. Put air conditioning
in the Capitol building. They've made it a year round
gig and now it's just going on and on an
extra innings.

Speaker 4 (15:15):
We thank you, Congressman. We appreciate you very much for
joining us. We've got to go to a break. Happy Thanksgiving, sir,
thanks for joining us.

Speaker 2 (15:22):
He's Peter Schwitzer America or this is Sean Handyshell. We're
back right after this, keeping the Truth Alive.

Speaker 5 (15:35):
Kennedy is on right now.

Speaker 4 (16:00):
Hi, this is Peter Schweizer. I'm here with Eric Eggers.
We're filling in for Sean. Happy Thanksgiving everybody. We are
monitoring the situation in Washington, d C. To National Guard
members tragically killed. We will have updates going forward soon
and at the bottom of the hour, we're going to
be joined by Speaker Mike Schultz from Utah to talk

(16:22):
about a very interesting problem with redistricting. Some of the
judges there are trying to carve out blue districts in
the middle of red Utah.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (16:31):
You heard actually in the last segment Congressman Tim Burchan.
We thanks so much for his time, but you heard
him straight away say he believes the shooting in Washington,
DC today is, as you suggested, a direct reflection of
this larger culture of resistance and pushback being encouraged and
fomented by this aggressive left, and that pushback has taken
on an extra legal posture.

Speaker 5 (16:54):
We played this.

Speaker 2 (16:55):
Edition video at the beginning of the show about how
you've got members of Congress encouraging members of the military
to resist orders if they think they're unlawful. We've seen
in California even though there was a law that said, hey,
we think a non partisan district should draw these districts California,
and Gavenusom said, we think we know better. The same
thing Peter is happening in Utah. So it may seem like,
why are we talking about a Utah redistricting case, But

(17:17):
it's part of a larger effort that's take that's got
a lot of tentacles, and it's shaping not just the
way the districts are drawn up, but what the political
opposition might look like moving forward.

Speaker 4 (17:28):
That's right, Well, that is Eric Eggers. I'm Peter Schweizer,
who're filling in for Sean joined the conversation one e
one hundred nine four one two six. We'll be back
after this break.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
You won't hear the mainstream press talking about this stuff.

Speaker 5 (18:19):
Sean Hannity is on the radio.

Speaker 4 (18:24):
Hi, this is Peter Sweitzer. I am filling in for
Sean with Eric Eggers. We are monitoring the situation in Washington,
d C. This tragic shooting. We had a statement from
the Governor of West Virginia, Morrissey, talking about the incident
and saying that it was his belief that two guardsmen
had been killed. There now seems to be a question

(18:45):
about whether that is the case. He has issued a
new statement raising some question about that.

Speaker 2 (18:51):
Let's hope it's excellent news, but yes. Twenty six minutes ago,
Governor Patrick Morrissey, after tweeting that he was mourning the
loss of to West Virginia Now Guard troops, says, we
are now receiving conflicting reports about the condition of our
two Guard members and will provide additional updates once we
receive more complete information. Our prayers or with these brave
service members. They're families in the entire Guard community, so

(19:14):
potentially amids the day before Thanksgiving. You never want to
see anyone lose their lives. But you know, I think
we can all join as a country and pray that
these National guardsmen somehow can survive this horrific attack. The
suspect is in custody. We do expect potentially to have
a news conference on the latest on the ground in Washington,
D C. If and when that happens, we'll bring that

(19:36):
to you live. In the meantime, we do have a
Speaker of the Utah State House, Mike Schultz. It's an
interesting story that's happening there. It's another battle in the
larger war to you know, who defines the congressional representation, Peter,
You and I have talked on our podcast, The drill Down,
which you can find at the drill down dot com,
about the number of factors that influence congressional representation, including

(20:00):
the census and how illegal immigrants impact the senses in
ways most people don't realize. Speaker Schultz, we want to
hear what's happening in Utah, but first I have to
ask you. You know, you represent the state that saw
the last high profile shooting unfortunately and Charlie Kirk's tragic death.
What's your reaction to the news coming out of Washington,
D C.

Speaker 5 (20:19):
Today.

Speaker 3 (20:20):
Oh, you know, it's sad and it's terrific. I mean,
this the political violence and this this what's happening needs
to stop. And certainly, you know, the Charlie Kirk situation
that happened here in the state of Utah was such
a black guy for the state of Utah. But I
couldn't have been more proud of the way that our
state came together and mourned the loss and showed people

(20:43):
the right way to move forward. And our governor did
a great job leading that and it brought an awareness
honestly and opened up really what was happening. And you know,
the Charlie Kirk legacy lives on here in the state
of Utah. And but that being said, back to what's
happened in said Washington, it's just sickening and it needs

(21:05):
to end.

Speaker 4 (21:07):
Yeah, Speaker Schultz, I think when you call people Nazis
and other horrific names, we shouldn't be surprised if some
unhinged people, and let's face it, in a country this large,
you're going to have a few of them are going
to take violence into their own hands, believing that they
are actually doing something good and heroic by killing innocent people.
But we brought you on to talk about the situation
in Utah with redistricting. This is obviously a contentious issue.

(21:31):
It's happening in Texas, California, Indiana's talking about doing it.
Utah seems to be a little bit different because you've
had a peers. If I understand this correctly, a court
judge is basically saying, I'm going to draw up what
these congressional districts around Salt Lake City look like. Tell
us about what is going on and what action you're
planning to take.

Speaker 3 (21:53):
Yeah, Peter, Eric, thank you. I'll tell you this is
what's happening here in Utah. Everybody needs to be paid
pay attention to just how far left can actually go
and what the leftist judges are doing. Well, I'll tell
you it's unbelievable. So let me start here with the
Utah Constitution Article nine. Article nine in the Utah Constitution

(22:15):
could not be more explicit and clear that it is
the legislature's role to draw the bound boundaries for redistricting
and to provide the map. It is clear. But what
you had is you had the Legal Women Voters, a
national organization funded by Washington DC groups and funded and

(22:36):
had Washington DC attorneys that are fighting us all across
the country that you guys are reporting on that we're
seeing come in here into Utah file a lawsuit claiming
that the Utah legislature jerried jerrymandered the twenty twenty one map. Well,
what happened then was, you know, kind of back and
forth between the courts and different things. But ultimately we

(22:57):
didn't get a final ruling on We didn't get into
ruling on that until August this year, almost September. It
was actually very late August in almost September, and the
judge ruled in favor of the legal voters, said the
legislator jerry mandard throughout our twenty twenty one map. Well,
then what happened after that was even more unconstitutional. What

(23:21):
she did. She laid out her own process. This judge
laid out her own process in which forced the legislature
to redraw the maps in thirty days, and by the way,
ten of those days there had to be public comment
on the map before the legislature voted on it. So
essentially it gave us twenty days to go through the

(23:44):
whole process and redraw the maps and then public comment
for ten days and then vote on it.

Speaker 2 (23:50):
So we did that.

Speaker 3 (23:51):
We did it under protests. We're moving through the lawsuits,
but we did it under protest and said, okay, we'll
do that, so we redrew the map. The judge then
takes forty days and we start filing for August in January,
first week of January, and so these maps and the
timing need to be done in a very quick manner.

(24:11):
And so our elections officer in Utah Lieutenant governor said,
November tenth is the absolute latest that we can make
a decision. The judge took forty days to make this decision,
and on eleven PM, nineteen minutes before the end of
going to the eleventh of November, the judge issued her

(24:34):
ruling and throughout our map the legislature's map once again.
And when that happened, she then picked a map that
was drawn by the by the legal women voters, by
a far left organization that was clearly jerry manner to

(24:54):
produce one Democrat district. And because all four Democrats district
or sorry, all four congressional districts in Utah are held
by Republicans, and they jerry mandered the map to get
one Democrat district. The judge did that and picked that
map over the top of the legislature's map, and so

(25:18):
that's led us to where we're at today. And so
it's been a really difficult process, and for the judge
to draw it out to the very last minute has
really tied our hands. And if anybody thinks that was unintentional,
they need to have their head examined, because it was
clear what this judge was doing in structuring this ruling

(25:41):
to come out at the very last minute, tying our
legislature's hands are moving forward through the court appeal process
and essentially took away the voice of the people through
its elected representatives by one unelected judge.

Speaker 2 (25:53):
And because of what's happening in California, where you're seeing
them further reduced any Republican voices that exist in that
stay because of the recent ruling in Texas where you're
seeing their efforts to redraw some maps facing some additional challenges.
Each state, each seat matters. So what is the latest,
what recourse do you have? And I guess what are
you hearing from other states? If California was a response

(26:15):
to Texas, are other states saying well, hey, if they're
going to do this in Utah, then we might have
to take a look at what we're going to do
in our state.

Speaker 3 (26:21):
Well, I'm sure there are other states are absolutely watching
what's happening in Utah. I mean, when you have one
unelected judge pick a map over the top of, you know,
for three and a half million people of the state,
over the top of one hundred and four elected official
elected representatives that have been elected and sworn on an

(26:43):
office to uphold the constitution and to draw these maps.
That's certainly very very very concerning. And so we're still
going to move forward on every which way possible. We're
going to come into a special session on December ninth,
and we're still looking at what those options are in
front of us. But we're going to continue to fight

(27:06):
this through the appeal process up to our Supreme Court.
And boy, we would like to go to to the
Supreme Court to the United States as soon as possible,
because especially because of what happened in Texas. But they're
different issues. Because the Texas issue was done on the
federal courts on federal federal issues. What's happened in Utah's
done in the state courts on state issues. And so

(27:27):
we have to exhaust our full remedies inside the state
of Utah and the State of Utah Supreme courts. So
we're going to try that route. Hopefully we believe, you know,
that we have a chance there to be successful. I mean,
what this one judge has done has been overwhelmingly just
a blatant slap in the face of the Constitution. But
our ultimate goal will be to go to the Supreme

(27:49):
Court of the United States and hope if we don't
get a favorable ruling at the Utah Supreme Court, and
hopefully the Supreme Court or the United States will take
it up at that point in time. But there's a
couple other long distance things that we've got in play,
with constitutional amendments and different things that we're working on
to make sure that this never happens again in the

(28:11):
state of Utah.

Speaker 4 (28:12):
Yeah, it seems to me that the people ought to
decide how they want their congressional districts drawn, and the
legislature is the best way to demonstrate that, as opposed
to some unelected judge making that decision. And of course
in California, they had an initiative that first said we're
going to have a commission to do it. Now they
reverse that, So it should be left to the people.
Speakers showts, we appreciate joining us. Before you go real quick,

(28:35):
we want to hear something about some Thanksgiving cheer. So
what is something in the Schultz home that you guys do,
some traditions, some great meal give us some grounds for
optimism here as we're on the brink of this great holiday.

Speaker 3 (28:49):
Oh, that is a really good question, and I couldn't
be more proud to share this for those listeners, those
of you and the listeners that have been to Utah.
Utah is one of the prettiest states in the nation,
and our mountains here in the state of Utah are
absolutely unbelievable. I'm fortunate enough to be a rancher and
I own a ranch, and so we're spending Thanksgiving at

(29:13):
my ranch here in the mountains of Croydon and absolutely
unbelievable God's country. And it'll be nice to be able
to spend the time with friends and family in God's
country and some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.
So that's what we're looking for in the Schultz family.

Speaker 2 (29:31):
I think Peter Schweizer is looking for a recipe, Speaker Schultz,
but we will settle for your just flex about how
beautiful the mountains of Utah are and how wonderful the
ranch will be and you while the rest of us
will be heating up a small cold dish our microwave
in the non ranch. But we do thank you for
your work on behalf of the constituents of Utah. And

(29:54):
it is at the point that we've been making all program,
the larger fight to ensure the laws followed, because you're
now seeing more and more people on the left encourage
the opposite that So congratulations, good luck, and we'll continue
to monitor what's happening in Utah. We're also continuing to
monitor the situation Washington, d C. We're going to see
what the press conference is going to look like and

(30:14):

you on the tragic events that happened today at approximately
two to fifteen local time in Washington, d C. Where
two of our brave members of the National Guard and
the Department of War were brazenly attacked in a horrendous
act of violence. They were shot. They're in critical condition
as you can see behind me. We have assembled the

(31:47):
full force about the federal and state and local law
enforcement agencies to bring bear all of our resources to
make sure we find the perpetrators responsible for this heinous
act and make no mistake, they will be brought to justice.
Since this is an assault on a federal law enforcement officer,
this will be treated at the federal level as an
assault on a law enforcement officer. The FBI will lead

(32:09):
out on that mission with our interagency partners to include
the Department of Homeland Security, Secret Service atf DEA and
We're thankful for the Mayor's assistance in this matter. The
Metropolitan Police Department and their skills in investigating homicides and
gun shootings in this city is exceptional. We will work
together collaboratively because this is a matter of national security,

(32:30):
because it is a matter of pride. President Trump has
been informed, We've been in contact with the White House.
We will shortchange the American public with no resources, to
make sure we find and safeguard our nation's capital right
here in Washington, DC and bring anyone responsible for this
heinous act of violence to justice. I would lastly like

(32:51):
to add to the American public in the world, please
send your prayers to those brave warriors who are in
critical condition and their families. They are here serving our country.
They are here protecting every day Americans and citizens around
the world, in our nation's capital. They are the heroes
of this day, and we must remember them on this
day and every day, and their families and the sacrifice

(33:12):
they have made. I will now turn it over to
Chief Carol the Metropolitan Police Department.

Speaker 1 (33:16):
Thank you, good afternoon everyone. My name is Jeff carroll On,
the executive Assistant Chief here at the Metropolitan Police Department.
At approximately two fifteen this afternoon, members of the DC
National Guard were on high visibility patrols in the area
of seventeenth and I Street Northwest when a suspect came
around the corner, raised his arm with the firearm and

(33:39):
discharged at the National Guard members. The National Guard members,
there were other members that were in the area. They
were able to after some back and forth, able to
subdue the individual and bring them in the custody within moments.
Members of law enforcement in the area. We're also able
to assist and bring that individual into the custody at
this time.

Speaker 4 (33:57):
As the Director mentioned, this is Peter Schweizer and Eric Eggers.
We are filling in for Sean. We were listening to
the press conference being held concerning the shooting in Washington,
d C. We're going to continue to monitor that situation.
We'll be back after this break. Thanks for joining us.
