Speaker 1 (00:00):
Man, you talk about an unexpected sweat that is on
the way. We're broadcasting live from the tier rack dot
com studios, tire rack dot com.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
We'll help get you there.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
An unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended installers. Tier rack dot com
the way tire buying should be, man, Eddie, Team USA
they survive in Olympic men's basketball against Serbia. Was not easy,
my friend. They trailed by as many as seventeen points.
(00:32):
They were trailing by thirteen points heading into the fourth quarter.
They rallied, They rallied to pull it out. That was
a tremendous basketball game, Eddie. And I know some US
fans would be like, we didn't win by twenty five.
What the hell? I look at Serbia. They shot the
lights out the first three quarters from three and so
(00:52):
US had to dig deep.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
Man.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
I know it might sound cheesy, but that was some
tremendous basketball on display on what my days are running
together other on Thursday, right, That was a great game, man,
and the US moves on to the gold medal game.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
Not surprised it was competitive, but certainly surprised the way
the game went. I certainly didn't see the US being
down double digits late like that and have to really
pull one out in the fourth quarter. But you know,
got the job done. That's all that matters. And like
I said, I'm not shocked it was close, but didn't
see it quite going that way. But when it's all
(01:26):
said and done, they get the job done. Steph Curry
was amazing and now it's onto the gold against France
and Victor Wimbayama.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
Yeah, that was the Steph Curry game. Thirty six points,
made nine three pointers. Eddie and Kevin Durant said it
after the game, he was like, Steph Curry's been searching
for his game during the Olympics. He hasn't been very
good in a lot of these games, and he was
unbelievable against Serbia with those thirty six points. This that
(01:55):
blows my mind. Serbia led for thirty five minutes and
twelve second Seeddie. The US only led for three minutes
and twenty five seconds, but obviously led when it mattered most.
At the very end of the game. I thought this
was the biggest sequence of the game. This is just
under three minutes to go. Serbia had the ball and
(02:16):
they were up by two, and this is how it
sounded on NBC.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
Thret to shoot Yo Kich, He's gonna have to fade
open the rand short rebound. Oh and b couldn't collect it, Pudanovich,
Tullbridge all dang knuckleball.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
You looked at the pressure on those shots. Now, James,
I'm gonna pick a role, Oh Curry for the lead.
That was it, man.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
You always hear this in the NBA Eddie, where it's
a make or miss league. It worked the same way
in FIBA basketball, where Serbia had a chance to go
up by five points if they made a three, wide
open shot. Guy misses it. Steph Curry gets him back
on the other end with the three. It's a six
point swing. Serbia could have been up by five. Instead
(03:04):
they were down by one and we're talking just over
two minutes to go. That's what swung it. And the
three point shooting was the difference Serbia, Eddie. They were
on fire in the first three quarters, fifteen for thirty
and then in the fourth quarter Oher for nine from distance.
Serbia cooled off and that's the difference in the game.
Speaker 5 (03:24):
Man.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
It was crazy, really fun though.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
Yeah, it's obviously the luxury of the United States is
you can have multiple superstars step up at any point.
We saw Kevin Durant earlier, right, come up big. Now
it was Steph Curry's time. Who knows who it could
be in the Gold Medal Game. You know, if you're
like if you're Serbia and yeah, you know those guys
have played together. But you know you've gotten Nicola okicch
and that's about it. You know, France has a couple
(03:48):
of NBA guys, but there's just nothing that they can,
you know, do to compare the firepower. So you know,
it just that's that's where the US obviously has its advantage,
and that's what they did to win the game.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
You know, it's crazy to Eddie where the final call
from Noah Eagle. I love how he put everything into
perspective or he did a great job just kind of
like I don't know giving the rundown of what just happened.
But listen to Dwayne Wade and Noah at the very
end of this call. This is great on NBC again.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
Oh it clutch it up sure in the United States
trailing by as many as seventeen because the room.
Speaker 6 (04:31):
To the Gold Medal Game.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
Pardon, Was you worried?
Speaker 1 (04:37):
No, I was worried big time, Eddie, because you know me,
every now and then there's a better two were you.
Speaker 4 (04:48):
Were you worried because of some personal financial interests? Yeah,
there was.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
There was a There was a decent, heavy, decent amount
of heavy interest on that game when they were down
big like that, and I'm like, okay, they're not if
they lose this game out right, I'll just take it
on the chin, you know what I mean, Like, you're
gonna miss some bets from time to time, but I
can walk away from Team USA with the talent they
have if they lost to Serbia and say, hey, man,
(05:14):
upsets happened. But uh yeah, I was invested in that one.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
And I didn't know, Eddie.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
I honestly didn't if they're gonna be able to pull
that one out because Serbia was tough. Man those first
three quarters. They hit so many threes and it was
just a hard fought game. But this is the other
thing I started thinking about, Eddie, where it gets beyond
just the Olympics. I started thinking about, you know, as
we get older, sometimes you just outgrow stuff, you know,
(05:42):
where your kid in a sports fan like sometimes one
team means a lot to you, or one sport means
a lot to you, Maybe just start to outgrow it
a little bit. But I'm like, I've really never outgrown
the Olympics and when a game is closely that, especially
in basketball sport, I really love.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
I've never outgrown that.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
I was curious, if you start thinking about your teams
and the sports you love, if you look at your
list and things that you have never outgrown or your
love is strengthened over the years, what would you say
is on your list?
Speaker 4 (06:20):
I just think, you know, the football during the season.
I mean I kind of we talked about it yesterday
for people that listened, and you know, I said, when
the season gets it, it'll get here. And the reason
I say that is is it's changed over the years.
How hardcore I am into it, like twenty four to seven.
(06:40):
Now I wait until the season starts before I completely
am just immersed in it. Whereas back when I was younger,
it was just every day, you know, it was something
even even during the off season there we was you know,
it was always something to get into. Now I'm kind
of like, yeah, I'm going to enjoy my weekends and
you know, maybe watch some movies or TV or whatever,
and then but once the weekends start during football, it's
(07:03):
just all football all week and long. I mean it's
literally watching three games in college football and then you know,
depending on if I'm at a game or or you know,
watching multiple games, three games most likely on the NFL.
It's like that's my whole weekend. I'm invested in nothing
but football. So that's that's not changed throughout my life.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Yeah, that's true man, for me either. Right, if we're
talking football season, I am all in, especially the NFL.
I love college football, but not like the NFL. It's
just look, man, some of these players have been in
the NFL for so long and you've seen their college careers,
and so there's just I don't know, you ever watch
a non sports series, right whatever it happens to be
(07:46):
Breaking Bad or if you're a Game of Thrones fan
or what, like Game of Thrones was eight seasons long.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
There's a whole history of you know the.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
Beginning of when they were kids and now they're in
this stage of their lives and all that time stuff.
It works the same way with the NFL, where you
see these players that have maybe been in the league
for ten plus years, and you've seen their college careers
and you know all the history and drama that's led
to this moment. Yeah man, it just gets bigger and
bigger and better every season. And yeah, man, you know me,
(08:19):
I'm a football junkie, So I think that's the number
one thing. We've talked about it before. I love the
Miami Dolphins. That's always been my childhood team. I love
the NFL more than my favorite team, and a lot
of people might look at that differently, and that's fine,
but that's.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
How big of an NFL fan I am.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
So yeah, man, it seems like it takes forever for
the season to get here, and now it's like, oh shoot,
it's like about twenty seven days or something like that
before the first game of the season between the Ravens
and Chiefs. It's here, man, and man, I couldn't be
more excited for it should be a great season.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
Yeah, you know, and I enjoy going to a lot
of games obviously, you know, through my wife Chargers season tickets,
and you know, I certainly try and support my all
my mater Fresno State by going to some games as well.
So I still I mean, look, TV is watching games
on you know, high death and big screens and all
that stuff. It's it's better than ever. But I still
(09:19):
love going out and checking out the games of person too.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
I do too, Eddie.
Speaker 4 (09:22):
I've got tailgating too. It's a whole event.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
What's your best tailgating NFL experience over there?
Speaker 4 (09:29):
I mean, the they do it up well. They're believe
it or odds, And I know some people are down
on the Chargers fan base, but they have a great
you know tailgating group. You know, they have a certain
parking lot that's like quarantined off just for that, and
they call it thunder Rally and it's just like pop ups,
(09:50):
you know, lined up together and you just go down
and everybody's in a good mood and certainly having a
few adult beverages and willing to share whatever you got there.
So usually it's like the Carnelia, sada and brats and
all that kind of stuff. Can't go wrong with any
of that.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
I've got two more stadiums to check off the list, Eddie,
and then I've been to all of them. I need
to go to Houston and Jacksonville.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
That's it. I've been everywhere else.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
There's a little asterisk, right, there's there's four actually, because
I haven't made it to LA for a Chargers game.
Like I saw him in San Diego. I saw him
in the Was that weird like Roku Stadium or what
was it for?
Speaker 4 (10:31):
Well, I had a few names. It was a stub
Hub for a little while. Yeah, and then it was
like Dignity Sports Park. It might have even been another
name of there. Yeah, it's been a few minutes.
Speaker 7 (10:41):
Then it was Bank of America Stadium, and then you
don't remember that, and now it is Bemo they changed.
Oh my gosh, and I will be going there this
weekend at tomorrow. What's what's going on there?
Speaker 4 (10:54):
A food fighters concert? Oh?
Speaker 2 (10:55):
Oh wow? Okay, not bad?
Speaker 5 (10:58):
You know.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
Dave Grohl is a big flat of Slayer, that's a
true story. Loves him some metal, so thank you for yeah. Yeah, yeah,
no doubt, I got shady.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
I'm sure he likes a lot of different things. He
seems like that kind of guy.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
Yeah, he does seem pretty eclectic. Yeah, A lot of
respect for him as a musician, great musician. That's the weird,
like soccer thirty thousand seat stadium, right, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:19):
I was talking about home, a traditional home, I guess
you would say of the LA Galaxy. Yeah, they have
a lot of things. They have high school football state championships.
It gets a lot of use. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
It's funny because I went to a game there.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
The Chargers were playing the Bengals, and it said whatever
side I bought the tickets on. Might have been stub Hub,
I'm not sure, but it was behind the Bengals bench
and it's said on the site. It was like, your
view may be obstructed, And I'm like, what by what?
I'm like, they don't know what they're talking about. There's
(11:52):
no there's nothing in front of you. We got to
the game, there was the Bengal sideline in front of us.
We couldn't see anything. I see the field at all. Man,
you could see from like the twenty yard line.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
To the end zone. You could see like the red zone.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
That was it. If they're in the middle of the field,
you could see nobody. Literally, you couldn't even see them.
Speaker 4 (12:10):
Yeah, that's kind of like when we were in San
Diego at the old Jack Murphy Stadium there, which was
the multipurpose stadium. Yeah, but so because of that, they
made the front row so low that it was.
Speaker 5 (12:24):
It was that.
Speaker 4 (12:24):
It was that if you were down the first couple
of rows, you were blocked by the by the players.
So everyone had to stand up. So we stood the
whole game. If you sat in the lower bowl we
had really good seats, you had to stand the whole game.
I mean you could sit down, you know during commercials
or you know, halftime, but you had to stand if
you wanted to see. It was a domino effect because
(12:45):
those people down there, they wanted to see, so they
stood up, and then everyone else had to stand up. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
It's kind of like the ten k last night, right,
the swimming and the sen River whatever. Right when you're
you got to be in the front. It's the opposite.
You got to be in the front row to see
them because if you're up top, you can't see if
they're so close to the cement barriers.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
Right, And I have to make it to Allegiant.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
I've made it to the Coliseum right when the Raiders
were over there, but I haven't been to the new
stadium in Vegas.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
I would like to go there as well. So I
guess it's four stadiums I need to check off.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
Although I have seen the Chargers and the Raiders before
I still have to check them off in their new stadiums,
and then.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
It will be complete, Eddie, it'll be complo.
Speaker 4 (13:32):
Who's on the list this year? Do you have a list?
Do you have two to check off or one to
check off? This coming season?
Speaker 1 (13:37):
I would I'd like to get to Jacksonville and Houston.
Especially Houston. There's so much better right. Houston was brutal
for a couple of years, and now with c J.
Stroud and they they've got a real team. I would
like to go there this season. I don't know if
I can make it to Vegas, but if I could
check the Raiders off the list, that'd be a good
(13:58):
one too.
Speaker 4 (13:59):
But have you been to Allegiance, Eddie? I was there
for the last Pro Bowl, the last actual Pro Bowl
before they said this is awful, we need to change it.
And then they went to the flag football game. Which
is is that the one where Mack Jones? Yeah, that
is the one. And I've said this story a few times,
(14:20):
but I hadn't watched a Pro Bowl in years because why,
I don't, you know, I think it's worthless. But I
didn't realize it had gotten that bad because back when
I still watched it. They still tackled. I mean yeah,
he was like, what is this literally not not tackling?
This is terrible. They got I didn't pay for the tickets.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
It really was horrible. You remember, I know you do, Eddie.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
Remember when the late great Sean Yes decleted.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
A Bills punter I think was Brian Mormon at like
old school.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
It was like Kevin Gogan and maybe Neil Smith got
into a brawl.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
They got kicked out of the game.
Speaker 1 (15:01):
They tried to fight each other in the tunnel like
it was a real football game for a long time.
And I'm not, you know, moaning and groaning that it's
gone away. It's just it devolved into what you're talking about.
It literally was two and touch. They didn't want to
tackle each other.
Speaker 4 (15:18):
Yeah. I spent the second half just walking around the stadium.
I didn't even watch the game. I just wanted to
check out the stadium. So that's what I did.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
Man, I don't blame you, all right, We got a
lot to get to a feel free to check in
eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox. Is your phone number,
Melin Militia. If you want to get in here, we
will roll out the red carpet, get you right on.
Coming up next, there are a couple of NFL teams
that are not listening to our wisdom. Eddie and I
were on the same page last night. And then there
(15:47):
are a couple of preseason games, a couple of teams
made the same old mistakes. We'll dive into that. He's
Eddie Garcia, I'm Brian. Now we're in for big Ben
mallor here on Fox Sports Radio.

your news guy, you're announcer guy. I'm at Eddie on
Fox All Live from a Tirac dot com Fox Sports
Radio studios. In for Ben Maller, it's Brian No.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
You know, Eddie, I thought we were very wise at
least at one stage during the show last night where
we were talking about some of these younger NFL players,
where it's like, get him out there, get him some
reps in the preseason.
Speaker 4 (17:21):
Right, like Patrick, I just think it's common sense.
Speaker 1 (17:26):
Well, okay, maybe I gave us a little bit too
much credit, but I'll say we sound wise, like why
is Owl's over here?
Speaker 2 (17:33):
And yeah, it is pretty.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
Straightforward, seems pretty simplistic. We've got the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes,
he's out there, he's gonna be playing this weekend during
preseason action and yeah at a porn stash we saw
on Thursday night, Drake May, rookie quarterback with the Patriots.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
He played a grand total of one series. Eddie.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
He was two for three. He threw three passes in
a game against the Panthers. And oh, by the way,
last year's number one overall pick Bryce Young didn't have
a great rookie season, right, Eddie didn't exactly to that game.
He did not play one snap. He doesn't need any work,
doesn't need any work, finished product. I just don't get it, man,
(18:19):
Why don't you get them out there and get them
some reps, some live action, some seasoning, especially for a quarterback. Man,
It's not like it's a death defying stunt. I don't
know why some teams are acting like it is. It's
crazy to me.
Speaker 4 (18:36):
I agree, there's I have no no pushback on that
at all. I understand. Something happens, everyone's gonna call you out.
What are you doing playing these guys, because that's how
it works. But I just I just don't believe in playing.
I don't know, and I won't even say playing a
safe I just look, it's it could happen at any moment.
(18:57):
It could happen in practice. You know, there's a lot
of rules in place to protect these guys as it is. Yeah,
there's always a risk in everything you do. But again,
we talked about it, you know, yesterday. If it's a veteran,
if it's a guy you trust, if you really don't
think he needs the work, and you you know, like
Patrick Mahomes, to be honest with you, I'm yeah, he
doesn't have to play, but if he wants to, I'm
gonna let him do it. If he if he feels
(19:18):
like that's the best for his preparation, then I'm gonna
listen to my star quarterback. But those guys don't need
the preseason necessarily. It's nice to have maybe give him
a little bit of work. I don't believe in completely
keeping him off the field, but they don't need much.
But some of these younger guys, they definitely need the work.
I don't understand it.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
Yeah, I don't either. There was one other preseason game.
It was the Lions at the Giants. I get if
Jared Goff doesn't play for the Lions, which he didn't.
I get that he played really well last season, put
up some good numbers. He's a veteran, Okay, fine, Daniel Jones,
I could get that also. Oh you could argue he
(20:02):
needs some seasoning over there. But he had a torn
acl last season. I can understand why you wouldn't want
to risk it. You wouldn't want to lose him potentially
in a preseason game when he just suffered a season
ending injury. It's like, Okay, I can at least understand that.
But I thought there was far too much negativity toward
(20:23):
Drake May before the draft. They made him sound like
he was a complete dud, you know where it's like,
I don't know some of the decision making and inaccurate
at times.
Speaker 5 (20:33):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
They made him sound like a seventh round pick. He
went third overall, you know. But the point is he's
not a finished product. I don't know why you wouldn't
get him, get him out there and get him a
little bit more seasoning. Especially Bryce Young, Eddie, he was
dead last in passer rating last season. He was the worst,
Like you gotta scroll down down that worst than Mac Jones,
(20:56):
Zach Wilson, Sam Howel, Josh Dobbs, like Bryce Young was
at the bottom, and he didn't get one snap in
a preseason game.
Speaker 4 (21:05):
And to me and new coaching staff, new system, yes,
I mean, what are you doing?
Speaker 1 (21:11):
I know we got Dave Canalis over there. It's I
don't know, man, I think you get him out there.
Even if you're vanilla, you know you don't have to
get deep into the playbook.
Speaker 2 (21:22):
You don't have to roll him out or run him
or put him in harm's way. Just let him throw
to the ones. What are we doing? I just don't
get it. I do not understand it.
Speaker 5 (21:32):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Ben Meller
Show weekdays at two am Eastern eleven pm Pacific.
Speaker 4 (21:38):
And finally from Major League Baseball from the What Took
Him So Long? Category, the Chicago White Sox have fired
their manager Pedro Grifall, the team twenty eight and eighty
nine on the season. Grady Sizemore has been named interim
manager wow for the rest of the season.
Speaker 1 (21:56):
I didn't hear that about Grady getting the nod. Man
you talk about being a sacker official lamb. It's like,
all right, Pedro, you're the manager of this god awful team,
and oh, by the way, at the trade deadline, we're
going to get rid of most of our good players,
so go get him. And then he's uh, he's axed.
Right after that, one of the text alerts it said
(22:17):
he had been dismissed. I think that sounds way worse
than fired, right, And maybe it's just the wording of it,
but it's the same.
Speaker 4 (22:24):
My favorite term is for someone getting fired.
Speaker 2 (22:26):
What's that?
Speaker 4 (22:27):
I think it's an English term sacked, sacked, sacked, he's
been sacked.
Speaker 2 (22:32):
You would like that term.
Speaker 6 (22:35):
It's such a it's such a sports term, you know,
is it.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
Yes, it's kind of like a medieval times saying.
Speaker 4 (22:43):
I think it's an English soccer thing. That's where I problem,
you know, to.
Speaker 6 (22:47):
Throw potato sacks over people like. Of course I don't know.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
By the way, Eddie, I I have inside sources that
let me know that one of the uh, one of
the members of the crew got some honey barbecue wings
tonight deep in the honey game.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
If you will, do you get down with honey barbecue flavorings?
Speaker 4 (23:11):
Absolutely?
Speaker 2 (23:12):
I don't think I've ever indulged. I don't think I've
ever had.
Speaker 4 (23:15):
That's my go to go it is.
Speaker 6 (23:17):
It's actually my least favorite of all the sauces.
Speaker 4 (23:20):
Well that's good for me.
Speaker 6 (23:21):
Yeah, I get it because I know guys like it.
They love barbecue sauce.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
I don't know what it is, and.
Speaker 4 (23:27):
And so I brought it, did it because guys like
so you and you brought those in intentionally to share.
Speaker 9 (23:32):
Yes, exactly, Well, how nice of you, because it's by
by one boneless wing get a boneless wing free on Thursday.
Speaker 6 (23:38):
So I bought six, got six.
Speaker 2 (23:40):
So what's what do you like? What do you enjoy?
Speaker 6 (23:43):
I like traditional hot and I like lemon pepper, and.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
You got neither of those.
Speaker 5 (23:48):
I got.
Speaker 9 (23:48):
Yeah, I technically got the medium hot. I did medium
hot this time, so like regular buffalo but a little spicier.
But I did not do lemon pepper this time because
last time Buffalo Wild Wings barely put any seasoning on
and then I asked for extra and they put so
much it.
Speaker 6 (24:01):
Cut my mouth up. So I'm just I'm done with
Buffalo wild wings lemon pepper at the moment.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (24:07):
Yeah, that's a blow.
Speaker 6 (24:08):
I have a grudge.
Speaker 2 (24:09):
I'll tell you what, you are a people person.
Speaker 1 (24:11):
If you're getting flavored wings that are not at the
top of your list just because it appeals to the
people around you, I commend you.
Speaker 6 (24:18):
Yeah, that is kind of a bit much for me,
to be honest, I should.
Speaker 5 (24:22):
Really not do that.
Speaker 2 (24:24):
So we got a couple of tweets here.
Speaker 1 (24:25):
Eddie Won from Nick checked in and said, don't forget
the name Qualcomm Stadium, which succeeded Jack Murphy. If I recall,
and I made it to Qualcomm, it wasn't the Murph
when I made it over there.
Speaker 4 (24:39):
Yeah, they called it the Q Yeah after.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
The MURFH the MURFH.
Speaker 6 (24:45):
Who calls it that?
Speaker 5 (24:46):
The murph?
Speaker 4 (24:46):
Everyone?
Speaker 2 (24:47):
Chris Berman was the main guy. He loved calling it
the murph. Philly name.
Speaker 4 (24:51):
Well, he just shortened it. You know, guy's name was
Jack Murphy, Yeah, the Murph. That was before that was
the good old days when they didn't name stadiums after corporations.
Speaker 2 (25:01):
You know that's crazy to me too, Eddie is.
Speaker 1 (25:04):
I don't want to get off on a complete tangent,
but that's the way it is still in college football
with a lot of these stadiums, and it's just funny
to me. I think you're going to see it this
year where you're gonna have corporate logos on the field,
which is whatever they're making a buck. They did say
something about it might be at midfield also, which is
(25:25):
kind of weird, right, Like if you think of LSU
and there's the Big Tiger, it's awesome right, it could
be I don't know, a Low's logo, like Lowe's Home
Improvement logo. It's like, what are we doing here? But
a lot of these stadiums don't have corporate names. I
don't get why you would put a corporate logo on
(25:47):
the field and not rake in millions and millions of
dollars with the corporate name on the stadium.
Speaker 2 (25:54):
Is that not weird to you.
Speaker 4 (25:56):
A little bit?
Speaker 8 (25:57):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (25:58):
But I think a lot of those stadiums are probably
named after the donors that donated a some of them
are money.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
Right, Yeah, it's like, but it's like, name Stadium.
Speaker 4 (26:07):
Denny Stadium. I don't know. I know who Bryant is.
I don't know who Denny is. I mean, I'm pretty
sure it's the guy who sent a big old check
their way.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
Yeah, some of those stadiums, You're right, it is named
after but it's like, I want to say, it's Beaver
Stadium for Penn State something.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
Is it Ohio Stadium for Ohio State? It is like
some of those stadiums.
Speaker 4 (26:28):
Think about the USC has a I think it's American
Airlines Stadium, I believe. I mean everyone calls it the coliseum, right, ye?
Know in their press releases and there's some probably some
signage at the stadium. You know, they'll officially call it that,
but nobody calls it that.
Speaker 1 (26:45):
That's the worst way to spend your money. By the way,
if you shell out millions of bucks and no one
refers to the stadium by the corporate name that is,
that is a bad transaction. But yeah, I look if
Ohio State think of the money Ohio State could break
in with a corporate sponsor on their stadium. I don't
(27:06):
know why they wouldn't do that.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
It's strange to me because, like you said, with all
these NFL stadiums, we used to have the Murph we
used to have Jack Murphy Stadium, and they're like, you
know what, let's earn some cash over here. Qualcomm it is.
You know, I don't know why College.
Speaker 4 (27:22):
I don't blame them for cashing in the big money,
just for putting a name on a stadium. Elle. Yeah,
I do it too if I own a team.
Speaker 2 (27:29):
Yeah, I'm surprised College hasn't done it.
Speaker 4 (27:31):
As a fan though, I like, I've gotten to the
point where I don't even learn. As Cooper was talking
about the name of the it used to be stub Hub.
That was what the original name was, so that's kind
of what I remember it as. But it's been changed
like four or five times already.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
It's not that old.
Speaker 4 (27:47):
So I don't even I don't even bother to learn
what the new corporate name is of most of these stadiums.
Speaker 2 (27:52):
Yeah, that is strange.
Speaker 1 (27:53):
Or sometimes the corporate name is so strong, like Staples,
everybody called it Staples.
Speaker 2 (27:59):
They still might call it's Staple, call it Staple, yeah.
Speaker 4 (28:02):
Which it's kind of weird too though, because it's not
like Staples is some kind of awesome name. It was
just as dumb as any other name you put on there.
Speaker 2 (28:09):
But it's so Yeah, I sticks it was memorable.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
Late night drug tester checks in on Twitter and says,
if you make it to Jacksonville for a game, will
you sit inside the pool? I would like to know this, Eddie,
is is there an up charge to sit in the
pool if you go to a game in Jacksonville? Right?
Speaker 2 (28:30):
Like, what do you have to get that thing?
Speaker 4 (28:31):
I have no idea. I don't I don't know that
I would care to do that. I don't know. It's unique.
I get that. And there's certain stadiums where I might
want to say, like, make me sit on top of
the green Monster. I think would be kind of cool.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
That would be cool.
Speaker 6 (28:45):
Yeah, so sorry, You get to swim and watch the
game at the same time.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
Yeah, yeah, that's kind of cool. It's awesome and.
Speaker 6 (28:52):
You get to wear a bikini and everyone can see it.
Speaker 4 (28:55):
Well, you could want to see me.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
Yeah, I don't think. Good dude, maybe, but not me.
Speaker 1 (29:00):
Yeah, I would Is that available if you go on
stub Hub or ticket Master wherever you go, can you
buy tickets.
Speaker 2 (29:09):
In the pool like that?
Speaker 6 (29:11):
I really don't know that I would pay it.
Speaker 2 (29:14):
I think I would too.
Speaker 4 (29:16):
I would not.
Speaker 6 (29:17):
Maybe it'll come with a complimentary margarita.
Speaker 1 (29:20):
I would think there would be some free you know,
drinks or free grub something. I would think there's something
like that.
Speaker 4 (29:27):
But by the way, USC it's they've named the field,
which is another trick they use. Hey, yeah, so it's
the Coliseum, but it's United Airlines Field.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
Oh okay, gotcha. They're doing that with Alabama.
Speaker 4 (29:42):
Yeah, Nick Safield, right.
Speaker 2 (29:43):
Yeah, gonna be Sabinfield, which is cool. I'm cool with that.
I just I don't know, man Eddie.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
Some of these generic college football stadiums, I don't understand
they'd be making millions of dollars and now they're paying
the players.
Speaker 4 (29:58):
You know that it'll old. It happen soon enough, it should.
Speaker 1 (30:02):
I don't know why it's taken so long. They're looking
for all these ways to make a buck. And it's like,
your stadium name is Ohio Stadium. How about I don't
know the Bisco Stadium and you make twenty million off that.
Speaker 5 (30:16):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (30:16):
Just an idea, right, Like my.
Speaker 4 (30:19):
Thing is, if you're going to have a corporate name,
how would be something that's like synonymous with your yeah area,
like like Heinesfield for Pittsburgh. Right, that's a that's a
pencil from the company. That was good. That was I
like that?
Speaker 2 (30:30):
That was good.
Speaker 4 (30:32):
Yeah. Yeah, they had changed, not at all, change into
something else. My wife asked me, what's the name of it.
I know it's a for sure, I don't even know
what that means.
Speaker 2 (30:41):
Oh yeah, yeah, that's right.
Speaker 7 (30:44):
So I'm doing some some research here because I was
curious about all this name changing and apparently I'm confusing
two separate locations, which I did not know that there
were two separate So there's there's two of these soccer
stadiums in Los Angeles.
Speaker 4 (30:59):
Yeah. Yes, the Bank the Bank of America one, I think,
or the Bank of Bank of California. Well, it's the
one by the Colisseum. Okay, so that's what I thought.
I thought I was going to. That's what I'm going
to tomorrow. Okay, that's I thought.
Speaker 2 (31:11):
That was the stub Hubs.
Speaker 4 (31:12):
No, no, no, that's the home of l A FC.
So there's two MLS teams in town. I didn't know
if you knew that, and I did not actually won
they won a championship recently.
Speaker 5 (31:23):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (31:23):
And then the LA Galaxy plays in Carson. It's on
the campus of cal State Dominga's Hills. We probably don't
know where that is either, but wow, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah.
There's there's so many stadiums and arenas in this area.
It's it's ridiculous. That's why they have you been to
this one? I've not been to the Bank the I've
not been to the one you're going to.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
No, Okay, which one was I at, Eddie?
Speaker 4 (31:48):
I think you were at the one in Carson if
you saw the Chargers. Yes, that was the one in Carson.
That was the former Stub Hub. So apparently we we've
got misinformation, so they have not changed their name. I
don't think we could check, but for for a fourth time,
I guess it's maybe it's still Dignity.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
Yeah, Dignity Health Sports, Dignity Health Sports.
Speaker 7 (32:08):
Yeah, yeah, the tongue.
Speaker 6 (32:10):
But it's it started as Home Depot Center.
Speaker 2 (32:14):
What were the other names?
Speaker 1 (32:15):
Because that it was something else the time that I
went to it, and I can't think of what it was.
It's like something with the I like the you know
how the jerseys in the NBA they have the little
corporate patch on them. It might have been what the
Houston Rockets have because I remember seeing the Rocks and
(32:35):
I'm like, I think that's the stadium I went to
the one time that the Chargers were in Carson. I
don't know, but I'm strangely curious what it was named
at the time when I was there. It's like four letters.
Speaker 2 (32:48):
I want to say Velo Sports Center.
Speaker 4 (32:51):
No, it's only been it's only been three things. It
was Home Depot Center, then stub Hub and now Dignity
Health Sports Park. That's it.
Speaker 2 (32:59):
Wow, that's it.
Speaker 6 (33:01):
What is the oldest field or like coliseum in the
whole US? Which one's the oldest.
Speaker 4 (33:07):
USC is pretty old. I don't know if it's the oldest,
but that's pretty USC.
Speaker 2 (33:09):
Has been around, Wrigley has been around.
Speaker 4 (33:12):
Probably some IVY League, oh yeah or something.
Speaker 2 (33:15):
Yeah, yeah cool.
Speaker 6 (33:16):
I would love to visit, like the first ever one.
That'd mean fifty what if.
Speaker 2 (33:20):
They have a pool in the first ever week.
Speaker 4 (33:22):
I don't think Yale has like a woman.

No, thank you, Eddie, So better late than never. This
is crazy, right, So this is the Summer Olympics that
are winding down.
Speaker 2 (34:26):
Here.
Speaker 1 (34:28):
We had nine American figure skaters finally get their gold
medals here.
Speaker 4 (34:33):
I saw that. I didn't know what that was all about.
I guess you're gonna explain that to me.
Speaker 2 (34:37):
Yeah, this is from two years ago.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
They competed in Beijing and Team Russia, those dirty doping
Russians over there, huh. They were disqualified. And so the
nine American figure skaters got their gold medals two years
later at the Summer Olympics in Paris, which was just
an odd scene. They had them kind of on this
stage of all these people and they were presented with
(35:02):
their gold medals two years after the fact.
Speaker 2 (35:05):
Pretty strange, right.
Speaker 4 (35:08):
Yeah, I you know, hey, free trip to Paris though,
pretty awesome.
Speaker 2 (35:11):
Sure, Hey it works out there now.
Speaker 4 (35:14):
I don't know they could have just sent him in
the mail, right they.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
Could have right.
Speaker 1 (35:19):
Can imagine if it was, you know, one of your
Amazon packages on the front porch and someone stole that thing.
You know it got your gold medal in there. I
don't know what these games would be called. But I
don't know if you're up for this, Eddie. But Coop
and Lorena were watching some long jump action earlier and
(35:39):
they've been inspired. They have the Olympic spirit burning deep
inside of them and they would like to. Yeah, they
would like to do a little Hallway long jump this evening.
I wish I was in La with you guys. I'd
be all over this. Are you in for the long
jump Hallway Olympics between you, Lorena and Coop this evening?
Speaker 4 (36:05):
Eddie?
Speaker 2 (36:05):
Are you in for this?
Speaker 4 (36:06):
Yep?
Speaker 5 (36:06):
For it?
Speaker 4 (36:07):
Uh? Probably not?
Speaker 5 (36:09):
No?
Speaker 1 (36:10):
How about broad jump like the NFL combine where you
just stand there and then you jump as far forward
as you can.
Speaker 4 (36:17):
What's in it for me? Though?
Speaker 6 (36:18):
It's it's just pure competition, Eddie, Okay, it's just to
do it.
Speaker 2 (36:22):
The problem.
Speaker 4 (36:23):
The problem is that I'm probably more likely to hurt
myself doing this thing.
Speaker 6 (36:29):
That would be even more engagement on social media.
Speaker 4 (36:34):
Saying I'm the fittest of the group. Is really not
saying much for you guys. If that's the case, I
don't remember.
Speaker 1 (36:41):
My money's on coop, Eddie. This is the main I
want to see what the betting lines are. I'm interested
in participating financially.
Speaker 4 (36:48):
In this thing, if that's funny, because it's true.
Speaker 6 (36:53):
Yeah, I'm going to go tape down the hallways here
in just a minute so we'll know where to.
Speaker 2 (36:58):
And then we go. There we go. That's why I like. Yes,
just like the long jump right, yeah, that line.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
Yeah, you got to get close to the line, close
to the line without going over. I did some crack
research real fast, Eddie. So we were talking about stub
Hub Center that it's been renamed. I don't know what
it's named now, you know it right, Dignity Health Sports
Park on Health Off the Dignity Health Sports Park. They
(37:26):
did a thing with the field where it was named
ro Kit Field. I thought it was the name of
the stadium. It's ro Kit Wow, Okay, yeah, it's like
affordable mobile devices. So, and I don't know the whole
story on this, but it was it was the former
Jersey patch of the Houston Rockets and They want an
(37:48):
arbitration ruling because the company filed for Chapter seven. There's
this whole messy thing, and the Rockets got over eleven
million dollars on this crazy.
Speaker 2 (38:00):
Coming up neck. Some teams can't get out of their
own way.
