fun bringing in some of the Maler Militia callers as well,
and don't forget coming up in the third hour of
tonight's show an homage if you will, to Ben Maller
doing one of his famous bits. We will have ask
Ben an extended version with the entire support crew joining
as well. Obviously we got ran over there Mantsoblanas is

(00:46):
doing the updates. Justin Cooper producing and Iowa Sam pushing
all of the buttons. So looking forward to that. Use
the hashtag ask Ben to get those questions.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Hey, by the way, Eddie, I don't want to derail you,
but what's your favorite and least favorite? Big Ben benchmark
is benchmark? Yeah, like any sort of bit you know
what Which bit do you love the most and like
dislike the most?

Speaker 1 (01:10):
Well? Ask Ben is my favorite bid. I do enjoy
playing Malleer's Mount of Money because I kicked Ben's ass
at it fairly consistently. And I like winning and I
like Ben losing, so that's fun. Which ones do I
not care for? Uh? Let's see, what's the one Coop
that he does where you pick the story is factor fiction?

(01:31):
And not A big fan of that one.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Not a big fan.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
Not a big fan of that one. I could do
without it. Do you do you have any favorite Ben
Maller benchmarks?

Speaker 2 (01:41):
You know? I do love ask Ben. Yeah, because listen,
you get away from sports a little bit, you get
into life, you get a backstory. It's always good, always
good when that happened.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
And I like learning a little bit more about my
radio coal workers. I mean, it's rare that we hang
out outside of work. Frankly, you know, I don't know
how different that is from other jobs, but it's it's
fun to learn a little bit more about I know
a lot about Coop because we worked together for so long,
but I don't know much about Monsey. To be honest
with you, Iowa, Sam, I know you're from Iowa, but
I found out that you went to the University of

(02:14):
Iowa and I didn't even know that. So you find
things out. It's pretty fun. So that's my favorite part
of askbe.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
Just kind of yeah, at least Moncey, I know a
few fun facts. I've worked with Monzy quite a bit.
She's awesome. She's come around on Jess. You know, she
thought trash about him for a long time and then
she tried a certain flavor and she's like, these are delicious.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
She was trash.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
It's yeah, no, they are trash. It's except for this
one that I found. It was like a curvy one
and it was sharp white cheddar.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
Whoa, every flavor is delectable.

Speaker 4 (02:45):
No regular cheese, it suck sock.

Speaker 5 (02:50):
All cheese its are great. Cheddar jack is the best one.
And then and then white cheddar.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Is really good, sharp white cheddar. It was just like
a like a like a rigid headaches.

Speaker 6 (02:59):
Yeah, yeah, I know those are good. They're a little
bigger too. The squares are.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
Bigger, yes, and a little yes oh yes, yes, powdered
kind of powder es.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
I can't I can't think of cheese. It's without thinking
of a famous radio story and and Brian, you're filling
in for our old Fox Sports radio colleague Steve Zaban.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
In Milwaukee, Zabe was doing an interview with Don King,
the famous or infamous boxing promoter, and Don King was
eating cheese its while doing the interviews and he, damn
here choked on the air.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
Oh man.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
And he started choking, and Steve's like, okay, Don, He's like,
cheese it.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Oh man. If you have that audio somewhere, that is
That was a.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
Few years ago. I'm sure Steve has it somewhere that
he could play it for you. But that was that
was a phenomenal.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
I didn't know chees its had been around that long,
you know? Is it just me? I didn't know, what
are you about? Let's find out. I don't know how
long they've been around.

Speaker 6 (03:56):
I bet they've been around for forty years teen eighty three.

Speaker 5 (04:00):
Introduced in nineteen twenty one, one hundred years.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
The Ben Mallor Show not only entertaining but educational when
it comes.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
To that is insane. Yeah, I had no idea about that.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
So, Brian, we had a couple of preseason games, one
of them involving in the New England Patriots, and we've
had some interesting Patriot talk a little bit with Blind
Scott calling and talking about a possible quarterback controversy there
in mac Jones maybe not talking to Bailey Zappi and
so on and so forth. So I've heard this narrative
that Bill Belichick is on the hot seat, and I

(04:35):
think this is absurd. And it's not because I think
that Bill Belichick should have some sort of lifetime appointment
as like a Supreme Court justice or anything like that.
He can be fired just as easily as anybody else.
But I mean, he has won six Super Bowls and
he is I believe, nineteen wins away from passing Don
Shula for the all time wins list, and I think

(04:57):
the Patriots want him to break that record as head
coach of the Patriots. And the only way when I
hear someone's on the hot seat obviously that the connotation
is that he could be fired. And I just don't
see unless it turns into a complete disaster, which I
don't think it will. I think the Patriots are not
a playoff team, but I think they'll be you know,
they'll win six seven games unless it turns into a disaster.

(05:21):
I don't see Robert Kraft firing one of the legendary
coaches in NFL history. If you look at the history
of the NFL, none of those legendary coaches have ever
been fired. Like Chuck Nole did not get fired. He
retired from the Steelers, Bill Walsh retired from the forty
nine Ers. Ben Slimbardi left to take a different job.
Thany got cancer and passed away when he went to

(05:41):
go to the Redskins. Like even like Joe Gibbs when
he came back for that second run with the Redskins
and it was kind of a disaster, they didn't fire
him either. He just decided. I mean, maybe it was
one of those things where it's like, hey, Joe, it's
not really working out, maybe you want to resign. He's like, yeah,
I think it's a good idea. But these guys don't
get fired. I don't. I just cannot see it being

(06:01):
that bad that Bill Belichick would get fired by the Patriots.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
Yeah, well, I agree with that. It would have to
be a complete disaster. And I know some people will
push back and be like, oh, yeah, you don't get
a lifetime pass and all, okay, but he's been twenty
five and twenty five post Brady, and that certainly is
not ideal. But you could go around the NFL and

(06:25):
there'll be a lot of coaches that would be in
that area or worse over the last three years, and
you're not calling for their jobs. I think with Belichick,
twenty five and twenty five looks way worse than it
actually is because he has six rings with the Patriots, right,
so it makes the here and now look way worse
than it actually is. I'm not telling you twenty five

(06:47):
and twenty five is awesome, but I'm telling you it's
not like this guy better produceries freaking out of here.
Not when he has the success in the past that
he's enjoyed. You can't go from a lot of people
think he's the goat. A lot of people think he's
the greatest head coach of all time, and I don't
think you can lose sight of that, as if he's

(07:09):
been what like three and fourteen each of the last
three years, it hasn't been that bad. And I also
look at the lack of talent. Some of that is
on Belichick. A lot of people criticize him as the GM,
but as far as the coach, tell me whatever, the
other coach would be doing way better with the lack
of talent overall that the Patriots roster has. So I

(07:30):
don't think this is a coaching thing where if you
fire Belichick it's like poof instant results right there. So yeah,
I think it's an overreaction.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
Well, you did talk about the GM thing, and I
think if there is a sign that maybe something could happen,
and we've seen this before in sports, right, I mean,
maybe Phil Jackson comes to mind, where you had a
head coach who was doing double duty, right, he was
the head coach and the general manager. And Belichick has
been the GM, as you've said in Foxborough for as
long as he's been the head coach, I've leave. So

(08:01):
if it got bad and they'd missed the playoffs, I
don't know, five seasons in a row something like that,
maybe Robert Kraft goes to him and says, hey, Bill,
maybe it's time to let somebody else run the team
and you just focus on the coaching. Maybe that's a possibility.
I don't even see that happening, to be honest with you,
but maybe it's a possibility. If if that were to happen,

(08:22):
then I think maybe we'd see the riding on the
wall a little bit. But the only thing I could
see to where Bill Belichick could be fired is Robert
Kraft is eighty two years old, and he's had some
great times, obviously winning those championships. But when these guys
get a little bit older and they see the end
is coming a little bit closer, they're like, I want

(08:43):
to win one more I want to have that parade
one more time. I want to have that one more ring.
And you know, maybe there's some hot coaching prospect out
there and the timing is right, Maybe he changes his
mind right when he's he's going to turn the team
over to his son at some point. But I wonder
if if your philosophy doesn't change when you kind of

(09:03):
you know, your mortality is kind of in front of
you, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
Yeah, And look, he's close to some milestones here career
wise too. He's got two hundred and ninety eight regular
season wins, so George Halliss at three eighteen, so he's
twenty away from tying George Hallis, and he's thirty away
from tying Don Shula for the most wins ever in

(09:27):
the regular season. So is it that bad? That's the
question Robert Kraft would have to ask himself. Is it
that bad after the end of the twenty twenty three season,
when Belichick is on the doorstep of these career milestones
to say, hey, thanks for the six rings, but get
out of here. I doubt it's going to be that

(09:47):
bad in twenty three for him to say that.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
Although when you do look at the Patriots this season,
and you obviously, as a Dolphins fan, pay very close
attention to the AFC East, it also would not be
out of the a possibility for them to finish dead
last night. Oh no, I mean, as a matter of fact,
I mean I haven't really looked at all of the
predictions and what the you know, quote unquote experts are saying,
but I gotta imagine, you know, and you can never

(10:11):
predict injuries to quarterbacks, So that's the game changer. If
somebody gets hurt, you know, Aaron Rodgers goes down Week
three or something like that, then that changes everything. But
you look at that division and it's hard to think
the Patriots are better than the Jets or the Dolphins
or the Bills, right, I mean, they're clearly kind of
the number four.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
They are just roster wise they are, And like you said, Eddie,
but the injury bug, things can go in a lot
of different directions very fast. Look at to a tongue
of I Looa missing five games and that had a
huge impact on their season. And Josh Allen, he runs
around recklessly hit you know, once I get hit, I

(10:49):
know him in the game for real, so you know.
And Josh Allen he's been one of those guys where
he's been durable. But I mean, it's just gonna take
one of those hits where each tries the leapfrog middle
linebacker and gets taken down by a safety or something
crazy like that, where the injury bug can affect things.
But I think, Eddie, just best case scenario, we're talking

(11:11):
the Stars and Planets, a line and all that, it'd
be the Patriots in second place. I just don't see
how they could end up being better than the Bills,
Jets and Dolphins. I just don't see that at all
with the roster they have.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
No I totally agree, And so it's gonna be another
season of spoiled Patriots fans being upset. And look, they
should be spoiled. I mean, they've they've had an unbelievable run,
but I you know, the talk is still going to
be there, and it's good sports talk to try and
you know, see if the if Aye legendary coach is
truly on the hot seat. So I think that there's

(11:45):
not gonna be a lot this season that's gonna happen
with the Patriots to quiet down that talk. I think
it's gonna continue, probably for a few more seasons. But again,
I just don't see a scenario where Bill Belichick gets fired.
So he's not He's not on the hot seat. Despite
all the rhetoric and all all the talk, Bill Belichick
is not on the hot seat.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
And think about that too, Eddie. A lot of things
a lot of times with fuels, the hot seed or firings,
it's high expectations that aren't met. That's part of it.
It's not the only thing. But we just talked about
how probably best case scenario is Patriots finished second in
their division. It's loaded, that conference is loaded. So if

(12:23):
they have a mediocre season, we can't act like it
wasn't expected either, you know what I mean, We're not
expecting thirteen and four and We're like, whoa eight and nine?
What's up with this? You know, we're expecting them to
be around eight and nine, so we shouldn't act like
we're expecting way better right now.

Speaker 1 (12:41):
Yeah, I think second place is really really optimistic.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
That's what I'm saying. Yeah, that's like pie in the
sky the ceiling.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
Matt Jones finally turns into a not just a serviceable quarterback,
but somebody that's can really make plays, not just be
the old cliche game manager.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
And think how are behind he is to the other
three guys now. Josh Allen is fantastic. Aaron Rodgers is
still like two of the last three years he's been
the MVP of the league, you know, and then Tua
Tua was a legitimate MVP candidate before all the injury issues.
He still led the league in passer rating last year.

(13:20):
That's what mac Jones is dealing with. He's nowhere close
to those guys right now.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
He's Brian No, I'm Eddie Garcia. We have more fun
and sports talk coming your way. In for Ben Maller,
a controversial figure in sports, not because he's controversially, but
he's in a controversial situation apparently he's making his return

We'll talk about next. Talk about that next here on

Speaker 1 (14:35):
Thank you, Montia. Welcome back to the Fox Sports Radio
tirerac dot Com studios, and we're gonna I'm gonna read
a couple of tweets here in a second, I am
happy to see that it looks like we're getting some
pretty decent submissions for ask Ben coming up next hour,
so that should be fun and Brian, I do need

The tire the way tire buying should be. So gorbl
tweets to mention I did see that Ozzie Waz checked
in and said Eddie didn't Jerry Jones fire Tom Landry.

(15:41):
That is correct. That is probably the most high profile
firing that I can think of of a legendary NFL
head coach that was absolutely out and out fired by
the owner. So that is a good catch there by
Ozzie Waz And I did get this from Raider Freak.
He says, tell everyone to try the puffed chie They're
like puffed Cheetos, only better.

Speaker 4 (16:03):
Oh yeah, those are good.

Speaker 2 (16:05):
I haven't tried those.

Speaker 1 (16:06):
Yeah, I'd be willing to die that. There are way
more selections of cheese at flavors than I could ever imagine.

Speaker 2 (16:13):
You know, I had a flashback to the movie Rounders.
Have you seen that card playing movie?

Speaker 8 (16:17):
Of course?

Speaker 2 (16:18):
Yeah, okay, some people haven't money. Yeah, but there's a
line that just made me think of Moncey. So Matt Damon,
he doesn't play cards anymore. Right, His girlfriend found him gambling.
She freaked out. He's not gambling anymore. And then a
girl in the movie when he's in a card room,
she's like, for a guy who doesn't gamble anymore, you

(16:40):
spend a lot of time in card rooms. Something to
that effect. And that's why I thought with Mancy, for
someone who supposedly hates cheese it. I take a lot
of time eating cheese it. It's because I don't like them.

Speaker 4 (16:50):
So people do want me to try different flavors.

Speaker 3 (16:53):
It happens, so I'm like, no, try this one.

Speaker 4 (16:55):
I'm like, okay, yeah, that's good, but it's still not
what I'm gonna go pick out of a Bendi machine,
you know what I mean? Fair enough, Hey, but people
want to You're not the only one that wants to
convince me cheese its are good.

Speaker 3 (17:08):
So always get thrown different flavors.

Speaker 1 (17:10):
I'm just like, yeah, but do we have that option
in the vending machine?

Speaker 4 (17:13):
Do they have cheese it's I think at one point
we had regular, just the regular one.

Speaker 1 (17:17):
Yeah, nothing, although they did have like blueberry kit Cats
one time. Yes, if I tried that, and I was.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
Like, why would you try that?

Speaker 1 (17:25):
I like Kitkats with blueberry.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
Well, I wanted to try blueberry crunch.

Speaker 1 (17:31):
I thought it was okay, it was okay. You liked
it too, I thought it was okay.

Speaker 3 (17:35):
Yeah, I thought it was fine. I mean regular kit Cats.

Speaker 4 (17:38):
Go peebe and jelly with a crunch.

Speaker 3 (17:39):
No, it's like a wafer kind of a blueberry, like
white chocolate.

Speaker 1 (17:43):
Kind of flavors, just a hint of blueber hint.

Speaker 6 (17:46):
Okay, so quick story, quick story here about cheese It's
and FSR. David Gascon used to be an update anchor
here and he's now off doing other sports things on
the East Coast. He would notoriously loved those cheese it's,
and I believe one day he said he spent like
five dollars on individual bags of cheese it's, and he
could have just bought like a Costco size box, like

(18:08):
a much better.

Speaker 1 (18:09):
And that's what the vending machine's all about. Sam.

Speaker 3 (18:11):
He just kept coming in with these little bags of cheese.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
I can't leave and get snacks. That's why we got
to pay that exorbitant amount for this time.

Speaker 3 (18:18):
The inflation raised our prices over there.

Speaker 4 (18:21):
I was mad at that guy for a long Yeah,
I know, Sam was mad at the guy doing his job, Philly.

Speaker 1 (18:26):
Doing his job.

Speaker 3 (18:26):
He's a warlord, snack warlord.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
By the way, Eddie, I use this David Gascon drop
all the time. This is from him doing his college
basketball stuff on FS one. Now this is the longer
one and I whittled it down, but check this out.
Here's our guy Gascon. Oh here, let me let me
give him some volume there I.

Speaker 1 (18:48):
Can run and goes to you and l V four
on two four on three, Nuga corner three on the
way book it.

Speaker 2 (18:55):
I played that all the time, just the boocket book it.
I love that from Gas.

Speaker 1 (19:00):
Yeah, yeah, that's not even close to being the best gag.

Speaker 2 (19:04):
No, definitely not, but I love it from the basketball.

Speaker 1 (19:08):
With the gag on is the one of the all
times David, one of the time best drops in the
history of David. So good. H it's so good. Uh.
So we are going to have the return apparently coming
up later on tonight of Orioles broadcaster Kevin Brown. He
is he's scheduled to return to the booth tonight after

(19:30):
that finally absurd suspension for doing his job. The Orioles
are in Seattle to start a big series against the Mariners,
and I asked this question, and anybody on the crew
feel free to chime in if they're if they have
an opinion on this. Will he say anything at all,
even the slightest good to be back or thanks for

(19:52):
all the support? Will he say anything at all acknowledging
what has transpired. I'm saying no, you're saying no.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
No, I think no. Also, like if he says, hey,
good to be back, or something something just small of
like hey, it's good to be here or something like,
I could see him saying that.

Speaker 4 (20:12):
That's what I'm thinking, he's going to subtly acknowledge the
support he just got because it was massive.

Speaker 2 (20:20):
No, I don't think so, because that would be going
against Yeah, whatever, you.

Speaker 3 (20:26):
Can get another job anywhere you want.

Speaker 1 (20:28):
Now, Well, it's easy for us to say job so.

Speaker 4 (20:32):
Loved after that incident, you know what I mean, Like
he he can find another job.

Speaker 1 (20:37):
I think he can. But it's like I said, it's
easy for us to say when it's not our our paycheck.

Speaker 4 (20:41):
I just think the ball is in his court.

Speaker 1 (20:43):
So I don't think he's gonna say anything. I think
he's just gonna play it straight. But I think the
bigger question is will he change his broadcast style in
any way to try and avoid saying anything even remotely
negative about any Orioles players.

Speaker 2 (20:59):
So you can't say it would be hilarious. Yeah, you know,
I don't think you will.

Speaker 1 (21:03):
I think one of the reasons why everybody is so
on his side is that he was a pro. He
did his job, he read the stats what they were,
and I think he'll continue to do that. I think
he will not change his broadcast style.

Speaker 2 (21:16):
I just think it's funny thinking of the graphics team
putting something together on the screen and it says, Hey,
the Orioles have lost whatever for their last five series
against this squad, and he's supposed to be talking over
that as the graphic is up there. I think it'd
be hilarious if he just like, and there's a graphic
for you to look at, and doesn't say anything. Yeah,

(21:40):
I think that would be go ahead and read it. Yeah,
go ahead read it, because I'm not going to right now.
That would be funny.

Speaker 5 (21:47):
It seemed like a fake story to me, almost, like
I can't even believe that we're talking about. Like it
seemed like one of those things where there's something else
going on and this is the story that we're being
fed because it doesn't seem real. I mean, I know
that there's been you know, like we mentioned on the

(22:08):
show about Artie Marino, uh, you know, being moving the
press box because you know he doesn't like that, and
then having you know, the the k la A right
there in the in the stadium, But I don't know
it just it was.

Speaker 3 (22:21):
It was weird. It wasn't even negative. Really, it wasn't
at all.

Speaker 1 (22:24):
I totally hear what you're saying, Kup. But I think
if that was the case, if there was something salacious
or more to it, I think the Oriole management would
have leaked it out so that they wouldn't be getting
crushed the way they are. And they haven't done that,
so they wouldn't bring.

Speaker 2 (22:39):
Him back, you know, if it was truly sillacious.

Speaker 1 (22:42):
I think I wonder he is on Twitter and I
checked and he has not tweeted in a while, so
he's gone silent in every way.

Speaker 2 (22:49):
And that's why that's why he's not gonna say anything
in his first broadcast back right.

Speaker 1 (22:52):
I'm wondering if maybe he'll slip in a hey thanks
for the support on Twitter. Maybe he'll do it that way.

Speaker 5 (22:59):
So no, but what if it was something salacious that
looks bad on Oils management too? Yeah, like something personal
that went on behind the scenes. I'm saying that would
make more sense to me. So like, what though, Coop,
what could it be? Just as an example, I don't know,

(23:21):
Uh got in an argument with you know, a superior
and it's made some personal jab that the guy got
all but hurt about and then they suspended him. And
then that's what everybody pointed to because that's the only
thing they could find. I don't know, I'm just I'm
spitballing here, but it just it didn't make sense to

(23:45):
me this entire time.

Speaker 1 (23:47):
It doesn't make any sense, But I I don't I
don't think there's anything behind the scenes here that was
not on the surface. I just think it's an owner
being a jackass.

Speaker 2 (23:55):
Yeah, that's what I think it is too.

Speaker 6 (23:57):
Just like, uh, working in Rock, North Korea and you're
a broadcaster and you're just supposed to read the script
and if you say anything that's even slightly a critical
of you know, the state, the state sponsored media will
like send you off to the.

Speaker 2 (24:11):
Gulag that he technically was reading the script.

Speaker 3 (24:14):
No I know, but like it's foolish.

Speaker 6 (24:16):
It's ridiculous that you gotta let your your broadcast team
cover the goods of bad and the ugly, like they
don't need to pile on. But for them to just
sugar coat everything is is pathetic. Like when people don't
want to listen to that they want to hear at
least if you're it's baseball. It's a long season. Teams
go through losing slumps like big whoop. The ools are
good that like they'll be fine, Like he was just

(24:37):
doing his job.

Speaker 2 (24:38):
Yeah, I just think the Orioles are dumb. I think
that's the bottom line. What it is?

Speaker 1 (24:43):
What is it? Sometimes the easiest explanation is the explanation.

Speaker 2 (24:46):
Yeah, Yeah, I think they just got upset. They want
the broadcasters to be oozing with positivity, and they their
statement to awful announcing. They said he hasn't even been suspended.
They denied that he was suspended. So it's like, well, then,
where the hell's he been? Did you just take a
three week vacation involuntary leave of absence? It doesn't even

(25:07):
add up.

Speaker 1 (25:08):
Well, Oriols Mariners is gonna be a good series, But
I think a lot of people will be tuning in
to see how the pregame show goes, and and and whatnot,
a little bit more attention there to the broadcast crew
than than you might otherwise see. But good luck to
Kevin Brown. He certainly is coming out I think on
the on the good end of this whole.

Speaker 2 (25:26):
I think so too. I think he's winning huge on
this whole thing. There are a lot of people that
didn't know his name.

Speaker 1 (25:31):
Before my hands in the air, ye and it's like.

Speaker 2 (25:35):
Oh, you're the guy that do anything wrong. And I
hear people say, oh, he's a tremendous broadcaster. It's like, dude,
you've never heard of the guy until now and they're
saying that, you know.

Speaker 1 (25:45):
Well, speaking of Major League Baseball, we had another busy
night around the diamond to get updated on all that. Uh,
we go to the Queen of Fox Sports right by
the way, Monteal Quick. Yeah, you've filled in for me before.
You've worked with Ben before?

Speaker 4 (25:58):
Do you?

Speaker 1 (25:58):
Are you aware of all of his absurd nicknames?

Speaker 4 (26:01):
Not all of them?

Speaker 1 (26:02):
I'm sure it's only been you are aware he has
them right, Yes, so he likes to give them out
from time to time. He's given me, I don't know,
like twenty I'm sure has he given you a nicknamer?

Speaker 4 (26:12):
I don't think I've gotten a nickname?

Speaker 1 (26:14):
I win. I gave Monci her first nickname, Moncey.

Speaker 4 (26:19):
Yes, I don't think he's given me a nickname now
that I remember, so, I'm jealous and also honored that
I got it from Eddie Garcia. Tonight thank you.

Speaker 7 (26:27):

Speaker 4 (27:33):
We have a golf going on at the FedEx Saint
Jude Championship. Jordan Speed is in the lead after day
one seven under part overall. Tom Kim is one stroke
back They're all set to tee off around twelve pm
Eastern time for Day two. Colin Morikawa is tied for
third place. He has pledged one thousand dollars for every
birdy that he makes to Maui Recovery, as we know

(27:54):
a lot of terrible things happening right now in Mali
with those fires, so he had six birdies in the
opening round. Also, TMZ has a story that Floyd Mayweather
has put sixty eight families in hotels, giving them food,
giving them clothes, giving them flights, everything they need, sixty
eight families. Apparently, TMZ asked for a comment and Mayweather said,

(28:15):
I am doing that, but I don't need any more
publicity from it, So good for him.

Speaker 3 (28:19):
Back to you, guys, I'm.

Speaker 1 (28:21):
Glad you brought that up, Manzi. Those images you've seen
it on social media of what's happened there in Hawaii
and Mali are just terrifying. And that is just so awful.

Speaker 4 (28:33):
In the blink of an eye, looks like a.

Speaker 1 (28:34):
Nuclear bomb went off, as I saw that before and
after of like the coast there, and it's just it,
it's crazy. That's so awful. So thoughts and prayers to
all of our friends out there in the Olohak, the
state of my birth. I was born in Honolulus. That's
I guess something that Moncey learned of. No, yeah, we've
got ass Pen coming up later on. Maybe we'll learn

(28:55):
some more about each other as well. But so we've
had a couple of call so far, and I do
see that, uh, he just dropped it.

Speaker 2 (29:04):
Just never fails, man, never.

Speaker 1 (29:07):
All right, So we were gonna go to uh to
Red Breast Paul, but apparently maybe he dozed off or
fell asleep. We do, though, have another Mallard militia legend
on the line. So let's let's call an audible here
and let's check in with Jed, who fled? What's up? Jed? Hi? Jed?

Speaker 9 (29:28):
I got it?

Speaker 1 (29:28):
How are you?

Speaker 9 (29:29):
I'm I heard the sound, but I don't know. I
was like, don't aren't you glad? Don't you want? Jo
has talked overnight. I'd rather no, No, I'm so glad
as you. I'm so glad you. And what happened to
h where's the gremlins?

Speaker 2 (29:41):
Day?

Speaker 9 (29:41):
That was that the reason has been scheduled off?

Speaker 1 (29:43):
Ben is he's know what he's doing? Then, No Gremlins,
not yet go ahead, Jed.

Speaker 9 (29:52):
Oh, okay, okay, we're gonna give Jid free time and
like he's ready already. I did some play about play
commentary a few years and I did simultaneous announcement, which
is not the easiest thing. But then my coaches and
he said to the beginning to see to hear your
he said, don't say anything, Rachel, and don't bang any
of our players. I'm like, you could pick one, you

(30:12):
could pick one of those. I'm not sure I can
do both. Aha, I'm not sure to do both of this,
so each other.

Speaker 1 (30:18):
Uh. That's that's pretty impressive, Jed. I I've done some
public address announcing back in my college days, and I
definitely did some play by play. I never did both
at the same time, though. That is impressive.

Speaker 9 (30:28):
Hey, it's time. I'm gonna any Darcy coming out to
play here. If you don't buy home, just look like
it and see if we're doing. If we're too broke
to have a separate beef announcements and play by play comic,
You're correct, I'm not get paid for and so that's good, Suf.

Speaker 1 (30:44):
I'm impressed. That was awesome, Jed. That was fantastic. Looks
in here like that's not me.

Speaker 9 (30:50):
That's the there's like he's good people, but that means it.
I got several people inside my head and I'm I'm
not a good person, but I'm good people.

Speaker 3 (30:56):
You know I'm saying that's what makes sense.

Speaker 9 (30:57):
You're definitely say something. Thank you, Eddie, You're definitely.

Speaker 1 (31:01):
You're definitely a legend on the on the bet meutare.
Let me ask jen, Let me ask you a serious
sports question. Is Florida State? Is Florida State gonna leave
the ACC or your seminole is going to leave the
a SEC. Yeah, they want they said they want to
somewhere else.

Speaker 9 (31:16):
Like, don't figure like that black guy left, you know,
the black woman for the white woman dogs. Yeah, immediately
Florida State a white girl.

Speaker 7 (31:24):
All right.

Speaker 9 (31:25):
Just so I don't know, I feel I should get
myself out there. I'm talking about that face, all right.

Speaker 1 (31:28):
Thank you, Thank you, Jed.

Speaker 2 (31:33):
Say nothing racial and don't bang the players.

Speaker 1 (31:36):
Those are words to live by.

Speaker 2 (31:37):
I think you did some BA announcing, Eddie.

Speaker 1 (31:40):
I did for Fresio State football and baseball. I did
not do basketball, but I did football and baseball.

Speaker 2 (31:45):
Like what like in the stadium and you're doing the
what like the third down thunder? Did you do that?
Did they do that when you were there?

Speaker 1 (31:54):
I think it was a recording that they played when
they when they did that, But I, okay, I did
the Yeah, I did like the and stuff like that.

Speaker 2 (32:01):
And that's cool. Yeah, what about the play by play stuff?
Where'd you do that at?

Speaker 1 (32:06):
You know, like we did all the women's sports at
Freslo State because the student radio station wasn't allowed to
do any of the actual you know, big time. But
we couldn't do football, we couldn't do baseball. We could
do baseball, though, I think I said baseball. We didn't
do football or basketball, but we did baseball, which was
pretty cool because they had a decent baseball program. They
won a national title which was great for you know,

(32:27):
one season. So yeah, it's fun. I love doing play
by play. I had a dream of doing that, and
then I found out that most of these people never
leave these jobs, like they just hold on them forever
and ever and ever, and so it's just there's just
no jobs available. So I got into this. I think
it's worked out though.

Speaker 2 (32:43):
Okay, now it's worked out, well, you do. I'd never
really thought about that, but you do have a good
play by play voice, no thing, and if people ever
did give up their jobs, you know that might have
worked out one day.

Speaker 1 (32:54):
Yeah, my buddy did single a ball in Burlington, Iowa,
Sam Burlington, the Burlington be Yea, and he was a
year ahead of me, and so he gave me kind
of the scouting report and he was like, yeah, it's
you know, I do the games on the radio, but
I also have to sell all the ads. I have
to like sell tickets, and then if there's a rain delay,

(33:16):
I have to run down and cover the field. I'm
not kidding. It was like it was so bare bones.
So and I was like, yeah, maybe I'm not going
to try and get into that.

Speaker 2 (33:26):
I love the How does that sound on the air
like there's currently a rain delay? I'll be right.

Speaker 1 (33:32):
Back, That's exactly what it sounds like.

Speaker 2 (33:36):
Wow. Yeah, man, humble beginnings. Love that. That's great.

Speaker 1 (33:40):
So Moncey teased this, and uh, I did want to
ask the crew, well, you know what, I think we'll
do this after break. Let me tease it. Then, all right,
I've got some praise for one of the more controversial
fan bases in sports, and we'll see what you guys think.
About this. We'll do it next coming up here on
the Ben Mallor Show. Eddie Garcia, Brian no infant Ben

Speaker 1 (34:43):
Thank you, Monci, and welcome back to the Fox Sports
Radio tirerac dot Com studios. I am Eddie Garcia along
with Brian. No question for you, Brian.

Speaker 2 (34:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (34:52):
Have you ever been to Philadelphia? And have you ever
seen a sporting event in Philadelphia?

Speaker 5 (34:59):
I have.

Speaker 2 (35:00):
I saw the Tom Brady led Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat
the Eagles twenty eight to twenty two. I remember that
because I laid the six and a half with Tampa
and that jerk Nick Sirianni went for two to lose
by six, and so Tampa didn't cover the spread. I
remember that very well.

Speaker 1 (35:21):
This is why I don't gamble. It ruined sports. Just
appreciate the game for what it is.

Speaker 2 (35:27):
Jane stories to tell you know, I had a couple
of Philly fans. They were right next to me. I
was checking Coop and I are in the same confidence
pool and I was checking it right before the game,
and these Philly fans are right next to me, and
they're like, you got sixteen confidence points on Tampa and
I'm like, yeah, yeah, I think they're gonna cover. They

(35:48):
didn't cover.

Speaker 1 (35:49):
Anybody else on the crew. Ever been to Philadelphia? Ever
watched a sporting event in Philadelphia.

Speaker 5 (35:53):
I've been to Philadelphia, but I have not watched the
sporting event there.

Speaker 6 (35:56):
I have been to several games at Citizens Bank Park,
see the Philly and I've been to a seventy six
Ers game.

Speaker 3 (36:02):
Never been to Philadelphia, Okay, I went in twenty fourteen.

Speaker 1 (36:06):
I went for the NHL Draft and while I was
there the World Cup was going on, and if you've
ever been to that sports complex, and Sam knows this,
They've got Citizen Bank Citizen Bank Park where the Phillies play,
They've got Lincoln Financial Field with the Eagles play, and
they've got I don't know, it's still well far west. Still,
they're all right there together. They share a massive parking lot.
They've got these awesome sports bars kind of in the

(36:28):
middle there. It's a really cool little area. And I
went and saw Phillies Braves game while we were there,
so it was fun. I had a good time in Philadelphia.
As human as hell, but I had a good time. Now,
we all know the reputation of Philadelphia fans, right, I
didn't experience that. Now, I wasn't an opposing fan. And Briy,

(36:48):
you know, my wife is a huge Chargers fan. We
go on the road pretty much every year and Philadelphia
is on the no fly list. But I wonder I've
heard stories both positive and negative. I've heard some pretty
bad stories and I've heard some pretty good stories. And
I think it's probably maybe it's an extreme, like the
bad Philly Philadelphia fans are really bad, and the good

(37:11):
Philadelphia fans are really good, and then the most of
them were just fans like anyplace else. But we did
have that story. Montsi briefly touched on it. The Phillies
are having a good season, right. They're gonna be a
playoff team, it looks like. And they signed Trey Turner
to this huge eleven year, three hundred million dollar contract
in the off season, the shortstop. He's had success with
the Nats, he's had some success with the Dodgers, right,

(37:32):
and it hasn't worked out. He's been awful. He's not
hitting well, he's made errors in the field, and understandable,
he's being booed, and any fan base would do that.
But the Phillies decided to do this online movement to
try and flip the script on him, and they started
cheering him, and they started giving him standing ovations when
he came to the plate, and it seems like it

(37:54):
might actually be working. I know, he hit a two
run homer last night. He's hitting like three point eighties
since they started this got eight game hitting streak. Not
only is this insane that it's happening in Philadelphia, yeah,
but just in sports in general, I actually think this
is awesome.

Speaker 2 (38:09):
It is cool, right, And it does make you wonder
if fan bases did flip the script instead of just
bo you suck? What are you doing? And sometimes players
get in their own head, if they did just you know,
cheer a little bit more. I know it's gonna sound
like such a touchy feely take, but it's true. These
guys are human beings, you know. And to applaud Trey Turner,

(38:31):
I think it has had some impact, not total impact,
but some impact on him feeling the love. He even
talked about it at ADYE the other day. He talked
about his mom seeing the standing ovation and she loved it.
You know what I mean. They're not robots out there.
They can feel the love sometimes.

Speaker 1 (38:48):
I don't know how you can't. When you get in
a standing ovation and you're struggling, I don't know how
that doesn't hit you. And his teammates are all standing
up in a plot as it's cool. It's great to see,
and it's great see in Philadelphia. It's not gonna work
in every situation. I just thought that was really cool
to see.

Speaker 2 (39:01):
No, it is cool, man, so we saw go ahead, Brian.
I was just gonna say, true passion over there. Sometimes
crazy but true passion.

Speaker 1 (39:08):
So we saw one rookie quarterback last night. We'll talk
about some more rookie quarterbacks in the NFL next on
