So the Ravens beat the Saints thirteen. And let me
just say, if you had to look past the obvious contenders,
all right, you get the Bills and the Chiefs, and
the Eagles, the Cowboys, Vikings, the Jets. Now get fun.

(01:10):
I'm glad you included the Vikings because I'm still seeing
people categorically dismissing them. Now they got cute with it today,
because all of a sudden, there's shirt like shirtless Kirk
Cousins dancing on the plane. So suddenly there cool. Well then,
well then you had shirtless Adam Schefter before that. That
didn't need to happen. Uh well, well they were trying
to get you some way to watch Andy Dalton play quarterback.

(01:31):
Shirt off. Okay, well hey it's you know, what do
you do? It's ESPN. It's probably something they came up
with right there. Hey, dude, take your shirt off like
Kirk Cousins. Yeah, what a great idea. You know how
things happened. This guy is a trusted That doesn't mean
he can't have fun. I mean, he doesn't mean he

(01:53):
can't have fun. Now you realize that every time I
just had to chuckle every time he breaks the story
because this happened before the game on the broadcast, Adam
Schefter took his shirt off with dance around like Kirk
Cousins on the plane. Uh you know, because now that
you know Russell Wilson started a thing doing high knees
on a plane, Kirk Cousins is shirtless on a plane. Plane. Now,

(02:14):
every time Adam Schefter breaks something or breaks a story
or doesn't break a story or said that, that's what
they're gonna show. That's gonna be the jif that lives
with him forever is him with no shirt on. It's
it's game tonight. It's a peanut butter. It's a JEF.
I'm thinking about peanut butter. I'm thinking about both. It's both.

(02:34):
You could say both ways. You know people really, but
the okay, Ken, I'm having conversations. Whatever I said, it's
like being at home. Sometimes whatever I say, the answer
is wrong. So it doesn't matter what I say, the
answer just going to be wrong. I can I say
that times. Just tell me, is this the point where
whatever I say is gonna be wrong? Just let me
know because I won't answer. You want to finish this.

(02:56):
I want answer. I want to answer. I want to
get back to eat alone. I understand if whatever I
say is gonna be wrong, just let me know. Okay.
If that okay, great, all right, Well that will move
on from there. So, yeah, that's gonna be it for Schefter.
I mean, that's that it's all going to be that
right that moment, you know, I mean, that's that's gonna
be it. I mean, you have that crazy goat sound
that will follow you forever. So yeah, you know that

(03:17):
happened in the first hour of the show, and it
was conspicuously absent in the last few minutes of the
show because I actually had to remove from the system.
Oh good job, but you had to remove from the
I had that removed. I told him to take it back.
I told him take it out of the sounds like
you had something else removed to that's him waking up

(03:38):
from the end secret. I really don't know what that really,
I don't know what I say. Is that the sound
you make when you buy it into a Big Mac
with no cheese or the sauce on it? Oh no, no,
that would be just profanity. Wait where the blank is?
This is not what I I'm going back and getting
a new one. I mean another one. Well, no, a

(03:59):
new one. I'm not gonna eat that one. I'm gonna say,
come on, what are they gonna do. They're not gonna
You're gonna wait, you're gonna throw that. I want a
burger without cheese on it? Why that makes burgers? It's
like why would I eat a cookie if there's no
chocolate chips in it? It makes notes? Those are empty calories.
Why do now there is a point to to what

(04:22):
you just said there, right, if you're gonna go down
and and and Alex said, I think you can gotta
shed some some light on that. If you are going
to deviate from the I'm eating healthy thing, then make
those calories count, right, Not just a cookie for the
sake of a cookie. Have the cookie you like, the
type of ice cream you want, the crappy food you like. Right,
if it's gonna be the greasy, messy late night indulge

(04:46):
me because I've had a bad day and I'm eating
my feelings. The Jets lost, Maybe my fantasy team isn't
doing so well. I didn't get to know whether I
could quit work and curse up my boss in the
morning because they didn't draw the powerball numbers. Whatever the
case may be, you know, make it the best of
the bad, I guess would be what I'm trying to say.
This is the table for the girls who eat their feelings.

(05:09):
I think about them, MinC. That's like you rob a
bank for a thousand dollars, just take the whole bank. Stop.
First of all, stop, don't con don't know. We don't
rob banks now, we do. Not even a little says no, no,
nobody does nobody on this show, we're not getting done.
But at the point of eating, eating a bad meal
of say a thousand calories instead of the thousand dollars

(05:31):
a thousand calories and instead you supersized, and now we're
all in for our four thousand calorie gut busts. Well, no,
I'm with you, because what I don't want to eat
one of those Oh look at this, it's one of
those vegans special fake chocolate chip cookies that No, why
why did you do that? Because that was kind of
mean tight shirt tear. He showed up for work ready

(05:53):
to go. He had a good weekend, he got to
go to a wedding. Shirt hasn't happy that's tasted good
in six years. It doesn't know what food tastes like anymore.
It's got no taste buds. They're all gone. We had,
we had some, We've had some beautiful meals together. The
day is that you don't bother to commit. Hasn't tasted
any of them, and nonbot what they say about you
on the days I don't commit. Oh, by the way,

(06:14):
you want to hate me too. I don't know. Maybe
maybe that's someone I made that noise. I don't know.
I have what you said? What did I say? I
don't know when I mean I'm a powerful and attractive man.
I'm I think I treat people pretty well around these parts.
I don't know when I said that. I really don't

(06:35):
know when I said that. It's bothering me now, right,
But what was the purpose and the the construction of
why I said that? Why we don't know. I know,
and I figured I've said it. Like two hours ago.
Brain had a moment where words did not come out,
synapses did not fire correctly. The open mouths say things failed,

(06:59):
I speak and no things. So the Ravens win tonight
over the S. They were never really threatened, and Baltimore
has now figured out how to close games, because had
they been able to close a couple of games, they'd
be undefeated. They had that horrendous non closure in the

(07:20):
fourth quarter against the Dolphins where they blew a one
lead and lost. They had a lead against the Bills
and they lost. They had a big lead against the
Giants with three minutes ago in the fourth quarter and
they lost. Had they just closed those games that they
were good enough to get out with a lead in,
they would be undefeated right now. To get we're playing
the if game. But it's not like, hey, they got
blown out in these games and had no chance. They

(07:41):
should have been able to close these games. I'm telling you,
if you are looking for a sleeper contender outside of
the main Bills, Chiefs, Cowboys, Eagles, it's the Ravens because
they have figured it out and it's les Lamar Jackson,
and it's a better product for the Ravens. He is
averaging three less passing attempts and two less rushing attempts

(08:04):
per game over last year. And they are a much
better team than they are. And so whether it's the
value of a two yard carry that they're still giving
the ball to running backs on the Ravens are better
and Lamar is doing less. They didn't have to bring
in and and And the weird part is they didn't
go out and go crazy and bring in wide receivers
that's gonna help them. They didn't go out and say, hey,
let's make sure our running back room is better. Know,

(08:25):
the running backs are all hurt and they're still trying
to make it work. Kenyan Drake had the night tonight.
Justice Hill is getting some carries, but it's not like
they went out and got better. It's just a little
bit less of Lamar Jackson, and they're much better than
they were a year ago. It's a little bit better
for him. He's more efficient and suddenly it's his tiny tweak.

(08:45):
Maybe they don't need to go out and get wide
receivers to Lamar Jackson. They just need to make sure
we have a deep stable of running backs that we
can still give the ball to these guys and they
can fall forward for a couple of yards here. But
that's the most improbable story of the season outside of
Geno Smith, is here's the Ravens who didn't get better.
They're asking Lamar Jackson to do less and they're winning more.
But this is what's going on in Baltimore. And I'm

(09:06):
telling you watch out for them because they have a
schedule coming up. It's Carolina, it's Jacksonville, it's Denver, it's Pittsburgh,
it's Cleveland, it's Atlanta. This is a pretty easy schedule
the rest of the way, and this could be a
team at the top of the a f C at
the end and you're gonna say, wow, they really can
wind up. What can they really do this? Yeah, they
can because they've been doing it so far. Well, you
saw him complete passes Lamar Jackson to double digit receivers,

(09:29):
several of whom you have no idea who they are.
I mean the collective you not you, Jason Smith. But
you've had an opportunity to build out a comfortable space
and a bigger role for Isaiah Likely. Remember we were
talking about him in the preseason. I had actually drafted
him in a couple of fantasy leagues that you know,
deeper roster kind of things, and then it took a

(09:49):
few weeks for him to get a role defined, and
unfortunately the injury injury to Andrews, but it does give
them another option. Now you've got two tight ends. While
we remember that working very well in the past. We're
not gonna name folks uh and the despicable acts, but
you remember things in New England Gronk paired up at
the tight end, possession position and all the great things

(10:11):
that went on there. So that gives Baltimore an identity.
You're talking about the running game, interchangeable parts. Gus Edwards,
who had just come back from injury, had a couple
of big games, wasn't available. Kenyan Drake we chronicled it
earlier in the show On again, Off again. But a
guy that can have his space, and that schedule that

(10:31):
you talk of for this next five to six weeks
is a pretty, I don't want to say easily attainable
because it's football. In two we've seen some crazy ass
stuff on a Sunday, like trying to predict games Sunday
to Sunday, we're throwing darts. We've always joked that it
was throwing darts. This year, I mean, your Jets beat

(10:51):
the Bills, double digit underdog. Now we're looking at Josh
allen Is injury. We'll get into that, uh in a
few minutes. But for the raven side of it, make
a couple of acquisitions. They go get ro Kwan Smith.
He's part of the rotation. Justin Houston has a huge
game tonight. You've got Jason Pierre Paul and and hopefully

(11:11):
he came off okay. But you're navigating through a bunch
of injuries and you're still six and three. That's that's
the bigger part. Last year they had so many injuries
and so many issues it was tough to overcome. Never
got right signing guys off the street to play running back.
Here Kenyan Drake, think what you will. He's had success
in other spots. Consistency has not been his friend, but

(11:32):
he's been He's shown to be a capable back at times.
And in this offense that predicates itself on being a
good running team. Right, that's the entirety of the hardball world.
Play defense. Lamar is gonna make some plays, but we're
gonna need to run the football. And and Lamar still
had what seventy plus yards running tonight, Fewer carries, more

(11:53):
efficient runs, and living to see another day. Like that's
the other thing is he's getting better. He got outside
the pocket a couple of times. You saw the defender
kind of looking like, if you take another step forward,
I'm gonna come and whack you. So what did he do?
Instead of turning it up trying to get another six inches,
reached his arm out to get the six inches that
had stepped out of bounce, didn't take the hit, got
a little friendly shove, you know, the little hands to

(12:16):
the chest whatever, but instead of taking another hit. So
all of that's being judicious. And in close games, you've
got the best kicker in the National Football League, hands down,
So I'll take my chances with what they've got early
in the season, some questioning of calls, questioning of decision making,
inability to close. Remember, those three teams are also playoff

(12:36):
teams right now. So that's the other thing to remember
in terms of games that got away. They are good
teams that they weren't able to finish off. So that'll
be part of the narrative as we get to the
end of the season we start going to the playoffs,
remember when. But also there's a lot of football that
passes in between. I'm telling you watch out for the Ravens.
Here they come. They have figured it out by just

(12:58):
doing a little bit less. Alright, they should win the
next six Shames. They should be Twe should be sitting
at twelve and three going maybe they maybe maybe the
road to the super Bowl goes through Baltimore. I mean,
that's a that's an easy scene. Jackson looking starts coming back.
I mean, remember I told you Jalen Hurts was gonna
win before the scene. He wins the first half forward. Actually, no,

(13:19):
Gino does, because Geno was the radar altogether. So Gino win.
Gino's not better than Jen Gino's. Gino's alongside Kenneth Walker
without Kenneth. But it is fun to be going into
week ten and still being able to gene. The Jets
are good, ex jets are good. This is great now,
this is fantastic. Twitter, and how about a fresca. Mike

(13:39):
gets swollen Down The Jason Smith Show with my best
friend Mike Harmon. We could talk about how complicated other
banks make it to radium credit card rewards, or we
could talk about how with Discover you can redeem rewards
for cashing any amount at anytime. I mean talk about
amazing learn more discover dot com slash redeem rewards terms
they do apply well. Coming up next, I can answer

(13:59):
the biggest NFL question of the weekend very simply, very easily.
It's coming up next right here, Jason and Mike Fox.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox Sports Radio The Chases Show with My

(14:20):
best friend Mike. That's a real sick beat behind it now, Man,
the noises you make during the show. Hey, Frostburg, has
there been a powerball drawing or they still don't have
it yet. That's gonna be no. No, they still is
so no power I still would you know not to
to go all, Hey, here's what I you know, I'm

(14:41):
I'm gonna Monday morning quarterback at right now and we're
work shopping this Frostburg entire shirt, and I like, wouldn't
you um just say you're having an issue with the
system being overloaded given the number of tickets that are
being bought, instead of owning up to any type of
security issue right away. Well, the thing is, wouldn't you
do a little misdirection until you realize there was really

(15:03):
a problem. But it's why I think it's one of
the states didn't meet the security Yeah, I think that's
what it was. It was. It wasn't like the five
ping pong balls coming out of a The ping pong
balls won't come out now, we gotta do something else different.
So again, no power ball drawing tonight because there was
some kind of security issue, and it looks like one

(15:24):
of the states didn't comply with some kind of security
issue that they needed to. So there's no so that
one point nine billion dollars. Maybe someone went off to
a ball game or a concert and didn't sign the
form they were supposed to before they left work. I
don't I don't know. There's a million different pieces of
protocol that could go under the idea of safety or security.

(15:46):
But it certainly leaves you a bit unnerved when you've
got that kind of prize, because again one point nine
billion is the top prize. A lot of other moneys
that get transacted in this process. I what my favorite
thing is because now you know, people am buying power
ball uh numbers for the past few days, like, oh
my god, it's gonna be two billion dollars. One of
the most fun things to do, because I actually did
this when I was in line of the grocery store today,

(16:08):
is there's a powerball machine. Like when they got the
machine right up front, the number of people that don't
know how to do it because they're only doing it
because it's two billion dollars. So do I put just
put cash into the machine and and and and the
power ball. So now that the supermarket has to have somebody,
they're just giving people advice as you put your cash
in here, or you put or you put your you

(16:29):
put your credit card in, I have a post dated
third party check. Can I pay for powerall? What I
would like to know, is like, say you go into
and I'm a insertain grocery store here, because they're different
in every state, uh, same companies oftentimes, but going by
different names. The larger chains. What's their percentage for tickets sold?
They are they getting taken care of big if they

(16:52):
sell the winning But I'm saying in the interim when
they're trying to process this, because they at least, you know,
if you're gonna give up manpower to uh oversee folks
trying to fat finger their way through a quick sale
on this machine, there's gotta be something for their trouble.
Do you think? I would hope because it brings people

(17:13):
into their store. I don't know if they got stuff,
but if but if they're only giving, like if they're
only coming in to buy a lottery tain, But are
you really once you're in, you're buying something else? So
I don't know, Maybe maybe you are. Yeah, you're probably
buying something that you're buying like a soda, or you're
buying chips or something you of course, because that's what vegetables.

(17:34):
Maybe some nice fresh pairs that were just being stocked
there in season now, I mean all of those things No,
you went straight for the chips. No, well do you
buy we're buying something. You're buying something now while there's
no powerball drawings time out? Wait what what what I think?
I think the numbers are in? Really, numbers are in.

(17:56):
The numbers are in. You guys want to hear them
ahead to three, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve,
th there's numbers. He just kept going. He liked to
hear himself talk, my, I saw you this one story
real fast for you get into I can, I can.

(18:17):
I got a big NFL story to get to a say.
But my grandfather, we used to play the lottery all
the time and he was always like it became a burden.
Like we would come home he would say, here, Jay, what,
here's a here's a sheet of like seven games. Pick
six numbers, but make sure they make sure they're different, right,
Like I couldn't have you know, two two games where

(18:39):
I picked where I picked like one thirteen, seventeen twenty.
So I had to pick like six seven games and
he had to look at him to make sure I
didn't have too many repeats on the numbers, right, So
you look so I'm going, oh my god, okay, pop.
Really he was insane about this. So then one time
his son and my cousin they came to visit, and

(18:59):
he's like, you know, three years old. So my grandfather says,
it would be fun if I could get the baby
to pick numbers for me. I go, I don't know
how many numbers. He knows he's three, but okay, well, okay, great,
So he says, hey, pick some numbers for me. Pick
some numbers. But maybe the kid was like four, because
he actually he's maybe he's four or five. Pick some
numbers for me between he doesn't know any numbers, and

(19:19):
at least do attle high. Right, So my grandfather sitting
there and he's got the pen in the in the
book and then all right, give me some numbers, and
and and and he goes one, twenty two, twenty three,
twenty four. You're just gonna be the same numbers all
a row. And the kid starts crying. His grandson starts
crying because he yelled at him because he just sent

(19:42):
numbers numbers. I can't play your grandpa's mike francessa. Oh,
he was great and he would always play. He was
insane because he would always play his serial number from
the army, and I go pop one, three, nine eleven.
It's never coming up. You're never go But I had

(20:07):
three digit game in Illinois. He played three five seven
for It paid out with some regularity, and then at
some point he missed a drawing and it paid out,
and he just stormed around the house cursing and muttering,
what do you want, dude? You're the one that you
go buy a week at a time. You missed today,

(20:29):
Get over it. This is like fifty numbers and pop one, three, six,
nine eleven is not that it's not coming up. You're
never gonna win. If you're giving your money, just give
me that two dollars because you're never gonna win. With
we're gonna win technically, I mean I don't have the
same There was no talking him down, that's all right,
But but just in terms of the likelihood of the

(20:51):
numbers showing up, it's the same. It's like flipping a coin.
And and I do want to say, because I have
to say this disclaimer. That was not Mike fran Sessa
reading off the powerball were not Those are not the
power ball number. No, that would have to be a

(21:12):
drawing to get number reads off the pending. There's no
right right now, there is no drawing, because there's something
which Mike Francesac counting the millions upon millions of dollars
which Aaron Judge will get this year, which I feel
good about going into the mid term tomorrow when everybody's
gonna vote all day. How powerball? Yeah, great, it's gonna
be good. Oh my goodness. Now I can answer the

(21:35):
biggest question of the NFL weekend. Okay, all right, it's
been trying, it's been attempted to be answered by a
lot of people, and they don't get it right. And
it's very simple. And it's my team, so you know,
I'm telling you what it is. Right, Jets beat the Bills.
I can't tell you how happy I am. Right, I'm
wearing my Jets hat like it's a sheriff's badge. It's
the Old West, and I'm walking into the big doors
going sheriffs here. Everybody, get out right, because that's what

(21:57):
I think of when I think of Jets. They went
a game against the Bills, and it was such a
great game, and they played so well in the second
half of the defense was phenomenal. Why are the Jets
so good despite the fact that Zack Wilson is not right.
Why they don't really run the ball all that well?
They don't, you know, because Breece Hall is hurt. They
did run it well yesterday, especially on that final drive
with Robinson and Michael Carter. But why are the Jets

(22:21):
so good? It's pretty easy. There's a minor answer and
there's a major answer. The minor answer is, you know
how good the defense is. And I told you before
the season, I don't know how good the offense is
gonna be. But I would be really surprised if the
Jets defense wasn't really good. Because now this is year
two for Robert Sala, who had a great system in
San Francisco. Play. You know, he's got like fifteen defensive

(22:41):
lockman on the roster and he likes to weave him
in and out, and he built a great defense, so
I knew he was going to build a really good defense.
He needed a year to get to get the right
personnel and right so I give him a lot of credit.
He's gone from being a guy who the game was
too much for him too. Now he could be coach
of the Year. But the major reason it's really simple,
they've beaten two good teams. No, but no, but they

(23:02):
said the best team in the NFL, which is the Bill.
So that means the Jets are the best team in
the NFL. The Bill is the best team in the NFL.
Everybody said, so they were, well they beat, we beat
and dealing with Josh Allen, uh, it's pretty easy. If
you draft early long enough, eventually you're going to get

(23:25):
it right. And the Jets got the draft wrong for
a decade, which defies logic that you could screw the draft.
You actually hired competent people into the rules to do
said drafting. It's not a matter of having those picks.
We could point to numerous iterations of squads that have
sucked for decades Jacksonville, Detroit. But eventually you would think

(23:46):
you would get it right. But when when Rex Ryan
was the coach, the Jets drafted terribly because he had
too much input and he was drafting players and made
was awful year after here where you drafted nothing but
defensive line. It was. It was terrible. The Jets did
not know how the old milk hype line. The New
York Jets have no idea what the NFL draft is
all about. And they drafted poorly for a decade. Guys
were they would have entire draft classes that were off

(24:10):
the roster entirely in two years. It was bad, but
just the last two drafts. Look at what the Jets
did in this year. Sauce Gardner, Who's gonna be the
rookie of the year in the NFL. Garrett Wilson is terrific.
Bruce Hall was one of the top three running backs
in the NFL, but he got hurt. How many touchdowns yesterday?
Jeremy It doesn't matter. We beat the Bills. It does.
Michael Carter had two doesn't matter. I don't know that

(24:32):
you're putting top three in the NFL, but that's okay.
He was playing at the top three level. What he
what he got? I like your excitement that Jermaine Johnson,
Max Mitchell. These guys were all starters, all young, really
good players. Last year it was Vera Tucker, Michael Carter,
the other Michael Carter, Zack Wilson. You're talking about getting
nine starters in a two year spend. Coach Carter came

(24:53):
into is that Linda Carter came in heyt seven the
anniversary of the Wonder Woman made for TV movie premiere.
How about that eventual knowledge Vince Carter, Vince sure Kennedy
was lying all over the place. You want to talk
about jumping over defenders and would be tackling Jimmy Carter,
all the Carters, all the Carters were regal presidentially. I mean,

(25:13):
that's what you know. You want to build something, you
can really start with Jimmy Carter. But when you come on,
that's a good joke to happen that from Yeah, it
was very good. Uh, but I want to get back
to the Jets because you know that's Jets, Jets, Jets.
But when you when you when you ace the draft, yeah,
you're gonna get good, doesn't matter you're coaching staff. When
you when you find a way finally and you get

(25:36):
enough picks, you're gonna get some of them right. And
the Jets have gotten a lot right in the last
two years. So that has accelerated their arrival time because
this was a team that potentially was a year away. Okay,
we put some people in place this year, give Zack
Wilson a year now. No, no, no, that timeline has
been moved up because the defense has gotten really good, right, away,
and they've been able to run the football despite all
the injuries on the offensive line. The Jets have been

(25:58):
really good. It's been some thing to see. But that's
all it is. It's not any it's not some secret
sauce aside. Yes, Robert Salis did a great job getting
the guys to buy in, getting the stay bought in
after they had really bad losses earlier this year. But
just those names I just gave you. These are all
not just starting players, but terrific young bench benchmark players

(26:19):
that are gonna be the next decade, should be the
lynchpins of this team. And Gardner and Garrett Wilson and
Hall and Johnson and Mitchell and Verat Tucker and Carter
and Carter Wilson, all these guys. And Wilson's like the
ninth guy on the list because he's the worst one.
But you you have fortified that defense, You've gotten game
players on you know, Elijah More was catching passes last
year and not this year. They have drafted really well.

(26:40):
That's all it is. That's all the Jets have done, right,
is that the last two years the draft has gone well.
They have starters, they have really good young players, toda.
It's not rocket science. Well, but it goes back to
the point we always make though and and in this case,
the draft was your friend. The draft isn't always your friend,
right because, like I said, you need to have a

(27:02):
GM and a team of scouts that know what the
hell they're doing. Now on the defensive side of the ball,
what I would be curious to talk about, you know,
with league officials, especially officiating heads, is to figure out
if the Robert Solace style of defense gets a little
bit of love in terms of how a game is

(27:23):
called and officiated and what I mean by that. And
it's not to throw shade at those guys. Look, you
get away with what you can, right, I would say
at my daughter's softball game, alright, softball and talking to
you soccer games. Soccer game, and a girl did a
really good job to draw a fall. It was terrible,
barely any contact and so it's one of those while
Academy Award winning kind of moments. And but her job

(27:47):
is to draw the fall and convince the ref that
she got shoved and she did it for the Jets
right now, it's to convince you that they were able
to play it clean and didn't have an arm around
the guy's back, we're holding them, weren't doing any of those,
and we could still shot stuff to death from every game.
Certainly they're due in Chicago after the loss to the Dolphins,
if not for this play, that play, the other play,
but for the Jets. Right now you've got an identity

(28:09):
and the draft's gone well, And I'll tell you what,
I'll still take Zach Wilson right. Just like everybody wanted
to throw out justin fields a couple of weeks ago,
I'm like, I don't know, let him actually be justin fields.
And they're actually letting him be justin fields for the
last five weeks. And look what you got. You got
a guy who's running around, making plays and doing exactly
what you need to when you're trying to reset a roster.

(28:30):
Play well, show hope, show promise, show where they're still
gaps in the roster, and lose because now you're into
the top ten for the draft. With the Jets, they're
taking advantage of opportunities against some teams that are down right.
The beat down of Miami happens. No to find the
Green Bay Packers stink out loud. I mean They're calling
trick plays to throw to uh an offensive lineman. That's

(28:53):
how desperate they are. And Rogers can't get the ball
over a defendant, even give that guy a chance. You
beat the Broncos, but you take advantage of what is
on the schedule. Zach Wilson doesn't have to be a
world beater. He just doesn't. He can't throw up on himself.
And right now, they've done a good job of limiting
those plays most weeks. And with enough of that run

(29:14):
game and a defense that's gonna suffocate squads, it's gonna
come down to your kicker and turnover battles going forward.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Jason Smith
Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at ten pm Eastern, seven
pm Pacific, Fox Sports Radio. That Jason Smith Show with
my best friend Mike Harmon. Uh, I don't know that

(29:35):
We're gonna have a more bizarre story in the NFL.
Then Jeff Saturday getting hired to replace Frank Reich as
head coach with the Indianapolis Colts. Frank Wreich, who was
fired earlier today. For about an hour, it was, oh,
poor Frank Reich. They give him all these bad quarterbacks.
And then oh, wait a minute, Jim Ursay decides not
part of that decision making process. And then or is

(29:58):
that just Chris Ballard super genius. I don't know that
Chris Ballot has anybody. I think this is a Jim
Rcy special. You want to talk about a guy that
gets nine lives. But anyway, keep going. So after the
dismissal of Frank Reich, Jim Ersay announces that former Colts
offensive lineman Jeff Saturday one of the most respected players
in team history. So I will say that back for

(30:19):
all the Hall of Fame stuff and whatever else they do,
ring ring of honor kind of thing. Was hired to
be the new head coach. He has never coached above
the high school level. He coached a JV team for
the last couple of years. He's been broad when they
weren't winning games. Now, uh, and he becomes the head
coach of the Indianapolis Colts right he was broadcasting free ESPN.

(30:42):
He said he was surprised when he got the phone call.
He wasn't trying to be a coach, because if he was,
he would have been coaching and coaching somewhere. Wait, I'm
getting a phone call. Now there's a lot wrong with this,
but this makes me think that, hey, if the Jets
are Mets, start listening to the show, maybe I can
be the head coacher manager one day. He would like

(31:03):
people in the media. They like people in the media.
Maybe maybe Steve Colia. This guy knows what he's doing.
He's gonna be my outside the box manager. You can
always throw up some some flares. I mean, we start
tagging the Mets and Jets on everything right really and
promote and things posts and start sending two letters a
day like you do frayin at Shaw Shank. Let me call.

(31:26):
Let me call a former team legend and see if
he well, because you know, the first call was Andrew Luck.
Hey Andrew, because you know, Jim Mercy calls Andrew Luck
like every two months, Hey, how you doing around the building?
Back he comes and hangs out, and we called Luck.
He called Peyton, he called Eli. I'm sure he called

(31:47):
Marvin Harrison, he called Reggie Wayne. Reggie Way is on
the staff. That was the thing, Like, that's the part,
that's the curiosity. You've got a couple of guys that
are former head coaches, but you have several players that
were longtime colts. Cato June's on the step like there's
a couple of guys, Reggie Way and you're receiving receiver. Coach.

(32:08):
This is why owners should own a team, because you
make a decision like this, and it's a slap in
the face of every coach that But that's the biggest
point I think in this is that it's every coach. Yes,
it's every anybody that's dedicated their life to doing this.
Jeff Saturday can show up. Hey, I'm feeling good, I
got an expensive suit on. I'm gonna do talk about

(32:28):
some football for a few minutes. I'm gonna run down
meeting now the coach of the Cults. But it's like,
as much as we want to elevate it to be
another business, it's like any other business. If you're signing
the checks, you hire who the hell you want. You
may not like it, and you can talk about the
systems and where there's inequities, and we can all stipulate

(32:49):
that that is absolutely true. In this case. I think
he's a guy that that ers loved, and we gotta
get some of these sound for the final hour, like
the sausage being made and some of the other great
quotes that he had. But the idea that you you
bring in Saturday as a guy you love, whatever he's
respected memory community and he's not. And he didn't categorically

(33:13):
rule it out. But you know, you basically have a
guy who's your watchdog in the locker room. Now you
don't have a play caller. You're gonna basically draw straws
for that. But when it comes down to it, this
is the guy you know, you trust, you love, who
played for your squad and you decided to elevate him
the head coach. Now, if i'nd a coach in that system,
maybe maybe not John Fox or whatever, you just gotta

(33:35):
shrug and laugh Pat McAfee. But the rest of these
guys you're saying, and I'm gonna curse, and I'm gonna
wear sleeveless, I'm gonna I'm gonna be a mikep and
I'm gonna curse all the way through. But but the
idea just being that you wanted a guy you know,
you like that did well by your organization, has been

(33:56):
a great rep for your organization, and you decide to
elevate him. That happens in every business across America every
day those kind of decisions. This just happens to have
multi billion dollar franchises attached, as well as the publicity
and the public adoration of the league team and the

(34:18):
scrutiny of what they're doing. And is it right? I mean,
you can decide for yourselves. To me, it's he decided
to hire this coach. It doesn't go into the Rooney
rule because it's an interim higher so for if he
wants to hire them full time, yes, they still have
to go through that and we can have all the
discussions and arguments about the rule, its application and whether

(34:40):
it works or not. But in this particular case, if
I'm a coach in general, I'm pissed, whether I'm on
the Colts staff or I'm just a coach in general
that this happens. But here's the thing. Go on a
team twitter at, how about a friend with McConaughey, Mike
swollen Dollar. I mean, it's it's so this is so dysfunctional.
I don't even know where to start. It's so over

(35:01):
the top. It's what do you know? That's the start though,
But like, but that's just it. It owned That's why
it's funny because I can tie it to what's going
on with Washington of you got McConaughey and others that
want to own the team, So it lends itself to
movie making right there. So we'll have more on this
story coming up next, other big stuff out of the NFL,
and what I've been wanting to do all day from

(35:22):
the tirect dot com studios. How would Berman announced Jeff's Saturday?
Because next head coach Fox
