Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello and welcome. It's our dubber four. Hour four is
knocking at the door. We go to La La Land,
where Jim Harbaugh says he left Michigan for the Chargers
to test himself at the quote highest level. Do you
believe that's the real reason that he left Michigan. Also,
(00:23):
how do you dissect running back Breise Hall saying that
the forty nine Ers just played harder than his Jets
and coach speaking of the Jets, Robert Salah said, the
Jets getting the defense fixed is not going to be
a problem. Is that the way you see things after
the forty nine Ers treated the Jets like a ball
(00:45):
of Plato in that Monday night game. We talk about
all this and more. Right now make way for our
numb burd four. Have a tremendous state today, the eleventh
day of September, a very important day in American history.
Have a great, great time. Here's our four. It was
(01:09):
all part of the plan. It was all part of
the plan.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Wel come, in the beginning of another.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
Hour of the Ben Mahler Show.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
We are in the air everywhere in Alliance as our
takes taste like more fun coast stuck coast border, thevter
and beyond on the vast and euphorically powerful microphones of
FSR which never shut off. Emmating live from the factory,
(01:44):
the factory of Audio fund as we break the monotony
of it all. We're broadcasting live from thee tiract dot
com studios tyract dot com. We'll help you get there
in unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free road hazard protection,
and over ten thousand recommended installers tyre iraq dot com.
(02:07):
The way tire buying should be ten thousand, almost as
many pounds as Fat Daddy.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
Who's a fan of this show. He's like ten thousand pounds.
Unless he's not. He's just called fat Daddy. So our
lead this hour, we're gonna bounce around the NFL. The
first stop on this three stop destination, we're gonna start
in LA where Charger coach Jim Harbaugh got off to
a good start. Chargers played grounded, pound took advantage of
(02:36):
Raider mistakes. Raiders actually played pretty well and then faded
in the LA heat in the fourth quarter. But Jim
Harbaugh explain why he vacated. He did a recent interview
here on our air, by the way, and explain why
he vacated his gig in the Big Ten. If you
didn't hear it, perhaps you were not listening, because you're
(02:56):
listening now and you're listening then, or maybe your city
does not get that show. But appearing on Fox Sports
Radio's Dan Patrick Show, Harbaugh said that he left Michigan
after nine seasons nine seasons to pursue his goal of
coaching football. He said at the quote highest level is
(03:17):
what he said, now, Harball. He referenced wanting to win
a championship. Remember, the forty nine Ers were in the
Super Bowl back before Colin Kaepernick went off the deep
end there. But they were in the Super Bowl against
the Ravens and they didn't win. The Ravens won. So
there's a lot to unpack. But let us discuss the
question Jim Harbaugh saying that he left Michigan for the
(03:42):
Chargers to test himself at the highest level. Do you
believe him? Do you believe him?
Speaker 3 (03:49):
All? Right?
Speaker 1 (03:49):
So I've got Carpetbagger, fortune Cookie and Magic Kingdom and
we will put all of these things to yah and
it's just gonna be that the takes are gonna be
too hot to handle. The takes are gonna be too
hot to handle. So to to lead off here, I
will preface this by saying, my first take is that
(04:10):
Jim harbar didn't lie that that was part of the equation,
that was part of the arithmetic. The challenge is certainly there.
The way I would answer this is that Jim Harbaugh
gave a version of the truth, but not the whole truth,
and definitely nothing but the truth. There was a lot
(04:30):
that was left out. It's called a lie bio mission.
Truth be told. He never planned on leaving the forty
nine ers. I believe that to be true. Do you
agree with me on that? That he ended up at
loggerheads with management and he started losing things a little bit.
That he was upset with the roster moves, and then
(04:52):
he wasn't doing as good a job as the front
office thought he should be doing. They were fighting over
players in the roster. And then so he found Michigan
as a safe space, a safe landing space. And remember
he was not good when he first went to Michigan.
Not supposed to bring that part up, but there was
some dark times for the Wolverines when he first got there,
(05:16):
and people were like, what's going on? But eventually he
settled in right and he's dominated the last few years
and has had ownership recently of the Ohio State, much
to the disappointment of Dick and Dayton and Justin in
Cincinnati and all the other boys in Cincinnati. But he
(05:37):
was able to out fox the NCAA. That's the main
part of the story. Right when they closed in on
his ann Arbor hideout, he took his rocket ship to
la And Harbaugh is a coaching carpetbagger, unlike his brother
John Harbaugh, who's been in Baltimore. And I don't see
(05:59):
John Harbor at this point. If they didn't get rid
of them a couple of years ago, I don't see
them getting rid of John Harbaugh as long as he
wants to coach the Ravens. Jim Harball, though it's just
a stopover. He'll have success with the Chargers and then
he'll hop back on the merry go round because someone
will annoy him. He won't get exactly what he wants,
and he'll swashbuckle his way to some other NFL out
(06:21):
poster or go back to college football once the punishment
is over all. Right, now, furthermore, we go back to
the fallout fallout for Monday night football blowout seen by many,
seen by many Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson and running
back Breese Hall. They came out with strong statements following
(06:43):
the gutlass performance by the Jets. He got absolutely thumped
by the forty nine ers. Now, Wilson acknowledged that the Jets,
he said, our quote not there yet. Talk about an understatement.
He also pointed out that the forty nine ers whooped
the Jets ass Now, the comments by Breese Hall I
thought were juicier. I thought they were meteor and I
(07:07):
think that's where we're going to go. So brief Paul
went further. He said, and this is the money quote.
The Jets running back said that San Francisco quote. Just
played harder than us, just played harder than us. What
woll uh? So, let us discuss the question, how do
you dissect running back Breesehall saying the forty nine ers
(07:31):
just played harder then the Jets. So tell me that
this is a boondoggle without telling me right to my
face that this is a boondoggle. And this is always
something that is insane to me, that maximum effort and
(07:52):
hustle are a couple of things that do not require
elite athletic ability. You don't have to be the biggest, fastest,
or strongest. You don't. And typically the one that puts
the most effort in has an advantage and can overcome
whatever perceived flaws in the talent department they have. And
yet it's a problem.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
Now.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
I realize that we're talking about human beings, and human
beings are fallible and that we don't always put the
greatest effort out. But this is the first game of
the season, and the bigger problem is what an indictment
this is on Robert Salah, the raw Rah motivational speaker coach.
If you read the fortune cookie, it says hard work
(08:33):
pays off in the future, laziness pays off right now.
And a guy that is an amateur Tony Robbins type
guy with all these quotes and all that masquerading as
a coach, And you're telling me that he couldn't get
these guys to stop loafing around in the first game
of the year. They were on autopilot. Really that the
(08:56):
whole bag of tricks none of them worked the first
game of the year. All right, last thing, now, speak
of the Devil, and the Devil shall appear. Robert Salah
was mister happy, mister happy pants. The day after well,
he pretended to be a little down. He also said,
though he gave a mixed emotions. He said the Jets
(09:19):
getting the defense fixed after they didn't stop anybody. He said,
getting the defense fixed is not going to be a problem.
Is that the way you see it? No, that is
not the way I see it. No, because it's not
the talent. The talent is there. It's these guys are
(09:41):
are lazy and Robert Salad, I don't care what unless
you get them smelling salts or they've all got their contracts.
What are you gonna do? Like sala the game was
in the Bay Area. He must have stopped in Anaheim,
had a connecting flight in Anaheim on his way home
or Orlando. This was a trip to the Magic Kingdom
(10:02):
destination Fantasy Land, right. I mean, you talk about a
public flogging on a grand stage and if and maybe
I'm incorrect on this, but my take is, if you
can't get guys to tackle and block with any kind
of gusto in a measuring stick game against one of
the top teams in the NFL the first game of
(10:24):
the year with all of the perceived problems that they
had in terms of their star player wasn't playing. Guys
didn't practice that much. They they treated training camp like
root canal and you let some no name running back
run around like he was Marshall Falk out there really
(10:47):
in an island game, Like, how are you gonna get
consistent performance out of this team when the games are
not in the spotlight, like for example, this weekend, this
is just a regional broadcast the Jets and the Tennessee Titans.
And so Robert sala is breathing fire here. He's playing
(11:07):
with fire. He's breathing fire because if the Jets lose,
and it's not a guarantee the way they play with
a lack of effort, it's not a guarantee that they're
gonna take down the Titans. And then you'd say, well,
they'd have an advantage if Tennessee had won that game
in Chicago. And there's normally when you look for, at
least from the gambling perspective, is in Week two, you
generally like to bet on teams coming off a loss
(11:29):
and bet against teams coming off a win. I believe
there's only a couple of situations this weekend where that happens.
But generally speaking, as a rule of thumb, the team
that loses plays better in week two, the team that
wins doesn't play as well. And so this game, the
Titans blew a seventeen to nothing lead against the Chicago Bears,
(11:49):
and their head coach said, well, we should have probably
just punted every time we got the ball. We would
have won the game. So if the Jets lose to
Tennessee this weekend, then they've got a quick turn around.
I believe they play the Thursday game in Week three
against the Patsi's should they lose that game? Am I
wrong in thinking that Robert Sala will be working for
(12:11):
the NFL propaganda television network by week six, Week five,
week four, that he'll be collecting unemployment? Now, I do
not buy that Bill Belichick is going to take a
job during the season. However, it's not out of the
(12:32):
realm of possibility. I don't think it's going to happen.
I certainly the idea that Rogers and Belichick would work
well together see seems a little far fetched. But the
Jets believe that they're a Sleeping Giant, and if they
lose the first three games of the year, it's the
SoJ Sam Old Jets and then watch out, floodgates are open.
(12:56):
It is the Ben Malor Show. If you'd like to

a rare Bill Body Slam. We'll get to that. And
a coach in the NFL has said, we have some
work to do, some work to do. But what exactly
does that mean in what context? We'll get to that
as well. We'll get to it all. We will do
it next.

(15:13):
got some work to do. We got a little work
to do. Just get back to the calls, and who
do we have here? Eeny meany miny mo. Pickach caller
by their name, and let's say hello to Mitchell in Ohio.
Hello Mitchell, Hey, what's up man?
Speaker 7 (15:31):
I got a fun fact for.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
You, just what I was hoping for, Mitchell, fun fact.
I was really hoping to get that. And here you are.
You're gonna give me what I want.
Speaker 7 (15:40):
Yeah, you may have already said this. I've been asleep
a lot lately, but do you know that a baseball
would extend the season till the end of November and
give the White Sox another seventy five games, and they
would go on baseball's longest winning streak ever and win
all seventy five games. They would still be under fund.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
Yes the math, you really have been sleeping. Yeah, they're
eighty games under five hundred, So they would they could
give them seventy nine games and they could win them
all and it wouldn't matter.
Speaker 7 (16:17):
I got another fun fact.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
Oh, bonus fun fact. The bonus fun fact from our friend,
one of the greats, Mitchell in Ohio.
Speaker 7 (16:25):
If this is really considered a fun factor now, But anyway,
in my opinion, the government, I mean not not the government,
but the NFL and the TV networks or why inflation
is like it is just a statement.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
I like this, Okay, So expand on that. So you
believe the cost of butter and milk is here because
of the NFL.
Speaker 7 (16:51):
Well, how do you think they're paying for these contracts?
Are paying because of the money the TV networks give them?
How do you I mean you think the TV network
going to Santa Claus or what that they're getting their
money back through commercials. And who do you think is
paying for those commercials? The American people when they pay
for these products.
Speaker 8 (17:08):
So yeah, yes, I like this.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
This is actually pretty good, Mitchell. This is one of
your better takes. I agree with Coop. You know what,
we should boycott the NFL because the price of cheerios
is going up. I agree with you. It's great.
Speaker 7 (17:24):
Take out these contracts. I mean, come on, Dack Prescott
and I'm a Cowboys fan, I know.
Speaker 1 (17:33):
To losing the playoffs and who gives to sixty or
the word on the street is that Mahomes is going
to renego see his contract at the end of the
year and then he'll be the new highest paid guy.
But who's who is left? I mean there are guys
like Jordan Love had half of a half of a
(17:55):
season the Packers been Trevor Lawrence has had about nine
good games in his career. Jacksonville paid him. It's wild.
It is insane, the amount of money they're thrown around
the NFL. It's crazy. All right, you're back working at night, Mitchell.
Speaker 7 (18:13):
Yeah, Well my hours are shorter now and till about
three in the morning.
Speaker 1 (18:19):
All right, Well we're here when you're away.
Speaker 7 (18:21):
Yeah, all right.
Speaker 1 (18:23):
We need you to play more game shows. You're one
of the great game show contestants. Mitchell. Yeah, all right,
I'm gonna go, but thank you. No, it's not outrageous, right.
The advertising rates go up because the networks have to pay.
It's a trickle down situation, right, The networks have to
pay the NFL. The NFL always demands more money. It's
the only thing left. I would argue though. My point,
(18:45):
I think I did a monologue in this a while
back that what really is killing things is the fact
that everyone went to streaming like Peacock and the other
streaming networks, and so nobody watches anything live on television
anymore other than football. It's appointment viewing on Sunday and
Monday and Thursday. And so as a result, the NFL
(19:08):
can charge outrageous rates, and so then at that point
it trickles down because they're the only thing left that
people consistently watch in huge numbers, and so then they
charge more, and then yeah, it does. It's actually not
it's not crazy. I was hoping it would be crazy.
It's not that grazy. Let's go to sir scratch Off
(19:31):
and see if he's paying attention. He did not pay
attention yesterday. He is in Arkansas. Hello, sir scratch Off.
Speaker 9 (19:37):
Oh you mean you're gonna have time probably now mine.
I want to play that game. I mean I've been
here twenty two years August and fourteenth. Man, listen to.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
You every trenth Oh my, it's a sob story. It's
a it's a it's a it's a Greek tragedy. Let
me get out the world's smallest violin right now and
play it for you.
Speaker 9 (19:55):
Come on, you too, buddy. Yeah, we didn't matter, man,
Let's get.
Speaker 10 (20:03):
It.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
Is the name of the show. It is in the
it's the name of the show. I mean, you're listening
to the Ben Mathers Show. Like, what do you think
you're listening to?
Speaker 9 (20:12):
You know what I said, I said, you get rid
of me the other night, hung up on me to
listener going around the Moon with Andrea.
Speaker 1 (20:18):
Man what she hasn't been on in the car. I
know you're jealous that she gets more attention than you.
All you boys are jealous. He's a star, and you're
jealous of.
Speaker 9 (20:26):
That tast something. Right now, buddy, I'll be all good.
I'm gonna tell you that I'll keep listening to your
little show being Mallard and Bennie versus a penny because
you don't want to take something right now. The Rams
had three touchdowns they give away the other day of
the night, I know, and I want to do is
walk through my big seventy five screen TV and start
punching the head because they had one yard.
Speaker 1 (20:49):
I know that that killed me. That game killed me
on the TV show because the Rams came back and
all you know, they they were right there and I thought,
at least I'll get a push out of it, and
they end up losing. They gave up the touchdown. They
couldn't stop anybody in overtime.
Speaker 9 (21:03):
Yeah, and I mean I couldn't. You know what you
said that you watch it, You're like, what's the wrong guy?
Speaker 3 (21:08):
Man?
Speaker 9 (21:08):
You've got all this freaking money in your pocket. You
know there's people going homeless.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
Yeah, I'm sure that, I'm sure. I'm sure. The RAM
defense the RAM defense. While the while the Lions were
shoving the ball down their throat, they were thinking, there
are some people homeless right now. I think maybe we
should tackle. That's exactly what they were thinking.
Speaker 9 (21:26):
Being I mean, we went to a lot of weight lost. Man,
we can't eat no food. Could you endure a game?
Could we want to diet?
Speaker 3 (21:33):
Man?
Speaker 7 (21:33):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 9 (21:34):
But I won't get you.
Speaker 1 (21:35):
You want to? Are you wanna die? You're not eating
the crazy the foods you used to eat before? You're
gonna diet?
Speaker 9 (21:41):
Beyant. I went down to one subway a night of
bot and I drink a lot of water. Y'all go
to a forty pack from wall marks, like five or
thirty just every three days. I drink a lot of water.
Speaker 1 (21:53):
All right. Well, just to point out though the air
the rams, just to put the ball on the rams,
they outplayed the Lions. They didn't win the game, but
they outplayed They won the statue, but they didn't win
the game. They had more first downs, more yards. Uh,
I think they were better. They were close on on
third down. I mean, I don't have the I don't
have the numbers in front of me. But they won
the statue. They just happened.
Speaker 9 (22:14):
Noticed every time every time we gonna get whoever old quarterbacks,
they beat us. I'm like, where would you at when
you played for us? You know what I mean? We
had to get water.
Speaker 1 (22:26):
I didn't. I didn't think Jared Goff was that good.
Do you think he was? You know what beat them
was Montgomery. Montgomery running the ball in overtime. That's what
beat them, Not not Jared Golf.
Speaker 9 (22:40):
They just ran the wrong We shouldn't use your poenie
band because when they used the flip of the coin
and we lost it, I knew it was gonna lose
it because we didn't touch the ball.
Speaker 1 (22:49):
The ram the rams along. I don't think think they
attempted one pass in overtime. It was David Montgomery right,
David Montgomery left, uh right? I think there was one
pass on that drive. The attempt. Everything else was a run.
Speaker 9 (23:09):
I did do it, man. You know my PC balls too,
and all my a State red Wolves beat tosses and
we weren't to win that game. We're two and all there.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
I mean, all right, thank you. I mean I think
we've reached our quota on that, we've reached our our quest.
Let's go to Marcel in Brooklyn. Hello, Marcel, Good.
Speaker 3 (23:30):
Morning, Ben and new day. It is Wednesday.
Speaker 1 (23:35):
It is now Marcel. Can you can you do the
toss to Eddie right now? So we're on time? Can
you toss to Eddie?
Speaker 9 (23:41):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (23:41):
Yes it is.
Speaker 10 (23:42):
And I got some TV picks as well to coming
up as well. Robin Vegas and Michigan will want to
play long. Here's Eddie with all the sports you need
to know overnight while you are slept, and starting with
the NFL. There, Guarcio take.
Speaker 6 (23:56):
It away, all right, thank you, Marcel Myra, Yes, myrak,
I blanked on the last mister Myrek appreciate that.
Speaker 4 (24:04):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Ben Meler
Show weekdays at two am Eastern eleven pm Pacific.
Speaker 11 (24:10):
So should I throw it back to Marcel now or
are we doing this? We got a fun fact.
Speaker 1 (24:15):
I do have a fun Marcel. Do you want me
to do the fun fact here? Marcel, wait a second
before we get to the fun fact money.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
One hundred and fourteen losses for the Chicago White Sox.
Speaker 6 (24:27):
One hundred and thirteen, but tomorrow it will be one
hundred and fourteen I'm sure.
Speaker 3 (24:30):
Yeah, one hundred and thirteen losses for the Southsiders. What
is going on? Oh my gosh, one hundred and thirteen losses.
Speaker 11 (24:39):
It's a lot of losses, Marcel.
Speaker 1 (24:41):
He just figured, he just learned the White socks are bad.
This is amazing. It's it's September.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
There aren't terrible Ben, what socks are terrible. Let's get
to the fun fact on how what Chicago what socks
definitely loses so badly? But first for you talk to
you Ben?
Speaker 1 (25:03):
Well? Yeah, well, I mean you really nailed that tremendous,
tremendous job by you.
Speaker 3 (25:10):
Oh yes, the sorry about Monday for the player of
the week as well.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
All right, stop, it's my time please. The show is
sponsored by DraftKings. Stay tuned because you'll hear more about
DraftKings and all it has to offer throughout the show. DraftKings.
The Crown is yours. Fun fact.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
Fun fact, fun fact, fun fact?
Speaker 1 (25:28):
Fun fact? All right, fun fact here. When Kumar Rocker
makes his big league debut that's gonna happen tomorrow on Thursday,
he will become the first player of Indian descent in
Major League Baseball history. This was the guy that was
drafted by the Mets.
Speaker 8 (25:47):
Why aren't they talking about this guy years ago?
Speaker 1 (25:49):
Yes, yes he had he had got hurt, he got hurt,
and uh, but he's gonna make his big league debut
for the Texas Rangers on Thursday and he will become
the first big league player of Indian descent. So you're
into that kind of thing. Uh, to check that out
on Thursday, little MLB, Yes, Friday, even so they go.
And also I didn't want to. I didn't want to
(26:10):
want to just go with it, just go with it.
Speaker 9 (26:13):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
I did want to mention, you know, today is kind
of a big day. It's September eleventh. And so I
saw this stat. I think we gave it on the air,
like percentage of young Americans that were not even alive
or not old enough to know what like happened on
September eleventh. It's it's been so long now it's a
pretty big number. Like the numbers, every year, it goes
(26:37):
up more and more. I know, my niece just graduated.
I was in South Carolina because my niece graduated from
from college and she was in the womb during nine
to eleven. She's out of college now, living her life
and all that. So it's it's crazy, but just met
a couple of minutes. It was a terrible obviously a
terrible thing, but just just remember, you know what what
happened in the world changed. I mean, it's it's been
(26:57):
much different post posting that eleven. Any time you go
to an airport, you're you're dealing with what happened as
a as fallout from that. Anyway, Marcel, you didn't How
old were you you were? You're not that old, Marcel.
You were probably ten years old or something like that.
How old?
Speaker 9 (27:12):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (27:12):
Yeah, nine eleven, two thousand and one, it's been twenty
