an unmatched selection, fast, free shipping, free road hazard protection,

(00:44):
and over ten thousand recommended installers tirect dot com the
way tire buying should be. We'll love Born, the Bears,
and the Patriots coming up in a minute. It's all
Bears right now, just under five minutes left to go.
They lead New England and Bailey's Appy Sody three to fourteen.
But tonight has also been a big night in the NBA.

(01:05):
And you know, I I don't bring this up that
often because you know, I really don't. I don't like
drawing attention to myself. But but I did say before
the season, John Morant was going to be m v
P and show he's the best player in the league.
And John Moran tonight thirty eight points, eight rebounds, seven assists,

(01:25):
had a big three that clinched the wind over the nets.
The Grizzlies are three and one, the nets are one
and two. Kevin Durants not shaking hands walking off the court.
John Moran's baiting Ben Simmons into fouling out by not
picking up the ball all the way across half court.
That was a half ass fall though. That was really

(01:45):
a bad It's funny to watch, but then you see
the follow like wait for it, wait for it, and
you see the fall that actually gets called that's a fall. Yeah, yeah,
we're gonna we're gonna call that. To follow a guy
out of a game, come on, man, But you gotta
check that guy's history, like you know with the guys
you know signing signing cards like you had Mike Evans whatever.

(02:07):
That was some I'm saying, oh, he's the captain, so
it was some kind of card like this is a
kid's soccer um. But you know, you gotta go check
if this guy lost bets because Ben Simmons did something
badly in a playoff game in the past, because that
was ridiculous a six foul call. But I mean you
had a great battle though. Durant and Irving both go
for thirty seven. On the other side, you get thirty

(02:30):
eight from Jah and thirty eight from Desmond Bayane who
was eight of eleven from three point right. Yes, Mr Wayne,
what's a big game for us? Are two players hurt
thirty eight? They both had thirty seven, Mr Wayne, and
were able to win by ten. Nobody said the words.
Nobody said the words that was a premature Batman was
a premature. Now I said it though, and so we

(02:52):
get it twice. Okay, we're done. Okay, we're done. Let's
hope we're done. Your guy's fall. I didn't do any
of it with one. With that song that you played
the theme to that show Chicago Barry, don't. We're not
playing that anymore. Uh So, John Morants, I'm telling you, buddy,
look at John at thirty eight. The guy's unbelievable. It's

(03:14):
just watching some of the plays he makes. He's got
everything you need, right, he's got the highlights, he's got
the game, he's got the wow factor, He's got all
of it. He's got everything you could possibly want in
the next great player in the NBA. He'll win the
NBA MVP, he'll be crown the best player in the league.
All of things. Things will happen for him this year.
Just stay healthy. That's it. That's all that needs to happen.

(03:34):
Memphis has enough firepower. You got uh what three other
players besides him into double figures in what became a
score fest throughout. I mean there was fun back and forth.
I mean, what we're talking about the second week of
the NBA and oh we do m v P talk
and every other sport, right, Players of the Week were
announced this week too, So I mean that gets everybody

(03:55):
all hot and bothered. So good times. Uh so that's happened.
And the next one, so there is that one there
one going away. The Bulls beat the Celtics. Right now,
you're looking at if you had a look at that,
you're a guy, Bailey Zappy, he could go. You just
you just did what I do when something happens to

(04:16):
the Jets, and remember you because so don't ever make
fun of me that again, because you didn't know, because
here's the thing. You started the show by extolling the
virgins and telling me how great Bailey Zappy was. After
after you did that whole down to Bailey Zappy thing,
he has absolutely sucked er terrible, no cheering the press like.

(04:39):
First of all, no, I didn't say Bailey Zappy was great.
I never said that. I said Mac Jones was just
a guy tearing down Mac Jones. You elevated Bailey's appy
due to your reasons. He bias and the love of
those last couple of games comes in as a couple
of drives here and he's done nothing, said j Ge.

(05:00):
Just put Bailey's appy right there with just a guy.
That's it, just a guy just saying that's fine. But
I told you, but you got all excited about Bailey's
app because Mac Jones, because Mac Jones. No, I'm not
excited about Bailey's appy. I just told you Mac Jones
stinks and he wasn't very good, and he was propped
up all the probably shouldn't have played. And they had

(05:21):
this assinine plan of hey, let's play both guys tonight.
You get too seriously a plan you only think to
play both quarterball. There was a report before the game
that they you'd see him both, well, we did, We're
gonna see mac Jones and then come out of the
game before were gonna do Why did you do that? Then?
Why would you that? This is where Belichick is like,
do you really want people to think you don't You

(05:42):
don't know what you're doing? And you were lucky to
have Tom Brady, you were lucky that you were able
to ride that magic carpet for twenty Really, you're gonna
play two quarterbacks? When's the last time anybody did? That's
like the less did it? The last time? I remember that? Honestly?
Was Herm Edwards doing? You know? Clemson did it this week?
And that's college. He completed two passes and they won.

(06:03):
Did they win? Yeah? Clemson? And the refs? Did you
know what's funny? There was a lot about the refs
on Saturday and I'm working through, you know, and we
were out to the to the pitch and all, and
then I started looking at everybody's c V. Every one
of them was ghad that was complaining about the refs.
I'll tell you there's no way there's people who were

(06:24):
even had no no dog in the fight at all.
Saying yeah, I I I can't believe Syracuse doesn't have
a ton of things to complain about. It's something how
Syracuse was up by eleven and in the second half
nine penalties were called on Syracuse. In fact, and and
one they missed a big uh late hit out of
bounds on our quarterback where they just called one three
plays before that. Yeah, a little little, little sketchy and

(06:46):
when he actually had to And this is my favorite
part of it with with the referees is that there
was a plan in the final drive for Syracuse where
they threw for a first down. It looked like the
receiver was out of bounds. He caught it, but it
was a phenomenal catch and he comes down inbounds. Clearly
there's no one hand control of the ball foot down.
They look at this play for five minutes. I'm going

(07:07):
they're just looking for a way to overturn this. A
CC rest and find it on YouTube. Come listen, we're
gonna play this later on the show. I was wondering
why you didn't have Clemson down on your Twitter hand.
Did you you stop, you worry about your you listen
to the guy calling the penalty. It sounded like he

(07:27):
said it, like he was upset to have to say,
I have to call this in favor of Syracuse. It
doesn't sound like the guy that was afraid to call
penalty on the exactly it was. He sears his mike
and he kind of breathes. He goes after review of
the play, the receiver had one foot down with possession

(07:49):
of the ball. That is a first out, Like he like,
I I'm sorry, I have to tell you this, Like
I'm really disappointed to say that. Like I really wanted
to come out here and say, hey, not down, no, no, no,
a CC. You can't tell me there was, there's there's
there's nothing ever kind of bias just happened there that
happened for Clemson at home, that happened against Syracuse. Can't

(08:10):
tell me. Can't tell me otherwise. I watched the game.
I want telling you what we're gonna pine. Watch play
that referee back who sounded upset to have to call
a play positive for after review. That's the biggest game
of the week. Really, yes, it was. You was justin
Fields and the Bears going into Foxborough eight and a

(08:31):
half point underdogs, two minutes remaining. Wait, there's enough time
for them to blow this one. Are you kidding the patients?
You get a scoop and score on you might get
the field before from the Bears. I hope we do,
because for you and I in fantasy, if the Bears
score any points here, we can we can wind up.
We can wind up getting out a victory. But probably

(08:52):
not because the Patriots aren't gonna call time out to
stop the clock. So we're gonna get screwed out of this. Yeah,
this is where the good old forty second coming back
that's going to happen. We could talk about how complicated
other banks make it to redeem credit card rewards, or
we could talk about how we discover you can redeem
your rewards for cash and any amount at anytime. I mean,
talk about amazing learn more discovered dot com slash redeemed

(09:14):
rewards terms they do apply. So again we are coming
down to the end. The Bears run a third and
goal play, they go down at the one yard line,
So the Bears are gonna have one final play here. Potentially,
maybe they run the football, maybe they try to kick
a field goal. It's going to end with a Bears
victory thirty three four teen Right now, rending. We're gonna

(09:37):
have time. We're gonna have time for Bailey's Appy and
and and Mac Jones coming up in a couple of minutes.
But I do want to say Justin Fields tonight throwing
the football was fine. Running the football, he was terrific
design runs. Baby, telling you what did we say last week?
You have to take advantage of the skill set that
Justin Fields has. And this is He's never gonna win

(09:59):
a passing tie all. He's never gonna wind up throwing
for five touchdowns a week. But you have to take
advantage of the fact that Justin Fields is going to
be a guy that can throw for two yards a week.
But you have to get him those design runs and
get him out and let him be who he is.
We told you this last week, and look at what
the Bears are doing, and now maybe there's a glimmer
of hope for Justin Fields going forward as the Bears quarterback.

(10:22):
You can actually the last couple of weeks of okay,
finally they're loosening things up a little bit and letting
him be the guy. Which if they want to turn
the page on him at the end of this year,
you gotta find out from him. But I do feel
a lot better about justin fields after the last two
weeks than I did the first four weeks of the season. Well,
maybe they finally opened all the letters I sent them
from you know, the off season about what you needed

(10:43):
to do when you've got a guy with the skill
set that he has, particularly when you're you benched your center. Okay,
Mustaf had to be benched because he couldn't snap the
ball and adequately at least slow down would be rushers
straight up the gun. Hence you've got an issue whereby
you need to roll the pocket. You need to get
him some space. You need to get your inadequate receivers

(11:06):
some time to get open, because you actually saw a
cold commet get open a couple of times. Tonight made
a big catch along the sideline and then said, hey,
let's get up to the line and let's let's get
a snap off here because they hate overrule me. He
got a knee down. He was fine. But the point
being that you've got to design your offense for the
skills you had. You know you can play some defense,
you know you can run the football, and you know

(11:28):
this guy is electric when he gets to the edge.
And turns up to run. How you don't utilize that repeatedly,
I don't know. Tonight he had more rushing attempts, especially
when you get that kneel down in. He ended up
with one more rushing attempt than he had completions, which
is okay because you rushed the ball forty five times

(11:50):
for two three yards. Take his away, you still had
sixty two each from Montgomery and Herbert and then the
twenty nine yard run by Pettis. That's winning football. That
takes time off the clock. And when you're playing teams
like you you were tonight and next week, a big
step up in class, at least from an offensive perspective
with Dallas. And on the other side, you've got to

(12:13):
contend with the defense that's aggressive. I mean, that would
be a fun game to watch. Will not be a
forty four nothing kind of barrel. But in this case
you had the perfect formula and yet of a clearly
a flawed New England squad, even with the savior per
look last week against Washington, we said you have to
get more designed yards out. You have to and and look,

(12:34):
twelve carries for eighty eight yards. Last week again had
another none of those have been designed. No, but but actually,
right now, these are actual plays to take advantage of
what he does. I feel like you and I called
should call plays for the Bears. Hey, how about you
do this instead of trying to make the guy into
a quarterback he's not. Let's increase the rushing attempts and
let's decrease the fact. Okay, give him a little bit

(12:56):
more responsibility if you're going to lose, find out about
the it who you thought was going to be your
franchise quarterback and now they're letting him do it. Like
I said, I feel better about justin Fields now than
I ever had the time he was a Bear. All right,
here you go from my my older brother watching this
game in Chicago. Little brother has some more choice words
for what you just witnessed there in Foxboro. Uh this

(13:16):
zapp He was zapped, the zappy guy playing more like
Williams and Scott Pale. Oh wow, t J not in
charge of anything, apparently teaching. Be sure to catch live
editions of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays
at ten pm Eastern seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio and the I Heart Radio app. Fox Sports Radio.

(13:38):
The Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon. Hobo,
we could talk about I'll complicated other banks make it
to redeem credit card rewards, or we could talk about
how with Discover you can redeem your rewards for cash
and any amount at anytime. I mean, talk about amazing
learn more discovered dot com slash redeem rewards terms they
do apply. It's jubilant, Hobo, it is. It's you jubilee

(14:00):
because the Bears have won again and by that I
mean for the third time this year. But you also
have a two team Parley Bears and Bulls on the
money line. Because it was the battle of Chicago and
Boston plus eleven. If you wanted to be in Chicago,
that in my city. Tonight we got a hockey game

(14:23):
that we got that we got the black Hawks are
ain't playing tonight the i't even get a chance to look,
are they playing the Bruins. We could have had that
three pet right there. You would have had all three
of those games. That would have been something they would
have had him right there. What about Betha forget not
even God, not even talk about that. We'll just we'll
just stick with everything else. Baseball's long gone. My friend,
So which which high price free agent will? They say

(14:44):
we're close on this year. Look, hey, that guy was
gonna sign and then he didn't. What do you want
us to do? We went and they canceled the sucks convention.
They canceled the fan convention. It is a money grab
of all money grabs, because they didn't want people to
be mad at them, and so they said, well, you
know what, we canceled it, Dirk Covid, let's not bring

(15:05):
it back. Fans are and said, we're trying to figure
out how to how to rally people together. I'm figuring
it could be a money maker for me, just so
they could vent against ownership. Well that's what you can't say.
Baseball's over. People think it's over, and and there are
dozens of people waiting for the World Series. Okay, you
just watch. Well, I mean all our friends and family

(15:25):
members that are Yankees fans. I mean maybe they went
to Aaron Judge's last game as a Yankee for under
twenty bucks. Get in was under last night? Yeah, yeah, yeah,
ponder that didn't talk to my dad all day today.
He was mysteriously just not around today. I don't know,
I just puting I don't know, maybe make sure. Maybe

(15:47):
I mean. I talked to Fabiano on my way in
and it was just I want Aaron Boone gone. I
want Donaldson gone. I want It's what every Yankee fan
they want. Everybody. I want Donaldson gone. I want I
want everybody going. Everybody's gone. You can dramatic reading. I
was looking at the quote tweets that people were doing
a Michael K. You do. You can do a half

(16:08):
hour dramatic reading of what he did today. Oh my god,
he was calling for everybody. I want everybody gone. It
was it was hilarious. Yeah, I want better gone, everyone
tourist gone. I want everybody gone. Beater was the only
guy to hit the ball. I want Trevino gone. I
want everybody wants everybody that pitched a third ending out

(16:29):
of the bullpen, You're gone. That's every Yankee fan that
I want all these guys gone. And what I want
to do is where we needed Garrett called the most.
Where was he I want to clone Arran Judge and
I want to make him play every position like bugs
Bunny in that cartoon. Right, we're gonna play for It's
gonna be first base. Aeron judge, second base eron judge
short baron judge, their base aeron judge, pitching, eron judge,
catching eron judge. We do all the whole thing. Uh yeah,

(16:50):
So Yankee fans not feeling it right now, not feeling it.
But yeah, listen, we have plenty of time to get
to the World Series. Yeah, because start on Friday. Let's
rush through all of these rounds so we can wait
four days for the World Series. Yea, the series had
both gone seven games though. You know what, sports is

(17:11):
a pretty big enterprise. You can kind of fly by
the seat of your pants a little bit and schedule
games a couple of days in advance. I'm pretty susy,
and you would get people showing up. I'm pretty sure
you could do that. I'm pretty sure you could say, hey,
all right, it's elver now. Instead of waiting until Friday,
we're gonna start Wednesday. Oh how are you gonna do that? Now?
You let people know. I'm pretty sure when you're windows

(17:35):
and add rate on a on a Wednesday really that
different a Friday night. This is where wait, wait when
you get Nick Cannon on Mass Singers saying and we'll
be back next Wednesday, unless it's Game one of the
World Series. We'll see you next week on the mess Singer.
That's how you do it. That that that, that's exactly
how you do it. Notice I refrained from a Nick
Cannon baby choke, so I circle back and got one
in without really making I didn't want people to think

(17:57):
I'm I'm not hip on what's going on in the
world right now. Did you say I'm not I'm not
I'm not hip. I'm hip because I'm hip to clip
because the Lakers are owing three some hip tip uh
so the Patriots loociak eight seven a another on the
Lakers that getting rid of Russell Westbrok's not gonna help.

(18:17):
But Bears win tonight thirty three fourteen over the Patriots.
And we talked a few minutes ago about Justin Fields
that I finally feel good about him because the Bears
are doing exactly what we said they need to do
a week and a half ago. Hey give him more
design runs, take advantage of what he does well. He's
a dual threat quarterback. Do it. And to look at
the Bears now they win a big game where you

(18:39):
would think that in theory, the Patriots playing at home defensively,
Bill Belichick would have a plan to stop Justin Fields.
He did not now the other side of the problem.
Yeah right, I mean you can. You could scheme all
you want. If the guys not fast enough to get
a hand on. Belichick is not not weighed down by
by any pads, he could have run on the front

(19:02):
Tom like. There were at least two times though that
I watched defensive backs for the Patriots. As Fields is
still in about here and going out of bounds. You
know what, take the fifteen yards. If he's gonna try
to steal that extra yard yard and a half, you
lay him out. You have to. He's still in bounds.
The crown that you're giving guys doesn't extend on the sidelines.

(19:25):
He might step out of bound. No, he's still gonna
keep stealing every inch that he can because you're skinnish
and slowing up. No, wreck him. That goes for any team.
I'm not advocating for the demolition of Justin. Hit the guy.
You realize you're talking about who who's whose college lost
the game because of that play, that exact play on Saturday.

(19:46):
Run the risk he's running out of bounds. No, let's
hit him. Going out. You know what, let's stick to
this game ends. The Patriots start tonight with Matt Jones
and for Bailey's Appy healthy enough to be playing. Potentially
there was controversy with Matt Jones and the Patriots unless
there wasn't either Matt Jones read it that read it
account that Ben Bolan got with. Either Matt Jones is

(20:08):
a great teammate or nobody liked him but but Matt
his birthday party. Matt Jones gets the start tonight. No
one called Sam Shepard. Uh. Matt Jones gets the start tonight,
doesn't play particularly well, throws a pick, and then gets
taken out of the game in the middle of a series.
Bailey Zappy goes the rest of the way for New England,
and after immediate success with Bailey's Appy, threw a touchdown

(20:31):
to Jacoby Myers. That was kind of it for Bailey's Appy.
The Patriots did not have a lot of offense in
the second half, They did not score any more points,
and they wind up getting blown out by the Bears
thirty three to four. Team. Now, we'll get to the
Matt Jones part of this in a second, but this
is where this is the game where for the first time,
because this is a big red letter day, something you

(20:53):
never thought you'd hear and you'd think about with the
New England Patriots. This is the game where fans are
gonna walk away and you're gonna see in the media
the first time looking for hot takes. You're gonna see
the first Bill Belichick must go. Bill Belichick has lost
his touch. Why is he planning on playing two quarterbacks?
Because that was the plants and I supposedly he said

(21:14):
the plan was to play Mac Jones and then Bailey's
happy and for both guys to play, both guys to
play in the second half. Who the hell does that? Man?
Nobody does it in the NFL. Nobody does. But Bill
Belichick has made questionable decisions for a long time now.
But because he won for nearly two decades, it was
the guy knows something we don't. Uh, you gotta trust

(21:35):
Bill Belichick doesn't know because what we've seen is he
doesn't draft very well, he picks bad free agents. And
now he's in this crazy ask. We're gonna play two
quarterbacks and I'm gonna pull Matt Jones after a quarter
and go to Bailey's at Why again, something nobody does.
There's other great coaches in the NFL, none of them
do this, but yet Bill Belichick does. And it's time

(21:57):
to realize that maybe Bill Belichick losing his fastball a
little bit because this does not make any sense why
he is doing what he is doing. You want to
go back to him wanting to to win his battle
with Tom Brady by signing a bunch of no names
and spending money where we don't have to have any stars,
because I want people to think I am more responsible
for the Patriots dynasty than than than Tom Brady was. Yeah,

(22:21):
because that's at the root of Belichick trying to win
this way. He has never wanted to not win this way.
He's always going out and gotten stars. He's always going
out and gotten stars from other teams to come in
and play. Suddenly now he doesn't want to know because
he had the ultimate star in Brady. The breakup was bad,
Brady wins the Super Bowl, and Belichick wants to prove
this is how I win. I want to win with

(22:41):
nobody's I'm gonna draft guys in the first round at
a division N A I A schools and w I'm
gonna go spend a lot of money on players that
are in stars that maybe we're overpaying for because I'm
gonna do it my way, because I want to show
you my way of winning is the right way to win.
And for a while, Patriots fans and the Patriots, hey, okay,
let's give Belichick the benefit of the doubt, right because

(23:02):
of what he's done over the last two decades, and
Belichick knows what he's doing. Look at what's going on tonight.
Is Belichick still a genius? Couldn't stop justin fields who
can't throw the football, couldn't stop him, right, couldn't couldn't
come up with a better quarterback plan. Then here's one
guy for a quarter and another guy for three quarters.
What is he doing? This is this is the beginning
of Hey, maybe this is it for Belichick, whether it's

(23:23):
of his own design of I don't know how much
longer I want to play, whether it's i'd a coach,
or maybe I want to coach a different team. But
this was the night where things turn a little bit
on him, and things turned from Belichick the genius trying
to win without Brady to wait a minute, Belichick's kind
of done all this to the team himself, and he's
got to be held responsible for it because he's the
one making all the calls. So yeah, this is the

(23:46):
night where maybe Belichick isn't the genius. This is where
that becomes a big storyline now and the and the
ball goes down the other side of the hill on him. Well,
he also had the draw of Tom Brady. Whether you
know you do the wins losses because of him. I
mean that extends to the g M, to the players
want to go where they're winning. So they had the
luxury of both. And now you're in that post Brady

(24:09):
mode where you're trying to figure out the best formula
by which to come through. Now, Belichick the talent eval
evaluator from draft perspective, from that idea, Look, we've watched
him draft bad wide receiver after bad wide receiver. Right.
That has been one of the hallmarks of this One
of the things they were always good at is evaluating talent,

(24:31):
bringing guys in and then getting rid of them a
year before the expiration date. All right, we're done. They
go somewhere else. You say, all right, there's no tread
left on those tires. So that's that's part of it.
But with the offense that they have with the defense
they've assembled, should be competitive most games. You're not gonna

(24:52):
you're gonna gonna win shootouts, right, that's not that Like
even when Brady was there, you always get into the
argument of how great were a lot of the component
parts there? Good players made great by Brady. The only
guy offensively that you say without a doubt Brandy Moss
for a brief period and the near perfect season, and

(25:13):
then you had Rob Gronkowski. All the rest of those
guys were secondary, tertiary receivers, return men whatever. Right, the
West Welker path coming out of Miami. Decent PPR guy,
to put it in fantasy terms, but not a game
changer by any stretch, and a guy that might have

(25:33):
been relegated as a special team's ace with some receiving
ability had he not gone into England. Julian Edelman, he
now gets to do commercials about dropping phones and self
you know, self coverage and thing I hate dropping more
than football's is a phone call you speak now, right,
almost wait for him to deliver that line, now, don't

(25:53):
you when he's sitting there. But but it's just the
that idea of all, right, you had this diculous rout
of twenty years that's not gonna be easily replicated. We're
watching that all around where coaches get to stay and
and that's a rare feat in and of itself, even
when you have a modicum of success. But when we
look at the way the Patriots roster is constructed, still

(26:16):
spending money, just not spending it terribly well. Right, because
I refused to say, all right, well, what do we
gotta spend on. Let's go over pay for Hunter Henry,
who's only a red zone specialist, and then John U. Smith,
Let's give him a lot of money because we want
to take him away from the Titans. No, I mean that,
and then we're gonna stash him and wait and play

(26:38):
him for good. No, he hasn't fit and it doesn't work.
And Belichick, the GM has had a long suspect streak
of selections and free agent signings, and then he's been
able to coach him up. Right during COVID, you had
eight guys on your defense opt out and they were
able to coach him up and still play well. Did
they make less? No, But it was still when you

(27:00):
look at it from a talent perspective, Wow, they're really depleted.
And he got him together last year, still got him
to the playoffs. You could throw it away all you want,
the playoffs. This quarterback thing is curious to me. I'd
really like to know the status of Mac Jones. But
but look at look at what he's doing the Patriots.
Can you say they're on and upward trend. No, they've

(27:20):
been on a downward trend for the last couple of years, right,
so now they're okay, they dominant. But but all the
all the movies made, we're gonna we're gonna sign Cam Newton.
Cam Newton was done. We're going with Cam Newt. Okay,
he was done a draft Matt Jones. Matt Jones is great.
Now Mac Jones is just a guy. Are we gonna
go with Bailey's app You're gonna play two quarterbacks? What
we're gonna sign guys like John new Smith and Hunter
Henry that that we're gonna wagh over pay for and

(27:42):
they're not going to turn He's responsible for what's going
out on the field and what hasn't and it's not
working anymore. And coincidence, when did it start not working
when Tom Brady was no longer Remember the New England Patriots.
So all of this belichicks in any way, in any
of this Tom versus Bill war. Is there anybody that
and say, yeah, I'll take Belichick over Brady. No, I can't.

(28:03):
You can't. There's no way you can. But Brady went
to another team and won the Super Bowl the first year,
went to the playoffs in the next year, right over
the age of forty. And now what's Belichick done? Just
got down, down, down, And now that now they're under
five Jets and the Dolphins and other teams hang out. Dude,
I'm telling you the Jets not in last place, Patriots

(28:23):
in last place. But it's pretty cool. But I spun
it another way is that the competition is finally competent.
And it took twenty two years for that years where
they made the Jets madeoffs. Two years the Jets made
the playoffs and no. Two and oh four, oh six.
They had back to back a f C champions a
bunch of times from two thousand to two thousand and twelve.

(28:44):
Now it's been a bunch of It's no I think
the bunch of needs to be. I want to say
they were in the playoffs from two thousand and two
thousand and twelve. Five times. That was like twenty years ago. Well,
I'm saying the last ten years has not been good.
I'm not saying it was. But the first ten years
of the Patriots dynasty, the Jets were pretty good. They
were in the place every two thousand to two thousand,

(29:06):
two thousand six, you're really looking up. Yeah, then two
thousand and then that's when the tastes are six times.
That's six times in twelve years. We're good. There you go.
You sorry that I knew you were question one. I
didn't think he would fact chuck you. I had to
be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith

(29:26):
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern seven
pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the I Heart
Radio AP Fox Sports Radio. The Jason Smith Show with
My bist friend Mike Cars in the Bag or Shark
or something, Jones, Zappy the Quarterback Derby. We didn't think
we'd get, but we have, and now it's all we

(29:47):
can talk about. I love more on that's coming up
in about five minutes. But how about the fact that
they just stink? So we don't have to worry about
that It's true the watching Meat the Jets on Sunday
though that you know, I mean, look that we I'll
pick it. Now they're they're losing to the Patriots. Matt
Ryan has been benched for the rest of the season

(30:08):
by the Colts. He's got a shoulder injury. So Sam
Ellinger is gonna start. Remember Sam Ellener? Like, why why
is the name South Failure? He's the guy that Baker
Mayfield had that big fight with Oklahoma Texas. Oh, they
would fight over where they went to high school and
winning those games. And now one of them is the
starting quarterback and one of them isn't. Because ellenar is

(30:29):
gonna start the rest of the year. Nick Foles will
be the number three. Even when Ryan gets healthy, Nick
Foles be the number two. Even when Ryan gets healthy,
it will be Sam Ellinger. And this is the end
of Matt Ryan. Now, first thing is we we we
talked about this. When you try to go value at quarterback,
it very rarely works out, right, very rarely works out

(30:49):
Because here are the Colts. Let's try to go value
with Carson Wentz. Right, let's got to go We'll go
cheap at quarterback. No, it didn't work Okay, let's go
cheap with Matt Ryan. No, it didn't work. Can't go
cheap there. You can't go value at quarterback. Can go
value other positions, but you cannot go cheap at quarterback
in value. And that's what the Colts did. But this
is the end for Matt Ryan. Now, this is it.

(31:09):
This is the end for Matt Ryan. He's not gonna
play anymore. Stop. He'll be the guy backing up Zach
Wilson next year. They don't have Joe Flacco. But and
he's done. And when you think about Matt Ryan's legacy
to the NFL, this is it for Mattie Ice is
that as good as he is, I can't think about
as good as he is, he should have been more.
He always went. He had two big years. He had

(31:31):
two big years. He had a big lead in the
Super Bowl, and he had a big lead the Super
Bowl and he and they and they never cashed in
on it. Uh. He always had weapons. He had Julio
Jones forever, he always had. He had Roddy White. He
had big time players there and he wasn't elite enough
to win. He threw too many I N T s.
He was not good in the clutch. I mean, his

(31:52):
career is littered with moments in the clutch where he's
not able to come through. And that's kind of Matt Ryan.
He's more an A to B core her back then
the A to C quarterback. As good as he was
Mattie Ice a nicknamed boy. He comes into the league,
first passes a touchdown, Yeah, it's like, yeah, he was good,
but he really should have been better. That's kind of
how it come down with Matt Ryan. Forgot. He also

(32:13):
had a lot of years where he had Tony Gonzalez
is part of that offense right towards the end of
his career where he was still catching seventy balls a year,
So you had a lot of development and opportunity as
the receivers in the running game. Defensively, they struggled, but
he would put up solid numbers, never spectacular, except those

(32:35):
those two outlier seasons as you mentioned, and obviously the
m D p uh and then losing in the Super Bowl.
But going into this situation, look at the Nets don't
get to Indiana to play the Pacers until Thanksgiving. That's
a long time. That's to get that voodoo going and
get and get it out. You gotta get that all

(32:56):
the quarterbacks since since your guy Andrew Luck retired and
left everything on the battlefield and walked away, and then
the Diary of Captain Andrew Luck began. Uh, the quarterback
position has been an abject failure. And now Ballard's got
a roster that they can't keep their Their stars haven't
been healthy, right, Shaquille Leonard hasn't been on the field.

(33:17):
The offensive line suddenly became cieve like like all of
these things, and Ryan like he's a turnover machine. The
number of fumbles. You would think he was the guy
with the tiny baby hands, with the inability to hang
onto the football, and he's he's more mobile than any
other quarterback in the NFL. Right, he makes Brady look spry.

(33:37):
So look at me. I feel great. I'm the guy
from the comer brought that the old guy commercials. I
always wanted to find and tackle him to go Terry

(33:58):
Tate office line. I love the people who thought that
guy was like a real guy. No, it's a guy.
He was like twenty five in makeup to look like
he's eighty five. It's Larry David's down from now. You
could have done that ten years ago, you could have
gotten Dick Van Dyke to do those. He was still
he's still moving pretty well now. Look at this picture
of the working out at the gym. No twitter at

(34:25):
how about a fresca Mike hats swollen down. The Jason
Smith Show with my best friend Mike Harmon coming up next,
as far as Jones and Zappy Go. I hate to
say I told you so, but the kind of dead
fox Now I just want to go to Magic Mountain
