Speaker 2 (00:25):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Oh what is going on?
Happy week seventeen to you.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Almost in the books, Still have one more game to go,
still have the Rams at the Falcons.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
But man, what a Sunday. We are drama galore. I'll
tell you what.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
I have been, you know, slightly critical of one brock
Purty over the years, and I'm not willing to completely
step off of that take.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
But it's funny.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
I want to a decent bet on brock Perty's in
game passing.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Yardage, and it's just so funny. Man, Like, as soon as.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
I win cash on brock Purty, I'm like, look at
the playmaking ability of this guy. Huh, people are sleeping
on this guy. Look how savvy brock Purty is right here. Listen, man,
he played great. It was crazy too because he started
off throwing a pick six very first play of the game. First,
all right, what's Brock got what's number thirteen got dialed up?
(01:29):
He's got a pick six dialed up? And since that
point he was fantastic. He had a play where he
bought time. They're close to the goal line, right around
the ten yard line, and he's buying time. Looks like
he's gonna scramble at the line of scrimmage is the five.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
Looks like he's gonna run.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
No, he's gonna He stopped at the last second, and
he found Kyle yuscheck the side of the end zone.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Touchdown. It was a It was a brilliant play.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
So listen watching Sunday night football, and for a for
a second here before I get to a thought of
two things can be true at the same time.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
What a game? What a game?
Speaker 3 (02:07):
You know? I think we get so cynical sometimes, and
listen to me as a sports better. I can be
sour someday I just have a bad day and make
bad picks. I gotta talk to Justin Cooper about my
confidence pool. Oh my gosh, it's a bad day. It's
a bad day.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
For years.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Truly, it was really just a one o'clock games, the
early start games, terrible two and five.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
But I won't bore you with that. You don't care.
I get it.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
But the point is sometimes we can get sour. Sometimes
it just turns it. I don't know, there's something in
your life not going well, something with your day not
going well, and it just turns into, oh gosh, these games,
and you just you're like, man, man, man, with everything
that you say. That Sunday night game between the Bears
and Niners, forty nine.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Ers win it, forty two to thirty eight.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
That game was awesome, like an instant classic back and
forth you know fight. It was a heavyweight, fifteen round
prize fight. It was amazing. It was a great stat
that Mike Tarrico shared. This is at the very beginning
of the fourth quarter. This is the stat. This is crazy,
a little piece of NFL history.
Speaker 4 (03:16):
For the first time in a regular season game, we've
been tied at seven, fourteen, twenty one, twenty eight, and
thirty five. Never happened in the regular season once in
the postseason.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
How about that. I like the little ding ding ding.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
We got the NBC chimes in there. We got to
get that right. They gotta be branded. That game is
an opportunity for brand recognition right there. But what a
stat right we're tied at sevens, fourteens, twenty one, twenty eight,
thirty Five's a piece that that was amazing, man. And
then a defensive play. How many times do you see
these NFL games or college games and it's just a shootout.
(03:56):
Both quarterbacks Brock Purdy Caleb Williams, they each throw for
over three hundred yards. Just a shootout, shootout at the
SF Corral. Sorry, that's that's not pre orchestrated corningess. That's
on the fly corniness right there. It's just a shootout,
just dialing them up wide open offense. Defenses can't stop
(04:16):
anything or anybody. And then the last play of the game,
San Francisco puts enough heat on Caleb Williams and they
force a little bit of a short throw incomplete. Forty
nine Ers win and forty nine Ers host. The Seahawks
winner gets the one seed in the NFC. That was
(04:37):
That was just an unbelievable game, man. It was great,
great entertainment, and I was just happy to sit back
and enjoy it, you know. And I think this this
is another thing that I take away from Sunday Night Football. Man,
we'll get to all of this stuff. We'll get to
Josh Allen. I don't know what happened to Josh Allen.
Josh Allen is fantastic. It's got a wide open two
(05:00):
point throw to win the game, and he just he's
missed a wide open guy. We'll get to Josh Allen
in a second. That was unbelievable, just missing a bunny
that was a finger roll and he's like the iceman
George Gervin with finger rolls, and somehow he missed the
finger roll.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
I don't know what happened with Josh Allen there.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
But the other thing I took away from Sunday Night
Football actually ties to Saturday Night football when we saw
Derrick Henry go crazy against the Packers and we also
saw Brock Purdy go crazy against the Bears. I think
two things can be true at the same time, and
(05:42):
a lot of fans, a lot of listeners don't like
the two things can be true at the same time.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Thing.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
The thing that's true in two very conflicting ways with
the Saturday Saturday night game between the Ravens, you know,
beating the Packers, the Niners beating the Bears. Derrick Henry
was unbelievable. Okay, thirty six carries, two hundred and sixteen yards,
(06:12):
four touchdowns. The Ravens had their backup quarterback in there,
Tyler Huntley, threw for just over one hundred yards. He
threw for a bucko seven. Yeah, that's it, one o
seven and uh, you know, the Packers know it's gonna
be Derrick Henry all night.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
They know he's getting the ball.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
They can't stop him, They can't come close to stopping him.
So thoroughly impressed with Derrick Henry, but at the same time,
Packers defense freaking awful.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Man Like, both.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
Things can be true, and I think that when you
hear that, let's say you're a Derrick Henry fan or
you're a Ravens fan, you automatically think someone like me
is taking credit away from your guy or your team.
That's not true. I think two things can be true
at once. Derick Henry sensational performance, Packers brutal performance.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
That's just what it was. And I think the Sunday
night game was the same thing.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
Rock Purty outstanding performance, five total touchdowns he accounted for.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
He's scrambling around.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
He's throwing darts all night, he's buying time, he's picking
up some yards with his legs. Scored a touchdown right
with his legs couple of times. That was a great
performance by him. But at the same time that bears
defense freaking brutal. Both defenses awful, just brutal defense. I
(07:48):
thought Caleb Williams played a great game too. He missed
a couple of very makeable throws. That's the weird thing
with Caleb Williams. By the way, Caleb Williams will make
some insane throw some insane plays where you're like, there
aren't many people on this planet that could make that
throw right there. Mahomes maybe could make that play, Josh Allen,
(08:10):
maybe that's that might be the list, and it's Caleb Williams.
He'll make some sensational plays and then he'll turn around.
You're like, the guy was wide open, man, how did
he miss that throw? Just weird, But overall, Caleb Williams great,
great performance. At the same time that forty nine ers
defense with zero pass rush, yikes, man, you look at
(08:35):
the playoffs, it is just wide open, man, It is
absolutely wide open. But I love the Week eighteen matchup
Niners hosting Sam Darnald and the Seahawks. Have we not
seen this movie before? It was just last year we
saw Sam Darnald Week eighteen on the road against the Lions.
All right, let's go one set on the line, and
(08:56):
Sam Darnold was just like, Damn, I'm just gonna be
horror tonight.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
Oh he was brutal. Does he exorcize the demons? This season?
Speaker 3 (09:06):
Against the Niners team that is banged up defensively, they
have the worst pass rush in football. They have the
least amount of sacks defensively this season, and it's by
a lot. If you look at the numbers, it's pretty crazy.
If you look at coops Broncos, my gosh, Justin Cooper's
Broncos are it's like just lapping the forty nine ers
(09:28):
in terms of sacks defensively. If you just look at
that one category, the Broncos sixty three sacks heading into
Week seventeen. This is heading into Week seventeen, sixty three
sacks for the Broncos, leading the league. The Niners have
eighteen sacks on the season heading into Week seventeen. Right,
(09:48):
I don't know what the numbers are, right now, that's
an obnoxious amount of homework. Melon Militia, Key can only
expect me to do so much over here, right, think
about that eighteen? Okay, on the fly, it's at thirty
six fifty four, Like we're in the neighborhood of three
and a half times the amount of sacks for the
(10:08):
Broncos compared to the Niners. By the way, look at this,
so the Niners dead last in the league in sacks.
If you look at the teams that are tied for
twenty ninth, these three teams are tied, so they're basically
second to last.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
If you will.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
That's the Carolina Panthers, the Bengals, and the Jets. What
do you think of that Jets pass rush?
Speaker 2 (10:33):
Right now? What do you think about that Bengals pass rush?
Speaker 3 (10:35):
They could really put heat on the opposing passer, right, No,
they can't generate a pass rush, Matt. They heading into
Week seventeen, Bengals, Panthers, Jets, all those teams had seven
more sacks than the Niners on the season. That's how
bad the forty nine ers pass rush is. They can't
get heat on the opposing quarterback. So when Week eighteen
(10:59):
rule around and Sam Donald heads into Levi Stadium, and
that Niners pass rush is probably not getting a whole
lot of pressure on him. The Sam Donald actually look
like a competent quarterback with all the chips in the
middle of the table. He might don't be shocked if
he does. I can't wait for that game. That's gonna
be a sensational game. By the way, that is your
(11:22):
nightcap on Saturday. I find this interesting. So the way
it works, they have two Saturday games next week, and
they have all the rest of the games on Sunday
with the Sunday Night Football game. So you have these
three windows for these marquee games. Okay, so in the
(11:43):
very first window on Saturday, they put the the NFC
South matchup. That's the Panthers at Tampa Bay. We will
get to the dead inside Tampa Bay Buccaneers a little
bit later this hour, but they've got Carolina Tampa Bay
for the NFC South. That's the early game on Saturday.
(12:06):
That's your four thirty pm Eastern time kick, right. And
then the night cap on Saturday night is the Seattle
San Francisco game. That's eight pm Eastern time. That's for
the NFC West that's for the one seed in the
NFC playoffs. That is a monstrous game. And then on
(12:28):
Sunday night, Like Sunday Night is the headlining act. Think
of a concert like the Carolina Tampa game. That's the
first warm up band, right and then Seattle San Francisco,
as the TV execs see it, that's the next warm
up band. And then Sunday night football rolls around. This
(12:49):
is the headlining act. This is who we came out
to see, and it's the AFC North Showdown. It's Baltimore
at Pittsburgh. I know it for a divisional crown, but man,
do are you more excited to see Baltimore Pittsburgh. We
don't even know if Lamar is gonna play. We don't
(13:10):
know if this bruise is gonna keep him out until
like mid May. My gosh, the guy has a bruise,
a bruise, he's got a contusion. And he not only
missed the second half of last week against the Patriots,
he missed the entire game against the Packers.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
He's on the sideline standing up.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
If this is like a debilitating injury, why is he
just standing on the sideline? Why why is he not
in uniform out there. I don't know if Lamar is
even gonna suit up and play, And this is the
headlining game. I would much rather see the Seattle San
Francisco game on Sunday night football. Now, it's not a
big deal. It's gonna be on Saturday night. It's fine,
(13:45):
but I think it would make more sense.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
But it's just me.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
I think it would make more sense to make Saturday
this is win and in day. This is for divisions
are on the line. You know, it's a doubleheader on ABC, Slash, ESPN.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
You market it like that.
Speaker 3 (14:03):
Okay, we got NFC South Carolina Tampa winning in followed
by Baltimore at Pittsburgh winning in the loser. Say you
better luck next year, suckers, Right, I'd rather have a
day like that. That's Saturday, it's the winning in day,
and then Sunday this is just for the big boys,
all right, big dogs in the house. Here we're talking
(14:24):
about not only winning the division. We're talking about a
one seed on the line that has much higher stakes.
To me, I'd rather see that on Sunday night. That's
your headlining act right there. In my mind, it's Seattle
San Francisco. It is not Baltimore, Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh who scored
(14:45):
six points against the Browns. That's that's the headlining act. No,
thank you, No, I'd rather see that on Saturday. Give
me the battle for the one seed on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (14:56):
But that's just me. Your thoughts feel free to check in.
Have I counted? It's just just under a million.
Speaker 3 (15:04):
Things to talk about tonight. My gosh, there are so
many things that happen in Week seventeen of the NFL
playoff implications left and right.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
We got to get to Josh Allen.
Speaker 3 (15:15):
Josh Allen had an out of body experience at the
end of the game against the Eagles.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
He had a wide open receiver.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
Josh Allen has turned into one of the more accurate
quarterbacks in the NFL, and he absolutely blew it. There
is one key takeaway from this game from that throw,
and it absolutely applies not only to the Bills, but
the entire NFL playoffs. We also have a team I
(15:46):
will be happy.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
I've already bet it.
Speaker 3 (15:49):
I am so happy to bet against one particular team
that they might make it into the playoffs. They might not,
I'm bet, but we will get to that right around
the corner.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
As well.
Speaker 3 (16:03):

a conversation with you guys. You guys are more than welcome.
If you get in here, I'll get you on also
on X at the No Show if you want to
reach out to me there so we'll keep squawking about
stuff right around the corner. Oh, the major takeaway from
(16:31):
Josh Allen screwing up and not hitting a wide open
receiver that would have beaten the Eagles. What does it
mean for the Bills for the NFL playoffs as a whole.
I'll tell you next. I'm Brian no In for Big

Speaker 3 (17:49):
The late night hours over here. How we'll let the
moon hours right. That's how we're getting down here on
Fox Sports Radio. So yeah, Josh Allen hoof, let me
thy say one thing first, before you know, I start
trashing the guy for a pathetic throw at the end
of the game that lost it for the Bills and
the bigger picture, Josh Allen is an outstanding quarterback. Josh
(18:13):
Allen is the reigning MVP on the short list. This year,
I think it's a Stafford year. I think it's Stafford's
year to win his first MVP. I don't think Stafford's
even been I don't think Stafford's ever gotten a top
ten vote. Don't quote me on that. But there's some
insane stat about Matthew Stafford where it's like he has
he hasn't even gotten a vote something crazy like that,
(18:37):
where not only is he probably in line to win it,
it's like he might finally get voted on for MVP.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
It's crazy.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
But Josh Allen is he's an outstanding quarterback and I
know he's come up short in the playoffs. That's routinely
against Mahomes and the Chiefs, which over the years has been.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
An incredibly high hurdle.
Speaker 3 (19:00):
Clear, it's not like he's wetting his leg against I
don't know, inferior competition when you're running into this roadblock
time and time of game named Mahomes and the Chiefs.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
Okay, I mean you gotta say it's.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
Somewhat understandable, somewhat, but Josh Allen, he is so much
better than what you saw at the end of that
game against the Eagles. So if you missed it, if
you know you didn't watch Wall the wall ball today,
it's fine, we got you here. So the Bills, they
couldn't do anything against Philly. They are scoreless with under
(19:40):
five and a half minutes to play in the game.
They haven't scored a point. They're losing thirteen to nothing.
They score a touchdown, they get a stop, they get
the ball back, they score another touchdown. Now, the funny
thing was they were losing thirteen nothing when they scored
their first touchdown. The Bills had their extra point blocked.
(20:01):
Jalen Carter blocked the extra point, so instead of it
being thirteen to seven Philly, it's thirteen to six Philly
with the lead at that point. So we fast forward
to the end of the game. Josh Allen scores a touchdown.
It's thirteen to twelve Philly. So you look at the sideline,
(20:22):
Sean McDermott stoic. He's like, let's go for two. Let's
freaking go for two. Freaking in this guy, I'm pretty
sure he's throwing freakings around out there, and so they
line up.
Speaker 2 (20:32):
They're going for two.
Speaker 3 (20:33):
Josh Allen has a wide open, wide open Khalil Shakir
in the back of the end zone. Pass isn't even
close to the guy not even close.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
I don't know what happened.
Speaker 3 (20:46):
He just short armed it. It's one of those deals
where I don't know, your guy is just wide open
and you want to run over there and just hand
it to him, and I don't know, you just short
arm it. You just sort of panic and he just
missed a wide open throw. Now here's the thing. You
could look at this and say, yeah, you know, it happens.
(21:09):
It's just one throw. This doesn't mean that dot dot
dot fill in the blank, you know.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
It doesn't mean that they can't win it all. This
doesn't mean they're.
Speaker 3 (21:18):
Not gonna readbount ya da baby Babby. You could fill
it in with a bunch of stuff. You know what
this really means when you cut to the chase and
you get to the heart of the matter. The Bills
don't have the clutch gene.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
They don't have it. They lack it, and it shows
up time and time again.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
It just does like you can't explain it any other way.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
Now.
Speaker 3 (21:48):
I don't want to say that the Bills are incapable.
That that would be that'd be reckless, that'd be a
little silly. I mean, you look at the AFC playoffs,
what team do you love? Who's the team that you love?
There's not one. There's not one team I even like like.
I actually do like the Patriots quite a bit, but
I don't love them. They have their shortcomings, they have
(22:10):
their question marks. They don't have a ton of postseason experience. Right,
there are a lot of reasons to doubt the Patriots.
They've had an incredibly soft schedule, on and on and on.
But I look at their strengths a lot more often
than I hear most people saying, right, Like, a lot
of people look at the schedule. It doesn't just begin
(22:30):
and end there. But that's just me. I like the
Patriots quite a bit. But the point is, there isn't
one team in the entire NFL playoffs that I just love.
I really really like the Rams as well. Don't love them.
Don't love their second theory, hate their path now that
they're probably gonna be on the road for three straight games.
(22:51):
But the deal with the Bills, you can't say no chance,
know how, even though they lack the clutch gene because
of the lack of great teams around them. I hate
their rush defense. It's terrible. It was thirtieth in the
NFL heading into Week seventeen. They did a pretty decent
job on Saquon Barkley on Sunday. But I don't trust
(23:15):
the Bills rush defense at all. And I don't like
their wide receivers. They got a bunch of number two,
number three wide receivers running around out there. It's when
James cook is held in check and it's all right,
Josh Allen, do your thing. I mean, I like their
tight ends. I like Dalton Kinkaid quite a bit. Thasston
Knox's okay, you know, he's fine as a backup tight end.
(23:37):
But they're wide receivers, dude.
Speaker 2 (23:39):
It's just like.
Speaker 3 (23:39):
Who they just picked up, Brandon Cooks. Brandon Cooks was
like their main guy on Sunday against the Eagles. That's
how limited their wide receiver room is. So it might
not come down to a clutch situation.
Speaker 2 (23:54):
It might not. It might not be all right.
Speaker 3 (23:57):
There are five seconds left, we're going for two to
win this game, and he's got a wide open receiver
and he's got to make this throw.
Speaker 2 (24:04):
It might not come down to that.
Speaker 3 (24:07):
Like the Bills, they're good enough where it might not
be this you know, tight sphincter moment right.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
Like we're clutch. This is a big, huge moment.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
You know, high leverage might not come down to that.
So I'm not gonna count them out. Make no mistake,
I'm not counting them out completely.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
But the main.
Speaker 3 (24:28):
Reason I doubt them it's their rush defense sucks. Their
wide receivers are average at best, and they do not
have the clutch gene. They as much as highly as
I think of Josh Allen, he doesn't have the clutch gene.
That team does not have the clutch gen. I don't
(24:48):
know what it is about Buffalo. Think about like some
of these games that they've lost. I know it's Mahomes,
I know it's the Chiefs. They had a lead at
arrow Head with thirteen seconds to play.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
They lost.
Speaker 3 (25:06):
I still can't believe that one. There were thirteen seconds left,
just squib kick that thing like run some time off
the clock, you defend one pass and you win.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
I still can't believe they lost that game.
Speaker 6 (25:23):
You don't think Sean McDermott's the problem.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
I think he's part of the problem.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
But Sean McDermott wasn't the reason that you know, like
Khalil Shakir didn't get the ball in the back of
the end zone, Josh Allen was the reason and.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
Well points overtime.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
Well, I mean you could second guess that, but if
you're watching that play, and first off, I think you
gotta be first guessing in order to be second guessing.
I have a problem at all with them going for two.
I'm like, all right, you're being aggressive, that's fine. And
the way the play unfolds, the Bill's got exactly what
(26:02):
they wanted.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
Like, yeah, it was a terrible pass. It was a
horrible pass.
Speaker 6 (26:07):
And you know, Josh Allen knows that obviously. The shots
on the sideline.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
Shoh yeah, yeah, yeah, sure. But I mean, and.
Speaker 6 (26:14):
I'm not talking about just this game, but my best
friend is a Bill's fan, has has been since since
he was a child, uh huh, and he has been
calling for Sean mcdermot's firing for like a couple of
years and a few years now, right, he's just he's
just had it with him. And I mean, I can't
you know, you can say, yeah, the going for Tudo
(26:37):
to win is fine. Uh, you know, I do think
that and Ben would hate this, oh oh, but I
do think that the Bills had a bit of momentum.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
Oh oh dude.
Speaker 3 (26:50):
You by the way, I want to sidetrack your your
thought here, I'll circle back to it because a big
ben you know, co host slash, you know, a compadre
if you will over the years, don't let me sidetrack.
I'll circle back to it. Go ahead, finish your thought
about momentum and the bill. They had momentum, that's right,
(27:11):
they did, absolutely.
Speaker 6 (27:12):
I just I think that I would have liked their
chances in overtime too. But like you said, you know,
the play worked out exactly how it was supposed to.
Speaker 2 (27:22):
They just missed it.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
They just they missed a layup. Man, there's no way
if they're going for two, they're being aggressive. If they
could see that play open up the way it did,
and then they could be asked like, okay, you still
want to go for two? Are you banking on Josh
Allen making this throw? Or hey, mulligan time you could
just undo it and magically, through the powers of the
(27:45):
football gods, you could just kick the extra point go
to overtime. Which would you rather do? All day long,
they'd be like, oh, our money's on Josh Allen.
Speaker 2 (27:52):
You kidding me right now?
Speaker 6 (27:54):
So as a as a fan, I hate like decisions
like that. Obviously, when it were you're like, oh, great,
that was awesome. But when I'm when I'm watching my
team and they, you know, come back from behind and
they score touchdown to potentially tie the game, and they
decided to go for two, I'm just like a nervous wreck.
(28:15):
I would way rather just breathe and watch some more football.
Speaker 2 (28:19):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (28:20):
Hey man, hey listen. You can second guess this stuff
all day. You could sit here and be like, look,
they're legitimate arguments. It's Philly didn't complete one pass in
the second half, right right. Jalen Hurts was oh for seven,
He was oh for the second half. But I have
no problem with him going for two and it was
(28:41):
wide open. That is strictly a Josh Allen bricked layup
like he didn't even draw iron. He's going in for
a finger roll and somehow he bricked it off the
backboard and it didn't touch net, it didn't touch.
Speaker 2 (28:55):
Rim, it didn't touch anything. He just bricked.
Speaker 3 (28:58):
That's how bad it was. Josh Allen miss and listen,
I get it. And Coop going back to your diehard,
you know your friend who's a diehard Bills fan. I
get how you're not in love with Sean McDermott, but
the truth is, he's the easy fall guy. He really like.
Sean McDermott is not the reason that the rush defense sucks.
(29:19):
Sean McDermott is not the reason that their wide receivers
are just a bunch of guys. That's a Brandon Bean issue.
That's the GM. He's the guy responsible for the roster.
It's not a Sean McDermott issue. That Josh Allen, the
reigning MVP, missed an absolute layup, wide open receiver. The
(29:40):
ball's not even close to him. None of those things
are Sean McDermott's fault. Yet there are a lot of
fans that want to act like it is and listen.
I get if you want to sit here and say, hey,
look man, we've tried it for a number of years,
just hasn't worked. It's time to try something new. That's fine,
that's fine, But to blame Sean McDermott for that loss,
(30:04):
that's that's ridiculous. If anybody's doing that, it's just silly.
That's Josh Allen just blowing it, and I hey, raining
MVP to the side. I think it's even worse. Like
the fan mentality. I know a lot of Bills fans
will think like this. It's like, well, it's Josh Allen, man, Like,
we can't really crack on Josh Allen too hard. He's
(30:27):
the reason why we're good, Like yeah, and he's also
the reason you lost that game. Okay, that's the reality.
It's not a Sean McDermott thing. It was a Josh
Allen thing against the Bills in Week seventeen specifically, that's
what it is. And it makes it even worse because
he's so talented, because he's a raigning MVP, because he's
(30:49):
arguably the best quarterback in the game right now. It
makes it even worse than he missed a wide open
layup like that. You should have high standards and high expectations.
That should be like just that's not anything that's permissible.
That is an impermissible situation from Josh Allen, impermissible performance
(31:11):
from him against the Eagles, specially late Listen, Coop, I
gotta say one thing because my guy Tom Looney, who
I love like a brother, we have traded multiple texts,
multiple voice notes.
Speaker 2 (31:28):
He somehow he got on this thing.
Speaker 3 (31:29):
And he's like, he talked about momentum and he was like, yeah,
this is a big Ben Mallard take, and he's like,
I actually subscribe to it as well. It's like, momentum
is not a thing. I'm like, that's the worst take
of all time?
Speaker 2 (31:41):
Are you kidding me? That's what you think? Listen, man,
And I.
Speaker 3 (31:45):
Won't bore you with the whole argument, like this is
what I think about momentum. Just watch the game between
the Rams and the Seahawks last week and you tell
me that momentum is not a thing, right, Like, the
Seahawks are down thirty to fourteen. They're not even sniffing
(32:07):
the lead, they're not even sniffing a win.
Speaker 2 (32:09):
At the time.
Speaker 3 (32:11):
Sam Darnold has just thrown two hideous interceptions, and what happens.
They get a punt return for a touchdown, They get
the two, They get another touchdown, They get a ridiculous
two point conversion that was a complete you know, just fluke.
It hits a Rams helmet, bounces into the end zone.
They pick it up, they get the two point conversion,
(32:32):
goes to overtime, They give them a touchdown, they score
a touchdown, They go for two and win it. You
tell me momentum is not a thing. The way I
look at momentum is the way I look at a
run or a lead. Okay, you typically talk about runs
in basketball. It can still happen in football. You go
on a you know, a twenty one nothing run. Alabama
(32:55):
against Oklahoma. They're down seventeen to nothing and whatever the
run was, went on a twenty four to nothing run
or something like that. You know in basketball, Oh, they're
on a seventeen to one run or whatever it happens
to be. That's what momentum is. But these these jokers
Looney and Big Ben, who I love, but it's a
terrible take. They act like, once you lose momentum, it
(33:20):
means that momentum never existed in the first place. That's crazy.
That's like saying a run never existed. Because okay, we're
watching a basketball game. My team goes on a fourteen
nothing run. Your team goes on a thirteen to one run.
Does that mean that my original run never happened?
Speaker 2 (33:41):
Right? Like a lead?
Speaker 3 (33:43):
Okay, today, the Eagles had the lead, they had the momentum.
They're up thirteen to nothing, and what happened the Bills
stole the momentum. They had a chance to take the
lead and win the game. That doesn't mean if they
were able to do that, the Eagles never had a
lead to begin with. Right, It's just so bad. It's
just such bad logic. Momentum absolutely exists. And this is
(34:09):
on the heels of me doing a list the last
time I filled in for Big Ben. Right, So I'm
doing list radio at least one segment that I thought
was good at least a good idea, and it was
the biggest surprise NFL teams this season, good or bad?
You know what did the top five look like? I
was entertained. Maybe I was only one, but yeah, I
(34:31):
was doing a list segment. I know Ben hateses list radio,
and then I'm doing Yes. Momentum is absolutely, without a doubt,
unequivocally a real thing in sports. Oh, Coop, I'll say
this is the last thing.
Speaker 2 (34:46):
I'll say.
Speaker 3 (34:47):
I'm sick to my stomach here because I was watching
a game a couple.
Speaker 2 (34:51):
Of weeks ago. It was the Mountain.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
West Championship game. Okay, and it's Boise State and they're
playing UNLV I think, and RG three is on the call, right,
and They're about twelve minutes to go in the game.
And I had just been arguing with Looney about this
right where trading texts, where trading voicemail, you know how
(35:16):
Looney is. So it went from us talking about momentum
to somehow Looney tying it into like molecules and I
don't know, like geopolitics, and it's like, Looney, I don't
even know what you're talking about. At this stage, they
were talking about momentum and then RG three coop he says,
I'm not even Kennedy goes, momentum is not only real
(35:40):
in football, it is real in life. And I'm like, Boob,
let's go RG three And I went and I looked
and I'm like, oh can I And they were going
to replay the game on FS one. I'm like record,
I'm recording the game. And so I'm watching the replay
of the game. I'm like, all right, I remember I
wrote it down, twelve minute mark, this is our this
is audio gold. I'm gonna send this to Looney right away.
(36:03):
And what they do they skipped forward. It was like
a dead period of the game, like there's a huge lead.
And it went from I don't know like the beginning
of the fourth quarter, like seven minutes in the fourth quarter.
They totally skipped over it. I can't find it. I
can't find it anywhere. But shout out to Robert Griffin,
the third Man. He believes in momentum, not just in
football but also in life. But look, man, at least
(36:26):
in sports. Oh gosh, momentum absolutely exist. You know what
else exists?
Speaker 2 (36:33):
The who Am I? Game?
Speaker 3 (36:35):
So there's a stat I saw shout out to Sports Center.
This was on with Scott Van Pelt and yeah, well
you're not a big Sports Center guy there, Cooper.
Speaker 2 (36:46):
Yeah, that's fine, it's just me. No, he's a great show,
great job.
Speaker 3 (36:50):
But they had a stat on the show where it
just said that brock Purty he has accounted for five
touchdowns in each of the last two weeks, and this
is the the first time it's happened since twenty twenty.
Speaker 2 (37:10):
And the other guy who pulled this off.
Speaker 3 (37:13):
In twenty twenty is the is the feature of this
who Am I?
Speaker 2 (37:18):
Installment? Here?
Speaker 3 (37:19):
So brock Purty counted for five touchdowns in each of
the last two weeks. Who is the last player to
have done the same thing in the year of Our Lord?
Twenty twenty.
Speaker 2 (37:31):
Who Am I? Who?
Speaker 3 (37:33):
Your responses more than welcome at the No Show on Twitter.
Feel free to get him in and we will share
the answer with you. Right around the corner. I'm Brian
no In for Big Ben Maler right here on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (37:45):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Ben Maller
Show weekdays at two am Eastern eleven pm Pacific.
Speaker 3 (37:51):
It is Fox Sports Radio. I'm Brian no In for
Big Ben Mahler. All right, so, oh gosh, I just
he's got a momentum tweet. Good lord, Oh my gosh,
I'll save that my guy Jordan breaking it down. Yes,
I swear Jordan is a well actually guy. Everybody loves
(38:14):
you know, quote unquote well actually well actually the New
York Giants play in New Jersey. Hey listen, well, actually, guy,
go jump in a river. Okay, how about that. Yeah,
I'll get to that momentarily. My guy Gunner, he says,
the who Am I game?
Speaker 2 (38:33):
So we're looking for who Brock Purty.
Speaker 3 (38:38):
He accounted for five touchdowns on Sunday night against the Bears.
The forty nine Ers got to win forty two to
thirty eight. Five total touchdowns for Brock Purty and wow,
what do you know?
Speaker 2 (38:49):
What a coincidence? He did the same thing the prior week.
Speaker 3 (38:53):
Back to back weeks, this playmaking machine, brock Party has
accounted for five touchdowns back to back weeks. That's right,
consecutive weeks, five tds. Baby, he is the first quarterback
to have done this since twenty twenty. Who's the other guy?
Who's the other quarterback that accounted for five touchdowns? Who
(39:16):
and back to back weeks? Gunner checks in and says,
my answer is my guy, Cam Newton. It is not
Cam Newton. I like this, Miguel on fire. You are
the hefty lefty Jared Lorenzen, by the way, I can't remember.
I don't know if it's Philip Rivers being back now.
He's a righty, you know, but it reminds me of
(39:39):
the hefty lefty at times, you know, at times he
moves a certain way and put on a lot of weight. Yeah,
And Keith e checks in and says the incomparable mister
Moe Mentum Am I okay went with Moe Mentum.
Speaker 2 (39:54):
Love that guy? You do love that guy? Oh yeah, okay,
good start my day with him every morning. Then I
lose him by do you That sounds like a hm.
Almost sounds like an innuendo. Right there. I circle back
on that one, right there.
Speaker 3 (40:09):
Sounds like circling is involved in the momentum process.
Speaker 2 (40:13):
I digress. All right, No, it's.
Speaker 3 (40:15):
Who am I the guy who in twenty twenty that
accounted for five touchdowns in consecutive weeks? How about one?
Russell Wilson? That is right, so brock Purty. He becomes
the first quarterback since Russell Wilson in twenty twenty to
account for five touchdowns in back to back weeks. How
(40:38):
about that? And it made me think immediately about well,
you know, how fast Russell Wilson's career came off the
tracks and how much work brock Purty still has to do.
These are two outstanding performances back to back weeks, but man,
there's still a lot of work to be done to
(40:58):
reach the promised lan All right, coming up next the
team in the NFL. I am happy to fade in
Week eighteen. That's on the way.
