football last night on Thursday doubleheader. He had the Texans
beating the Patriots twenty to nineteen, the Seahawks down the
(00:41):
Vikings twenty four to thirteen. The most noteworthy thing, though,
was the debut of the number two overall pick in
the NFL draft, CJ. Stroud out of Ohio State. Did
not go well for him. Only two series did not
get an offensive first down two or four passing thirteen yards,
He got sacked for a fifteen yard loss in the
right afterwards through a very ugly interception. One of three
(01:02):
top four picks in this year's NFL draft. We're gonna
see the other two guys coming up this weekend. Bryce Young,
the number one overall pick for Carolina they're gonna be
taking on the Jets on Saturday, and then Anthony Richardson
of the Colts, the fourth overall pick. Colts will be
taking on the Bills on Saturday as well. Talked about
a little bit Brian. It is an interesting rookie crop,
and obviously when you're a top four pick, there are
(01:24):
high expectations. But you've got three talented guys. I don't
know that anyone looks at them as sure fire stars.
Maybe they can develop into that, but they're obviously being
high picks. They're going to difficult situations. They're joining bad teams.
I know our own Brady Quinn was talking yesterday. He's
very high on Bryce Young, thinks he's gonna be the
NFL rookie of the year. But I'm not sure this
(01:47):
season if any of these guys are going to really
stand out and turn into immediately the quarterback that these
teams hope that they can turn into.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Yeah, I think that I think Bryce Young has a
lot of talent. I'm just worried about the durability stuff.
You know, he's just a smaller dude, small frame. I'm
not saying he's weak. I'm just saying this is the
NFL man like he's gonna take some huge hits. And
I'm not sure if he's gonna be what I call
a seventeen guy, you know where he just plays every
(02:17):
game every season where you can look at his year
by year and it's just seventeen seventeen seventeen.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
I don't know that he's gonna be that guy. But CJ.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
Stroud, it's funny when he struggled on Thursday Night, Eddie.
You hear this a lot heading into the draft of well,
he's the most pro ready. They'll say that about Bryce
Young sometimes CJ.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
Stroud.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
I look at Stroud in particular, and it's like, it's
not just what you bring to the table, it's what
the team brings to the table also, And if you
look at Stroud, he was surrounded by a who's who
supporting cast at Ohio State. That's not what the Texans have.
So being pro ready, he's not used to like Will
(02:59):
Levis at Kentucky and not having great talent around him
in terms of supporting cast. Just from that standpoint, CJ.
Stroud is not pro ready when it comes to that,
your supporting cast matters a lot. And you got a
little little taste of that on Thursday Night where uh man,
I just think that's gonna be culture shocked for a
(03:20):
little while for CJ. Stroud until they upgrade the talent
around him, and that could take a number of years
to do.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
And when you think about it, if you're gonna go
with Anthony Richardson in Indianapolis, doesn't it make it a
little bit more curious that you don't have a Jonathan
Taylor for him to hand the ball off to. I mean,
if you're isn't that I mean that's the traditional, you know,
support blanket of a young quarterback is to be able
to hand it off to a reliable running back, and
you're if he's really gonna be the guy this year.
(03:46):
I know they've got Gardner Minshew there, who you know,
could be capable of filling in if necessary for a
little while. But if you're gonna have a young guy
like that who's very raw and probably is gonna need
a decent supporting cast. A little interesting that they're not
making Jonathan Taylor little bit more of a priority with
all that running back situation's going on.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
Yeah, I totally hear you on that. It's just been
such a weird scenario. It's been a fiasco with if
you're not going to break him off with a new contract,
give him a contract extension, you're not gonna show the
love through actions. You got to do it through words
at the very least, and they've done the opposite of that.
(04:23):
Jim Mersey basically went on Twitter and said, hey, we
got a CBA, we're not giving running backs more money
quick crying about it.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
It's like that doesn't help.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
And then he's like, you know, if I die and
Jonathan Taylor's out of the league, no one's gonna miss us.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
That doesn't help.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
And then the head coach was asked if Jonathan Taylor,
who's asked for a trade, if his ankle heels and
he's cleared, do you expect him at practice? And Shane
Steichen's like, yeah, as if he's never made a trade request.
So the way the Colts have mishandled that they've made
an awkward situation way worse, And yeah, who pays the
(04:57):
price is what you're saying, Eddie, it's Anthony Richardson, your
young quarterback who you would like to surround him again
with as much talent as possible. And Jonathan Taylor went
healthy is definitely one of those guys.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
You talk about the supporting cast, and like I said,
they're obviously all going to teams that aren't great because
that's where they were able to be selected so high.
I think Frank Reich has his detractors, but I mean
he's a former NFL quarterback, played for a number of years.
He's been in OC around the league as well. I
think that's a pretty good guy to learn from for
Bryce young Shane Steiken in Indy, I mean, it's a
(05:30):
first year head coach. You know, I don't know how
much of the he's mean, he was the OC in Philly,
but I don't know how much he's going to delegate.
As far as teaching a young quarterback. You're thinking pretty
pretty hands on with that. So that's gonna be a
tough situation. You know, you got a rookie head coach
and a rookie quarterback going together. That's that's pretty tough.
Speaker 4 (05:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
And that's the thing with stike In is he's overseen
a couple of quarterbacks that have much different styles where
it's what Jalen Hurts, Philip Rivers justin Herbert like just stylistically,
you can't get much different between Rivers and Jalen Hurts
just their styles. Like you know, Philip Rivers is the
(06:10):
iron deer back. There no mobility. Jalen Hurts can move
around a ton. So the hope is that he can
get the best out of Anthony Richardson. But there was
a great stat where Anthony Richardson, they showed it tonight
where he had thirteen starts in college. That's tied for
the fewest since two thousand and two with Mitch Trubisky.
(06:32):
That's not great, Eddie. I mean, you don't want to
be when you have the lack of experience. That's where
it's hard to play ketchup at the NFL level. Man,
It's going to take a little while for it to click.
I feel like, So.
Speaker 1 (06:45):
You mentioned Philip Rivers and his names, Yeah, unexpectedly came
up in the news today, and I know I sent
you a story and you sent me a story that
I think are related. So we'll kind of intertwine our
two stories and see if we've got the facts right.
So obviously, last year the San Francisco for Niners had
a very good team, but then Jimmy Garoppolo goes down,
then Trey Lance goes down, and then we get the amazing,
(07:07):
you know, brock Purty story coming in and having that
amazing season. But apparently the forty nine Ers, as you
would expect, had some contingencies in case something happened to
brock Purty, and apparently it was reaching out to Philip Rivers,
who was coaching high school football in Alabama, and apparently
Philip Rivers was on board with this.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
Now Jimmy Garoppolo had a different version of this. He
claims had the forty nine Ers somehow miraculously beaten the
Eagles in the NFC Title Game, that he would have
come back for the Super Bowl. But we had the
head coach of the forty nine Ers, Kyle Shanahan, was saying, no,
actually we were going to go with Philip Rivers. Can
(07:50):
you imagine in the Super Bowl if they brought literally
I mean, I know, he's probably a Hall of Famed quarterback,
but a guy who's been coaching high school football off
the street to start in the Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Oh, that's the type of stuff that you would walk
out of a movie theater shaking your head like this
was just the stupidest script ever, you know. And we
were like, not that far away from maybe it happening.
They're in the NFC title game, Brockberdy, Let's say Brockberdy
gets hurt in the fourth quarter when the Niners are
(08:22):
leading and they're able to hold on, you know what
I mean, Like we were in the ballpark of maybe
them reaching out to Philip Rivers coaching high school football
to go head to head with Mahomes in the Super Bowl.
Like imagine as if Rivers won that game with the Eagles.
That is amazing right there. But I just love that
(08:43):
they had a contingency plan. It must have just been
because of all the quarterback injuries where Jimmy got hurt,
Trey Lance gets hurt. They're like, maybe Brock goes down.
We got to have somebody else ready to go, And
it was Philip Rivers. That is that's wild right there.
Speaker 5 (08:59):
Man.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
You know, we talked about I think it was yesterday's
show about cheering for other players that have left your team. Yeah,
I know that. I know one Charger fan who I
live with who would have been cheering her behind off
for Philip Rivers in the super Bowl even though he's
playing for the fort Nighters. My wife, of course, I'm
talking about a big Monterear Charger fan. You've been cheering
(09:19):
for Philip Rivers in the super Bowl the forty nine.
Speaker 6 (09:23):
I would have been just so happy for him to
play in a super Bowl, you know what I mean, Like,
that's what would have been cool about it.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
That's what's crazy is he's in San Diego, but you
know for so long, and then you could just take
the speed pass like you're at the amusement park to
the super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
That would have been insane.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
But think if it would have worked out and he
won that game, Leg would have been a hero mega hero?
Speaker 1 (09:51):
Has there ever been? Obviously it didn't happen, So it's
just a fun fun thing to fantasize bot has there
ever been? And I know it's interesting. Brady Quinn, LeVar,
Aeringts and I talk about the Two Pros and a
Cup of Joe show coming on after us. They talk
about how it's very rare that NFL players actually file
their retirement papers. They usually just don't do it, so
(10:13):
I don't know. I assume maybe Philip Rivers didn't do that.
I don't know what the process would have been for
a player to maybe not file the paperwork but has
basically stepped away from the game and then come back
to play in a significant game. I can't think of
anything in any other sport where that might have happened.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
Wouldn't that be crazy if there was some weird hiccup
that prevented it from happening where they wanted to reach
out to Phil? But I don't know how any of
that works with the reinstatement process. But it's a weird deal,
isn't it Where you just don't file it and you
sort of just go away. It's just weird, right, Like
(10:52):
you would think it'd be a little more formal than that,
but it's not. There are a lot of guys that
don't file their papers and it's okay.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
I don't know how that works either as far as
like when when you get started in like the pension
plan and all that kind of stuff. So yeah, but
not as surprised. That's that's a thing using things that
you learned sometimes when you're doing your part of shows
with for professional athletes, they give you some insight into
weird things like that. I would never even consider like
asking that question or wanting to know about that, But yeah,
they said it's very rare for that to happen.
Speaker 2 (11:21):
Apparently, I'd like to know what those documents look like,
you know. And also, yeah, the one day contract that
a lot of guys sign right before they retire. I
want to if they sign the one day contract and
then don't sign the retirement papers right after that.
Speaker 1 (11:36):
So, with this story in mind, and I know it
probably would have happened anyway, but if something drastic happens,
we talked about injuries and now they're the great equalizer,
and we look at these predictions for the preseason. If
a quarterback goes down early, how we're gonna hear Tom Brady? Right,
We've got to hear Tom Brady. Yeah, with this in mind,
maybe it's not as crazy of an idea as we
might think.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
Yeah, yeah, you're right, Philip Versus on speed dial. You know,
the goat is right. We wondered there was just a
bromo with Big Ben talking about Matt Ryan, who's leaving
the door open.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
Should anybody call right if you've.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
Got an if you've got a choice between uh, Carson
Wentz and Matt Ryan and Tom Brady. Yeah, I mean
you're taking Tom Brady every time.
Speaker 3 (12:21):
Right, every time? For sure, like no doubt.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
He's but talking about like contracts and and things like that.
So is he, in fact right part owner of the Raiders?
So would he have to share sell his share to
be able to come back and play or.
Speaker 7 (12:37):
He have to be approved?
Speaker 2 (12:38):
Yeah, he has to be approved by ownership around the league,
which could be done, but yeah, that's a wild I
just picture boor Carson Wentz checking his phone like it
does this work?
Speaker 3 (12:50):
Can you just call me and make sure?
Speaker 4 (12:52):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (12:53):
It works?
Speaker 2 (12:53):
Man, it's still not ringing. I don't know what's going
on here. He's so much younger Carson Wentz. There are
some situations the Packers. They have Jordan Love and they
have no backup of note at all. If some guy
that played in the XFL or something like that and
Carson Wentz is just sitting there. I'm not telling you
walks on quarterback water, but as a backup, as a
(13:14):
safety plan, it's.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
Better than what they have. Yet. Teams are like nah,
we just we don't want to resort to that just yet.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
Did you see that picture that was going around the
internet of Carson Wentz with like all the different practice geers.
Speaker 3 (13:25):
Did he put that out there?
Speaker 1 (13:27):
I don't know. He had like an Eagles helmet or yeah,
commander's jersey. Yeah, was it Colts? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (13:34):
Short, Yeah, he had some shorts on.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
It's like, okay, like he had to do that on purpose, right,
I mean that just seemed kind of random that he
had a different team like on every piece of equipment
that he had.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
I don't yeah, I don't know that it boosts your stock.
You know, I'm officially a journeyman. It's okay, cool.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
Other teams are like, we need to get this guy,
all right, Brian.
Speaker 1 (13:58):
So we're gonna have some fun this hour. This is
the fun hour of the Ben Malor Show. We've got

time for that. As well. Nice and coming up next
(14:20):
a story that you sent me, Brian. That is fun.
It's not really sports related, but it is an interesting
question to ask everybody on the crew. It involves a
sandwich place. We're gonna get into that. Coming up here

(15:49):
little bit of fun with the next couple of segments.
And Brian, you sent me a story that is certainly
interesting and kind of goes along with some of the
overnight fun that we have here. So I'm gonna turn
over to you and let you introduce this story.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
Okay, Yeah, So Subway they, you know, the fast food restaurant,
They have this promotion going on. It's called Name Change Challenge.
So they're gonna select one winner later this month. So
what you have to do. You have to legally change
your first name to Subway and then you have a
(16:28):
chance to receive free sandwiches for life. They've had ten
thousand people do this already in hopes that they can
just eat Subway for free from here on out ten
thousand people, Eddie, you would be Subway Garcia. I'd be
Subway No.
Speaker 1 (16:45):
And you know that's not I don't know about Subway no.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
I doesn't.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
I would, I will have to say. And I hope
I don't get any trouble over for this. But a
a subway Belanos, it sounds like something I might want
to enjoy it. Yeah, it sounds like a delicious sandwich.
Speaker 6 (17:06):
Maybe maybe is that better than definitely subway no.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
That's for sure.
Speaker 7 (17:10):
Subway does not work.
Speaker 3 (17:12):
You're not gonna win this, Ryan.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
Yeah, probably not. I don't think they would want me
for that one. But uh yeah, a lot of people.
I love this too, Eddie, to kind of like sweeten
the deal. What they've done is not only do you
get Subway for life, but they're going to reimburse the
winner for the legal and processing costs of the name change.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
It's on the house.
Speaker 1 (17:36):
I wonder how much. I don't think that's got that's much,
I know, but I think.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
It's hilarious and we'll cover the fees the okay, cool man,
that's great. So I can change my name to subway no.
And I don't win and I'm just out.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
I like how they say for the chance to get
Subway for life. Yeah, really just the chance? What does
that mean? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (18:00):
And then last year did you see this? There was
another contest someone got a Subway series logo a foot
long tattoo in exchange for free Subway for life. So
apparently they've been doing these off the wall contests for
a few years. And you know, just like we're doing.
We're talking about it.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
For lunch, so I had for dinner. You know what,
it's it's gotten better. There was a time when it
wasn't very good. They've really improved it.
Speaker 9 (18:30):
They've kind of the menu they've sort of overhauled with
like more predesigned sandwiches where you're like, oh, that sounds
like a good combos stuff and so that. Yeah, they
call have like like the Boss or the Captain, and
like they have different names and stuff.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
The Captain I would like.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
Steph.
Speaker 9 (18:48):
They have gotten Steph Curry, anyone from Steph Curry to
like Bill Belichick to do subway commercials.
Speaker 7 (18:52):
Danger witch.
Speaker 9 (18:56):
You know that the the subway foot long is actually
not even twelve inches, It's like ten and a half inches.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
That doesn't surprise me.
Speaker 7 (19:04):
Some ways.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
It's like for me, I don't know if it was you, Coop,
but my wife didn't feel like cooking and I was
kind of prepping for the show. It's like it's two
blocks away, I'll just run grab a. It's not like
it's really if we have time to think about it
and go somewhere, we're going to pick up. But I think, Brian,
the obvious question is, let's take subway out of the equation.
If you have the chance, and I think I know
(19:26):
your your answer and Coop's answer, if you have the
chance to pick any you know known fast food establishment
to change your first name to to get food from
that place for life, what is it going to be?
We know that it would be well, no, but it
is I'm leading into asking a little bit. So we
(19:47):
know it would be Raisin Kin's mallor we know that
that would would happen. So I asked you the crew,
what what would be your go to change my name
to to get food for life from?
Speaker 7 (20:00):
This is so easy.
Speaker 3 (20:01):
It's definitely Chick fil A.
Speaker 1 (20:02):
Oh yeah, I thought I thought you were a Taco Bell.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
I enjoyed Taco Bell, but I'm hardcore Chick fil A man.
Speaker 7 (20:11):
Absolutely be Taco Bell.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
I knew mine would absolutely not be.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
Taco I didn't know Coop was that hardcore.
Speaker 1 (20:21):
Yeah, he loves for the border there.
Speaker 7 (20:23):
I also love Taco Bell.
Speaker 9 (20:26):
No, but okay, So there's actually it's not out west here,
but it's a it's a chain now it's it's kind
of regional. It's called Ponchero's Mexican Grill. It actually started
in Iowa City. The first one is there. Now it's
in like a bunch of big ten university towns. So
I would do Ponchero's Sam.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
I don't know that's a good name, but I don't
know if I could. I may have to disqualify for
that because don't know if that's well known en notough.
Speaker 9 (20:51):
Hes got like sixty locations now, I don't, okay, so
if I had to go with another one, it'd probably
be like, I don't know, Domino's.
Speaker 7 (20:57):
Well, that's just a.
Speaker 10 (20:58):
Bad choice because like, where's the closest location to you're
gonna get it free for life?
Speaker 9 (21:03):
Then he got it back to the Midwest. Yeah, uh,
I let me some punch for value. Brian's got the
right idea because Chick fil A is a little bit pricey.
It's high quality stuff. I just had the uh for
the first time ever. I was trying to be healthier.
I went and had the grilled wrap at Chick fil
A Delicious.
Speaker 7 (21:22):
It was so good. But it's like ten something.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
Yeah, Oh, what isn't these days?
Speaker 6 (21:27):
Right?
Speaker 7 (21:28):
Taco Bell, That's what's great? Taco Bell. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (21:33):
I was trying to get Taco Bell before I came
into worked it and I was telling the guys that
there was a huge line in the drive through, but
I was gonna come with some potato soft tacos for
everybody in the club.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
Wo yeah wow, I was everybody.
Speaker 7 (21:45):
I was And then there was like twenty people in line.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
Are you Taco Bell Bolognos?
Speaker 7 (21:49):
Then no, I couldn't. I'm Pizza Bologos. Just Pizza Bologos.
Speaker 1 (21:53):
You had a bigger place, all right, Maybe because it's
a chant Papa John's.
Speaker 11 (21:57):
Oh when you when you said Dominoes, I was like, really,
out of all the pizzas, Papa John's is good until
you get to the crust, and then you'll lose Wins.
Speaker 6 (22:12):
Put a little bit of parmesan cheese on the crust, Ryan,
it does.
Speaker 10 (22:15):
Extra where you gonna have parmesan cheese at home. You
gotta do when you pack the packages.
Speaker 7 (22:22):
Like you added on the crust like they put it,
like you just look the garlic butter from Dominoes.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
The garlic from John's hands down.
Speaker 7 (22:32):
To toil and greasy and slopping.
Speaker 6 (22:34):
Oh, nobody likes you.
Speaker 1 (22:37):
And then and then it wasn't fun anymore. Uh So,
I I thought way too much about this, and I'm thinking,
if I'm gonna eat one place for the rest of
my life, I've got to go someplace that has a
pretty large variety. So I think I would be Jack
in the Box and New Year because I can get burgers,
I can get chicken. I think they even have like eggs, procos,
(22:57):
I got curly fries. Good guy, Oh my god. I
think I'd be Jack in the Box.
Speaker 6 (23:03):
That's a good one.
Speaker 1 (23:04):
Or Jack of the mark KERSI I guess.
Speaker 3 (23:07):
That's not bad. That's a that's a good name too.
Speaker 1 (23:10):
I don't like that.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
Yeah, I don't think subway no sounds. Yeah, yours is
way better.
Speaker 8 (23:17):

Ask Ben coming up here in just a second. Let's
squeeze in a phone call Andy the comic book by
Guy I was going to go to you. I'm sorry,
I know you were waiting for a while. We'll see
you at the mallor meet and Green coming up here
in a little bit. But let us go to Jeff
Easton Houston. He wants to talk a little NFL. AHF,
what's going on? You're on Fox Sports.
Speaker 4 (24:41):
We Hey, how's it going guys? Listen. I know you
were talking about this earlier in the week, and I
kind of wanted to put my take on it. You
were talking about teams that made the playoffs last year
that probably wouldn't make the playoffs this year, and a
team that didn't make the playoffs that would make the playoffs.
So for a team that's not going to make the playoffs,
I'm going AFC and I'm going Buffalo Bills. I think
(25:04):
the top two teams in that division are going to
be the Dolphins and the Jets, and I think the
Bills finished third and added even the wildcard spots. The
team in the NFC that I'm going with it's gonna
make the playoffs that didn't make the playoffs last year,
it's gonna be the Chicago Bears. They're going from worse
to first. They're going to actually win the NFC North
this year. I think DJ Moore coming over is going
(25:28):
to make Justin Fields a lot better quarterback than he
was last year. I have high hopes for Fields and
actually being in the MVP conversation towards the end of
the year. I think he's going to be this year's
Jalen Hurts.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
You know, he's got a ton of talent, there's no
doubt about it. Justin fields as an athlete is unbelievable.
But can he become a consistent passer, obviously, is what's
going to be the difference. And look, the NFC is
going to have somebody that I think Brian is going
to shock us. Right, there's going to be a team
that wasn't good last year, and in the NFC, it's
possible to make a big jump. I don't know that
(26:04):
i'd go to Chicago, but I don't think it's the
most outrageous thing in the world either. And I have
heard a lot of people kind of speculate that maybe
Buffalo is in line for a setback this season.
Speaker 3 (26:13):
Yeah some of it.
Speaker 12 (26:15):
Yeah, Oh go ahead, Jeff, Yeah, I just I just
have this gut feeling that that Stefan Digg's thing has
more layers to it than people think, and it's just
going to carry over into the season and it's not
going to be good.
Speaker 1 (26:28):
Hey, thanks for the call, Jeff. What do you think,
Brian about Buffalo here.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
Yeah, yeah, I thought that we're on the same page
where maybe we're looking a little bit too far into
the Digs drama.
Speaker 3 (26:39):
I mean, it could linger in.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
The season, but the injury bug is always the wild card.
And that is a loaded division. It's a loaded conference.
The one thing about the Bears, they gave up the
most points defensively. They're thirty second, dead last in the
NFL last season, so man, it's not just a justin
fields thing. That defense has to play oh much better.
(27:01):
And the Lions and Vikings, I know, it doesn't have
a great reputation. Aaron Rodgers leaves there, so I think
it seems a little bit more wide open than it is.
I would be shocked if the Bears won that division.
Speaker 1 (27:14):
You know what, Let's try to squeezing one more real quick.
I know that Frank and I always been winning for
a while. Let's go to Frank. I want to talk
about the NFL. What's going on, Frankiere on Fox Sports Radio, And.
Speaker 13 (27:23):
How's it going be knowing ABG, it's going pretty good.
Speaker 1 (27:26):
I have no disaster so far, you know, all right?
Speaker 13 (27:31):
I want to know, do you actually think just because
of Dan Campbell's reputation in Detroit. Does the Vikings have
a chance to possibly overtake the Lions to win the
NFC North giving the fact of what they did this
after last evening against the Ccahawks in the preseason, which
(27:52):
is gonna mean nothing, you know, Yeah, I mean.
Speaker 1 (27:55):
The Lions are going to be a trendy pick. There's
no doubt about it. They already have been. They're definitely
making under Dan Campbell. I think. I know that when
he got hired and you know how he came in
and some of the things he had to say about
biding neecaps and all this stuff, he kind of sounded
like a little bit of a joke. But the guy,
I mean, the players clearly seem to play hard for him,
and they've got a roster that continues to improve. They
(28:16):
got Hutchinson on the end as a beast, and Jared
Goff is better than I thought he was gonna be
in Detroit.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
Yeah, man, it's a look. Both defenses were brutal last season.
I don't know what it is with the Vikings where
they want a bunch of close games.
Speaker 3 (28:29):
That's not a bad thing.
Speaker 2 (28:31):
I know it can regress to the mean year over year,
and you might not see him win as many this season.
But I think a lot of people are deducting way
too many points from the Vikings this year because they
won a bunch of squeakers last year.
Speaker 3 (28:45):
Like winning close games is a good thing.
Speaker 2 (28:47):
It's not automatically a bad thing, it says if people
think it's a bad thing with Minnesota.
Speaker 1 (28:52):
All right, Brian, I'm excited about this. We've got coming up,
Ask Ben without Ben Maller. It's gonna be fun. I
hope hi's Eddy Garcia. It's Brian no in for Big Ben.

Speaker 1 (29:58):
Twitter sends your quiet.
Speaker 8 (30:00):
It's on Twitter.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
Now we've got to ask Ben. Your questions are answers
Eddie Garcia, Brian Monty Blans, Justin Cooper, Iowa. Sam. We
turn it over to Justin Cooper? What do we got? Coop?
Speaker 10 (30:13):
All right, We're gonna start off with a question from
INCA Terror. He said, for for most of the crew,
I don't know why. I said, mostly like who's not
involved in this question? If you could have a following
like the Malord militia or the Mancy mafia, is that
a thing somebody?
Speaker 6 (30:30):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (30:34):
What would you call it?
Speaker 1 (30:35):
He said?
Speaker 7 (30:35):
Mine would be the INCA ingrates.
Speaker 1 (30:37):
That's pretty good. Yeah, I think I don't know. I
didn't come up with this, but somebody did have the
Garcia cartel. That's right, that's that's mine. How about you, Brian?
Speaker 3 (30:46):
Well, we did this a little bit.
Speaker 7 (30:48):
Nobody.
Speaker 3 (30:49):
Yeah, we're doing weekend overnight.
Speaker 1 (30:51):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (30:52):
Nobody's Yeah.
Speaker 1 (30:54):
Nice, So we got the many Mafia.
Speaker 7 (30:57):
I do like that.
Speaker 3 (30:58):
Yeah, I keep that one.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
Sam.
Speaker 7 (31:02):
Let's see.
Speaker 9 (31:05):
Sam's I don't know. I don't know the Sam Silly's.
Speaker 1 (31:11):
Something to do with Corn, right already, ioway, Sam, you're
already I Corn.
Speaker 7 (31:22):
Coop crew. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (31:25):
That's about you need something that's military like to fit in,
you know, Milicia and Coop commanders.
Speaker 10 (31:34):
All right, we have the next one from Cowboy Killer.
He wants to know for the crew. We've we've done
this before. We have lots of new people on the show.
What is the first jersey you ever received as a
present or or purchased?
Speaker 1 (31:46):
Oh, it was a Greg Lloyd Pittsburgh Steelers jersey and
I actually got it for free. This was before the internet,
so you had to like send away in a catalog
for it, and so I sent away for it and
it never came, and so I contacted the company. I
think it was like ry Dell or something like that.
I don't remember who was doing the dreamy back then,
and they gave me my money back, and then like
(32:08):
two weeks later the jersey showed up. So I got
actually got it for free. How about you?
Speaker 3 (32:11):
Brian Man I'm trying to think old school.
Speaker 2 (32:15):
I'm pretty sure I had like a super super cheap
when I was a little little kid, Marino Jersey.
Speaker 3 (32:21):
Pretty sure I had that.
Speaker 2 (32:22):
I don't know if it was technically a jersey or not,
but it was definitely in the jersey family, a.
Speaker 1 (32:28):
T shirt jersey kind of thing.
Speaker 2 (32:30):
I think it was closer to a jersey, but it's
like for a little little kid.
Speaker 3 (32:34):
It wasn't like a replica or anything like.
Speaker 1 (32:35):
Did it come with the plastic helmet as well that
you could wear?
Speaker 2 (32:38):
Man, I couldn't tell you. I'm not sure, maybe, but
uh yeah, I rocked that every day, you know, like
I would literally just sit shirtless until if my mom
was washing it.
Speaker 3 (32:49):
I would wait until.
Speaker 2 (32:49):
I wouldn't wear anything until it was washed, and I
just rock it some more.
Speaker 1 (32:53):
You know.
Speaker 3 (32:54):
That was That was my wardrobe back then when I
was a little Mantilla.
Speaker 1 (32:58):
Are you a jersey person?
Speaker 13 (32:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (33:00):
Oh I have too many jerseys. I can't remember who
my first one was. There were gifts, but it was
either a cheap I mean like from Ross Allen Iverson
seventy six ers, or it was a black Chris Weber
Sacramento Kings one of those two was my first one.
Speaker 1 (33:18):
I would have bet Dodger jersey or no.
Speaker 6 (33:20):
You know, I growing up my family wasn't really into baseball.
It's something that I picked up on my own. You know,
in Costa Rica, baseball wasn't that big of a thing.
Oh yeah, Soccer is a big thing over there, and
you know basketball, So like that's kind of what I
grew up with. And so I had a lot of
basketball jerseys.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
Starting off, Sam, it has to be in Iowah Hawkey's jersey, right.
Speaker 9 (33:41):
I did have the little kids Iowa Hawkeye jersey, the
plastic helmet with like little foam pads in there. I
had a Cubs uniform as well. But Eddie, I have
to bring up the fact that a few years ago
you gave me a Iowa It had to have been
an alignman's jersey, like worn by Alignment, because this thing
is like a dress on me. It's a number in
(34:02):
like the nineties and it's like ninety one. It's an
away jersey and I have it and I will wear
it at some point for the start of the season.
I have to bring that up because you're hosting and
you gave that to me as a gift. You said
you got it from Kirk ference when he was a.
Speaker 1 (34:15):
He was a weekly guest back to day and he
sent us, all, Iowa, this will be much more meaningful.
Speaker 9 (34:21):
So I was saying to me, so I do, and
I so I have that, and I will I will
wear that, and I always appreciate.
Speaker 7 (34:27):
That for Meddie nice, that's sweet, coop.
Speaker 10 (34:30):
Uh. It was a twelve Davis jersey and it was
like one of those screen like silk printed like like
mesh kind of jersey situation. And my mom bought it
off of eBay and I remember opening the box during
Christmas and it reeked a Boh.
Speaker 1 (34:52):
Did you wash it and wear it? Yeah?
Speaker 7 (34:54):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (34:54):
Could you salute the TV when he scored a touchdown?
Speaker 7 (34:57):
Absolutely?
Speaker 10 (34:57):
Absolutely love the mile high slot. Enough running backs do that?
All right, let's do Let's do this one from Jeff
Lucas and he wants to know have any of you
ever called into a radio talk show.
Speaker 1 (35:09):
Oh yeah, back in the day when I was a kid.
I don't know if you remember this name, Brian, but
it was the one on one Sports network. Yeah, there
was this guy named Papa Joe Chevalier. Oh yeah, yeah,
he was a huge Steelers fan, so I'd always call
up and ask him some Steeler question.
Speaker 3 (35:24):
That's fine.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
I remember that was when I first started listening to
sports radio. I had listened to Mike North in Chicago
because I was from South Bend. I could still hear
Chicago stations. But Papa Joe, I remember him talking about
gambling one time, Eddie, and it was some baseball game
and he's like, oh, suitcases, suitcases in terms of the
money that you were gonna bet on this game. But yeah,
(35:49):
you know what, I don't know that I've ever gotten
on the air calling in. I've called in before. I
remember calling into Eric Casilius's show because he would do
NFL trivia around the Super Bowl, and I remember calling
in and I didn't get through.
Speaker 3 (36:03):
I don't know if I've ever gotten through though.
Speaker 6 (36:07):
I've never called in for like a radio talk show.
I definitely have tried years ago to like win tickets,
you know, like on Kiss FM here, like a concert
or something.
Speaker 7 (36:17):
I never got through.
Speaker 9 (36:18):
All right, When I have time, I listened to my
old show, the Todd Brammel Camp Show on KGYM in
Eastern Iowa, and I will occasionally call into the show.
I'll text their text line a lot.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
Still you're doing to this day? You do that?
Speaker 9 (36:31):
I yeah, I actually just called in earlier in July
because they talk a lot of stuff I care about, and.
Speaker 1 (36:37):
Todd's and old buddy about it.
Speaker 9 (36:40):
So yeah, I'll yeah, I will call in and I'll
just kind of blurt out my opinion and Todd and
I go way back. So it's fun to kind of
get on the air and just get to ham it
up a little bit.
Speaker 3 (36:48):
Get I'm here without working.
Speaker 9 (36:50):
Yeah, just like my old love, I absolutely have. I
have so much love for that show. So it's a yep,
I'll call in, so all right, Coop. Uh he didn't
specify sports talk. He just said radio talk. So two
times I have gotten on the air in my life love.
Speaker 10 (37:04):
Line Love the first one, yeah, and that was in
middle school. And then the second time was JT the Brick.
Oh wow, no kid, yep, nice.
Speaker 1 (37:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (37:15):
I called to defend j Cutler.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
Really obviously when he was with the Broncos. Everybody thinks
of Aim of the Bears. All right. That was uh,
that was good. I like that.
Speaker 3 (37:26):
It was good.
Speaker 1 (37:27):
Like that, you have fun.
Speaker 3 (37:29):
I liked it.
Speaker 1 (37:29):
Yeah, it's okay. Without Ben, it's a little weird to
do ask Ben without Ben, but I thought it was
I thought it worked out all right. The classic JT
the Brick. We talked about some of the great drops
in the history of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (37:42):
By the way, fun fact, Eddie, I didn't call into JT,
but I was a guest when Fresno State won the
College World Series.
Speaker 3 (37:52):
They just looked for someone.
Speaker 2 (37:53):
They were like, uh, this guy will do And so
I went on and he interviewed me about.
Speaker 1 (37:57):
That good times.
Speaker 3 (37:58):
It was fun.
Speaker 1 (37:58):
Go Dogs. Yeah, all right, what are we looking forward
to the first weekend of preseason action? That's next on
Fox Sports Radio.
