the giant locker room by letting players find out about
(00:24):
the quarterback change on social media? And some people are
ringing their hands with Lions quarterback Jared Goff because he
doesn't get enough love. Is he underappreciated? We'll talk about
that as well. It's coming your way right now. Buckle
up for our number two, a giant statement, if you

Now and a way we go. Interesting story here out
of Gotham and follow up to the follow up, follow
up to the follow up.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
Russell Wilson mode it better.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
Story is in the losing locker room, and that is
where Russ is hanging out these days, the losing locker room.
Even when he plays, he's in the losing locker room.
So Russell Wilson informing the assembled media that he will
not will not be requesting a trade or to be
released by the Giants this season. There had been some
(03:02):
speculation about that. He also wants you to know that
he has not done. Let's go to cut two on that.
Here's a Russ pointing out he has not done.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
I'm not done.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
I got so much belief in myself and no what
I'm capable of. I believe I was.
Speaker 5 (03:14):
Able to show, especially you know on the road in
Dallas and everything else.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
She played the Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
I think I would have had three touchdowns in that game.
All right, So let us discuss the key part of
this is Russ telling reporters that he won't be requesting
a trade or to be released by the Giants. So
the question should the Giants now back up quarterback Russell
Wilson be applauded for not demanding out of the Giants'
(03:42):
locker room. So I've seen some glowing stories saying well Russ,
even in defeat, Russell's doing the right thing.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
So my observations on this.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
I've got the Ford Modeling Agency, overhead projector, and direct
deposit and we will combine all of these things together
and we are going to make some delicious French onion soup.
Is what we're going to do. You're Babushka's favorite French
onion soup. So number wh Now, the answer to the
(04:14):
question should Giants backup quarterback Russell Wilson be applauded for
not demanding out?
Speaker 1 (04:18):
The answer is no. But I have to do a
talk show, so I can't just say no.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
I have to expand on that. Here's why I say no.
I can say absolutely not. That's two words. I said no,
and then I said absolutely not. Now up to three words.
But you don't commend someone for not quitting when the
truth is, and it's an ugly truth.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
Nobody wants him.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
See, it's not a situation where he's doing this because
he's loyalty. He's loyal It's not about loyalty for Russell Wilson.
It's about reality. There's a difference there. Russ is not
making some kind of noble stand here. He is a
floppy disc. He's dated tech, he's washed up. He's a
(04:58):
relic of a different era. He had his time in
the sun. Congratulations. But this is like we all know
somebody that still has a VCR, right, And it's like
that person that has the VCR in their living room
and they're bragging it's a conversation piece. Now it's like, well,
what do you have that? What's a VCR? I know
what it is, bo I'd have it. Well, you know,
it's a throwback to the old days and all that.
And I just haven't decided I had that streaming thing.
(05:19):
I don't like the streaming thing. I haven't switched to
streaming yet. Well I know, but you should do that.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
It's better. No, No, I like the VCR.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
So the way he's played, he's lucky that the Giants
are even paying him to pretend that he's a quarterback,
like as a backup. He's not a backup. I don't
think you can call him back. He's like working at
the Ford modeling agency as a clipboard model when he's
wandering around, mister unlimited.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
And if Russell Wilson had any value, and.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
I guarantee I'm never wrong about these things, If Russell
Wilson had any value on the market, he would go
to market. If there was one GM who was stupid
to say, I need that guy, I need that's my guy,
I need Russell Wilson, then I guarantee you that his
(06:10):
agent would be tooting away there on the phone right now,
demanding the Giants release and or trade him, and all
that through back channels. But the fact that he's not
tells you everything you need to know about the value
of Russell. This is what we knew anyway privately, even
with that decree by Russ. Privately, you know his people
(06:31):
are working the text machine trying to drum up some interest.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
Out of thin air.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
And what about Russ, how would you like to play
for the Bengals or whoever?
Speaker 1 (06:43):
And the tape does not lie, and what's on the tape?
All right? So if it was a movie, it would
be a horror show, is what it would be. It's jumps, jumps.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Right off the video there, right off the computer laptop
bad ending and the whole thing ghosts and goblins. So again,
this is not something you commend Russell Wilson for because
you just acknowledged the obvious that Russell Wilson's career, while
he had some great moments in Seattle, is on life support.
(07:16):
He's been on life support through three teams, now Denver,
Pittsburgh and now the Giants, and he's hanging around because
the Giants are the only ones still footing the bill,
although not very much because most of Russ's money was
based on the incentives, which you're not going to cash
in because you're not playing now. Brian day Ball commented
(07:39):
the road Ton coach of the Giants, who will be
an offensive coordinator somewhere.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
Next year, but not with the Giants.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
But here's Brian day Ball, who gave his first comments
on the decision to say bye bye to Russ as
a starter taking lists.
Speaker 5 (07:55):
I met both with Russ yesterday and Jackson privately, and
Russell was nothing but a pro, which how expect them
to be. It's my decision. We're going with Jackson. We're
gonna get him ready to play this week and the
remainder of the season. He's gonna do everything he can.
Russe will be the backup. It's my decision, and we're
going with Jackson, all right.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
So the key part of that he kept saying, it's
my decision. It's my decision. It's my decision. Mid yeah, okay,
which is it? Tell It tells you that that was
one of the talking points that he wanted.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
To get in.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
He kept repeating it, like you go into these things
and you have a couple of points you want to make,
and so.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
You keep going back to those points.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
Now, there's another part of this where Brian day Ball
did not even tell the locker room.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
Right, people are up in arms.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
I saw some things being passed around, people like, oh,
I can't believe this. I can't believe it that he
decided to bench the quarterback for the Giants, Russell Wilson.
He went this rookie Jackson Dart and the players found
out on social media.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
O MG, oh my god.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Says and so and of course people are clutching pearls
saying it's not right, it's not fair.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
All right.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
So question, did Brian Dayball disrespect the Giant locker room?
Did he break the korum by not informing the players at.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
They were making a change and letting them.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
Find out on social media about the quarterback change. So
my response on this is, police, what are we doing here.
It's not nineteen eighty five, it's twenty twenty five.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
You don't send a telegram, you don't send a carrier pigeon,
you don't send the Pony Express. You don't post it
on a bulletin board next to the coffee machine. There's
a laundry schedule there in the break room. It's Twitter,
it's Instagram, it's TikTok.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
Probably not Facebook, these guys are too young.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
But that's the megaphone, right, that's the megaphone. That's the
way it works. And this isn't Bill Parcells calling a
team meeting and he's got the overhead projector and he
puts a thing on the projectors and that's how they
find out. I know, guys find out the news the
way the rest of the world does. They scroll, they swipe, boom,
goes to dynamite, done, and listen.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
It's part of the times we're in, right.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
People are chronically, whether you're an NFL player just a
regular smoll, you're chronically addicted to the online world and
they're just refreshing their feeds and before practice. If you
played for Cliff Kingsbury back in the day, during practice,
probably in the huddle, the whole thing, and you think
Brian daball owes each player like a personal courtesy call,
(10:44):
you know, like there's an emergency and you send an
emergency text out to.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
Everyone and say, well, here's what you need to do.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
Foolish and let's not act like this is some massive scandal.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Again, it's a lot of pearl clutching, a lot of that.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
Even coaches them have been finding out that they've been
fired via social media. The last coaching cycle where they
changed coach at Robert Sala, coach of the Jets, found
out on social media. Gerrod Mayo, the Patriots coach who
used to be the Patriots coach, he found out on
(11:19):
social media. And Matt Eberflus, the terrible Chicago Bears coach,
also found out.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
They all got canned.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
Yes, they saw confirmation on social media before the team
officially told them they were fired.
Speaker 1 (11:30):
But that is the world that we live in. Man.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
Years ago, I got whacked by this company and I
found out before they told me, and I found out
from the new York Post who sent out a story
about it. And so that's how I found out.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
And am I still?
Speaker 2 (11:44):
Am I bitter? I wasn't even better At the time.
I was like, all, well that sucks. I'll go get
another job.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
I'm out and I six months in twenty six days
and that was that was away, and that was it.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
But social media.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
Is the fire alarm, and if you want news first,
that's where it often breaks. And complaining about it it's
like being mad at your local gas station because they
don't have a payphone anymore and you wanted to use
a payphone. Well, they don't need a payphone, they don't
have it. Get over it, Get over yourself. This idea
that players need to be coddled and sat down and
walked through, it's just nonsense. It's nonsense. They're not children.
(12:20):
They're supposed to be pros. They act like children a lot,
but they're supposed to be pros. And Brian dave Ball
doesn't owe the room some kind of group therapy session
where they sit around the campfire, roast marshmallows and sing Kumbaya.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
You want the news first, you go.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
We win some games, be indispensable and maybe if you're
one of those headline players, you'll get a courtesy tap
on the shoulder. Otherwise you get the same treatment everyone else,
the rank and file, get the hoypool ow. You get
the same treatment, just like if you were nicking Nebraska,
right a push alert on your phone. The outrage, it's
faux outrage is what it is. Social media is the
(12:57):
scoreboard of communication is jumbo tron right there. If you
don't like it, you can always take the blue pill.
You can always take the blue pill, delete the app.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
The story ends.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
You wake up in your bed, believe whatever you want
to believe because you don't have access to it, so
you don't know, and you don't know what you don't know.
But good luck doing that. And these guys would rather
have I'm convinced they would rather give up oxygen the
modern athlete than Instagram.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
They would they would all.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
Right, final point to motown we go And a question.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
A question. Some people are basically up in arms, you know,
wringing their hands.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
They're wringing their hands here that Lions quarterback Jared Goff
does not get enough love.
Speaker 1 (13:48):
He just needs more love. He's underappreciated.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
So I asked the question is Lions quarterback Jared Goff
underappreciated after Detroit ended up stopping the Raven's back on
Monday night. So the answer to this is an overreaction.
This is an overreaction. In fact, if you look at
my malor of scorecard, which is never wrong, never wrong
(14:11):
about these quarterbacks, never wrong about these quarterbacks. So if
you look at it right there, if you look at
my scorecard, we put a graphic up, but it's radio
so you can't see it, and we don't have graphics
on the YouTube feed for this channel, so you're pretty
much stuck. But he's exactly where he needs to be.
Jared Goff is exactly where he needs to be. He
is not in the top percentile, he's not in the
(14:34):
bottom percentile. He's right in the middle. He's in the
middle of the pack. He's your standard dome quarterback. You
give Jared Goff perfect conditions, clean pocket, he will carve
you up. He will carve you up like your prime rib. However,
the second there's any kind of adversity, cold weather defensive
(14:55):
pressure gets right in his face. Forget about it, forget
about it. He turns into all pumpkin. Pumpkin and Jared
Goff is he's not some plucky underdog. That's the other thing, Like,
it's very bizarre. We've had a couple of quarterbacks who
were number one picks in the draft who have really
(15:16):
leaned in, really leaned in to the fact that they're
the the underdog, right, they really lean to that. Baker
Mayfield in Tampa. But Jared Goff also, I guess the
number one broke the button broke on that.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
But there is a little delayed.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
But these guys were the top pick in the draft.
And that's the thing. Like Jared Goff, if you were
the number one overall pick in the draft he was
in twenty sixteen, you can't say, well, I was underappreciated
and all that. No, no, that that's not possible. He
was spoon fed in la by Sean mcvagh and then
(15:51):
spoon fed in Detroit by Ben Johnson. And you put
training wheels on Jared Goff and he can ride the bike.
He can ride the bike. You take them off and
he's wobbling all over the place. And let's not act
like the league doesn't appreciate him. What is the what
is the way that you are shown appreciation.
Speaker 1 (16:11):
In that business. If you you want to cue.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Up the old respect song from Aretha Franklin back in
the day, riespect direct deposit. Direct deposit is a direct
indicator that you are somewhat of value.
Speaker 1 (16:27):
Jared Goff is currently on a one hundred and thirty four.
Speaker 2 (16:30):
Million dollar extension. Where I come from, that means he
is appreciated. And by the time he's done with this
current contract, he will have cash checks just on the
field earnings for four hundred million in career earnings. For
Jared Goff, that is appreciation with a capital A is
(16:51):
what that is. And the the money is the love letter.
That's the love letter. And fans some don't. I mean
most people in the Troy pretty headed, but there's some
fans in Detroit that may throw roses at him.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
Right, the league.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
Doesn't get it right, I would argue the league does.
They've got this one right. They view him correctly. He's good,
not great. He's the middle of the road quarterback. You
can win with the middle of the road quarterback. Rams
got to a Super Bowl with Jerdy Golf and if
everything goes right in the Super Bowl, you can win.
But he's not gonna make players around him better right
and honestly, listen, that is not bad for a guy
everyone thought was absolutely finished. They thought he would never
(17:27):
start when he played for Jeff Fisher, meaning that he
was so bad it's like horrible.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
And then with McVeigh, McVeigh was fed up.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
With him and shipped him out like an old couch
when you're moving out of college.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
And you don't need your soulf anymore and just getting
rid of it anyway.
Speaker 2 (17:41):

At eight seven seven, six, three six nine did get
an email from Fried Daddy, who's listening live in Pennsylvania,
and he said, hey, he says, Ben, four four hundred
million is not a love letter. That is an all
night orgy for Jared Goff. All right, well, very nice there,
(21:19):
fried Daddy. Let's go to the phones cashing. Hey, golden ticket,
we say hello to weed May hippie.
Speaker 7 (21:33):
I want to play that every week.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
Well, you gotta let other people play too. You can't
play every week, weed man. You gotta let other people play.
You're being rather selfish there, we man. And look at
the look at the joy that you have in your voice,
that you have a golden ticket.
Speaker 1 (21:47):
That's so I'm sorry, yeah, exactly, all right? So what
is on your agenda? You must have an agenda, Weed Man?
You called up here? What's that? What's new with you? Oh?
Speaker 7 (21:56):
So, first of all, I want to start miss irrigation,
so beautiful.
Speaker 2 (22:01):
Ben, Oh good good? He had he had reached out
to me and wanted your information. As you know, weed Man,
you're not on social media anymore because you lost all
your passwords, so it's very hard to get a hold
of you. And you've changed your number because last year
you kept getting arrested or was it this year you
kept getting know it was.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
It last year or this year? Last year?
Speaker 2 (22:22):
Okay, so last year you're good now? Yeah, yeah, so
you were getting arrested. We're trying to find you, and
every time you got arrested, your phone got reset and
all that. So it was a big big to do
and so but now you're back. Yeah, and you have
fans Jonathan and Delaware. By the way, big fan of
weed Man. He enjoyed hearing you on too much and enough,
(22:44):
too much or not enough. He sent me a nice,
nice message about how much he enjoyed the weed Man
on the show.
Speaker 1 (22:49):
So you have a fan in Delaware.
Speaker 2 (22:51):
Have you ever been to Delaware?
Speaker 1 (22:52):
Weed Man?
Speaker 2 (22:53):
No, what's your No? Jonathan is his name, but he's
in Delaware. Do you know where Delaware is?
Speaker 4 (23:00):
Sure?
Speaker 1 (23:01):
Yeah, you haven't been.
Speaker 2 (23:03):
There though, because you're you're, like, you know, typical New
York or you don't leave you know, you probably go
out to you probably went back to Long Island when.
Speaker 1 (23:08):
You went out to the beach or anything right back
in the day.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
Yeah, yeah, no, mister irrigation did a good job. You're
not going to lose that one, right and you lost
the last one.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
You don't very good, no doubt.
Speaker 8 (23:21):
Okay, Hey Ben, what's up with with with uh?
Speaker 4 (23:26):
With Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Speaker 8 (23:28):
Let's go along with them.
Speaker 1 (23:31):
Clunky on offense right now?
Speaker 2 (23:32):
They're not they're not explosive. They weren't explosive last year
and they got.
Speaker 1 (23:35):
To the Super Bowl. They've got some issues there.
Speaker 8 (23:38):
I can't believe they lost two games.
Speaker 7 (23:39):
They weren't two How is that possible?
Speaker 2 (23:42):
Well, they're not perfect, right, They're they're they're issues there.
They they lost to the Chargers. They didn't play well
in that game in Brazil. How much football are you watching?
By the way, we man, are you watching these games?
Speaker 7 (23:54):
Are you not much?
Speaker 2 (23:55):
I haven't seen it yet.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
Now what do you do on Sunday? It used to
be a big football back in the day.
Speaker 7 (24:02):
I am I don't have a working TV right.
Speaker 1 (24:04):
Now, I know, but you can watch. Most people watch
on their phones now.
Speaker 2 (24:07):
Anyway, right, you can watch how do I yeah, I
thought you watched anywhere. I thought you watched most of
that on your on those Russian websites or whatever you
use there.
Speaker 1 (24:18):
I thought that's what you were doing.
Speaker 7 (24:20):
I used to have a website, I know, I used
to it.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
Yeah, you don't have it anymore. It's gone now.
Speaker 2 (24:25):
Oh you don't go there anymore, all right, I got you. Well,
if they if the Chiefs beat the Ravens, they're back
on track. They lost to the Chargers in Week one,
that was a close game, and they lost a close
game to the Eagles. The problem is they're not is
explosive like the Ravens have the worst defense in the NFL.
You'd think the Chiefs will be able to put up
some points there because the Ravens aren't stopping anybody. And
(24:45):
the only reason they beat Cleveland the way they did
is because Cleveland's quarterback Joe Flacco kept turning the ball
over in that game, and so the Ravens were able
to put up forty one points. Yeah, I know he's
isn't that amazing he's still playing there. But here's the point.
I was gonna make a great point. The Browns with
(25:06):
Joe Flacco had more first downs and more yards than
the Ravens in that game. But they the turnovers are
the great as you know, you taught me that weed Man,
the great equalizer, the turnovers, the turnovers. Browns lost the fumble,
there was, it was an interception, there was some special
teams mistakes and so it all added up anyway. All right, well,
(25:27):
tomorrow's lame jokes. This is the week of weed Man.
How exciting is that weed many?
Speaker 7 (25:32):
I love it?
Speaker 1 (25:33):
All right, all right, go, I'm gonna hang up on you.
Thank you weed Man.
Speaker 2 (25:39):
There he goes ferg Dog says, I am that person
Ben who still has a VCR and I don't appreciate
being made.
Speaker 1 (25:46):
Fun of in a Mallard monologue.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
For Dog goes on to say, yeah, it's annoying having
to rewind tapes after every watch, and the picture quality
isn't as good. But on the plus side, it's a
great conversation piece. But for Dog, you're like me, Man,
you're an introvert. You don't have people over your house
for a dog, right, You don't want to have You
don't want to have awkward conversations and things like that.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
You don't want any part of that at all. I
do remember, though, you'd go.
Speaker 2 (26:13):
To back in the old days, there was this thing
called Blockbuster Video that was really big, really popular, and
they only had a certain number of the top movies,
and you kind of had to know somebody because they
were always gone right away, right You had to know
somebody maybe that worked there, or maybe a friend of
a friend that knew someone that was there, and you
kind of get access to it, and then you were
(26:36):
other than that, you were kind of screwed. Yeah, Tom
from Fullerton says, what a horrible fate that Russ might
only make one point five million a year as a backup.
He could play for another ten years if he transitioned
into a humble backup quarterback like Tyrod Taylor. Two point oh,
says Tom from Fullerton. Well, not another ten years. Russ
could get another five years. I can see him as
(26:59):
another five year guy. Barbecuing Lenn from the Great Pacific
Northwest Wright's in where Bigfoot roams around the forest, He says, Ben,
if the Giants released Russ, will he still show up
to Giants headquarters saying he isn't done? Yes, yes, mister irrigation,
that's exactly what he's going to do. He's going to
show up there and that's how that's going to go.
(27:19):
All right, let's go back to the phones.
Speaker 1 (27:21):
Let's say hello to see who do we have any
meany miny mole.
Speaker 2 (27:24):
Let's say hello to Andrew in Bakersfield. Hello Andrew, welcome, Hello.
Speaker 7 (27:32):
Ben, thanks for taking the call. I was just wondering,
were you just licking your chops when you heard Kershaw
was going to come in the bottom of the ninth
hoping for a disaster?
Speaker 1 (27:44):
Come on, no, I'm not. I like to see the
Dodgers win. Yeah, that's I'm happy when they went.
Speaker 2 (27:52):
Did they dig up the mound in Arizona because that
was his last I guess they have a game today,
so it wasn't his last game.
Speaker 1 (27:57):
Maybe they'll dig up the mound for him. Two, we
can put that next to the Dodger mound.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
How about this, Maybe they can Maybe they can take
the pool out in the outfield and give that to
Kershaw so he can have the pool because they celebrated
when they made the playoffs a couple years.
Speaker 1 (28:09):
Ago in the pool years ago.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
So yeah, I think every ballpark Kershaw goes to, they
should give him a piece of the ballpark like Seattle.
They can give him the foul pole, you know, put
that in his backyard.
Speaker 1 (28:20):
Be nice.
Speaker 7 (28:21):
Okay, So I have a little bit of constructive criticism
for the Dodgers. I think they have some gumptions that
they need to tap into and stop coasting and start
bunting the ball and stealing and be stingy at the plate.
Speaker 1 (28:41):
What do you think?
Speaker 2 (28:43):
So you think, Andrew, after playing the balance of the
one hundred and sixty two game regular season, the Dodgers
are now going to change the way they play baseball
with four games to go in the season.
Speaker 1 (28:55):
Is that what you believe?
Speaker 7 (28:57):
Well, they've been kind of pacing themselves, I think, which
is they've.
Speaker 2 (29:01):
Been They've been pacing themselves. Why is that sort for
fifteen years they've been pacing themselves.
Speaker 4 (29:07):
Well, when you're.
Speaker 7 (29:09):
When you're the champions, you've got to save some energy
to get all the way back.
Speaker 1 (29:14):
But I just wanted to why they played.
Speaker 2 (29:18):
It's a three hour game. They stand around most of
the time picking their nose, Like, how.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
Hard is that?
Speaker 7 (29:24):
Well, months he got injured, Will Smith got injured.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
Yeah, I understand they got injured, but it's not the
most physically demanding sport. Most of the time you're standing around,
so a lot of nothing.
Speaker 7 (29:37):
When they bring in reliever pitcher, how many batters does
they have to face? Three?
Speaker 1 (29:44):
Yes, they changed that a couple of years ago. It's
the minimum because they kept too many pitching changes.
Speaker 2 (29:48):
That's partially because of the Dodgers, because they kept making
pitching changes.
Speaker 7 (29:52):
So okay, Well, when Vessia was his when he got
first batter, I was like, Dave, take him out and
the Well, the.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
Other thing they could do is they could fake an
injury and then you can take the picture out. You
can pretend that the person's hurt, and then you can
take him out. All right, Andrew, I gotta go, Thank you,
go away. There's Andrew in Bakersfield. It is the Ben
Mahlor Show. As we are working our way through the
overnight on X at Ben Mahller. So, Dion Sanders recently
(30:21):
popped up here. Dion was on some podcast with a
couple of these guys that play well, one's a former
player and the other ones.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
I guess gonna marry some musician.
Speaker 7 (30:32):
You don't say.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
I don't know what the name of that thing is.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
Anyway, Dion revealed something unexpected about his name. It turns
out that Dion Sanders' name, which has been spelled d
e i O n, is not the name his parents
gave him. Say what, uh, Yeah, it turns out that
(30:56):
if you were to get a hold of Deon Sanders
birth certificate, it turns out his name is actually spelled
d I O N. That's how his name is supposed
to be spelled. And when he said, well, why is
there and e in there? That don't make a lot
of sense. And then Dion then explained as a child
(31:19):
he liked Old McDonald had a farm e I E
I All.
Speaker 1 (31:25):
Yeah, so he just.
Speaker 2 (31:26):
Decided to switch the spelling as a kid because he
liked the song, and he's just used it even though
it's not his actual birth name. And so it got
me thinking, there's a lot of people in sports that
don't go by their birth name. For example, Steph Curry,
his real name is Wardell Curry, but no one thinks
(31:48):
anyone named Wardell is kind of cool, so he went
with Steph haul Cogan just passed away. That's a famous
one he did.
Speaker 4 (31:57):
That was not his name.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
He used that as a stage name. His real name
was Terry Uh and then you.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
Get down the Tiger Woods, Eldrick Woods go down. There
were some changed some some guys changed their name just
for essen giggles, like Ron Artest became Meadow World Peace.
Chad Johnson went with Chad Ocho Sinko for a while.
Some people did it for religious reasons, like Cassius Clay
became Mohammad Ali and lou Al Sinder went with Kareem
(32:24):
abdul Jabbar. There was a running back that also changed
his name to Kareem abdul Jabbar and then got sued
by Kareem abdul Jabbar's. It was a bunch of Tito Ortiz.
His that's a nickname. His real name is Jacob Jacob Ortiz,
but he goes by Tito. He's kind of washed up
now at this point.
Speaker 1 (32:42):
But there's a bunch of them that have changed the name.
Matthew Stafford different names. What was that, Matthew Stafford.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
Yeah, his name is John.
Speaker 1 (32:52):
His name is John. Yeah. Okay, there you go.
Speaker 2 (32:54):
Uh, well, there's a lot there's a lot of people
out there that do that. Let's go to the phones again.
Let's say look to JB in Denver, and then we're
gonna have the Insta Trivia, and then we'll have Mallard

stay with her. She's probably beautiful and she's smart and
all of that. If she likes the show.
Speaker 8 (33:36):
Yeh, she loves the man, especially your intro music thanks
to the producer. But dang, the Giants have called the
poison of Russell Wilson. It doesn't matter what that guy
do is or where he goes, like he ruins the team.
Oh and three, I'm actually a Giants fan, believe it
or not, even though I'm from Carolina originally. Uh my
(33:58):
cousin played for the Giants when I was younger, and
we could be more excited about Jackson Dart and I
think it's gonna go do it worst case it is
justin Field.
Speaker 1 (34:11):
Yeah, how how did you end up in? Are you

keep her happy. Anyway.
Speaker 2 (35:08):

Chargers against the Broncos the other day.
Speaker 1 (38:37):
It's smaller. How about that? To the third degree? This
is one big van gets grilled Kobelo.
Speaker 9 (38:47):
Deon Sanders called out the Jaguars on a podcast this week,
saying that they underutilized Travis Hunter. He said that Hunter
needs more reps to be effective, but are they not
using Hunter enough?
Speaker 1 (38:58):
Well, generally, the way we're is you have to show
the wow factor. I have not seen it.
Speaker 2 (39:03):
It's very exciting the idea of Travis Hunter in the NFL,
but if he's going to be a middling defensive back
and nothing really electrifying on offense, it doesn't excite you.
There's nothing eye popping. So if you play well, you're
going to get more opportunities. I disagree, and Dion's gonna
defend his guy.
Speaker 1 (39:20):
I get it. I understand why Dan said it. I
don't agree with them.
Speaker 9 (39:23):
Next, so the Cleveland Guardians have made history with the
largest September deficit overcome to tire or take the lead
in a division or league. The Guardians were eleven games
back and they took the division lead on Tuesday. They
still have it right now.
Speaker 1 (39:35):
Ben.
Speaker 9 (39:35):
Are the Guardians legit contenders?
Speaker 2 (39:37):
Well, they're obviously contenders, Coop. They're going to They're in
the playoffs. They're gonna be in the playoffs. But in
terms of are they a real threat to win everything?
I don't consider them a real threat. But it's been
amazing We're gonna talk about this coming up next hour,
because it's really more about the Tigers than the Guardians.
Speaker 1 (39:51):
But the Guardians are They're a pesky team.
Speaker 2 (39:54):
Those teams do cost some problems, but they're not a
real contender. Next.
Speaker 9 (39:56):
It was supported this week that Anthony Edwards has been
watching tape of Michael Jordan and Phobe Bryant to help
develop his post up game. Ben, do you think Edwards
will finally realize his potential and become the face of
the league.
Speaker 2 (40:06):
Well, Coop, you know I listened to Rush Limbaugh and
Howard Stern tapes. Look at me now, I'm just as
good as them, so clearly. And Paul Harvey, good day,
Come on listen. I like Edwards, I like his Rasthmatazzy,
I'm not buying it. How do we do?
Speaker 1 (40:19):
How do we do? There we go?
Speaker 2 (40:21):
I passed it. I passed I passed
