unmatched selection, fast free shipping, free road hazard protection, and

(00:47):
over ten thousand recommended installers direct dot com the way
tire buying should be well. Every night during the week
that we don't have an NFL game, so that's gonna
be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, we will be on Aaron
Judge watch Yankees Slugger and a l m v P
because we can call him that now because you know

(01:09):
he's going to win. And also remember I told you
before the season started he was gonna win when that
future pays out dinner on Smith Lobsters for everybody. Bottom
of the ninth inning right now, and unless the Blue
Jays come from behind to tie this game, you are
not going to get a home run from Aaron Judge.
He is oh for one tonight, wait for it, Wait

(01:30):
for it, wait for it. He has been walked four
times tonight by Blue Jays pitchers. He is hitting three
four teen, so still right there, potentially win the triple crown.
But the seven game homerless streak for Aaron Judge continues.
But here's the thing is when you think about oh,
Aaron Judge, like you think he's slumping right, Oh, he's slumping.

(01:51):
He's slumping, he's slemping. He's not slumping. Jason Stark had
the stat earlier tonight on Twitter his on base percentage
during this seven game slump when Pete pitchers are pitching
around because now, I don't want to give up sixty
one to Judge. I don't want to be that guy.
I'm not going to do that. I think maybe this
is the best strategy. He's gonna see four wide all
the time. His on base percentage is almost six hundred

(02:15):
on base opportunities for teammates stats six hundred. So he's
not been slumping. He just hasn't hit a home run,
which is fine. Now, do I think he's still gonna
hit sixty five? Probably not, but he'll get to at
least sixty two. There's there's still a bunch of store
playing the rest of this week, all this weekend into

(02:36):
the middle of next week, and he's going to get
a couple more home runs. You're gonna get a couple
more shots at it. Wait till the Yankees have the
games that they get back home. He's going to get
a couple. But now it's sixty five. I had that
number in my head for a long time. Now now
I'm thinking maybe sixty two sixty three is where he's
gonna top out of. But to think that he's slumping, No,
he's just not hitting a home run. And oh, by

(02:58):
the way, remember he could win the triple. Crowds set me.
This is one of the greatest offensive years in the
history of baseball, played over well over a hundred years,
one of the greatest season in the history of the game.
And like they always chanted when you were a kid,
I'll walks as good as a hit, not when it
goes to your batting average. Though, yeah, I think we

(03:18):
could send that note to our friends that work for
Apple uh and do broadcasting and everything in terms of
how a batting average works. You know, I doesn't. I
honestly always thought a walk should help contribute to your
batting average because it's it's it's what you're suppose you
trying to get on base, and a walk is yes,
but you're not chasing bad pitches or you're fouling off pitches.

(03:40):
You're finding way to get on base. I would that it
it should be more than just oh yeah, well you're
on base percentage is really good? Okay, well, which is great, right,
I mean, like again, it's almost that is. We could
break it down every way until Sunday, all the different categories.
He's in the lead or show hal Tony's in the lead,
and that's all fine. Good bottom line is this. I
like that pictures aren't grooving it to him. Go work.

(04:02):
He had an a pitch at bat ends in a walk, Okay, cool.
If he wants to go and hit that home run,
maybe he's got to hit some high cheese up around
his eyes. Maybe he's got to extend out over the
plate a few inches where he would normally take that
right good batting I normally a ball that he would take.
Maybe he's gotta get a little desperate in the last

(04:22):
few days. I think that could be fun. Detrimental perhaps
to the batting average, but fun theater from me watching
him saying, hey, what did you do? He golfed it out.
He had to go down and literally get it out
of the dirt because they weren't going to give him
something to hit. But but here's the other thing, is
that what you've heard from Aaron Judge is from people
who just don't watch baseball. Oh, he's in a drought

(04:44):
and he's slumping and he's frustrated. Okay, if he was frustrated,
he would have a lot of strikeouts and his batting
average the last set his batting aage, would he be
hitting in the two hundreds low to averon Judge. But
he's not, because he's doing the right things. He's jakes
and he's getting on base. The Yankees are winning games.
And you know what, this is another big blank you

(05:05):
that Aaron Judge has to the New York Yankees. Oh,
you don't want to give me the money that I
I should get, and we haven't talked about this all
season long. Look at the end of the year when
I have a chance at sixty two, and really shove
it in your face. You know what I'm doing. I'm
being a team guy, and I'm taking the walks and
I'm getting on base, and we're winning games, and you
still don't want to pay me. I'm being a team

(05:25):
guy throughout all of this, not Barry Bonds. I just
want to swing and hit home runs. And I'm not
gonna give my teammates hitting advice because they could be
on a different team next year. No, I'm gonna be
a team guy here. This is such a big blank
you to the Yankees in the front office doesn't want
to sign him. He's still doing all the right things,
he's just not hitting home runs. It will get there.
I Am not worried, But this whole theater now, I'm

(05:48):
almost just as just as caught up in Willie win
the Triple Crown as will he get to sixty two
home runs, because triple we've seen sixty home runs. How
many times we've seen sixty home runs and he's at
four or five, six times, But Triple Crown. Yeah, I've
seen it once, right, I've seen it once. I saw
Carbrera and that was it because the last one you
gotta go all the way back to your stream scheme,

(06:09):
was the last guy to win the Triple Crown before that,
and I wasn't even alive. So this is kind of
this is like, hey, this is something I've only seen
once in my lifetime. And it wasn't even a big
down to the end if I don't remember. For Cabrera,
it was yeah, he's going to win it, like nobody cared. Yeah,
because it was Cabrera. But also this batting average coming
down to the end of the season, now this is fun.

(06:31):
Well that and still needing a couple more home runs
to potentially find your place in history. Again, we can
do all the arguments we want. Nobody took took down
McGuire's seasons, Nobody took down so so seasons, even though
he's persona non grad on a whole other level than
everybody else at Barry Bonds, finally talking about the Hall
of Fame would really mean something to me. Well, he's

(06:52):
still up there at number seventy three, right, they have
not taken that down and seven sixty two. But put
some more data on your errand judge. Month of September
twenty two games Jason thirty three or seventy seven, hundred
two plight appearances, seventy seven at bats thirty three for

(07:13):
seventy seven. That's a nice robust for batting average. That's
almost a hundred points higher than any other month of
that he's had this season. So you want to talk
about still getting your home rudge right, nine home runs
fifteen rb I on the month he had that streak
early on, but hitting four entering tonight's game in the

(07:34):
in the month of September just absolutely absurd. Very few
pitches to hit, being selective and making them pay. Unfortunately,
that's probably the way this season is gonna end. Is
is a bunch of that. And yes, you might get
that one pitch that you find in the sweet spot,
but I'm gonna guess you're gonna be dancing around the
edges of the plate or up down as opposed to

(07:56):
one finding its perfect sweet spot for you. Twitter, how
about a fresca Mike gets swollen done the Jason Smith
Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. We could talk
about how complicated other banks make it to radium credit
card rewards, or we could talk about how with Discover
you can redeem rewards for cashing any amount at anytime.
You talk about amazing learn more discovered dot com slash

(08:16):
redeem rewards terms, they do apply. Now, speaking of the
batting average part of the Triple Crown for Aaron Judge,
because everything else is as academic. He leads in RBIs
by eleven and home runs he's but he's not winning
the Triple Crown. Uh, Judge looks like he's going to
end tonight again with the lead overall lead in batting

(08:38):
over Rayas who is one for three tonight, are one
for fortnight for the Twins hitting three thirteen. Xander Bogert's
in a game in which the Red Sox have thirteen
runs is oh for three. He is now hitting three eleven.
So now that's a little bit of daylight between the
two of them. No matter what happened, Judge ends tonight,
you know, oh for one, I'm hitting three fourteen. It

(09:00):
is It's fun theater, right because now you start trying
to get into the mind of Aaron Judge because obviously
Triple Crown batting title huge because you have a terrible
day and just swinging at everything and don't take the
walks that are being offered. Then yes to the detriment
of your batting average. And now we're talking about um
shading a point here or there versus extending your strike

(09:24):
zone and trying to hit that elusive sixty one or
sixty second home run. It'll be interesting to watch his
approach at the plate, not just for the spectacle of
the end result, but just watching his decision making and
whether there's any variants here in the final stretch. And
you know if he does press, If he does press,

(09:44):
it will be the final weekend. He's not because he
only needs look, he only needs to write. As much
as he'd like to get sixty three, he only needs
to get to he's not getting seventy. The goal has
got to be sixty two. He's not press. He's not
going to press until the last couple of days, like
this time next week, when there's two or three games,
like they're going to the final series of the season,

(10:06):
and if he's still one or two values, that's when
he's gonna press, because now it's okay, now I gotta
hit that home run. I still win. So right now.
It's still all good for him, which is you could
see by the way his his approach the game is stayed.
Everything is good. But the whole misconception of Aaron Judges struck. No,
he's not. He just hasn't. I just read off it
right off the stats. I mean for the month of September.

(10:28):
I mean, it's absurd. You're talking about twenty five strikeouts
in those hundred two plate appearances, seventy seven at bats,
twenty three walks. So you're talking thirty three hits. Take
off the twenty twenty five strikeouts, thirty three hits on
what fifty two ball balls put in play? Unbelievable, unbelievable.

(10:53):
Twitter at how about a Fresco Mike ha swolled up
speaking of unbelievable. All right, let me just say this
because this is the most frustrating part of the day.
Um final tune up for the United States in the
World Cup tie Saudi Arabia, tie, Saudi Arabia. Didn't even
look at coach left the field. It was what the hell, man,
I mean seriously, And here here's the thing. Here's my

(11:15):
big problem with where the United States is right now
is that they can either look like a top five
team in the world or a team without any interest
in playing like that. That's the that's the up and
back that that they are, that's the that's how good
they can be and also how frustrating they can be. Uh.
The only saving grace for them is that they're group
that they're gonna be playing doesn't have any stars in it,
so they can move on. Look England, every Look, they

(11:36):
don't have a superstar. You have to worry about a
Ronaldo or a Messy or anybody. But the biggest problem
is I don't know that Greg barl Halton knows whose
players are gonna be. It's like wholesale changes. All right,
we're gonna I mean, you gotta know by now who
your players are gonna be, right, And I feel like
there's still thirty guys he's choosing from. You gotta know
who your guys are by now. Oh, here's the substances

(11:56):
in the second half. It's like hockey, We're gonna just
look at my chair, everybody. All amends are coming out,
all the forwards are coming out. Everybody's it. I feel
like he doesn't know who his players are gonna be yet,
and that That's my biggest worry is that it's just
gonna He's gonna try to mix and match and it's
never gonna come together, and the United States is gonna
have a disappointing run in the World Cup. Yeah. The
other thing I was concerned about is watching this match.

(12:19):
Towards the end, there are a lot of slide tackles
getting up around thighs, just below the knee, Like, alright,
someone's getting seriously hurt here. All Right, you get a
yellow card only because it's a friendly and those a's
a real game, he'd be thrown out. It's like, well,
you should throw him out on principal because he's being
stupid and a friendly. Jules, you give this guy that briefcase,

(12:39):
I will shoot him on General Princess. Be sure to
catch live editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike
Harman weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific. You know,
People is kind of a horror film at this points. Okay,
well it's not. It's not so off. First of all,
I love the fact that people are doing that at games.
They're just smiling at the camera, But what if it's

(13:02):
a whole big thing they're actually having people go, hey,
here's fifteen dollars in your Amazon account if you go
when you go to a game and you smil into
the camera. I mean, I think I think people are
doing that. Yeah, I'm not quite sure what the parameters
of it are, but it's it's happened at multiple ball parks.
That woman that was the originator came back today. So
and then likewise, you know Mr Metton closing in on him.

(13:27):
That's gonna be me if the Mets blow the lead
to first place. Why is he just sitting smiling at
the television. I don't know, but it's stuck on the
top twenty five rankings and the scroll for teams twenty
one through twenty five because Syracuse just let him sit
there and smile for a few minutes. Uh no, you know, honestly,
here's where I'm at. Uh. While it's like, boy, I
love the Mets playing these bad team why but they're

(13:48):
not winning. They have one more game and then it's
the big series against the Braves that is likely going
to decide the NL East. I think the Mets need
to play the Braves. I think the Mets need to
play They don't. They don't need to and they probably
wouldn't survive and succeed if it was. Hey, here's the
Marlins and then a series against the Pirates and then

(14:09):
we're gonna close against the Nationals. I don't know. I
think they need the Braves and need they need to
play that. So I think they need to hook up
the car battery and get the cables out and give
a Joel. That's what they need right now. What do
you got, Frostberg? I think you're right there, Jason. I
think they do need to play each other. And how
much easier would it be for the Dodgers if the

(14:29):
Mets beat the Braves. Oh man, dude, you don't want
either of those teams. Trust me, you don't want either
of those Smoke want and you're gonna have no pitching left.
Don Sutton is going to be starting game three of
your first game for you. She's gonna be starting game
one unless something happens and he gets pushed, and then

(14:50):
de Gram will start in Angel Hernandez will be jumping,
and then we'll be in a lot of trouble. When's
the Dark Knight coming into that? Seems like a lifetime
it was, It was so long ago. It seems like
we've had like four Halloween movies, but it was so
I think we've had four Halloween movies in the last

(15:10):
three years, four more than we needed every six months. Hey,
because the final trailer for Halloween Ends came out today,
the final trailer for a Halloween which the trailer, Yeah,
Wolverine going to be in that one, right, so what
a great mall. That's so awesome that here come the
X Men to save the m c U. Oh, it's

(15:31):
gonna be fantastic. Was really good. That was, Hey, here,
you want to play Wolverine one more time? Yeah? Alright.
One of the great prank battles and in comedy duos
we've had in recent memory. Reuniting for Deadpool three, I
set the clip to Madeline without any identifiers as to

(15:56):
what he was talking about other than dead Bull three,
and then she just started screaming, Yeah, let's go, because
it looked like it was a bit of Welcome to Wrexham,
because it's like in his study where a lot just
direct something. Oh no, no, it's Deadpool three, Okay, I
get it. I was waiting for them to sing the
uh Deadpool and rock Back and Lady song while they

(16:16):
were at no one wants to add a penny, So
we need Deadpool and Rob mc uh. You can tell
Mike and I both much. Yeah, we gotta beat the
min Marlin's first winter comes. But while while the because
really the Mets need to play the brain they need,
they need that kind of juice. They need the best
and to bring it out of them. And they've lined

(16:37):
up to Graham and Scherzer, the Braves have lined up
their pictures. It's gonna be fantastic. I just hope that
we get they're tied for first and not having to
win two out of three to tie for first, and
they'll settle it all inside the squared circle. He ll uh. So,
while that is happening, and I'm watching the Mets season,
just drip drip, dripped down the drink. Well, mine's done
and it's been announced that the manager ain't coming back,

(17:01):
and everybody knows. Look what, Tony, it has been great. Yeah,
that lasted about a week. Now, it's okay. It's you
got that extra week. You got that extra from Northwestern.
That's true again. If you moved to Europe to play
your games, you would be just fine. You might be
the most dominant team in the world when those conversion rates,

(17:21):
maybe in Northwestern they're beating they're beating Eating, they're beating Wrexham,
they're beating Whales, they're beating everybody. They're beatings out there.
A month what happened to me? Because he's living at
the Guinness Factory. I think they keep giving away free
beer because they keep running that he's it's fantasy. He
keeps showing up for the tour. Uh. Now, we'd like
to tell you, hey, we're ahead of the curve on things,

(17:42):
and we are because a lot of stuff. Times we
do topics and we do things and we give you
thoughts and opinions, and then you know, a month later, it'say, hey,
guess what case in point, I told you Hurts was
going to be the NFL m v P before the
season started, betting all the way down to six to one.
By the way, yeah, well yeah, that's why you had
to get him. At was eighteen to one when it
season started. But when I told you he was gonna

(18:03):
win an MVP, yea even better maybe one. It was
he was out there with just he was out there
with Zach Wilson. It's seven. But this season has gone
from here comes Trevor Lawrence too. Here comes Trevor Lawrence,

(18:25):
the second coming of the franchise quarterback of the last
twenty years. Because he is now officially arriving, the Jaguars
are a different team and so far to in one
this year. Look that they lost at Washington opening week,
which they shouldn't have done, but still, uh. He has

(18:46):
been terrific so far this year. Six touchdowns, one pick.
His quarterback rating is over a hundred. He was great
against the Chargers, who have a great defense yesterday. We're
missing a couple of players, but this was a dominant Yeah.
I think he played with nine prosberg playing, Yeah, I think.
I think didn't he was shocking out the defensive ending.
You know, he wasn't no defensively by the way that

(19:10):
Joey boasts a report of Hey, he's got a severe
groin injury. But you know what, well, we'll have to
see he's not gonna be signed online if it's a
severe groin injury. Smith, come on, you tell me that
first severe groa First, how quick are you getting back
out of it? Groin or growing? It's it's a grow,
It's a growing injury. That's what we Hey, I know

(19:32):
who you're taking shots at. How dare you? It's a
growing but here comes Trevor Lawrence. He is arriving the
national attention that he will get when he actually breaks through.
Could be this Sunday if they beat Philadelphia. Who's three
and oh but the big banner headlines are coming really soon.

(19:53):
We're telling you now like usual because we're ahead of
the curve and just watching Trevor Lawrence, watching him play
this year. You know, I always say, look, what do
I know about football? But the one thing I see
from him that is different in him from last year.
His body language is so much better. His decisiveness is
better than it was a year ago. He's comfortable in

(20:14):
this offense because hey, look at what the Jaguars did.
Let's go get a guy who won a Super Bowl
with Nick Bleep and Folds. Now, I'm sure he can
do things right. And look what they're doing. He looks
like a different quarterback. He's making big time throws and
he's ascending, and he's ascending quickly. And just like a
month ago we told you about Jay hurt Now everybody
can't say enough about Jalen Hurts. In a couple of weeks,

(20:36):
it's gonna be Hey, Trevor Lawrence is here. He finally
looks like the guy he was at Clemson. He finally
looks like that guy. And the thing is, he's not
throwing the football to a bunch of stars. He's throwing
the football t J. He's literally throwing the football to
a bunch of Jags. I mean he's not. It's not
like suddenly they brought in all these tremendous weapons for him,

(20:57):
and and he's got a J. Brown and Devant a Smith. No,
he doesn't have these guys, but he's making weapons out
of them, and he looks terrific. He is arriving. It
is Trevor Lawrence time. In a couple of weeks, everybody's
talking about it. You remember, oh yeah, we talked about
it here first. Well, I mean you look at the
way the roster's constructed. Go to the defensive side. Frostburg
was there watching it live and in living color on Sunday.

(21:20):
The other Josh Allen is pretty damn good too on
the defensive line and one against the right. So you've
got a good defense. So now you you work to
balance and with Lawrence you've got a good run game.
James Robinson has been fantastic. Travesy Tienne is there, they're
both averaging over four yards to carry. And then Christian Kirk,
the guy everybody mocked when he signed his deal. I

(21:43):
think I might have been the lone national voice raising
his hand, going this works. They have to overpay to
bring someone in and and people saying, well, they screwed
up the mark. No they didn't. Right, It's like Tom
Brady when he was taking no money and I was like, oh,
he screwed up the cup. No, he's an outlier. You
go and you say, you know what when you play
for the town Brady money and the quarterback and his

(22:04):
agents start laughing at you, and then you get the
real negotiations. Likewise, wide receivers you have Christian Kirk gets
paid this amount of money. It was, oh, he didn't
get to a thousand yards. Ever. Last year he was
at he's he's he's okay, he's he's a but he's
a guy that is become your security blanket, right he

(22:28):
he is lioness and that little blue blanket and he
knows Christian Kirk's gonna be there. Even last year go
back he was he got nine point five targets a
game from Kyler Murray. He's a guy that you trust.
He's gonna run a precise route, So put the ball
there and you're good. And then you've got Jones and
Jones the league for twenty years. I mean, these are

(22:50):
these are just guys. Then Marvin was a guy that
always wanted more from yelled a little bit more likewise
a Jones. Yeah, but Marvin Jones is the third guy there.
I mean, it's it's not like that's all he needs
to be. Yeah, but it's it's not like they brought
in a whole bunch of guys. He's elevating the wide receivers.
But by spreading these guys around and including Evan Ingram

(23:13):
and then you'll have more of e t n coming
in with the out of the backfield. Right. Ten targets
thus far. But you're not my opic, right, You're looking
at some of these other teams. Go back to Marvin
Jones when he was in Detroit. What what did Stafford do?
What did any other quarterback? That's they would exactly, but
I mean they would stare down their number one option constantly.

(23:36):
It's what what one of the problems you're having Las Vegas.
What do you do with Devon Dabs? You threw to
him too much? Now you didn't throw to him enough.
What's the happy medium? And is he happy? No, he's mad?
All right? Is that a problem? And is that something
that's going to fester here? Every nobody's an a list
guy saying, hey, I should be getting the ball fifteen

(23:56):
times a game, in and under all circumstances. And that's
better for a young quarterback. Yeah, you'd like to have that. Yeah,
just sticking in. That guy is gonna go get it.
DeAndre Johnson's of the world. And you know, pick any
of the guys that you you go to now. But
I like the way this offense is constructing. You can
be far more creative with it. Look, it's it's it's
a terrific development for the NFL because now here comes

(24:18):
another start and and all the worry about Lawrence he
is now answering those questions. Right, he's now, He's now.
But they run more plays than they did. But now
with the with this group of wide receivers that there's
fifteen teams saying our wide receivers are better than there.
It doesn't matter. He is in the perfect situation, and
because of the way it ended in Philadelphia, Doug, the

(24:40):
image of Doug Peterson took a big hit because it
was boy, what are you trying to do? Are you
trying to win games? Are you trying to get a
better draft position? Remember that last game against Wahington a
couple of years ago was really eased. People forgot this
is the guy that want to bleep in Super Bowl
Man and the Jaguars went out and they were lucky
to get him. And when it happened, we said, hey,

(25:01):
they got from this Urban Meyer fiasco to a guy
who was absolutely perfect for this team. And look at
where Trevor Lawrences and still this is a bunch of
new guys in a new system. And look at how
they're playing. They have the best offense in the division.
This is gonna continue on for Trevor Lawrence. And in
a month it's gonna be Trevor Lawrence new superstar. Look

(25:21):
at what's going on with the Jaguars. Look at how
there a show every week now and we're seeing Trevor
Lawrence highlights all the time. He is a different guy.
His confidence, his body, leg which everything. He always had
the talent, now he's making the throws, and he's he's
making space to to make the throws. He's getting outside

us now the hotline for all the big drama in

(26:47):
Major League Baseball. Aaron Judged, Mets in the Braves and more.
Cardinals clinch, Yankees clinch. The Lions are actually not bad.
It is long time MLB network Fox Sports radio insider
John Paul Morossi. He is on Twitter at John Rossie.
What's happened to JP? I'm doing great, guys. I wanted

(27:08):
to chime in because I was chatting with Justin during
the break and I was listening intently to the end
of the previous segment. I am a loyal listener of
the program in addition to being a guest, and I
heard this conversation surrounding the parlay that involved the Lions.
And I will tell you that, um I did not

(27:31):
watch the game on Sunday, but I did listen to
a portion of the second half. I was transporting my
children in our minivan while listening to the great Dan
Miller to the broadcast. Dan Miller is outstanding. The great broadcaster,
and and when there are nervous moments involving the Lions,
I appreciate Dan's professionalism as he guides us all through them.

(27:55):
And so I'm here with my children in the van
and the Lions. I'm getting the call by ten pointed
at the end of the third quarter. Maybe things are
different this year. And then I dropped my kids off,
picked him up back in the car, and Dan's tone
is changing subdenly a little bit as the fourth quarter

(28:15):
goes along. And then my children, who are not entirely
familiar with with the Detroit Lions. Um, my ten year
old said, Dad, what's happening? I said, sweethearts, it's the
same thing that always happened. There is great, There is great,

(28:36):
There is that feeling of dread, and there is a
similar and familiar feeling of devastation. By the end, and
you heard of it his voice. Golf throws, the ball
gets intercepted, and the game is over. And so I said,
I said to my daughters, I said, girl, this has
been happening since your grandfather was five like so basically

(29:02):
nineteen fifty seven, my father was was five years old,
and that was the last time the Lions won a championship,
and of course, as you know, they've won a playoff
game in then, So it was just it was a
very therapeutic and and connecting of generations moment. But I'll
never forget that question for my daughter, Dad, what is happening?

(29:23):
I said, sweetheart, It's the same thing it always happened,
and it was. It was a very I felt as
though I communicated something empirical and true and meaningful about
the state of the world to my children. So it
was the least gratifying in that regard. Wow, that is
That is one of those moments whereas a dad, you say,
I could lie to you because you're young enough, but no,

(29:44):
it's time to tell you the truth. That It's like
when when my daughter looked at me and said, Dad,
what happened to Gaston? Oh, Gaston fell in the in
the mist he fell, And yes, he fell. I'm gonna
I'm gonna protect you for a little bit longer. Don't

(30:05):
ask me about the Lions. He just isn't coming back.
He went away to Florida. That's exactly right, That's exactly right.
It was, guys. It was It was quite a bit
to day and I tell you what, We've got a
lot of great storylines happening in sports. Michigan narrowly survived
that that game against Maryland, so I'm sure what we'll
chat a bit about that. But how about these baseball storylines,

(30:27):
guys that you mentioned. Cardinals clench, Yankees clench, and you
see now the Mariners and Phillies are still on pace too,
uh to end their playoff drugs And oh, by the way, Jason,
I believe the National League East is tied at the
top again. How did that happen? He's been sweating and

(30:48):
eating profuse amounts of uh snack foods this evening. He's
got from chips to ice cream, back to chips, waiting
on dinner to come in. He had a cup of noodles,
all of these things like gets stopped like he's stress
eating JP on a whole other level. But but I'm
gonna tell you something, JP, I'm gonna tell you something here.
I'm I'm being honest with you now. Uh, it's been

(31:08):
a struggle for the Mets playing the also rans, right,
They've struggled with the Marlins, they struggle with the Nationals.
They need to play the Braves, they need the juice
of that series, I think to get their swagger all
the way back. It's not working with we should be
beating these teams and where we're trying to find the
energy and we're squeezing the sap out of our bats.

(31:29):
They need to play the braves. I'm excited about this series.
In a couple of days, well here it comes. Obviously
this weekend is the is the big showdown, and it's
gonna be a lot of fun. And obviously to me,
it's not only the division on the line, but but
certainly the tiebreaker within the divisional race, because when you
look at the way that the new rules go, basically

(31:52):
to the winner of this series will go the tiebreaker
as well. There is no such thing as the game
one longer. The winner of this game, or the winner
of this series rather will will likely have the the
seat the season series effectively to to win and then
go forward and we'll see obviously what happens there and
in the month of October. For me, though, Jason, I

(32:12):
still look at it and say, there have been enough
concerning signs with du Grom and Scherzer that a I'm
a little worried about them getting all the way through
October being effective and be It just makes me wonder
how exactly Buck Show Walter is gonna manage his pitching

(32:32):
over the next week to make sure that everybody is
lined up. How seriously do you pursue, Like would you
pitch them on the final day of a regular season,
for example, to try to secure the buy in the
first round, and then if you don't, you're left without
one of your key guys to start a game in
the playoffs. So it's gonna be a really, really interesting

(32:54):
race that I think Buck Show Walter and his staff
have to constantly be calculating based on how things are looking.
Now on the Atlanta side, one of their best pictures
and arguably their best guy in the last couple of months,
Strider is now on the Andrew List, So it's not
a bough there without complication either. But I do like

(33:14):
the way the Braves have been playing over the last
six weeks, better than the Mets over the same amount
of time. John Ball Morossi our guest of Jason Smith
Show with Mike armand here Fox Sports Radio at John Rossi,
where you follow him on Twitter, MLB Network, you see
him everywhere. He's a man about town, whether he's showing
up at a college football game paying more attention to

(33:37):
the Lions, same old Lions, but certainly our guy for
all things Major League Baseball, and we'd be remiss and
we didn't get around to Aaron Judge, a guy that
right now, what four walks today, that's twenty seven walks
in the month of September. He's barely got more than that,
and official at bats now, just kidding, but the reality is, uh,
you still batting, batting title, triple crown, all of these things.

(34:00):
When does he start reaching out of the zone to
try to hit home runs? J When does he try? Yeah,
that's the big question, because I'll say this, I still
believe he's going to get the record, the American League record,
and the reason why is because he has stayed within
his approach. I think that this series, in particular against Toronto,

(34:22):
he's being pitched very carefully because the Jays have so
much on their on their agenda. They're trying to make
the playoffs too, Whereas this weekend they could be facing
a Baltimore team that is, if not objectively eliminated, as
getting close to it, and then they finished with Texas
and so you're gonna see I think, easier pitching matchups.

(34:44):
I really thought today tonight's game was gonna be a
great matchup for him. Uh, Jose Berrio starts for Toronto
in this game, and he had given up the boastone
runs of any pitcher in the American League not named
Garrett Cole, and I thought that he would have potentially
given up a home run to Judge. He gave up
some loud contact, but ultimately not not a home run. Now,

(35:06):
obviously Judge is still on face to win the Triple Crown,
which to me, to be able to win the Triple
Crown while hitting more than sixty home runs or at
least sixty, that's never been done before by a Yankee.
And so it's just it's a really special it's a
special achievement that he's on the precipice of of getting
even if you set aside one and sixty two. And

(35:28):
so for me, he is such a good hitter. He
has not been sort of uh, you know, going outside
of his approach to try to find a way to
maybe go outside and get this this home run to
right field. He's taken things I think the exact right
way to do it so Aaron Judge and the consistency

(35:48):
of his approach has been his calling card to all
season long. And while it is a little strange to
see him go a week without any home run, became
oh so close twice last week a Yankee stadium, he
is still the same hitter and eventually, as the matchup
has become more favorable, he is going to get it.
Do not fret my friends, all right, so JP when

(36:11):
it comes to the other team that clints I, oh,
by the way, the Cardinals clinch the team that you know,
we don't really talk about because the talk is all
about the Yankees, the Astros, that Mets, the Dodgers. Do
you believe in the Cardinals this postseason? Are the Cardinal
team that can do damage or a Cardinals team that, hey,
you know, when they play a better team, they're gonna
wind up going home. They are as dangerous as any
team in the National League period. Now I realized they

(36:34):
have to likely go through an extra round of the playoffs.
They'll they'll host at least that best of three series
in the wild card weekend. But look at how they've
played since the trade deadline and the impact of guys
like Montgomery and King Tana. What Albert Boodles has done
is simply extraordinary without compare obviously in recent years for

(36:56):
a player at that age should be able to hit
that milestone of set been hundred home runs. Great called
by the way by Rayne Wayne Randazzo on the Apple
broadcast there for Friday, of course the great Mets broadcaster
as well. But I think for me, Goldschmidt Ronado, you've
got two m VP candidates, plus Albert, plus someone like

(37:17):
Tommy Edmands is a really great complimentary player. Guys, this team,
I assume they'll get through the first round because they're
just playing that great and then they're gonna run up
against the the National League East champion, And if I'm
the Mets or the Braves, whoever that team is, I
would not be super excited about that matchup at all,

(37:38):
especially because they're gonna be in a rhythm, and they're
a team that's in such great rhythm that playing that
best of three series at home I think will actually
be fine for them. I would not worry about that
in the least. And so from my perspective, they're a
team that you do not want to face, whether you're
the Dodgers, the Braves, the Mets, anybody. I think they're

(38:00):
gonna be a really tough poul in the month of October.
So let me ask a question about the Dodgers were
currently uh taking them in as they play in Dodger
stadiumself as it's now called down there down in pet Go,
A team that seven and three of their last ten
coming into the night's action, JP still pedal to the
metal and everything, at least in terms of winning games. Now.

(38:23):
You talk about the talent on the squad and the
Swiss Army knives of the guys that just keep coming
up and raking, But is there any concern over the
fact that they haven't played truly meaningful games in a while. Yeah,
I think that's a valid concerned Mike. But I think
the larger concern for me is is there their pitching

(38:43):
staff right now and the state of things uh gonsil
in the midstime. Obviously with injury in the second half,
Dustin May has been back on the I L. I
do think Kershaw is in a pretty good spot at
Kimberle got deposed, right, But that's exactly the issue. The
ball and when you get to the end of September
and you've got a multiple time All Star closer who

(39:07):
is not your closer anymore. Think about this, and this
is why Dave Roberts is such a great manager at baseball.
He just had to deal with this for the last
two to three years with Jansen, and the idea was, Okay,
it's time maybe for a change. Kenley goes to sign
with Atlanta and here he has another legendary closer who

(39:29):
he has to remove from the roll. I mean, I'm
sure that at a private moment he would say, my gosh,
I thought I was done with this, but he not.
And so is it going to be Alex Massia, isn't
going to be Evan Phillips, Chris Martin, whoever? It might
be late in the game. Will it be a starter?
Who they us in relief? It's David Brice, who knows

(39:50):
it's not This is not the way it was supposed
to be. It might be grad role, but the bottom
line is they got Kimberl to avoid exactly the a
segment of radio that we have right now, which is
it's play Deepcember, it's lay deeptmb and here we are
again on on your great radio program talking about what
Dave Roberts could do with the closer who's not pitching.

(40:12):
So this is this is a problem for the Dodgers,
and again this is where the Cardinals. I trust Hellsly
more than I trust anybody the Dodger pen right now.
I mean, they're they're the Cardinals pitching again. They've got
to go through one more layer of playoffs. But I
like that team, and I like their pitching right now
more than I like the Dodgers pitching. He's on Twitter

(40:35):
at John Morrossy. That is at John Rossi MLB Network,
Fox Sports Radio Insider, also brand new Detroit Lions Insider.
He has a new podcast coming out that involves him
and all members of his family. He records the podcast
in the car while they're driving listening to Lions games
on a Sunday. Wife of a Lion with John Palmer. Oh,

(40:56):
there it is, explains the Lions. Dad explains the lines
live from the minivan. That's my life, my friends. We'll
get that children's book written in no time, flat book
that explains that explains that the different years of Scott
Mitchell era, Chapter three, the Scott Mitchell Era. There you go, Yeah,
take any easy funny j V.
