(00:23):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. That purported a lot
of really bad Jewish tropes, including one that says that
the Holocaust was completely made up. Kyrie Irving had a
couple of chances to at least tamp it down a
little bit at press conferences and didn't. He was standoffish
(00:44):
and elitist, and it didn't end well either Monday or today. Now,
after he gets suspended, then Kyrie Irving decides, I'll maybe
I gotta have an apology. I'm gonna read you a
little bit of the apology right here before we get
into it. Um. He says, I posted a documentary that
can tain some false anti Semitic statements, narratives and language
that were untrue and offensive to the Jewish race, religion,
(01:07):
and I take full accountability and responsibility for my actions.
I am grateful to have a big platform to share knowledge,
and I want to move forward by having an open
dialogue to learn more and grow from this. He goes
on to apologize to Jewish families and communities. He initially
reacted out of emotion to being unjustly labeled anti Semitic.
He wanted to clarify his confusion and where he stands
(01:29):
on fighting anti Semitism. He did not intend to respect,
disrespect any Jewish cultural history regarding the Holocaust, or perpetuate
any hate. So this is part of the apology Kyrie
Irving put out there on Instagram a little while ago.
And it's still stunning Mike to to think that Kyrie
Irving decides, yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna draw attention by retweeting, uh,
(01:52):
this documentary that has a lot of false things in
it and things that are just not true, And to
hear him then go on those next two press conferences
and really just stand up and say, I know who
I am. I can't be anti Semitic because I know
where I came from to it. Did they just ask
you are you anti Semitic? You say no? And he
doesn't say that and it just to get inside of
(02:15):
why Kyrie is acts the way he does sometimes. And
we've seen him someone who is a complete and total
wild card, right, not not just situations like this, but
we saw him earlier in his career, earlier with the Nets,
where he needs away from the team for some reason. Right,
he needs to be away because he wanted to attend
to zoom meeting for someone running from mayor of New
(02:37):
York City. He needed away from the team around his birthday.
I want to sprinkle sage on the court. Um no,
I'm not gonna get vaccinated, so I'm gonna sit out.
All these different things we've seen from Kyrie Irving, but
this one is really hopefully the one that makes him
stop and think, oh man, I gotta be more careful
what I say and what I do, because this is
(02:59):
what happened to athletes and entertainers who have just an
incredible following and and and an incredible ego that you
can't help but have. When you're this kind of athlete
like like I, I can't believe there's anybody in the world,
whether it's Tom Brady or Kyrie Irving or anybody else,
(03:19):
that you get this famous and you make this kind
of money and you have this kind of influence on people,
and you have like a like an image of yourself
as I can say and do whatever I want to.
I have followers and people who want to know what
I think about things. And it's it's everybody has that
big stars have that unchecked ego. And it happens in
(03:42):
entertainment with actors who are making a lot of money.
It's always and the egos are always running. They think
no one is as special as me, right, And we
see it. We see an entertainment and we see it
in in athletics a lot entertainment. We don't see it
quite as much because like actors and actors as I
think they they kind of understand a little bit of Hey,
(04:02):
I'm having a really good life, and I understand where
I'm at, but I understand I'm also really lucky, because
that's what it's about. In in Hollywood and acting and
and and music, there's a lot of people that that
can do what you do, and a lot of people
are talented, a lot of talented people, and it's about
getting a break and getting lucky. And I think a
lot of actors and actions understand that that hey, Okay,
(04:23):
I've had a great life and I'm doing this, but
I kind of understand about how, hey, you know, other
people could be doing this, which is what happens when
you see at when you see actors and entertainers and
singers when they say or do something on social media
that is really oh wait a minute. You've had a
lot of people not liking you for this. You see
(04:43):
them back away because they have pr people who tell them, dude,
you what are you doing? What the hell is wrong
with you? You see that, you you realize you're gonna
get signed for to get paid fifteen million dollars to
do this movie, and now the director wants somebody else.
They don't think people are gonna come see this movie
because you didn't, and and you back away from it,
right because in the end, I think, you know, entertainers,
they get that, Okay, there could be other people that
(05:04):
could that could take my place doing things. But athletes,
there's not. There's nobody like Tom Brady, right, There's nobody
like Kyrie Irving. There's nobody like Lebron James. There's nobody
like these guys. And you are, you know, you are
special from a very young age, right, any athlete knows
when you are like in fifth grade, hey, you know
what this is? What this kid is really something. Then
(05:25):
you're in some kind of academy by the time you're
in seventh grade, and then you're you're you're traveling the
globe and you're you're going to all these a AU
tournaments or you're playing in these All Star games and
everything else. And you're told from a very young age, hey,
you are really really special. And what happens. Then you
get schools that want you, and they're coming after you,
and all they do is fall all over you. And
it's impossible to not go through this part of your life.
(05:48):
And especially when you get to the NBA or you
get to the NFL and you make a lot of money,
and and and and you have what is what is
nobody that can check you. There's nobody that can tell you, Hey, man,
I don't know about this. This is something Maybe I'd
think about this another way. There's nobody to do that
because and and and athletes nobody thinks and and that
part of what makes them a great athlete. Nobody can
(06:10):
do what I do. And I am driven, and I
am forcing myself to go and go to the extra
mile to be able to make sure that I am
always the best. I'm the best person when I step
on that field. I'm the best picture. I'm the best
first baseman, I'm the best keeper, I'm the I'm the
best when I go out there. And for the ultra
ultra rich and the ultra ultra famous, I don't know
how you stay grounded, you know, in in reality and
(06:33):
and have that Hey, okay, baby, cooler heads needed to
prevail on this because that's when things like this happen.
And you have Kyrie Irving, who for the longest time
has always been unafraid to share all of my thoughts
with you. You may not like them, but I am
completely unafraid to share them now. Certain things should he
have probably kept to himself, Yeah, obviously, but he hasn't
(06:55):
any either, doesn't have doesn't have people telling him, Hey, dude,
I don't know about this, sir. Whether he's got public
relations people or not, it doesn't matter. You see where
he gets to where he is right now, and it
and and I I kind of understand where people can
get to that point. Even even so for Kyrie Irving,
where after you, dude, after you tweeted this out. You
(07:15):
understand the impact this had on people. Nope, I'm just
doing what I wanted to do. There was nothing about
anybody else. I'm doing what I want to do. I'm
always gonna be true to myself. I am a seeker
of truth and knowledge. That's what he says. I'm gonna
be true to myself. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Okay, dude, that
Monday thing was a train wreck. Man, You're going to
get another chance on Thursday. Let's make sure we get
(07:36):
things and make things right. Nope, Okay, Hey, nope, I
am staying who I am. Dude, are you anti Semitic?
I can't be anti Semitic. No, just answer the question. Nope,
because I can't be because I know who I am. Uh.
This is what happens to people, and and when you
get to that level of fame, I don't know what
that does to your head. I don't know. If you
you you you start thinking how superior you are to
(07:59):
other people. And I'm smarter, I know more, just because
people have have have treated you a certain way your
whole life. But that's how I understand how things get
from from where it is. Too with Kyrie irving to here.
Here's a guy decides I'm gonna retweet something for a
movie to now here's where we are right now, or
he had to apologize when he was facing the end
of his NBA career. Yeah, Jason, I mean this happens
(08:21):
at all different levels, and we could take it to
the extreme when we talk about professional athletes and we
talk about actors and actresses. You know, you hear a
lot of the rumbling where we are here in southern California, Well,
this actor or actress, I think everybody wants to be
called an actor, but man, woman, whatever, in the business, Uh,
(08:42):
they may not be you know, a hundred percent who
they are in front of cameras and in interviews whatever,
right that they have different religious beliefs or political beliefs
or whatever else. There's more people that have these This
is you know, these feelings about certain issues, but don't
espouse them fearing they lose their career. You know what
(09:03):
we get on the athletic side of things. Look, man,
from the early age, you've got a lot of folks
that start seeing the gravy train and wanting to be
uh one of the cars on it as it traverses forward.
So who's gonna tell you no? And if you've in
most people's minds, right, who likes being told no? Your
(09:23):
kids don't like it from the the the first instinct
you say no, come on, and that stays all the
way through, no matter how nebulous and innocuous the thing is.
But as you get older, it's the same thing. You
don't want to hear that. How you have interpreted something,
whether you've read it, you've heard it, you've formulated your
opinions for people to say you're wrong. And this game
(09:44):
is for Kyrie Irving. You know, you have your your
beliefs on different parts. You're asking questions. You want to
be the smart guy in the room, and that's fine,
but you're right. You have to recognize there's ramifications once
you put it into the public atmosphere. Right, It's specially
in terms of something like this, where it's hate, it's
(10:06):
bad history, it's it's detigrading uh an entire I mean
millions upon millions of people and taking everybody else there
with it. Right, you have people that are directly effective,
and then you have the larger conversations that are being
held and had going long before this go back to
(10:26):
the Kanye West. He now taking his thirty days sabbatical
or whatever from talking to anybody. Uh, and go on
down the line. The number of crimes that are associated
and called and deemed appropriately so hate crimes as we
go through. So for Kyrie Irving, here's a step. We
got this statement many people saying I want to see
(10:47):
him hit hit a microphone and say it, Well, once
that happens, what is that? What does that mean? Right?
Five games suspension at least is that rescinded? Are they
in the terms of a buy out? Like from a
basketball perspective, which is obviously the much smaller part, But
(11:08):
we are a sports talk radio show and network, so
we have to bring that up. Well, I would I
would think it would be the next I don't think
suddenly Josiah is gonna say, oh, that's all I wanted Kyrie,
You're back with the team. But but I think that
the next five days is gonna be well, while he's
out the next five games and this week is going
to be can we go forward with Kyrie or do
(11:28):
we need to move in another direction now that now
that he apologize and that that will stem the tide
for a little bit, and we and we've suspended and
so we suspend him and he apologized. So what now
is next? And the next week is gonna be can
we keep with them? They'll talk with Kevin Durant, they'll
figure things out. They gotta hire a head coach to
the nets are doing everything at once, and and that's
(11:49):
when we're going to get the decision. So I expect
this story to kind of now sit for the next
few days until the until they make that's still surprised
at the deafening silence related to people within the league.
The last week has been so quiet, and we've seen
uh any hint of misdeeds, misgivings, you know, bad actions,
(12:15):
bad actors across the league. And people are quick to
the the Twitter verse and into their social media spheres
or in front of a microphone to talk about this.
And you know, you've got a lot of silence, uh,
and it speaks volumes about how people are are handling
this one. You're against all racism or discrimination, or you're
(12:36):
not right. You can't just pick and choose what to
be against. Well, this is not that big a deal. No,
you're against all of it. Racism is bad it's awful.
It's one of the worst things we've all We've been
enduring for so long. You're either for it or against it.
You can't just pick and choose it. Well, this is
more important than no, you can't. You can't pick that.
I mean, there's no, there's no. Well, I'm gonna ride
the middle on that. And yes, it is disappointing and
(12:57):
I would hope to hear things in the next few hours.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox Sports Radio. It's a big disco party
Jason Smith Show with my best friend Mike. Any first
(13:20):
responder will tell you you never try to beat a
train after breaking It can take a mile for a
train to completely stop. So when you come to a
rail crossing stop because trains can't. Well, it's not just
Kyrie Irving making big headlines tonight. We could see big
time changes coming to the defending champs. The Warriors lost
to the Magic tonight. They blew a huge lead one
(13:44):
thirty to one twenty nine and they are in a
lot of trouble at three and six. Their bench isn't
playing well. The young players aren't playing well. Their defense
isn't good. They're not winning on the road, getting called
for carrying something nothing nobody ever gets called for that.
It's like it's like it's anything I can say about
the Knicks and other defense has gone. And Steve Kerr
(14:05):
said following the game tonight, we have to save us
because nobody else is coming. And the first step Kurr
said is, I'm going to examine the bench and the rotation. Right, Obviously,
the starters have been playing well, Wiggins, Draymond, Steph, Clay Looney,
they've all been playing well. The bench has been terrible.
But if you're working on the rotation, the players who
(14:26):
are playing terrible aren't just gonna suddenly start playing good.
We're gonna put them into a different situation. Well, and
maybe I'll start you when you work with this group better.
You know, we've always given Steve Kerr and this team
to benefit of the doubt that hey, we can figure
things out. We figure out slow starts, we figure out
the ways to do things. But watching them so far,
(14:48):
they seem to be struggling in so many areas, And
I know it's hard to admit. I know it's hard
to see, but it might be over for the Warriors,
because when when ever is of teams end, they end
really quickly. It's not some kind of erosion over many years.
It ends very quickly in a flash. And the title
(15:10):
they had five months ago. Now you're looking at the
dynasty from from this perspective, now, it seems like it
was Boy that was one they got. Really fortunate they
were able to squeeze one more title out of that
group before they all got too old. That's kind of
how I look at the Warriors right now. Is Boy
before Steph got too old, and before Draymond became a
guy that couldn't really do anything, And now he's punching
(15:32):
out Jordan Pool at practice, and before Clay is somebody's
still in a minute restriction. Is he ever gonna be
the old Clay again? No, all these guys are getting
in there in their uh mid thirties. It just ends.
And is Jordan Pool a super duper start, No, it
is Jordan Pool a really good player. Yeah, but guys
like Jonathan Comminger not playing well and James Wiseman is
(15:53):
struggling as well. So maybe the young guys coming back
aren't gonna be great. And but this is kind of
how it ends. You're not gonna always get an endless escape.
It's like people who say the same thing for Aaron Rodgers. Well,
eventually Aaron Rodger's gonna start throwing touchdowns. No, not necessarily. Man,
the Packers are a bad football team. They're in they're
they're in disarray because the Packers have gone through the
(16:15):
last couple of years of a wasted first round pick
in Jordan's Love, they draft a defense the last couple
of drafts. In the first couple of rounds, they have
not replenished offensive players. They've lost. They gave Aaron Rodgers
a lot of money, so now suddenly they have no
money to go get players out there. His receivers aren't
very good, and the Packers can't win. Just because the
team is always one doesn't always mean they're gonna find
(16:37):
some kind of escape, right. They're gonna they're gonna find
some way out of it, right, Like like like you're
watching your favorite adventure show and and the main characters
are in trouble, you know something's gonna happen at the end.
They're not gonna kill off these characters. They're gonna find
a way out of it like they always do. Doesn't
happen like that in sports, And and looking at the
issues that the Warriors have here, you know, not I
get it. It's nine games in. We've seen them do
(16:58):
it before, but they just don't look like the same team.
And you can only get so much out of a
group before hey, it's over. And and watching so far
seeing them, Hey, they got luck. They squeezed that championship
out last year. You know, John Morant got hurt. They
could have gone home in the second round. The Suns
just threw up all over themselves. They were able to
(17:19):
beat the Celtics, who were clearly not ready for the moment.
After after Game one, Jayson Tatum couldn't get out of
his own way. They played great defense, and the Celtics said,
I don't know what's happening, but this might be it.
Brace yourselves that this might be it for the Warriors.
Look at you, doom and gloom, and yes, that that's possibility.
Right whenever we start looking at the long play for
(17:42):
these squads, and looking around the Western Conference and these
teams on the rise and those that are just plucky
enough to mess things up. Yeah, it's certainly you slugged through.
But as we've seen in the past, and not that
you have the proverbial switch that you can flip. But
you don't have to play all eight two. You just don't.
(18:06):
And so getting out to a rough start, the fact
that you're windless on the road is kind of interesting.
But getting out to a bad start while you try
to integrate some of these rotational guys and young guys
a bit more, I I can't kill them for it.
Is there residuals from the Draymond Green Jordan Pool stuff
(18:30):
that's still in the locker room. Well we'll we'll have
to wait for someone to say it on their podcast.
You know, this is killing us, and maybe Draymond will
do it. Maybe he'll take to the to the microphone.
So by time we're sitting in for Dan Patrick uh
and the crew some eight hours from now, that suddenly
we get some revelation as far as that goes. But yeah,
(18:54):
it comes fast. We we see the cliff all the
time football wise. We we see injury is one extra
hit takes you out, or residual things finally take their toll.
Look at Peyton Manning fifty touchdowns plus and then that
was it. Guy getting carried along to win a second
Super Bowl. Now with with this squad and Steph Curry
(19:17):
still had thirty nine and nine play. Tomson was shot
ten of twenty four. Luneiate of left. Their starters were fine.
The rotational pieces have to come up with with better efforts.
And if you're Steve Kerr, how do you do that?
They've got to get trial by fire. Just getting beaten
up and beating around on a practice courts ain't gonna
get it done. So do it in early November against Orlando.
(19:42):
I mean, people are gonna save that ticket for Orlando
because I mean that's gonna be one of their only
wins this year now two and seven, right, I mean, look,
everybody's gonna save the Bankkaro tickets anyway. And that's fine.
We got nineteen minutes from our guy, Bowl Bowl four
point six rebounds for him. They got great balance in
(20:02):
tonight's game, seven players and double figures. Sugs had twenty six,
So I mean, there there's some good things going on there,
but they're they're not They're not gonna have a robust
win total. So they claimed this one for the Warriors.
Figure out what those those six, seven, eight, nine guys
look like as you get deeper, because all you gotta
do is be in the top ten. I find it
(20:23):
hard to believe they won't be there. It's it's hard, though, buddy,
if you just talked all those things that they did
and they still lost to the magic. The magic. I mean,
they're they're they're completely starting from scratch. They're playing one
on five. It's Paula Bankroin, that's it. They're playing one
on five. He was still able to beat them. Yeah,
I'm not claiming that they're playing great defense at any level.
(20:44):
Alright there getting run up and down. But again, it's
it's the first week of November, and I know, you know,
you want to have the first check in of which
team is going to be disastrous and and getting the
Warriors to fall off a clip might might help you.
But I'm I'm not ready after nine games, although going
winless on the road, I mean, even know the Lakers
(21:07):
don't have one of those, dude, Yeah, but those are
those both home games. The Lakers are back, baby, dude.
Matt Ryan saved your season, saved washed up my ass quickly. Hey,
if he didn't get benched. He couldn't possibly have come
(21:27):
out and saved your season. That's right, thank you, Ellen,
ellen Burger, what's his name? Ellen Burger? By the way,
Jonathan Taylor's to hurt again? How do how do we
feel about that? Not? Not not surprising, buddy, not surprising.
I'm not upset. You want to talk about and finding
(21:48):
the cliff ye. Be sure to catch live editions of
The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten
pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific, Fox Sports Radio The Jason
Smith Show with My best friend Mike Harmen. Hey. The
Breeders Cup World Championships coming to Kona Keenelan the next
couple of days, November fourth and fifth. Don't miss the
(22:10):
world's Best Thoroughbred's race for their share of thirty one
million dollars in purses and awards. Visit Breeders Cup dot
com to watch all the action live on November fourth
and fifth. Harmon's brothers are there. They've already talked about
there's could be a Miller light shortage there because they're
drinking too much of it. Not that that's what you said,
the beer but generally not the Miller lights. But yeah,
(22:35):
but let's give our picks for the Breeders Cup. I'm
gonna give you guys a choice, and you tell me
what to go for the for the big race, the
Breeders Cup Classic. Now, flight Line is the number one,
like one of the greatest horses ever already, it's talked about.
It's overwhelming favorite. So I will say to you flight
(22:57):
Line or the field. If I give that choice, flight
Line or the I like chaos. So I'm going for
the field. Field. This is like, this is an all
star race. There are good horses. Take the field, go bigger,
go home. Dominated there in up state New York, Epicenter
was one of the Triple Crown horses five to one
(23:19):
coming into this weekend. Oh, you guys are crazy. I'll
take Flightlin. He's three to five. Three to five, You're
gonna win big money. There doesn't matter. I just have
to wait. Why do you just miss it? A win's
a wind. You cash your ticket, You're still ahead of
where you started. Why is that a bad thing? And
it pays a dollar sixty? Are you are you paying
(23:42):
two dollars? Well, I go back to the original point.
It's an all star race. This isn't like your typical
race exactly whatever on a Thursday afternoon. All these horses
are badass. But even with all these horses, he's still
three to five, three to five to win. That's a
big deal, is it, though? Yeah? Those are odds the
(24:06):
Mets would never get. Oh you know, I knew that
was coming. So you're going with your boy fight? Oh yeah, yes,
Oh I said it. I'm going with Yeah, I'm gonna
go five to one. Hi, sure, who are you rolling with? Oh?
We all know life is good, So I'm sticking with
life is good. Six to one baby. That is the
(24:26):
that that that that is the quintessential tie shirt horse
right there. Life is good. Absolutely, life is good or
keenwa is great. I'm taking those well, you know, I
mean like just to you know, finished the point in
regarding uh, you know, taking your wins man. The Eagles
remindus eight hundred on the money line. I'm sure plenty
(24:46):
of folks bet that, and if you've bet enough, you
win a lot. Alright, ma, come down down, just don't
just miss if it was Yeah, you want a line.
I still want to see a horse actually named keene one.
That would be Hey, you know what, we win the
lottery tomorrow we we open a stables. And that's first
(25:07):
that horse would have no energy. Yeah right, no, no,
and then and now his new nick. Now we gotta
call him Mattress Mike. That's there, gonna be Mattress Mike.
Now for the rest of the show, Baby Twitter and
out about a Fresco. Mike gets swollen down The Jason
Smith Show with Mike Carmen any first responder, I'll tell
you never try to beat a train after breaking. You
(25:28):
can take a mile for a train to completely stop.
So when you come to a rail crossing stop because
trains can't. Well, why don't we tell you what happened
to Rob Manford tonight during Game five of the World Series. No, no, no,
that was no violence. There's no violence. Will tell you
what it is that that's not happened either. Stop tight
(25:51):
shirt well tell it's coming up next from the tire
rac dot Com studios here on Fox Sports Radio.
