Girls don't like him because it looks different. It's Jason Sman,
Mike Harmon. I'm out of here. It's got a colorless
feather jacket. Tobio. This is the Jason Smith Show with
(00:45):
Mike Harman, live from the tai Iraq dot com studios

and Mike Harman. Here's party, span your at Chris play, Oh,
let's go Steak and Genius Let's go? Oh No, where's Artie?
Where's the steak and genius? At? Is he not? Youre
(01:08):
any big boy? Sorry? I was finishing. I have I'm
enjoy and snickers all right next to me. So I'm
just keeping everything in perspective. Here, what an interesting mix
Alm Enjoy and Snickers. Well, that's what I had to
pull out of my little mix of candy. I really
didn't have time to search. I I put back the
hundred thousand dollar Grand bar Can. Yeah, and I didn't
(01:32):
um I like the Twix, so I did dug some
of those out. But I can't find out anybody having
candy at this hour left over from Halloween. So you're
celebrating everything like thirty days later. It's like, I'll get
the rest of this Halloween candy right before Thanksgiving. I
gotta I, I gotta stay up. I need to get
some sugar bowl. I'm starting to think about this. Since
(01:54):
we've been together for like ten years. Should we start
putting like our show on YouTube or book lives so
people can watch us as we do the show or
what well? As we come to you Alive from the
tire Rock dot Com studio. No, no, no, I want
to answer. I want to make sure I get all
the sponsor reason Benson mad at Me or our TI
shirt to just strike me down TI shirt called the
(02:16):
japan Upset. We're coming to you Alive for the time. Okay,
We're coming to live with the tire rack dot Com studios.
Tire rack dot com will help you get there and
unmatch a selection, fast free shipping, free road hazard protection
and over ten thou recommended installers. Tire rack dot com
the way tire buying should be Now. I revolt against
(02:37):
the radio on YouTube or TV, and let me tell
you why. For me personally, Number one, I don't like
watching it, right, I like listening to it. Everyone has
their own nuances, like weird glazes at the camera, uncomfortable
hand gestures. I don't want to put us on YouTube, Arnie,
because I hate looking at myself when I do TV,
(02:59):
and I'm I'm kind of a spastic person to begin with.
My hands are always moving, I'm up and I'm down.
I mean, I can't have you seeing me take bong
rips whenever, right should? We're joking, but no, I don't
know what what what brought this up to think that
should be on YouTube? Because I mean, obviously, you know,
for for a long time, I'm I'm a very good
looking guy. You're very handful man, that's right. If you haven't,
(03:21):
you're flaunted. So I just thought that maybe people would
like to watch us as we do this show just
an idea, just like you know. I look, it's not
like I'm not wearing a shirt or anything, but I
can go shirt. Listen if you have to write, if
the ladies wanted, We've got to do what needs to
be done exactly for you know, for the audience. I'll
do what I have to do. Well, listen, we're back
together on Friday night. Maybe we start laying the groundwork
(03:43):
to see if that's something we can't get done, you
know what, it might take a little bit more time. Yeah,
I don't want to put any effort into this. Don't
make me do anything. And I just I just thought
I throw it out there. Please at stakes giving. Don't
make me do anything more than I have though. Well,
let's be very clear. It is it is a holiday
week in I guess you can say. And it starts tonight.
We're pumped to be here for Jason and my party
night of the year. Everybody, it is, well, but it's
(04:08):
for ok okay, let's let's start there. It's it's a
party night. But it's like for college kids. Yeah, that's
you after you turned twenty three or twenty four and
you start your career in your life you know, great,
but I mean, at some point you're Matthew McConney hanging
around the high school going all rudd al rout Alright,
you move on with your life, you grow up, you
(04:29):
go hang out with adult friends. You don't be bar
hopping and trying to act like you're a cool kid. Literally,
it's for college kids, for goodness sakes that it's the
biggest weekend of the year, right exactly to a fraternity
party after the show. Hey, you we've been you know,
after the show're gonna be hitting the pie Gamma House
and um gonna have a big party tonight. So you know,
(04:49):
party night, arty, party night. And as as I was
just thinking about this, dotting the eyes and crossing the
tease of adding the video element, everyone kind of checks
out after today, right, So we couldn't get that done
by Friday. If we wanted, we would have. There's nobody working.
Nobody worked this whole week anyway, there's nobody working this
whole week. I I love this week and I hate
(05:09):
this week. I think we talked about this on our
Sunday night show, where you can regularly catch Arnie and
I on Fox Sports Radio from tin p to one
a central time, we get that bonus hour here tonight.
I love this week because I love Thanksgiving. As a
fat kid, I love Thanksgiving. I love being around my family.
I love seeing my kiddos and spend an extra time
(05:29):
with them. I love I love Thanksgiving. But I also
hate this week, Arnie, because it's the last regular season
week of one of my great loves, and that's college football.
This this double edged sword where, yeah, I know the
playoffs are coming, the bowl games are coming, but I
feel like it was just yesterday. Whenever you're looking at
(05:50):
the preseason poll and the fresh projections and rankings and ratings,
you're like, Okay, this team might be good. How can
this team not be rated? Who's the unranked team that's
gonna end up in this mix? Who's the ranked team
that's going to implode? And now, all of a sudden,
here we are with one regular season game to go
and literally a conference championship weekend that's gonna be I
(06:12):
think litterally with some interesting matchups. We'll see how things
play out for Kansas State on Saturday, and obviously if
if Clemson can get back in this mix. But from
sad Arty, I'm gonna stuff myself and and and and
chill out and then just be depressed. Yeah, we got NFL.
Don't get me wrong, We've got a stretch run for
the NFL season. But well, sad that are Saturdays are
are pretty much gone. First of all, a couple of
(06:34):
things on that. First of all, as to Thanksgiving, I'm
I'm not a turkey guy. I know, I'll I'll eat
the turkey just to be social and drown it and
as much gravy as I can. But I'm I'm all
about the stuffing. I'll have a stuffing sandwich so terrible
for you. I know that I'll load up on the
starches and what what can I do? But I mean,
I'll put a little bit of turkey in there just
to pretend like I'm eating at Turkey's that, which wouldn't really.
(06:55):
It's all about the stuffing, so I likely you know.
And and I my mother in law used to make
stuff and you put like apples and the like a lois.
It's not a fruit salad. Man. Come on, now, let's
leave out the apples and the grapes and stuff like that,
and let's keep it really simple. And uh and and
and and by the way, the best stuffing is the
one that comes from inside the turkey. You know that,
don't but then't that how that's turkey? So how can
(07:20):
you like it now? You put your stuff to turkey
with stuff, Yeah, that's that's the best stuff. And also
you know, Saind you're brought up the college football and
that we're so late and and it's pretty much you
know what makes it even worse Chris about the college football.
This used to be a great time of the year
UM rivalry weekend. I mean it was like probably perhaps
my favorite time of the year, even more so than
(07:41):
bowl games. And I think we've kind of lost our
luster or lost its luster um on on these rivalry weekends.
It doesn't feel like we used to get pumped up
for U C A U s C. And you know
for that last Saturday, you're not pumped up for Ohio
State Michigan Saturday. I am pumped up, but it just
gets the national like it used to when we go here.
(08:04):
We we know what happened that, you know, when we
go to the Rose Bowl or something. Even the Auburn
now ABATMA game doesn't seem as big as it used
to be. Or my am I wrong on that, cor
I'll push back a little. I don't want to fight
you tonight. Nobody go to it. I'm so happy we
get to hang out on a Wednesday, and I'm pumped
to do this show with you. But you couldn't be
more wrong. Well, let me just say that the reason
it could be takeaway it's slusters because we know that
(08:26):
there's a four team playoffs, and then once the twelve
team playoff comes around, I really feel like these games
are not almost meaningless but really lost. It's luster because
nobody's gonna know where they're going after that game. But
go ahead, you were gonna Isn't it great for the unknown? Though? Okay,
let me push back on But al right, it's already
in Plank sitting in for Jason Smith in my Carmen.
(08:47):
First of all, I don't know if there's been as
big of an Ohio State Michigan game as we've had.
The winner essentially has locked himselfs into the playoffs, and
some might say, well, I when it gets to twelve teams,
well the loser loser is gonna get into. Okay, the
loser of it might still get in with four teams.
You know, it's just that's how good both of these
(09:09):
teams have been this year. But you're right, if there
was twelve maybe, But also then you find out do
you fall to a point where you get to host
a playoff game at home? And I'm telling you I'd
be all about a playoff game and a harbor. I
still think there's debates to be had, like a pinn
State team suddenly enters the conversation in a twelve team playoff.
(09:30):
Maybe if Kansas State UH wins on Saturday and then
beats at TCU, they that's that's to get into the playoff.
That's not as much as the rivalry about it. You
know what I'm saying. But what I mean you're you're
mad because you want great rivalries every Saturday. You're the
reason that college football all right, not just college playoff expansion,
but you're the reason at conference realignment has taken place
(09:53):
because you want to banger every week and it's about
entertainment absolutely, So you can't complain about conferen It's realignment
because they're realigning and ways to make sure you get
those matches every single weekend. And here's part of the problem.
You're upset because these rivalries are doing it for you.
We've almost cussed on the air again today, Alex. We've
asked all over rivalries in college football, to the point
(10:16):
where the game you probably watched on the Friday growing
up Artie anymore, Oklahoma Nebraska play each other anymore outside.
So I I completely understand what you're saying. But if
you're gonna try to tell me that Ohio State in
Michigan doesn't have that juice this year, I completely disagree.
I think it's huge. I mean, even before we were
(10:37):
college football fans, the biggest rivalries are we don't even
think about it anymore, like Army Navy or stuff like that.
Those those us when my dad used to watch college
that was the biggest thing was was rivalries like that.
Look how that is kind of you know, taking second
seed and and stuff like that. Eventually, you know, things
kind of slide on that. I think that's eventually what's
(10:57):
gonna happen now, you know, offense, But neither Army nor
Nami have factored into the national championship pictures since your
dad was a kid, um and you watched. So this
weekend is the final regular season weekend. Next weekend his
conference championship weekend. But then Arnie that following weekend, which
would be what like the eleventh Army Navy is the
only game, and so it gets all of our attention.
(11:20):
But I completely understand. I know that I'm probably losing
a fight and trying to sell everyone my excitement. I'm
sitting there and watching that that well, I can't watch
because I can't stand it. But I'm I'm I've got
the playoff. Uh. I got the audio on from the
playoffs selection show last night. I'm kind of listening to everything.
I went and listened to Boot Carrington's post presser and
(11:41):
it's just it's funny. It's to me, it's it's hilarious,
and they constantly contradict themselves and nothing makes sense. And
in my mind, I'm like, just get us to twelve
for goodness sakes. So to me, and I love college football.
I live college football. It's my nine to five. You
had me at all. Here's the week zero. You know
you were mad about matchups, and I completely understand. I
(12:03):
was all over Nebraska Northwestern and my fat ass was
staying up to watch like the Mexico State in Utah States.
So I understand that you know you had me at
college football kicking off the people like somebody for somebody
like you and whoever went the Mississippi and Mississippi State right,
who's gambling on it? Right? A fan who wants to
be excited about Lane Kiff and coming in. But I
(12:24):
realized that you you need big time matchups every weekend
in college football since and I'm not your team stinks, right,
Arizona is not very good. So when your team is
not good, you're not as engaged and you want to
see when Alabama is good. You want to see Alabama Georgia.
You want to see Alabama ls. You want Ohio State
in Michigan every week, and you went Oaklahoma Texas when
they're good every week, and you don't have time for
(12:45):
this team that wears purple and is undefeated from the
Big twelve. I understand, I get, but you know what, Chris,
Another thing is that it's is it would seem like
the rivalry Reek it was all on just one weekend,
or maybe at least I thought it was. That you
get like fifteen, that's twenty. Now it's spread up over
to three weekends, um, and it's not really on one
designated weekend. Maybe that's another thing. As welcome to a
new era of college football team exactly. I mean, here
(13:08):
I am. I'm preparing for a trip to freaking Lubbock
on Friday, no offense, lovick, I love. You can't wait
to get there. But typically that final regular season game
and the season for Oklahoma was battle and now they
just it's like the Big twelve says, oh, let's move
this thing around. So it kind of takes away from that. Yeah, no,
you're right, we've seen games and matchups move around on
the schedule. They're they're trying to sell you on Texas
(13:31):
A and m L. S U is this big time
rivalry that will always be played on the Friday of
our the weekend of Thanksgiving, And you're like, yeah, we're
They're they're trying to generate things that to me just
aren't there yet. And it's fine, you know, it's part
of the process. I'm gonna watch it. They've got me,
but we'll see how it works long term. Because there's
(13:51):
dare I say, traditionalists like you aren't that kind of
yearned for those days whenever maybe everything was a little
bit more centralized. They gotta spread it out. Now, they've
got to try to get your attention from week nine
on and make sure that you're locked in beyond just
say one week in a year. Well, when you brought
up Oklahoma and Nebraska, that brought out the memories, my friend,
you know what I mean exactly and the days I
mean those were And again I didn't care who won
(14:14):
those games. I wasn't gambling on those games. But you're watched.
Maybe it was we had so little options on TV
that would watch everything, and those were usually the games
that we're on. You know, yeah, no, you're right. And again,
now if a game isn't on TV, there's something wrong. Time.
So I I I had, I'm not a gambler. I'm
trying to learn how to be right. And it's because
it's all in your face and apparently that's the future.
(14:36):
So if you're not gambling, you're not good at life,
is what I've learned in sports radio. But so I
was in a pit competition and I had I had
a Hawaii Colorado State game and I couldn't find it anywhere,
and you know where I finally found it. It was
on pay per view somewhere. I mean, it's just if
you can't find a game on TV, there's something wrong,
so I'm sure already that's part of it too. But listen,
(14:56):
we'll get to all things college football tonight because Breakings
came out. Our buddy Bob Benson, who's producing the show tonight,
he went and got his Pete fu Tech for the program,
and while we were on the air, I think Monday
night here on Fox Sports Radio USC started it's Heisman
push for Caleb Williams. And I'm not gonna lie to you, Arnie. Uh,
it's really hard for me not to have him at
(15:18):
the top of my ballot right now. It is really hard.
I'm telling you. Hinton Hooker is still in the mix
even with this torn a c L. I think c J.
Stroud is there. And listen to the kid at TCU,
Max Duggan has had a heck of a season. But
we'll talk Heisman and all things college football coming up
later in the in the Big Show. But Pete fu
Tech next hour and later this hour, your beloved Dallas Cowboys,
(15:39):
aren't you what's going on with your beloved Cowboys? Why
is it my beloved Cowboys? And and by the way,
I'm starting to think that the Cowboys, uh, and the
Dolphins in the Super Bowl when I go ahead and
go see to the super Bowl this year, I'm sort
of think that might be the matchup. When did you
do this one eighty? I mean I kind of said
that tongue in cheek, but you're being serious, being serious.
(16:01):
I mean they were so expensive last game. Um, how
could you not be? Why do I feel like they're
gonna get Oldell Beckham Jr. I'm just getting the feeling
that Jerry's gonna pull it off and get Oldell and
that's gonna be the one missing piece that they needed. Well,
I'm waiting for it. I'm waiting for it. You can
you can drop it any moment you want. Said after
(16:21):
that from what I said, I thought it was gonna
be after Thanksgiving. Right. Well, but you can even go
back to last year. You were having a big Odell
Beckham Junior needs to go to the Cowboys. Aell Beckham Jr.
Should sign with Dallas, and you and I went back
and forth, and I'm like, no, no, no, no, he
doesn't need to go to the Cowboys. And Cowboys are
find it receiver a year now. Again, you're a year
off on some of these predictions. Well, I'm ahead of
(16:43):
everybody in the curve. They said Einstein was an idiot,
So there you go. But Artie was a year ahead
of Odell Beckham junior to Dallas, So we'll talk about
that coming up next. Be sure to catch live editions
of The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon weekdays at
ten pm Eastern, seven pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
and the I Heart Radio app. Pete, does Clemson have
(17:04):
a beef with the way things went with the rankings
last night? Oh? Do we happy? Pete? Pete fe Tack
in the house. I'm here your question. I'm sorry, I
don't know you were coming. What I thought? You do?
Good Man? Good does? Uh? Yeah, great to talk to you,
obviously after an exciting uh Tuesday night? Is it typically
is in the college football world? Okay? I was asking
(17:26):
Clemson fans are fired up? Do they have a beef
with where they are in the rankings? No? I mean
not yet, as I have to keep seeing. But it's
all playoff. Let's see what goes on and let's see
what happens until proven otherwise, if you go twelve and
one and you win the five conference championship, you're in.
It's only happened once or a team hasn't been in
(17:48):
after doing that, and that was two thousand and eighteen
when there's a twelve and no number game that had
to go in. So just let's just wait and see.
Because for Clemson it doesn't matter where you are right
now because Tennessee getting that was massive. Assume that l
s U is not going to beat Georgia for the
SEC championship. Assume the USC is probably gonna lose once
(18:09):
and if that happens, Clemson's probably in pete. How do
we keep tc other than them losing? How do we
keep TCU out of the four team playoff? Because America
doesn't want to see forty three and then you playoff.
But no, if if they go thir KENO, there is
no matter, what doesn't matter, no chance that they're left out.
If they go thir KENO, they're absolutely a no chance
(18:32):
the committee leaves out an unbeaten post conference champion. But look,
they're playing, they're finding a way to win. They're not,
you know, always pretty there. Every game's close. They're playing
in a mediocre Big twelve, but they're getting it done.
So if they go thir tn O, they're in. If
they go twelve and one then it gets debatable because
if it comes down to, let's say, the one thing
(18:52):
we have yet to have in the college football playoffs
era is a real massive upset in the conference championships.
I mean there's been a couple of minor ones here
and there, but we haven't had like, you know, Northwestern
beating Ohio State or anything like that. So, uh, let's
do if everything goes shocked and let's say TC goes
twelve and one, but they loose the Iowa State this
(19:14):
weekend when the Big Ten Championship, they're still in it.
If they go twelve and one and that loss is
the Big twelve Championship, that's going to be a problem.
Considering Compston's probably going to win the a CEC title.
That's two USC does because again, remember, after all this
stuff that's going on, when it comes to the committee,
there's they've said from the start, did you win your
Power five conference championship? And they're gonna look at that first. Yeah.
(19:37):
I agree. I found it funny that today a lot
of the debate shows spent time debating L s U
and USC, and I kind of thought to myself, that's
not really the debate because if L S U wins Pete.
They're in there is the debate would be like one
loss Georgia and USC right now, Well, here it's the problem.
(19:58):
We have one, we have yet to have a two
power of things. And secondly, everyone's been kind of blown
off they got rocked at home. We have yet to
have that, like, we have yet to have the team
that that's kind of really was the nail and m
coffin for Ohio State in two thousand eighteen when it
(20:20):
came to the debate twelve and one our states Big
ten champion over Notre Dame, it was well they you know,
they struggled against Perdue and that wasn't even as bad
as the lost. So that seems to have been blown
off a little bit. And it's also getting blown off
that they did actually lose the Florida State in what
really was kind of a home game and closing beat
(20:41):
Florida State, So I am not there. Now here's the problem.
The if USC beat Notre Dame. The committee, while they
don't do it like this, they don't think like hypotheticals
and all that stuff, but they had better give some
credit to USC and them ahead of l s U.
(21:02):
If they beat Notre Dame because if they don't in
the penultimate ranking, if USC isn't the head of L
s U, if they beat Murder Dame, then they have
absolutely zero, uh theoretical standing if l s U beat Georgia,
because at that point USC can't leap frog L s
U because everything else is already baked in the cake
(21:23):
and it's not like beating Georgia is going to be
anything less than the best win of the season. So
the big thing to look at with next week's rankings
if USC beat nur Dame is does that when they
leap frog L s U. If not, then yeah, if
ALL beats Georgia, they're gonna put them. They're gonna have
to put them in or they're gonna have to answer
about how messed up their past rankings were. Is Michigan
(21:46):
really a seven a half point dog to Ohio State
and what happens to the loser of that Michigan Ohio
State game. It's gonna I would have to think out.
I mean, it's gonna be way too I mean, Michigan's
death really out. If it loses, it's gonna have to
take something really crazy because they just don't have any
other good wins I mean within Penn States and Nights win,
(22:07):
but that's it. I mean they're non conference schedule of
what Colorado State, Dukon and Hawaii. I mean, I think
you're crazy not to have that schedule if you're a
polarified team. But this is where it could cost them
because they just don't have anything on the resume to
not comm in in what Ohio State's got the win
over notre name that would matter. But if they lose
and you have a one loss, let's say you have
(22:29):
a SEC champion, and you have USC wins the Pack
twelve title and with one loss, and let's say TCU
wins the Big twelve championship and it at least twelve
and one. I mean it comes into twelve and one,
and honest, it's out. So to me, actually forgive me,
if the Big ten champion would be in so honestly
(22:49):
would be out in this whole mix. So yeah, this
is this is probably an elimination game for that. It
should be because you know, look, neither one of them
has really had that made great wins this year. So
it's yeah, selling out Pe. You had something like right
on the head p FU Tech with US College Football
News dot Com. We really haven't had that Holy s
(23:10):
moment in the conference championship games, and you know, I
guess we gotta go all the way back to like
what Texas A and M beating Kansas State in an
old Big twelve championship game. I don't know if we'll
get it this year, but you know, it's it really
can only do negatives for the Pack twelve and the
A C C at the Big twelve, which is wild.
Right now? Are you going? You're going way back in Actually,
(23:33):
if you remember, I believe that was like the wackiest
weekend ever because that was where Miami and at U
c l A had to play because the hurricane postponed,
and that's where Eduard and James went off for like
hundred yards mc SO U c l A was knocked
out and then they and then Kansas State saw that
and started celebrating in Texas A and M K back
(23:55):
in one and then Tennessee one, and then they ended
up going on to the BCF Championship. There's been a
few since then, but not in the College Football Playoff era.
Last year, it would have been fun had Oklahoma State
gone that extra six inches and gotten in against Baylor.
There would have been a really wild fight of Oklahoma
State Big twelve champion versus undefeated Cincinnati for that fourth spot.
(24:16):
But we're right, we just haven't had that yet. So
you know, I don't know where we get that this year.
I don't know if you know, Iowa certainly doesn't look
like it's going to be capable of winning a big
time championship. Uh l s U over Georgia would be
the whopper. Um Kansas State over Teeth You, I don't
think would be that big a crazy call. Uh In
(24:37):
North Carolino wconsin. I guess you know. Noman's loving clinched.
So there really isn't one this year that could really
change everything, except if I were were to stay beat
Ohio State. You know, we talked about this earlier as
Rivalry Weekend lost its lobster. And the reason I bring
that up is, I mean you talked about how it's
elimination game for like Michigan, Ohio State Ian We used
(24:57):
to enjoy so many great robberies the Oklahoma Nebraskas and
stuff like that. Here's Auburn Alabama kind of coming in
under the radar because winner doesn't go to the four
team playoff and that that to me is like one
of the top three robberies out there. Nobody's banned attention. Yeah,
but it always is like that. And see that's where
we kind of forget that every everyone romanticizes the rivalries,
(25:18):
but especially Auburn Alabama. That's that's a huge deal there,
but nationally not really, you know, not unless it matters.
It's just it's just not not compared to Michigan, Ohio State,
not compared to you know, even notreed in USC. I
think is actually going to be you know, at least
a little bigger on a national scale just because of that.
But look, rivalries on riveries always matter for the fans themselves,
(25:42):
like that's always gonna be the big deal. But on
a national scale, unless it doesn't mean something, you know,
it doesn't mean something. Well that doesn't really you know,
make that much of a difference because the rest of
the world of bother and beat Alabama or vice versa.
But these games are just more intense, you know, everyone
cares a little more. So it's still fun. Beat before
we let you go. Coaching carousel craziness with a transfer
(26:05):
of port Old December five is gonna be a wild
day when it truly opens up, and we expect mass chaos.
But do we expect a change in college station? Will
they will they bite the bullet and and go ahead
and move on? Or if you think Jimbo Fisher gets
another year, because to me, that's the big story in
(26:26):
coaching right now, right it has to be. But he
brought in the greatest recruiting class technically of all time.
Lest you got to give him like one more shot here.
Uh yeah, I mean I don't know. The big story
obviously is you know the Lane Kiff and the Auburn
potential thing, which I don't know why in the world
he would do that and beat your head against that
(26:46):
against the wall. To me, in the coaching carousel, I
think the hidden gym and all this, And they're not
a state because you've got, first of all, in an
i OL world, you've got one of the seventh largest
media market in the country maybe six. You've got the
big city atmosphere for this that can be a pro
like session setting for this. You've got the recruiting territory
(27:07):
of southern California, and you don't have to deal with
Alabama on l s U Georgia, and you know you've
got to place there and in a group that saying, hey,
we're going to make sure that this this program is
rock and rolling. There the administration is gonna be absolutely
and on this. So I think there's going to state
the plumb job at all this. And but you know, look,
(27:28):
Auburn's gonna throw a jillion dollars that whoever they can get,
and they're gonna get someone big if it's not killing

Carmen and me Dan Buyer on the I Heart Radio app,

late with us. He's watching all the college basketball. But Bernie,
before the break on, he got us going on tom
(28:35):
Brady's future. Where would you put the odds on favorite
for tom Brady's services right now? In you think he's
back with the Bucks? I do, uh? And Vegas doesn't
put up those types of eyes even in far away places.
There's nothing we know. He's a free agent. But you're
gonna see Tampa bayy bound get back in the playoffs
and make a run. And Giselle just bought a new crib.
(28:58):
I guess a couple of blocks away from him there
in Tampa. So I think he's back in Tampa. Bernie,
we got some Thanksgiving games. First. One, let me ask you,
like Bills Lions, do you have to pay a premium
to take the Lions? Do they get like an extra
half point because it's Thanksgiving? And you know, the Padges
pageantry of it all, or that makes no difference whatsoever.
Now that doesn't really make any difference. Uh, it still
(29:19):
comes down to power ratings. And you know, the Lions
are three and eleven against the spread as a dog
during Thanksgiving two thousand and four, but they've covered their
last three straight. This is a really tough game to
handicap because Buffalo has that wonky travel situation. They played
that game against Minnesota completely emptied the tank, all kinds
of emotion left on the field. Then they have that
(29:41):
you know, nice summer day in Buffalo, what they have
like six ft of snow, and they finally make it
to Detroit to play a game, and now they're playing
their second game in Detroit, same stadium, five days later,
and they didn't stay in Detroit, so they're going back
and forth. Buffalo's got a ton of injuries and Josh Allen,
I'm told they're not gonna let him run a lot
tomorrow because it could hurt his elbow. The bottom line
(30:03):
is you're getting to bundle of points here with Detroit.
And I would say this that that I think is
where the value lies. Detroit's offense is pretty good, it's sixth,
Buffalo's offenses fifth. The reason I don't think Detroit co
went out right number one rule in handicapping you look
for strength versus weakness. The Lions defense still only ranks
(30:23):
thirty one and Buffaloes defense ranks fifth, so you get
a fast track. I think you're gonna see a competitive game.
Both teams will get their points. Buffalo's got their injuries
as well, but I think actually the Lions hang around.
They've played some gutsy games and had one, you know,
score losses against Philadelphia and Miami and some of the
upper echelon team, So I think it might be a
competitive game. But Bernie, you spend a lot of time
(30:47):
in Detroit, you understand. Uh, we all know the history
of the why behind the Thanksgiving Day game, but how
was it embraced to that community and how big of
a deal to become for that franchise to play on Thanksgiving.
It's huge. It's a great source surpride. I covered ten
of the games myself to two thousand and eight. It's
a lot of fun. Uh, it's a great tradition. And you, Chris,
(31:08):
you know about the history. Guy named George Richards who
owned the Lions. Back in nineteen thirty four, all he
wanted to do was boost at tenants. He said, let's
have a Thanksgiving game. He did it. He did something
very shrewd. He sold the rights to NBC and they
broadcasted at ninety stations on the radio nationwide. And the
rest of his history. It's been a Detroit tradition since
nineteen thirty four. Then Dallas jumped on board, you know,
(31:31):
about thirty five, forty years ago. No, it's a huge
source of pride. It's appointment watching Detroitter's planned their their
day around that, and it's it's terrific. The Lions haven't
farewell on Thanksgiving, we all get that. But in terms
of the pomp and circumstance and the pride, it's a
civic thing that the detroitters really, uh really enjoy. Bernie.
(31:51):
Maybe they'll be talking about you gamblers out there in Vegas,
because we all know you guys have like a pick
of the month, the pick of the year. I gotta
pick of the decade. I love of the Vikings over
the Patriots lay in the two and a half. I
think the Vikings were embarrassed last week. I think they
have too much offense for the Patriots. I think they
win this by three touchdowns. What do you do? What?
What dictates when you have like the pick of the year,
(32:13):
the pick of the decade? Uh? And then your fellow
gamblers go up insite that we like to have the
side Bertie. I mean what goes into that thinking? A
lot to unpack there, my man. So first of all,
I'll be happy to take if you want to give
you Belichick and there is no such things. And the
pick of the decade to pick of the year. Just
(32:33):
ask Argentina for crandic. Uh. Look as far as that game,
I do think the Vikings are the side. Uh. One
staple has been when a team is severely embarrassed the
following week, they typically rebound nicely. But this game could
be a bit of a tussa. There's a couple of
(32:54):
bothersome things about the Vikings. Last week, as you guys saw,
they were two point underdogs at home and people, how
could they be underdogs? Well, look, first of all, they
were coming off that you know game at Buffalo where
they left a lot on the field, empty the tank.
But the Vikings as an eight and one team, we're
making history in two areas one. Their point differential was
(33:15):
only plus thirty five cumulatively on the year, that was
good for like eleventh in the NFL. And their yard
differential was minus two twenty nine. That was twenty six
in the NFL by a thing called the Pythagorean theorem.
The Vikings were really a five and four team dressed
up as an eight and one team, so there's some concern.
Now the Vikings at eight and two have a negative
(33:35):
point differential of minus two. That's never happened in the
history of the National Football so they're very much an
underperforming team by the numbers. I look for Belichick to
put Justin Jefferson in a vice. I never really trust
Kirk Cousins. He got sacked seven times last week. So
Belichick comes to an eight gap pressure. This could be
a nice little wrestling match, But I do think Minnesota
(33:58):
is decide that wo that would be the and I
would my pick of the decade, My pick of the decade, Bernie.
We don't need to play the game there, Bernie. I
wish you were co hosting the show. Listen. I don't
I know you're gonna be on if you're filling in
for Bed Thursday night into Friday, and you got your
shows over the weekend, so you're gonna get plenty of
time to talk about this. But I want to pick
(34:19):
your brain now. Anything really jumping out at you on
the college slate? A lot of big numbers. Man, that
that massive number in Vandy, Tennessee is interesting. There's that
big double digit number. Well, I guess it's down to
a little bit. It was. It was, I think much
higher in some places I thought it would than it
would be. But what USC is at like six five
and a half. But there's some interesting numbers with some
(34:40):
big favorites in college football. Anything really catching your eye.
I do like Notre Dame in the points didn't Yes? Uh?
I love USC, But that defense couldn't stop a nose lead.
So I think that this is where Notre Dame lives
in these high LEVELAE situations. Look what they did to Clemson.
I'll tell you there's a thing if you'll notice old
top four teams last week, Ohio State, TCU, UH, Michigan
(35:06):
and Georgia were all favorites. None of them covered. There's
a thing in college football called the nerves are tightening.
When you get after Week nine and you're undefeated and
you are a favorite, you're only covering about forty one
percent of the time, and if you're a home favorite,
you're only covering about thirty seven percent of the time.
Be that as it may. I think Ohio State covers
against Michigan, But the rest of these games are gonna
(35:28):
be very interesting, and I don't think you can fade
TCU at this point. I am so impressed with what
Sunny Dikes has done in every high LEVELAE situation. Last week,
Max Duggan on his own ten yard line without two
of us offensive stars. They go ninety yards. Then it
turns out they practice that Chinese fire deal in sixteen
seconds that you know, Mike McCarthy take notes, my friend,
That's how it's done. The bottom line is, I think
(35:50):
you look to the dogs this weekend because you're dealing
with nineteen twenty year old kids that no la where
the world is on their shoulders and everything that's at stake,
and there's really no mark in air unless you're Georgia.
You know it's in the Bible, and you're in sec
You can lose two or three or four games, don't
make the championship, right. The bottom line is that everybody
else has the way of the world on her shoulders.
I'll be looking to the dogs except for the Ohio
(36:12):
State game. I think Michigan's past defensive suspect and they
can't do anything vertically in their passing game. I believe
Blake Corn will play, but regardless, Ohio State remembers what
happened last year and they've got a fifth, sixth, seventh
gear Athletically the Michigan really doesn't have. I think it's
gonna I think it's gonna come out on Saturday. Well,
by the way Giants plus tend and taking the points
(36:34):
there or what boy, that's a see that's another really
tough game. At seven and three, they're the biggest thunderdog
in sixteen years. You haven't had a seven percentage team
that's that's getting double digits since two thousand and six.
The lines are very banged up, but you could only
look to taking the points if you're betting that game.
(36:55):
Double digit favorites have covered six weeks in a row.
You've got a divisional double digit dog that double digit
dogs have covered six weeks in a row. You've got
a divisional divisional double digit dog at home in a
standalone game, and I have was saying, when the ball
is in the air, who do the books need? I
want to be on the side of the books. The
books are very much gonna need the Lions, and they're
(37:15):
very much gonna need the Giants, so I would lean
to the Giants. One other thing, the Cowboys have an
elite defense, but guess what Their run defense ranks in
the bottom ten this year in the National Football League
paging s kwon Barkley. They're avaging in sixty five yards
on the ground. Again, that game could be closer than
people think. But what what what a last think? Burdie
(37:36):
USA are engling on Friday? How much six to one?
Is that the odds or what usc? The USA is
gonna get worked like a burger and fries. Which this
is the most athletic team, the most skilled team. They
don't do well in the world stage. They don't jail.
They're completely unproving that game against Wales. Wales kept much
faster company going into that game. If you saw the
(37:58):
friendly USA played versus in Japan, you'd have to turn
your head. I think New England now Harry Kane England's
top striker, and who would have been a candidate to
win the Golden Boot the most goals in the tournament.
He's hobbled, so even if he plays, he's not gonna
be a percent. I don't think it's gonna matter. I
think New England wins Handley. Right, Old England. Old England
(38:19):
wins Handley, I like. I like New England too. Hey, Bertie,
I have a great time. Can't wait to hear you
tomorrow night and all the weekend. Throw Fox Sports. Enjoy
your Thanksgiving, and Chris my Man a word of the wise.
When your son comes home for that first time from college,
I've been there and he and he doesn't want to
hang with you. You've done your job, my friend. You
don't want a twenty two year old unemployed paper boy
(38:40):
living in your basements. Dad, would you give another great soda?
I'm sure it wouldn't be great soda. Thanks, Thanks Bernie,
