Speaker 1 (00:00):
Oh, if you want soccer, you uh yeah, you came
to the wrong place. But we didn't mention it earlier.
There was a fight in the stands. We had a
WNBA debate. Not really. You can find it all on
the podcast as soon as we wrap things up. Searche
the Ben Malors Show. It is our four as my
buddy Arnie Spaniard likes to call it, when we fill
(00:21):
in and do four hours together, the bonus hour here
on Fox Sports Radio and for Big Ben, I'm Chris Plank.
That's Eddie Garcia, the Rain and Coop running the show
at eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven
seven nine ninety six six three six nine. As we
come to you live from the tire rack dot Com
studios have some good x submission, some posts that we'll
get to to wrap the show up later on. I
(00:44):
guess the the opening segment going back four hours now,
in some ways it's like going back to yesterday, Eddie.
But we didn't really get much out of the near
brawl and the stands, did we. It didn't quite become
the malice in the power show like Ben had. I
wonder if it was overseas how ugly that could have
(01:06):
got or if it was not on h if it
wasn't in Carolina of all places, but just family, protective
family did not blow up into a big story, nor
nor I did, nor did what I think is my
final attempt to get this list in for the show tonight.
So you push back against the list as much as
(01:27):
Ben do, are you? Okay? If I break out a
quick little top three or four here, Ben, we'll do it.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
But he don't. What does he say? Coopy says, it's
not a list, it's Ben's big board or something.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Okay, Oh gosh, I guess something that rhymes with plank?
What the plank? All right, this is my list of
what's gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Now.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
It doesn't even fit there, does it? Well? I'm infatuated
this year, Eddie with players that are not necessarily in
contract years in coaches, but in make or break situations like,
for instance, I think the most obvious one, if I
were to start on Ben's big board or what the
plank are filling the plank? The most obvious make or
(02:09):
break season is in New York with Daniel Jones and
the Giants right contractually, I think it would make a
lot of sense and is in all the things that
have become topics and conversations in the sports world. I
think Joe Shane's comments from the very first hard Knocks
(02:30):
with the New York Giants is evidence enough that hey,
this is this is make or break for Daniel Jones.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
You go gread the offensive line and you're paying the
guy forty million dollars. It's not to hand the ball
off to a twelve million dollars right. My plan is
address the offensive line at some point here in free agency.
We're sitting a six. There's a chance there's an offensive
weapon there. This is the year for Daniel. Plan all
along was give them a couple of years. Is he
our graph the next ten years? Or do we need
(02:57):
to pivot and you'll find somebody else?
Speaker 1 (02:59):
Now, I think Eddie, if I were to put together
my list of make or break seasons with their current team,
not saying their career, not saying their longevity and playing
when your general manager says that you're coming off an injury,
and you know now looking back that they did upgrade
the offensive line, but they also upgraded your weapons in
drafting Malik Neighbors than they did probably Numero Uno with
(03:22):
a bullet in Make or Break situations with their current team.
Daniel Jones is a top that list, right.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
Yeah, I would say so. By the way, are you
in on The Hard Knocks like Brian no Is, I
didn't even know this was going on. It sounded like
you was that audio pulled from The Hard Knocks? Yes, Sarah, Yes,
Sarah Giants. Yeah, I had no idea it was even
going on. And he was rating about it yesterday.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
And you're not alone, I heard. I heard Jason on
the show before us, and he said the same thing
that I kind of feel when it comes to this show.
Jason Fitz was sitting in for Jason Smith. I feel
like I've watched it because I've seen all the clips
that Eddie. I haven't sat down to watch a full episode, right,
(04:06):
So Jason was I've never watched the show, but I
watched enough clips to where I feel like I did.
That's how That's how I feel with The Hard Knocks.
I think Jason's was in relation to like an SNL
bit or. Everyone talked about how great SNL was when
so and so hosted it, but they hadn't watched the show,
but they had watched all the clips. I felt the
same way. I felt the same way. I haven't watched it,
(04:27):
so I'm not all in on it. Why is no
like selling the Is he all in on this thing
right now? Because the first episode was kind of boring
from what I've been told and what I've seen.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Yeah, no, he was as praises, Yeah he was, definitely,
And I'll be honest with you, I don't even know
where to watch it.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
I feel. I mean, you caught me, mid Drake. That's
how I feel about every single piece of content. Everyone
enjoys but me, I'm like, well, were you watching it?
Speaker 2 (04:52):
The last time I watched Hard Knocks it was on HBO.
I know it's not on HBO anymore. Well, HBO doesn't
even exist anymore. I guess it's Max now.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Yeah, yeah, that's how long it's been.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
Although I did tell him that the in season Hard Knocks,
which which I've also never watched before, is the AFC North,
and being a Steelers fan, I am at this point interested. However,
if the Steelers are sucking and Russell Wilson is terrible
who probably should be on your list as well, uh,
and and they're not doing well, I will then not
(05:22):
be interested in watching the inn season Hard Knocks.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
So we'll see by the way, you were right, it
is on Max, now, is it? Yeah, it's still didn't.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
It didn't it didn't it go away from Max.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Or so you can watch according to this, has it
always been on?
Speaker 2 (05:38):
I thought it went off of HBO? No, no, okay,
all right, my mistake.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
But I think you can get it now on YouTube
and Amazon Prime. I think, don't hold me to this one,
Mallard Militia, but I think you can. It's funny because
all all anyone said after the first episode was this
is boring. We didn't learn anything. Then they let you
in behind the scenes on some of their draft meetings,
and now Eddie, everyone comes out, this is incredible. It's
(06:06):
the greatest thing I've ever seen. It's amazing.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
He was talking about the conversation with Saquon Barkley. He
was talking about the quarterbacks. Bringing in the quarterbacks and
tell him what's your favorite play? Show me your favorite play?
Speaker 1 (06:18):
And okay, I've never seen a single episode ever. Mean well,
I guess I've watched enough clips to where I feel
like I have. Did you hear the so you you heard?
Did you hear the Saquon conversation. By the way he
played it, played that, dude, but what promise you pa?
If I was a Giants fan, I would have literally
(06:39):
just started drinking the brown water after hearing that. What
he's gone? You knew he was gone from that moment
when they were trying to even position him for the
press conference, and hey, you know you're gonna get asked
about this, what do you want to say? And to
the creditor Joe Shane, he said, I'm going to tell
him that I offered him more money last year and
he didn't take it. The guy that's the pr person,
(07:00):
except he goes, no, no, and he's like, I'm kidding,
I'm not going to say that. But it it gives
you this kind of cool insight that after episode one
everyone was complaining about And then, by the way, another
side road, I noticed the man who makes the most
money ever off the NFL but hates football more than anyone,
(07:20):
Mike Florio. Jeff Schwartz opened my eyes to that. He
had an article today and it's like, all right, how
much longer until you get one hundred percent access? In
other words, everyone kind of wants to preview the film
and they don't want you in the meeting rooms. But
are we inching closer to like, all right, this is
when we say all access, Eddie, this is all access
(07:40):
you can be in meetings, you can I don't think
we'll ever get to that point, never, But this is
about as close as I think we'll get in the
time being. In fact, I'll be willing to bet that
the Giants will not be happy with the amount of
that information that got out there. Really, I mean, wouldn't
you think or do you think it's been so overwhelmingly
(08:03):
embraced that they might say, okay, all right? Because there
were some that thought that, you know, maybe Shane was
a little bit too Joe Shane was a little bit
too short sighted with how he treated the whole Saquon
Barkley situation. There's others that thought it was wrong that
they were trying to deek Melik. I'm sorry. Marvin Harrison's kid,
(08:24):
Marvin Arison Junior, duh, they're trying to de him into
saying something bad about his former quarterback. I wonder if
they're mad about some of that being out there. I
wonder ed if they embrace it in this new modern
era of there is no such thing as bad puff.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
I would be shocked if teams didn't have control over
what's actually released. I think if they have a problem
with anything, that they're going to cut that out.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
Okay, but you say Brian played it last night, so
you heard the clip when Okay, all right, fair, nothing,
But would you agree with me then that on my
list on Ben's big board when we're talking about play
approaching a make or break season, Daniel Jones, if not
number one, is incredibly high on that list.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
Well, I'll, I'll have to hear the rest of the list, Okay,
I will. I think he definitely should be on the list.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
Number two or at least in this if you will
grouping is Dak Prescott. Now, I'm just gonna go ahead
and say this now so you realize where I'm coming from.
I have often been a Dak Prescott detractor. I'm somebody
that has questioned the commitment at every turn. Not because
I have anything against Dak Prescott. I just I don't
(09:36):
know if he's that dude. But I have now accepted
Eddie Garcia that Dak Prescott is going to be the
starting quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders in the twenty
twenty five season. So now I've got to find everything
positive about him because he's gonna be my guy. But
I just I get the sense that we're approaching a
moment in the Dallas Cowboys' trajectory where we're really, really,
(10:01):
you know, we're reaching some very big time decisions. You
got to make a decision on Dak Prescott, you got
to make a decision on CD Lamb, and they're both
going to be very expensive. I mean, this is it, Eddie,
this is it for Dak Prescott. You can be a
free agent, and I think he's gonna have suitors, especially
when the quarterback class for next year doesn't necessarily look
(10:23):
all that amazing in the NFL draft right now, So,
Dak Prescott make or break here at Dallas. You're buying
it or you're selling it.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
Well, if you're talking just about Dallas, yes, yes, yep.
But like Daniel Jones, we're talking about his career, right.
I don't don't. I don't think he's going to get
another shot with anyone else. I'm not saying he's not
as a starter. Yeah, not as a starter. So but
Dak will definitely get another job somewhere else for sure.
So not quite as big of a make or break
for him. As for Daniel.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
Jones specifically with his team, I have two on this
list now. Again, I think to Eddie's point, too, is
a guy that's he gonna have a job in the
league for a while, you know, as long as his
body holds up. If the Dolphins decide that they're not
gonna win best in him, then there's gonna be someone
out there that well, there is some quarterback hungry. My goodness,
(11:11):
we drafted Bo Nicks in the top fifteen. We are
hungry for quarterbacks right now. So I know there's gonna
be a market for Tua somewhere. But the Dolphins keep
saying all the right things, Eddie that keep giving this
he's our guy, we want him here, and yet in
the end they're not willing to even I guess, come
(11:32):
close to the guaranteed money that he wants right now.
And Omar Kelly reported it last week that hey, we're
gonna we're gonna probably see things get pretty spicy between
Tua and the Dolphins. So I don't know if he's
gonna end up playing this year without an extended contract.
I don't know how committed he is to the bit
I don't think anyone's gonna do the Le'Veon Bell, but
(11:54):
I feel like he's a guy that has a lot
to prove, especially if he doesn't get that new deal
before the season.
Speaker 2 (11:59):
I think he's gonna hit the new deal before the season.
I think it's gonna happen. I think it's all just
negotiating at this point, but I think in the end
they are gonna sign him.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
I would like to keep a running tab somehow on
players during some point in the offseason that we debated
or emphatically claimed on Fox Sports Radio that they would
never take another snap with a certain team, and then
that next year they're their starter. Lamar Jackson, right, Oh,
Lamar Jackson. Things are so heated between he and the Ravens,
(12:29):
and then he ends up signing the long term deal.
I think you're right. I think a lot of it
is positioning. Okay, I put I put a coach on here.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
Oh I thought it was gonna hear. I thought you
were gonna say Russell Wilson.
Speaker 1 (12:39):
Oh, I mean I was. I was saving the best
for las. Okay, sorry, so let me just shoehorn in here.
Dennis Allen, Now, oh my god, there's parts of me
that wonder how Dennis Allen still has a job, right,
I'm like, whoa, he's still employed. But I don't have
an answer to that. I don't know how he still
has a job, and ownership seems to like him, and
(13:02):
his general manager believes in him, and I think, I
don't know if there is any pool that Sean Payton
still has, but they still want to have that kind
of connection to the the Sean Payton era. So I
think of all the coaches that I look at, I
know Robert sala is a little bit higher on the odds,
but and maybe he's make or break too, But I
mean it's on the coaching side. There's a chance Dennis
(13:26):
Allen could be the first guy out this year, Eddie,
if things don't go well for the Saints. Now I'm
a little I think the Saints might actually be pretty
decent this year. And by decent, we're talking NFC South.
So you take that with whatever you want to take
it with. But I think Dennis Allen's a guy that's
in a make or break here with the Saints, and
maybe much like Daniel Jones for his futuya, you know,
(13:46):
I don't think he's gonna get another opportunity to be
a head coach if they don't win this year in
New Orleans.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
I haven't given him a second thought, to be honest
with you, I had kind of forgotten he was even coaching.
I would think, if you're asking me make or break
season for a head coach, wouldn't Mike McCarthy be ahead
of Dennis Allen.
Speaker 1 (14:08):
Mike McCarthy would definitely have the more high profile job.
And you're in a contractual season with your starting quarterback
and your star wide receiver. And what year are we
on with McCarthy in Dallas? I mean, what fifth? Is it?
That city here? I think, so hold on, I'm gonna
look at it. Soon be like year three. You watch,
(14:28):
but yeah, no, it's gonna be your five. You're right, Okay,
beat you to it? Make or break baby. Definitely an analyst.
Though Jerry Jones has been weird with coaches. Everyone is like,
I don't want to I think he should be fired.
I can't believe that he's held on to X, Y
and Z coach for solo. Jason Garrett Wade Phillips even
maybe maybe it's not as hot as we think. But
(14:49):
I will say if Dean Sanders has a little success
at Colorado. You never know, you never know, Okay, I
will accept McCarthy being ahead of Dennis Allen. Now for
the penultimate one, Russell Wilson, I make or break here,
maybe as a starting quarterback.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
Was he really on your list or did I?
Speaker 1 (15:06):
No, no, no, I'm not not kidding. He was the last guy,
absolutely all right. See, and because I had Dennis Allen
instead of Mike McCarthy, because for some reason, I'm high
on the Saints. But Russell Wilson was number five on
this list. Absolutely, you buy it or sell that he
can be that guy.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
I honestly have no clue. I really don't know how
this is how this is gonna go. I'm I'm an
optimist typically obviously I'm a Steelers fan, but I have
no clue how this is going to go with him.
I really am. My eyes are they are wide open,
and I am curious to see how it's going to go.
I just don't have a good feel for it. I
(15:45):
haven't either.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
It's kind of been a tough one to get a
grasp on because I still think he's talented. I still
think we had Jerry Judy last year. Pinning an apology
letter that all the Russell Wilson haters were supposed to
sign or I'm old enough to remember that, and I'm
old enough to remember a dude that can still sling it.
(16:06):
But I also I just don't know, Eddie. It's terrib
We're supposed to be blow what's the term bloviating, We're
supposed to be just yeah, we're just supposed to be
throwing hot take And I don't have a take on
this when I want to watch it play out? Is
that so bad in this media world to say, you
know what, I don't have a feel on it. I
(16:28):
want to watch it play out. There's a part of
me that could see Russell Wilson being the next starting
quarterback for the Steelers for the next five years and
having successful runs. I could also see a guy that
goes out there either gets hurt or is ineffective and
he's out after three the Baker Mayfield at Carolina thing
right to where it just it never worked. It never
worked for him at Carolina. But we'll see, right. I
(16:51):
don't have a feel for it at all, Eddie, And
that's got to be either exciting or enraging for you,
as a Steelers fan. I can't figure out which one.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
Yeah, I No's trying to sell on it. And he
gave the stats what Russell Wilson's stats were last year
compared to what the Steelers starting quarterbacks stats were last year.
And I but we brought Coop in, the Bronco fan
who had Russell Hawson, and and we we tried to
get his input on it, and he wasn't really he
wasn't really buying what Noah was selling either. Uh So, Yeah,
(17:20):
I know it's it's one of those I'm curious to
see how it's gonna go because I don't have a
good and I don't think there's anything wrong with saying that.
By the way, Ben wouldn't agree. You know, Ben's got it.
You gotta either be all in or all out. But
I don't know. I'm I'm I will say, I'm probably
leaning towards not thinking it's gonna work, but I'm I'm
not sure.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
Yeah, I will say, for for Coop, if you were
to bring up the name Russell Wilson, it's like a
four letter word, right. You don't want to hear that.
I don't want to hear about him being good. Get
out of here, though, I will say we did celebrate
that trade as one heck of a coup for Denver
when it happen right, Oh my gosh, they missed out
(18:01):
on Aaron Rodgers and they got Russell Wilson. I hope
it works. Where's your faith in fields? Then as the backup,
because I think they can give him some time and
find out if he can be a pocket passer or not.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
I don't think it's I don't think he's going to
be an NFL quarterback.
Speaker 1 (18:20):
We'll always have that game against Clemson in what was
that twenty twenty We'll always have that Sugar Bowl.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
Well he will so good?
Speaker 1 (18:28):
All right. When we come back to the Tirack dot
Com studios, your tweets have been fantastic, but there is
one other looming topic in the NFL from last night
that we have to dive into. Did Joe Burrow figure
it out for the rest of us? We'll debate next
on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (19:10):
Were interrupting our promo?
Speaker 4 (19:11):

(19:54):
It's Chris Blank.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
Oh, addie, addie, my daughter is trying to golf. Uh
blessed her heart. She's ten years old and she's kind
of falling for it.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
How did that happen?
Speaker 1 (20:06):
I don't know. I hey, listen, I play a lot,
but I'm not good. It's like I'll all hit balls
in the backyard and we'll go play to local course.
But I just she she kind of got the itch,
and in a good way. Here's the problem kids these days.
They don't want to practice. Do you remember when when
(20:26):
when I was growing up. I remember wanting to practice
baseball all the time. It's like, I want to play,
let's go play. Can't get her out to practice. She's like,
I'll play whenever the tournament comes around.
Speaker 2 (20:35):
That's probably not going to work out.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
Right, And I'm like, listen, I we were coming back
from a tournament. I bring it up for this little speech.
I was so embarrassed of myself that I contemplated calling
off the show tonight because I turned to her and
I'm like, Gwen, this game will humble you. And I
stopped and I'm like, you're talking about golf, you nerd,
you humble you going out there think you're gonna be
(20:59):
tiger Woods. So I changed my holy value in my
whole I'm just gonna let her not practice. I'm just
gonna let her see how it goes. I'm not gonna
be a nerd about it. It's not like she's gonna
make the LPGA. For goodness sakes, she's ten now. I
zero for two in my previous two attempts to create
my tiger Woods out of my child. Yes, but maybe
this is my shot, Eddie. Maybe so, even though after
(21:21):
the third swing and miss today, she did ask me
if she could just pick up in the middle of
a tournament, Can I just pick up?
Speaker 3 (21:28):
Like?
Speaker 1 (21:28):
No, do you know what it costs to get you
in this thing? So I'm kind of struggling right now. Dude.
It costs five hundred dollars.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
You gonna practice.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
You will get there, and I.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
Think we'll hit the ball in the net or whatever
you do. You are practicing.
Speaker 1 (21:45):
And it was kind of funny because again, I'm sure
this is just old man coming out in me, and
it's not some sort of humble brag because trust me, uh,
there's a reason why whenever my buddy Scott whatever is
Scott Shapiro called me. He's like, can you fill in
for Ben? I guess every chance I get. Yes, please,
I'll fill it forbid every chance, not just to work
(22:06):
with Eddie, but he needed the money. But yeah, I
don't remember things being like that. Whenever we were kids.
I played rec league baseball and it's just you and
you played. I don't remember like five hundred, five hundred
bucks for golf.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
I just remember we had to buy cleats.
Speaker 1 (22:26):
That was it. And if you had a nice bat,
if you had the de Marini bat, you were the
Everyone shared it.
Speaker 2 (22:31):
Oh, you get a glove too, but I you know
that glove last.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
Time, forever, ever, absolute ever. Anyway, it gets me to
this point, leadership, all right, I am so intrigued. I
am so intrigued this year to see a couple of
I guess you could say, new head coaches in their
current situations. We were talking about NFL make or break
guys before this segment, right, make or break seasons, maybe
(22:59):
not just for their career, but definitely for the team
they're on. But there are two head coaches in the
AFC West that I am just I'm so intrigued. One
of them, obviously, I'm sure you hear a lot about
Jim Harbaugh. What's the I mean, Karen's got to be
over the moon excited. This man goes and gets offensive
line help. He talks about offensive lineman the same way
(23:20):
that I talk about dessert. It's a beautiful thing right now.
The leadership that appears to be in place with the
Chargers right.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
Oh, absolutely, she's very exciting. I'm not sure so sure
about this year, but next couple of years she's hoping
to see something.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
Now. Now my excitement on leadership, which I struggle out
to get my daughter to practice. The most reassuring thing
in the offseason for the Raiders happened when Travis Kelcey
won on that podcast and talked about the Raiders ruining
their Christmas because what Antonio Pierce had those dudes out
(23:56):
there ready to play, And I wonder, we got a sample, right,
you got a sample. But now this has been an
off season with his stamp all over it, I think
we're not make or break. He's gonna be the head
coach there for a while. They give him a deal.
Mark Davis believes in him, and much like Karen talking
about the Chargers, I don't know if this is that
year for the Raiders either. I think they still got
a little work to do on the offensive side of
(24:18):
the football. But Eddie now having a little bit of
time under his belt, I think we have two intriguing
coaching arcs in the AFC West. The return of Jim
Harbaugh and I guess you can say now the reassurance,
right that stamp of approval from ownership that Antonio Piers
you're a guy, and now we want to see what
(24:38):
we saw on Christmas regularly from this defense as we
continue to build the offense. I think it's two of
the most intriguing stories in coaching this season.
Speaker 2 (24:46):
Well, I'm with you on Harball. I don't know about
Antonio Pierce. To be honest with the.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
Ice Raider hatred, I consents it from you for the Raiders.
I just I just do you think it's not gonna work.
I'm not big on hiring the coach because the player
like him. Nah, I'm not big on that at all.
Speaker 2 (25:03):
I just he was five and four. He was five
and four last year, you know. I just I don't
think he was the best guy that they could have got.
And I think Mark Davis was swayed because the players wanted.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
Him you know, the five and four remark got hurts
a little bit because I think that was pretty good,
Like five and four, what are you talking about? It's great, Fred.
I don't know what that looks like, man, but you're right,
you're right. And I find it interesting that Mark Davis
(25:38):
went completely against whom everyone thought he should get his GM.
Gms don't usually get second chances. Tom Tellasco got a
second chance, so I'll be curious to see how that
plays out. But those, to me are two of the most intriguing.
But you hit it on the head. You hit it
on the head. The most intriguing place to see the leadership,
to see if it still works, is doubt. Because if
(26:01):
things don't go right this year, I think you're going
to see a completely different look for Dallas in twenty
twenty five.
Speaker 4 (26:06):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Ben Meller
Show weekdays at two am Eastern eleven pm Pacific.
Speaker 1 (26:12):
So Eddie, I have fun with audio to wrap things
up and let me pay off my t's before we
hit Twitter. You and Know talked about this last night.
I was intrigued by it. Joe Burrow was on Pardon
My Take, Bigcat PFT commentator, and they kind of asked
his theory and his take on the full schedule. In
(26:33):
other words, we play at twenty game schedule, rights, but
now it's seventeen regular season, three preseason. The hope is
that we're going to get to eighteen. I guess in
some people's minds it's up for debate. Might be nineteen,
might be twenty. But here was Joe what, I don't
think we'll ever get that part right? I mean, I
get it, we a literal fan is about the Texas.
(26:56):
We're already played twenty game schedule. I get it right.
The two preseasons are three in this instance. I don't
think it'll ever be anything. I think. I think eighteen's
about as deep as they can go in the regular season, right,
I would think I would think, I would think. But
here was Joe Burrow from Pardon My Take talking about
what his vision would be if the schedule was expanded.
Speaker 6 (27:18):
I think it'd be cool to do a normal bye
week schedule that it is now, like, have it spread out,
but then like week thirteen, do like the Pro Bowl
break where you're doing like the seven on seven and
all the skills challenges like the NBA does because I
think that would get more ratings for the Pro Bowl. Yes,
and then it would also give everybody that bye week
(27:39):
going into like the last six games.
Speaker 1 (27:42):
I like the way he's thinking, but you also have
to remember they're already going to be dancing around the
Christmas schedule because it seems as if we're gonna have
an NFL game on Christmas every single year. But what
do you make of the idea that Joe Burrow has
not necessarily two bye weeks, but that one of the
bye weeks would be a league wide bye week that
(28:03):
would include your Pro Bowl slash skills competition.
Speaker 2 (28:07):
Well, I think if they're going to play eighteen, they
have to have two bye weeks. I agree as far
as it being a league wide shutdown, I could see
him doing it. I don't know that I think it's
that great of an idea because I don't care about
any of the all star festivities, any skills competitions. I
certainly don't care about the Pro Bowl flag football game.
So whether that's I mean, but that's me. I mean,
(28:32):
there are people that still watch the Pro Bowl, apparently,
I don't know why, but they do, so I wouldn't
be shocked if they did it. It's not for me.
I'm not a big fan of the idea, but yeah,
Brian talked about it yesterday. I think the only thing
that he was saying that did intrigue me was was
it having the super Bowl going into President's Day weekend?
Speaker 1 (28:53):
Yes, that's the I mean, Roger Goodell was already out
beating his chest on that possibility during Super Bowl weeks. Hey,
you guys talk about wanting to have the super Bowl,
you know, during the during a bye What am I
trying to say? Where there's an off day the next day,
so there's a holiday, right right, you guys, Well, here
you go. But in my mind, I'm like, well, you
could accomplish it now by just adding a second bi
(29:16):
week to the schedule. I mean, it's not that hard
to figure out. You don't have to add an extra game.
And I mean there's a great point. Florio brought this up, Eddie.
There's a thought that with what happened with the NBA
TV deal seventy six billion over eleven years, the NFL
has to be looking at the TV ratings for the
(29:38):
NBA and looking at its TV ratings and the audience
it's bringing in and saying they got seventy six billion.
The NFL has an incredible deal, but there is an
out in twenty twenty nine. So to me, it's taken
back to college real quick. A lot of people want
the SEC to go to a nine game conference schedule. Inevitably.
(29:58):
I think it will. But Eddie went, will it win?
The money's right? And I think that's what we're looking
at with the NFL too. Right, if they can go
to the players union or the fellow owners and say,
if we add this extra game, this is the number
that we can end up making from TV networks, I
think that's what is going to lead to this being
in addition more than anything else, Right, could be a
(30:20):
brilliant money play by the NFL to get a little
bit more for one extra game.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
Probably, Yeah, probably, So that's what they do. Yeah, we
were talking about this last night as well, and we
were in agreement. This is this eighteenth game. This is
the opportunity for the players to finally get something big.
But will they blow it like they usually do, or
will they actually you know, be able to get something
on their side for once. We'll see.
Speaker 1 (30:47):
Yeah. And by the way, an All Star festivity week
during a bye week. I like, I think it's kind
of cool, but I don't want any of my guys
doing anything at it. You kidding me, especially if we're
in the playoff mix. I mean, I know when it
was nineteen ninety nine, but I'm still scarred by Robert
Edwards getting hurt in what was it? A sand football game.
Speaker 2 (31:07):
I don't want you to Yeah, I think you're right.
I think it's what it was.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
Yeah, I don't want to tugle war. I don't need
you play in tag. I need you getting ready for
your next week. So I think football is just different, Eddie.
Where you can't it is you can't risk that in
the middle of the season.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
No, I agree, of.
Speaker 1 (31:20):
Course, not every fan is a paranoid, worst thing possible
kind of fan like I am. I don't know about that,
but I feel like I've got a lot of friends
in my group. I don't think everyone thinks my way.
But you know, we might have a little bit more
numbers than you give us credit for. All Right, when
we come back to put a rap on this edition
of the Ben Malors Show, I pulled about eleven hundred
(31:41):

Speaker 1 (32:24):
It's Chris Plank segment before two pros and a cup
of Joe takeover. Eddie and Larina continue grinding here on
Fox Sports Radio. Thanks for let me hang tonight, Eddie.
I want to make sure I say that before I'm
trying to make sure I don't stop all over the
heart out at the top of the hour. I thoroughly
(32:45):
enjoy this.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
We appreciate you doing it.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
Yeah, my best to Ben whenever he gets back from
his vaka, and also to Karen, your wife, a Chargers
fan who we're supposed to be rivals, right because she's
a charge of Hannah Moray. But I want to see
him win every game they don't play the Raiders. I
like Justin Herbert now a couple of tweets to the show.
I'm all in on the Justin Herbert train. A couple
(33:08):
of tweets before we get out, and I got all
this audio that I'm going to I'm gonna play it all, Jonas,
I'm gonna play it all. Larry writes, Today's nothing the
malice in the Palace. I'm sorry, today's soccer fight was nothing, rights, Larry.
The Malice in the Palace wasn't even the worst NBA fight.
The seventy seven Finals, where the Sixers battled the Blazers
(33:31):
was far worse. And the year before in Boston a
fan punched a referee in the finals, and in the
NHL the Bruins went into the stands at MSG and
fought fans.
Speaker 2 (33:42):
Mike Milberry took off the guy's shoe and beat him
with it.
Speaker 1 (33:45):
Listen, Larry, it was the start of a four hour show.
I didn't know where we were going. Okay, there's you're
gonna you're gonna throw a few arrows and you're not Wait,
hold on, throw a few darts and you're not always
gonna hit the bulls eye. I just thought, Hey, I
wonder how big of a story this might become with
these soccer fools running into the stands and fighting for
(34:06):
their families and in that pretty quickly not gonna lie
Late Night drug tester Wrights. Congratulations to Mike Gundy for
getting his honorary toxicology degree from Google University. Here's the
problem with Mike, Here's the problem with Coach Gundy. I
feel like he tries to explain himself too intently to
in depth, and he wants you to know where he
(34:26):
came from and how he came to that decision. Now,
he's probably gonna say something in that process in where
he sticks his foot in his mouth, but that's Mike Gundy.
He does not care. Now. He did go to Twitter
to clarify, which I think was kind of Ungundy like
kind of felt like Mike Gunny's mindset was like, well,
you don't understand what I'm saying. That's you problem. But again,
(34:47):
he does a pretty nice job of keeping the focus
off his players and on him. We did see what
the second call in the car. I shouldn't say that
one of the early calls in the career of Leprechawn Mike.
I think I kind of struggled with it. G Mang writes,
Leprechawn Mike did not sound irish. I loved your tweet
(35:09):
about it, too, Eddie. I expected him to be much
shorter whenever I saw the picture, too. Right, you call
yourself a Leprechaun, either you're a giant and it's a joke,
or you're a really tiny dude.
Speaker 2 (35:19):
Right, Yeah, and I will I will admit I don't
know if he doesn't sound irish. I don't know what
he sounds like, but I really either. I will admit though,
the first time he called in, I was not sure
if he was doing a voice or if that was
actually his voice. I'm coming around more to it being
actually his voice.
Speaker 1 (35:37):
Yeah, I think it might be. I think it might
be Harry James Taylor, my man hype man. Harry stayed
up with us, he writes, We Oklahoma fans have a
Michigan home and home coming up do you all see
more helmet matchups coming in the future. I sure do hope.
So well, let me tell you something, Harry James Taylor,
our man Brady Quinn is coming up next. And my
(35:57):
theory is that the reason you're seeing the conference and
says explode and expansion like you have will you in
Texas to the SEC and then what happened to the
Big Ten is because the TV networks want bangers. They
want the biggest matchups every single weekend. So I get
the feeling you're gonna see some of these big time
non conference matchups continue. But I know if I'm a coach,
(36:18):
I sure don't want them to. It's gonna be hard
enough in conference. And then finally Prido writes, guys, Petros
one ups you two. He's at the PAC twelve PAC
two media circus so big it was dranked at the
Bolaggio bar in Vegas. How about that for rolling out
their season? Yeah, and then the two mascots looking like
(36:39):
they were out. I don't know. I'm fighting for some
ladies at the club chilled on the couch with nothing
to do except enjoy the open bar at the Bolagio. Listen,
there's no reason to bash the PAC twelve. This was
something that they felt like they could do because they
don't have anything else right now. Nothing. You're inevitably gonna
(37:01):
be either absorbed by the Mountain West Washington State and
Oregon State, or I don't know, maybe a lifeline is
sent to you somewhere else. No clue.
Speaker 2 (37:12):
I guess we know who's playing in the PAC twelve
Championship game this year.
Speaker 1 (37:15):
Right, You waited until there were two minutes left in
the show for that one. That kind of that seemed
like an early one that you could drop on us.
There is there is no doubt who's playing in the
PAC twelve Championship game. All Right, you guys, have a
great rest of your Thursday. Two pros and a cup
of Joe is next. Alright, y'all,
